This was our first time visiting The Alaskan Hotel & Bar, and it was a memorable experience. Known for their unique "crab fart," we decided to give it a try--it was definitely interesting but pleasantly tasty. The venue itself is rich with history, which adds a lot of character to the place. The bartenders were all friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. If you're in Juneau, I'd recommend stopping in for a drink and soaking up the historical atmosphere. I'm looking forward to coming back on our next visit!

    Amazing bartender!!!

Wonderful service from Sara . We will come back again and again!! She was amazing! Sara's service was quick and always with a smile. Great place

A trespass cuz my not buying drinks and getting blackout drunk every time is such a problem.

I've visited The Alaskan Hotel & Bar multiple times, often just to enjoy the music, the space, and the atmosphere. On one occasion, a staff member told me I was loitering -- apparently because I hadn't bought a drink every single time I came in. That alone was already a stretch, but when I calmly challenged that reasoning, they changed their explanation and told me they had "hours of footage of me making customers uncomfortable." I was shocked. No one had ever approached me with a complaint before -- no conversation, no warning, no discussion. Just surveillance claims and vague accusations with no opportunity to speak for myself. It felt like I was being watched, judged, and treated differently. I'm leaving this review not to stir conflict, but because people deserve to know how certain patrons -- especially those who may not "fit in" with a specific crowd -- can be treated here. This was disappointing, and deeply concerning

Cool stained glass windows and a stairway leading up to another seating area.

Review is only for the bar since we decided against walking into the hotel next door which was featured on the show, Portals to Hell. I wasn't scared, I just had a feeling not to walk in... and I was kind of scared. THE DRINKS | Full bar that offers local spirits. We ordered... - Gin and Tonic | Exquisitely smooth Juneauper Gin, from a local production facility, Amalga Distillery. The taste is subtly floral made from locally sourced spruce tips, Devil's Club, Labrador Tea, and rhubarb. I'm about to buy a bottle off their website, that's how good it is! - Jim Beam & Seven | Classic cocktail. No frills, just bourbon and 7-Up. - Jameson & Seven | Another classic cocktail with Irish whiskey and 7-Up. THE ALASKAN BAR FEELS | Victorian laid back atmosphere with beautifully ornate mirrors, lighting fixtures, and stained glass windows. Reddish brown tones dominate the color scheme. There's a lounge area, a small stage for live music performances, and an area for dining tables which can be moved aside to make way for a dance floor. The bartender was really personable and quick to make drinks for us. Drop by for the drinks. Stay for the experience of hanging out in a historic building constructed during the Alaska Gold Rush.

My friend mentioned this place & it's history so we made sure to stop by the bar for drinks. The historic Alaskan Hotel is the oldest operating hotel in Juneau & was built during the Alaska Gold Rush. It is a Victorian building which is listed on the National register of Historic Places located in the Downtown area. This place from what we heard used to be a brothels' I mean that on it's own is cause for curiosity to check out the place. Certainly is an interesting space, decent bar not bad for a quick visit.

There are strange things done in the midnight sun by the men who moil for gold;. The Arctic trails have their secret tales that could make you blood run cold.....Now I won't do the whole Cremation of Sam McGee thing, but I encourage you to look it up. The Alaskan Hotel & Bar reminds me of that time and harkens me back to my fathers readings from Robert W. Service and those frozen nights spent inside the Malamute Saloon. "Morgan" the raven haired beauty who poured me som suds and snuck me a shot was the absolute best ! My wife and I stopped in for some relief from the "cruise thing" and were pleasantly surprised with the authenticity and bandstand that flew the playbills of the groups that rocked the house over the years. If you find yourself in Juneau looking for some authenticity, hooch, or a frosty brew....give this saloon a try out ...then look up "The Shooting of Dan McGrew."

Great bar! Only place that didn't feel super touristy! Loved the place. You should go here.

Very nice and over 100 years old!

Fun place! Stop in for a drink at this historic bar and hotel. Kids can come in and sit at a table. Enjoy the feel of what it was like 100 plus years ago. You can feel the decades of Alaska history!

    crazy bar!

Only one type of wine white available, so if you're a white wine drinker, I hope you like Sauvignon Blanc. Nice ambience though!

After a miserable time down the street at the cesspool/Dump of Red Dog Saloon (see review) we walked up the street to this warm and friendly crowd at the Alaskan.

The restaurant has amazing views to the wharf. We were able to see the seaplanes land and take off. We ordered the tempura halibut & chips $34.99 and BBQ Burger Dip $24.99. The menu offers a variety of food items: burgers, steaks, pastas, soups/salads, local seafood dishes and a list of favorite dishes (jambalaya, shrimp tacos, ginger ahi, halibut wraps and more). If you pay with cash the 3% convenience fee will be removed. The portions for the halibut and chips were large and it was enough for two people. I would recommend for the halibut to be more crispy but overall it had a good taste.

I think a couple people here hyped the food up too much for me. I also think I chose the wrong meals. The first night we ordered bbq chicken wings. They were cooked well by the sauce was terrible. It tasted more like ketchup than bbq. I'm just being honest. The Idaho fries were big and cheesy. They different and good. The edamame was a bit salty but they were really good. 8/10 for sure. We ate them all. The second time we went my wife had the steak tip Ceasar salad and it was good. It hit the spot. I had the salmon and clam chowder sourdough bowl combo. The Ceasar salad was good. The chowder tasted good also. My disappointment was that it hardly had any clams or salmon in it. That was odd to me, especially given the price. I would come back but next time I will simply get fish and chips or crab legs.
