McGregors is a quaint whiskey bar with a lot to offer. We arrived early because we knew it was on the small side. I would not go here with more than four people, but really just two is best. They have some outdoor seating with a fire pit, but in January not really an option. The fire pit it also so cute in the winter inviting you in. The service was prompt and friendly. We ordered the black cherry, and he was able to rustle up an egg for a egg white foam instead of the vegan option which was very nice. The drink was very good, highly recommended. We ordered the Mac and cheese and the cioppiono. The cioppiono was more of a fish soup, not a rich tomatoe broth as you would expect. It was good, but I wouldn't sell this as a cioppiono. The Mac and cheese was tasty, a little on the dry side. The crab dip special was very good. I wish I could give this 4.5 stars, it is great but has a little room for improvement with the food. So what to do in the post world of COVID. With literally several options to choose from, this was selected for well the whiskey and bourbon after all. What we didn't realize was the food matches up pretty darn well with some very high class whiskey and bourbons. I am always a sucker for a good lobster bisque and this is right up there with some of the better bisques that I have ever had. I do wish however that there was at least a few bigger pieces of either lobster of course or even some crab. That would have made just this soup alone a home run. Both the wife and I had the lamb burger with truffle fries. It was one of the most moist and flavorful burgers I have ever had. Add the little bit of truffle dip for the fries on that burger and it goes from great to awesome!! We then finished our meal with the toffee cake smothered in silky toffee, and well a couple of flight of some top shelf whiskeys and bourbons. So if you do find yourself in Cannon Beach for more than just one meal (lots of choices) this definitely needs to be near or at the top of your list. read more

A simple unassuming lounge attached to the Cannon Beach Hotel. We stopped in because we are staying at the hotel. Best Decision Ever. We started with a talisker on the rocks for the hubby, and a housemade sangria for me( red, fruity, notes of cinnamon and anise? Yum.) On to the smoked dungeness crab dip, creamy, unctious, beautiful bites. Then I had the seafood stew. Reminiscent of a bouliabaisse, each bite was buttery, flavorful joy. My husband had the slow roast pork tacos, he enjoyed greatly. For dessert, sticky toffee cake, warm moist, not too sweet, a perfect ending, then back to our room for more wine we had brought with us. It has been awhile since I have had a five star experience but this was definitely one. We stopped in for breakfast on an off-season weekday and had one of the best restaurant breakfasts we have had, period. The place is small and attached to a hotel but you get the sense right away that the vibe is not hotel restaurant. Advertised primarily as a whiskey bar and dinner spot they should not be overlooked for breakfast. The menu may not be as expansive as some places but they do what is on it well. My Huevos rancheros rivaled any I have had in travels to New Mexico and I don't think I have ever had an egg cooked quite so perfectly. My husband's Eggs Benedict received rave reviews as well to the point that he actually made a point of complementing the chef on our way out...sure hit them up for cocktails and dinner but don't forget they serve a bomb breakfast, too. read more

I went in for a manhattan up before having dinner at the yellow house. The manhattan was the color of dirty water and tasted how it looked. What made it worse was the guy who made the drink is also the owner. It tasted watered down and way too sweet. Made with "house bitters" which probably didn't help the overall profile of the concoction. A manhattan is a very basic drink and any bar holding themselves out there as a whiskey bar should be able to execute. The guy knew he was serving crap and didn't care. My girlfriend ordered a whisky sour and it tasted like fruit juice. At least it didn't look and taste like dirty water. As a local I love to support the local businesses so we have places to go. Unfortunately, this local has to label this establishment a tourist trap. You are better off stopping by Wayfarer next door. The bartender is great and is more concerned with making good drinks for customers than cutting corners to save a few bucks. read more

I used to come here when it was the Morris' Fireside Lodge. I was happy to hear that the server told me the clam chowder recipe was the same. The host was very friendly and we were seated within 15-20 minutes. The wait staff were also friendly but very slow. I ordered a bowl of the clam chowder and my girlfriend ordered bacon, eggs, hash browns and sourdough toast. The clam chowder wasn't the same. Although close, it was thin and didn't capture the creamy and thick chowder I used to always have. The soup came out Luke warm. In addition, the bowl size has been greatly reduced. I will give this place a second try in hopes they were just having a bad chowder day ‍ My girlfriend raved about her breakfast. The bacon was thick and hash browns were good. I was a bit disappointed with the food at this MacGregor's. This review is for the breakfast/lunch side of MacGregor's, which is open until 3:00 PM, except for Tuesdays. Our clam chowder was okay, but not memorable in the least. The fish and chips were not done right, although the fish itself seemed fresh and tender. The breading was soggy, with no crispness. The fries, even after I asked for "extra crispy" were also soggy. Service was "nice," but unprofessional. When I mentioned the fries were soggy, the young woman acted as if she didn't hear me and moved on. The manager walked around, greeting each table, but I wasn't about to create a problem. We happened upon this restaurant and are so glad we did. Our server and the bartender were outstanding. Alex, the bartender, created a custom whiskey flight from varying styles. He took the time to explain the origins of each one and how they were crafted. It added so much to the experience. He gave us more information than a distillery we went to did. They were each fantastic, but the Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10 Yr Peated Scotch was far and away the highlight. The food was incredible - charcuterie boards of various styles and tastes. We ordered three and it was more than enough food for the two of us. We can't recommend the Elevated Sausage Roll enough. Amazing! We didn't even get a photo of the brownie/fudge/cake dessert with fresh whipped cream and drizzled with raspberry sauce. It was divine and we savored every single bite. I admit it. If biscuits and gravy are on the menu, I order them. And then I criticize them to the nth degree. These were some of the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had outside of my own kitchen. The sausage was very broken down and melded into the gravy beautifully. If I could improve them, the only thing I would suggest I'd griddling the cut biscuits for that texture. Everyone else was okay with their food. French toast was solid. The classic breakfast (the hubs go-to every breakfast everywhere) was meh. Skimpy scrambled eggs and not fluffy at all. Staff really friendly and food and signature cocktails were really delicious and fresh all the way around. We shared the pretzel, it came with mustard and cheese sauce. We also shared the cheese plate, it had two different cheeses as well as some fruit, nuts and olives. Everything was yummy! We had such a fun time at MacGregor's, it is now on our list of must-go places in Cannon Beach. For one, anyone who knows me will tell you I'm a whiskey bourbon lover and a charcuterie lover, both of which you can find here. Ambience is just wonderful in here, upscale and rustic with a fireplace and some comfy chairs, large bar with a very impressive selection of liquor and very friendly staff. On this visit to Cannon Beach we made two trips to MacGregor's, one for cocktails and a cheeseboard in the afternoon and then we came back after dinner for dessert and hot toddies. We had a whiskey flight which was super fun and yummy, when we returned for dessert we had spotted dick (how fun right!?) and sticky toffee cake. This place has a European whiskey bar feel that I just love. They have three different charcuterie boards to choose from and though we hung out in the bar, they also have a restaurant with an epic menu, lots of delicious brunch items, several different kinds of Bennies, and more cocktails!
