We spent four wonderful nights at The Knickerbocker and hosted a corporate event for 15 attendees during our stay. For our meetings, we reserved The Salon and the Studio Suite, enjoyed cocktails and appetizers on the rooftop, and had breakfast and lunch at Charlie Palmer Steak. I also took advantage of room service during my stay. Every aspect of our experience was exceptional. Gabby was an absolute pleasure to work with--professional, attentive, and incredibly responsive. She ensured that every detail was handled seamlessly, and I never lacked for anything throughout the event. The housekeeping, concierge, and entire hotel staff provided outstanding service and truly elevated our experience. The level of hospitality and attention to detail was second to none. This review is for the restaurant, where are we dining privately. The hotel is really kind of a throwback to the martini days; and the Knickerbocker, a.k.a. "The Nick" Claims that the martini was invented there. It makes sense to me, but even if not, they have fully embraced everything martini, as well as their colorful historical past from the old, gilded age wealthy characters and artsy community. The hotel underwent renovations between 2010 and 15 reopening to the public after an unusual historical hundred years. Our dinner was very beautiful and tastefully executed; the lighting was perfect, our private dining area located behind velvet floor to ceiling curtains, and the table dotted with fragrant lilies. Our host picked the appetizers and side dishes - basically a sample of everything on the menu and we selected our main entrée. I had a perfectly seared filet mignon without the sauce due to my allergies which the kitchen executed thoughtfully. Our server, Laura , was delightful. Our group size was approximately 15 people each with distinct personalities and ideas about what type of martini would suit their fancy. I had a mocktail Mojito, which was very refreshing even during a snowstorm. The freshly made bread was a great starter as was the charcuterie board. It was a Tuesday night, but the bar was hopping with business people and a few locals. If you are in the area, you should venture up to the very scenic outdoor terrace, which wraps around the building and has exceptional views of Times Square. Stopped by The Knickerbocker Hotel with the girls before a comedy show, perfect spot to pregame! The rooftop is gorgeous, not too touristy, and yes, you can see the ball drop from here. Our experience at The Knickerbocker Hotel was absolutely wonderful, and a big part of that was thanks to Maggie at the front desk. We arrived very early in the morning around 6 a.m. with our boys, and from the moment we pulled up, we were warmly greeted and assisted with unloading our luggage. Maggie immediately noticed how exhausted we were and, with genuine kindness and compassion, offered us a room that was already available for an early check-in fee. It was such a relief, and honestly, completely worth it. Being able to rest before a full day of adventures made all the difference for our family. The hotel itself is stunning beautifully designed, modern, clean, and our room was spacious and incredibly comfortable. However, the highlight of our stay was truly the exceptional customer service. We booked The Knickerbocker for our first luxury hotel stay, expecting comfort and professionalism. Instead, the first night brought anxiety and disappointment. The rush as soon as you walk in with bags taken and placed on cart was unsettling. A bellman entered his phone number into mine and offered a "Cadillac driver" for $75 one way -- something management later confirmed wasn't a hotel service. Then the concierge treated me with hostility when I asked what could be done about a woman begging with her baby. She warned me that calling CPS would make the mother "go to jail, get depressed, start doing drugs," and the baby would be "in danger in the hands of strangers." She said I needed to just enjoy my vacation and it wasnt her job to give personsl opinions (even though this was her whole lecture) but she'd be happy to help me find a restaurant. As I walked toward the elevator, she loudly complained about me to another staff member -- the same manager I was referred to. The $60-per-night extra "premium view" was scaffolding, the minimalist room lacked warmth, the towels hung to reuse were removed, and the extra handtowels we requested were also removed while we were gone for the day. The semi- see through doors for toilet and shower were awkward. The last interaction included a helpful bellman that guided us in getting to our train on time. Rochelle, the manager, seemed to care, but no tangible amends was offered. Beautiful building -- but luxury should mean safety, empathy, and respect. We wouldn't return. read more

This place was hands down the best hotel I've ever stayed at no exaggeration. I was here for a work trip and I didn't want to leave haha! Every detail is thought out from the way they set up the room to how they lay out your slippers at night (huge brownies points!!!) everything made me feel so taken care of. The room was super modern and cozy with a luxurious tone (if that makes sense). They have Diptyque products and i was surprised because that's one of my favorite perfume brands. great water pressure even on higher floors and of course comfy bedding. The pillows are extra extra soft, too soft, so you can ask for firmer ones actually. Also, you're in the middle of Times Square but the room is still peaceful. They had construction right outside my window but I didn't mind. They come in the evening to close the curtains and make the room turn down. The breakfast buffet was soooooo good and had options for every type of person. You can be very picky and still find something. The staff was amazing too!!!! Everyone is so warm and welcoming. I saw lot of professionals and families and elderly couples so there's no way you don't feel comfortable. I didn't get to check out the rooftop but I'm planning to come back just for that. Our initial room was terrible: messy carpet, a slightly messy bed, dirty cushions, and a soiled sofa. When we asked the staff about the situation, we were greeted by rude staff. We were moved to a new room which was clean, but it was right next to the elevator, making it loud with noise and guest chatter that we noticed later toward the evening. The most upsetting incident occurred on our 3rd day when we returned to find our room door had been left open (unsecured). This security breach, especially next to a high-traffic elevator, is unacceptable. This was the worst experience, especially for a $3,200 stay meant to celebrate my wife's birthday. read more

For me, my intention was to see the shows, so it was a perfect central location. Also, since I lived here for over 13 yrs, I know my way around easy enough that 42nd was a great central point for me to go north, and south in the city. Though as some mentioned, the noise at 1 am and on was unbearable. Getting through massive tourist crowd was hectic. Jimmy, the bellman was wonderful. Other staff was nice. I called downstairs and there was one woman who had a horrible aggressive attitude but you can't have it all. I can't even describe my surprise at the size of my room - it was palatial. Great closets, drawers, desk area, .... everything was so roomy and comfortable and well appointed. The separate shower, toilet, and soaking tub were amazing. The large vanity....The two free bottles of water per day were much needed as I logged some serious steps on this trip. Room service for a pot of water and coffee, very reasonably priced. Just overall a really great experience! From the moment you step into the hotel - it's lovely. The location was great. I stayed here while in town and this hotel is definitely in the heart of time square and has anything and everything you want to see near by. When we checked in it was a fast seamless process and we were off to are room everything was really clean and you definitely felt safe. We ended up getting a premier view room of time square and it was the only issue I had since there was scaffolding across the entire front of the hotel since the city was maintaining the building so it hindered the view a little bit but other then that it was a great stay and would definitely stay here again. read more

So I'm a roblox developer and when I was fixing my game and it was so quiet. and also, when I was sleeping it was really quiet that I slept in under 2 minutes and in other hotels I take like 30 minutes to go to sleep. I would literally recommend this hotel to everyone this hotel deserves 5 stars and there was a bit of noise in the 2th or 3rd day, but I'm still giving it 5 stars for everything! The air conditioning barely worked, and there were issues with the plumbing. It felt like the place hadn't been properly maintained in years. Totally unacceptable for a hotel charging these rates. And speaking of rates, let's talk about the price. For the amount they charge, you expect top-notch facilities and service. But what you get is far from it. Overpriced, plain and simple. You're not getting value for your money, folks. There are far better places to stay in NYC for the same price. The only reason this place gets two stars is because the staff was kind of nice. They tried their best to be helpful and courteous, but there's only so much they can do when the hotel itself is in such poor condition. It's a shame because good staff deserves a better environment to work in. The location is decent, I'll give it that. You're close to Times Square and other attractions, but honestly, there are plenty of other hotels in the area that offer much better experiences. Location alone isn't enough to make up for all the shortcomings. The amenities? Barely worth mentioning. What a beautiful hotel! The service and our room were amazing. I'm not giving it five stars but I'm going to give it for because our room was beautiful and some of my comments are not things I feel the Hotel itself can change My thoughts : 1. I do wish the lobby retained some of the glamour of the original Knick that is shown in the coffee table book in your rooms. The lobby was cold, sterile, and modern. I was hoping for more luxury and that iconic Knickerbocker feel. 2.I wish the rooftop bar stayed open a bit later, since it's views were beautiful. 3. I saw some good reviews of the coffee shop in the lobby, but we weren't impressed. The coffee was great, but the food offerings weren't even as good as Starbucks'. 4. This comment is NO fault of the hotel, but my wife and I paid for an upgraded corner room and it was GORGEOUS. BUT... the H&M "video sign" outside our room was borderline migraine inducing. Day OR night. Our corner room view was so cool with nearly 180 degree windows. But we had to keep the front one closed bc of H&M. All in all we had a great stay, and we may stay here again. Loved this hotel. It has a great location at the southern end of Time Square. I chose the hotel because of this location and its proximity to the theater district. My room was on the 12th floor facing 42nd Street. It was quiet considering the hotel location. There were plenty of amenities in the room - iron, hair dryer, mini frig, umbrellas, laundry service, toiletries, etc. The room was clean and modern. There were dimmer switches for all the lighting which was unique and oddly useful. Plenty of electrical outlets so tech devices could be changed. The bed was comfy. The room thermostat worked properly and was quiet. The staff were all courteous and helpful. My only complaint would be that they didn't have my phone number and email correctly added to my reservation. This caused a bit of confusion on my part when I didn't receive hotel communications. The error was prompted addressed by the staff when I brought it to their attention. No real harm came from the error. Overall I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for an upscale hotel with a good location. read more

I stayed here on business with eight other coworkers. It's definitely in the heart of everything but with that comes tremendous noise all night long. In fact, on my last evening I was shocked that they were doing construction at 1 AM. It sounded like they were directly outside of my window, so although it's not the quietest of places, it is very luxurious and has all of the amenities. The rooms are very spacious, especially the bathroom and I love the shower. The beds are so comfortable and for once they got the pillows right. The staff here is very attentive and on my first day here I got on the elevator with five of the workers. I believe they were housekeepers, but they were so incredibly friendly and thanked me for choosing their hotel. I love to hear that from employees who love their job so much and referred to the hotel as theirs. Another point I will make is that the food is amazing here. We had dinner the first night in the restaurant, followed by cocktails up on the beautiful rooftop. We had to breakfast sessions in a private room that was amazing. I definitely pay attention every detail here and I would highly recommend that you stay, just bring earplugs. read more

This review is for the room and the reception desk. For the brand and price point, you'd expect a lot more. Coffee and water are some of the most basic amenities for hospitality businesses and you only get water here and they will charge a "residence fee" for it and for housekeeping. (Wha?) My room was sad-- the room temperature control was broken. It was on 60 F when I got in so I increased it to 70 F which kicked up the heater and that stayed on until it was 80 F. If I reduced it to 68, the AC would blast and would stop at some point and the heater would turn itself on. Then the AC would come on... and on and on it went. The constant hot and cold made my sleep elusive the first night. It rained the second night, cooling the city down so I just turned it all off. The rooms definitely need upgrading -- there was also mold in the shower and my room was not cleaned properly (see bedding stain)-- this after they sent a message talking about "upgraded" cleaning due to COVID. I'm scared what it looked like before COVID. About the customer service at the reception-- My check in and check out went smoothly, without a hitch. But my first morning, I woke up and went downstairs to ask about coffee and the lady at reception was impatient and rude and told me I "had to go outside." There wasn't another guest there so it wasn't busy. I didn't understand what was up. She literally just had to smile and answer the question. To clarify, I asked outside where and she snapped that they don't offer coffee and I basically need to go get it myself. What hotel doesn't offer coffee and doesn't offer to help guests understand their options in a nice way? That needs a lot work. When I checked out, I gave them feedback and the guy was very professional. Maybe he can train his colleagues. Other things: there's no room service, no safe, no fridge, no coffee machine, no vending machine, no restaurant. Basically there's a bed and a rooftop (only open Thu - Sat). The concierge was great though-Eric was very helpful and kind. He and the doormen are the reason this review wasn't a one star. The ghosts of NY past are here!! In the best way. We are talking the Gilded Age. Take a minute to read about John Astor and his visions for this jewel. The exterior is drop dead gorgeous in the classic way. The interior is fully modern. A combination I love! I learned about this hotel from Leading Hotels of the World, of which it is a member property. They have the coolest portfolio. Our room was very spacious, comfortable and quiet. Diptyque toiletries are such an added bonus. The texting to make sure we had everything we needed was appreciated as well. The location is fabulous. Easy walk to Times Square (you can see the NYE ball from the rooftop!) Broadway, Bryant Park (great Christmas market!!) and the NY Public Library. The Charlie Palmer restaurant inside is still not fully open post Covid (really?) but the lounge area is and is a great gathering spot. But my favorite is the bustling roof top bar. (St.Cloud) Great views! And the copper trim is original to the building. Just gorgeous! read more

I made a reservation at the Knickerbocker Hotel for October 17th for me and my husband. We will be celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary. I contacted the hotel to request the best way to have champagne and a charcuterie board in the room when we arrive. The irony is I was also planning to upgrade our room -- hence more money for the hotel. After being redirected to a different person 5 times and having to call back all 5 times, I have given up. As a 5-star hotel I would expect the process to be seamless. I hope this is not indicative of what our upcoming stay will be like. read more

Wasn't sure but the doorman let me in and guided me through the very fancy lobby to the elevator upstairs to a gorgeous bar and lounge area. Service was excellent on a weeknight, and I enjoyed the chicken sliders and a glass of wine. Before l left, I walked around outside on the patio space and was stunned by the views! Overall this hotel is very nice. It's right in the middle of Time Square and everything is walking distance. The rooms are average nothing crazy or over the top. I wish the room would've had bigger windows for the view. However, the room did have two floor to ceiling mirrors. There's a restaurant on the 4th floor but no room service. The only room service available is breakfast. There's a good coffee shop in the loon called Jake's and they have breakfast sandwiches and bagels. The gym is small but has enough equipment to get the job done. I noticed the lack of gym photos so here's a few. The gym is also on the 4th but kinda inconveniently out of the way down a couple hallways and through a few doors. Plus it's really dark in the hallways. But nice place. Enjoy your stay. read more

For what we paid to stay here for our Daughters 16th birthday trip to the Big Apple, we were let down. Couldn't check in until 2 hours after check in. We had issues with our blinds and there was a light out in the bathroom. The mold in the shower was not so great to look at, and one morning we didn't have hot water... Every night I had to call to have them bring up the in room dining card to put on the door. This should be something that they replenish everyday when they clean the room. One thing we missed when booking the room, is that there is no coffee pot. Location wise this hotel is right smack dab in Times Square. If we go back to NYC, we'll stay closer to Central Park where it's not as busy. read more

Wonderful staff, unresponsive management It took months for hotel management to respond after giving us a room in April 2024 with unwashed sheets and a left-behind sex toy. Once management did finally respond -- in November -- they offered a free night if we return. We took them up on their offer in January 2025 but they wouldn't confirm -- or even reply -- till three days before arrival the following month, and even then only with a paid second night. Management made us feel like freeloaders. No water for comp night. View of scaffolding. Told us -- through their front-desk personnel -- we were not entitled to breakfast, then charged us anyway. Everything was perfect....until it wasn't. My husband and I checked in for a Saturday night with plans to see a Broadway show and then be on our merry way in the morning. Check-in was seamless. Everyone was so friendly, especially Diana at the concierge desk. I had booked through my company's rewards program so I got this king room for about $100 less than typical so I wasn't expecting a great room. In fact, we got one of their "worst" rooms on the third floor, directly facing H&M and right above the hotel's entrance. To our delight, the room was stunning! It was absolutely huge with a beautiful design and layout. Don't get me started on how gorgeous the bathroom was! At this point I couldn't believe my lucky stars. We had finally found our favorite NYC hotel! I even read the complimentary book they had about the history of the hotel. Did you know the martini was originally created there?? I was quickly becoming the knickerbockers knumber one fan! Until the ball dropped! We woke around 9 with a plan to check out early to get downtown for another long day. I turned on the shower and waited for what seemed like forever for hot water. I called the front desk and they said "oh, yes, we know there's an issue. There won't be any hot water today" Excuse me? At this point it had been over 24 hours since our last shower and we had been galavanting all across the big (dirty) city. We desperately needed these showers to help start us on our new day. What bothered me most was that there was no solution, no compensation. Nothing. If the hotel knew the water heater was broken, a heads up really would have been nice. I'm so so sad that things worked out this way. I was in love with the Knickerbocker for a good half a day, but alas the affair is over. My husband made reservations for 3 nights 4 days before we start our cruise that leaves from New York. He said it would be a little more expensive than his other choices but that they had great reviews on Yelp. Your Front Desk employees makes the difference! Aneelee checked us in and was informative. We saw Paola creating a paper airplane and said our 2 grandsons would love to have one! She asked Aneelee what room we're in and she will have it delivered to our room. When we got back to our room after taking a walk... there were 2 beautiful paper airplanes for our grandsons! We went downstairs to thank Paola and she gave us Knickerbocker Coloring book and bib also for our 2 grandsons. We definitely wanted to take a picture with Paola! The concierge, Stephanie was Outstanding! So knowledgeable and informative! We received written directions on which subway to take and which was her favorite restaurant in Chinatown. It was so pleasant to see her at the desk whenever we got back from our excursions! She even told us what time she was getting off work so we wouldn't be looking for her! Robert the doorman was exceptional. So friendly and helpful. As we were leaving, he made sure we were going in the correct direction to catch the subway! We asked him for his business card and he laughed and said he doesn't have a business card, that he's just a doorman! I wanted the business card so I can send him the picture we took. Your doorman and front desk employees are what makes you a great hotel! We had breakfast every morning. The food was okay. Disappointed that the buffet was the same each day. Eggs, potatoes, bacon and sausage. The Fresh fruit were frozen cold and made it especially good. The wait staff weren't attentive to remove our dirty dishes as we stacked them on top of each other. I had to ask for more cold water and hot water for my tea. There are no ice machines at the hotel so we weren't able to fill our recycle water containers. They did empty the refrigerator so we were able to put our leftovers in the refrigerator. We'll be back. read more

I just returned home after spending 2 nights at this hotel. We arrived around 12 pm and check in was at 4 pm. The check in process was quick and I was able to check in early as requested. The rooms are nice size and clean. The bathroom area is nice and I like how the shower and toilet area are separated. The room has a large tv. The breakfast restaurant is nice but they need to work on their service. The roof top lounge is nice but they need to replace some of the torn furniture. Utterly disappointed. This "5 star hotel" can't deliver anything better than my usual chain hotels that I stay at on road trips. I argued my way through my travel group to stay a night here at the Knickerbocker while we were traveling in NYC in April earlier this year. It was really a shameful move. I booked through the Visa concierge service that had extra perks so I was a bit stoked. Until check-in, it seemed promising as I received a friendly text the night before to confirm when our approximate arrival time might be. But here's where our simple expectations were unmet: We specifically booked a two queen for 3 people but we entered our room with 2 robes and 2 slippers. Clearly, there was no attention to your guest count despite charging extra for the 3rd person. I ask for these items at the front and there's no word for 20 minutes so we decide to leave the hotel as we have a full itinerary as any other NYC visiting tourist do. When we return to the hotel front layer that day, I remembered the empty fridge, so I stop by reception only to find out there are front desk hours until 9pm. Okay, pandemic, but you're a hotel. You don't simply bar or kickout your guests like restaurants who have operating time restrictions. Hotel guests are still in room overnight but your front desk is back open at 8am the following morning. What if something happens? Who do I rely on? Maybe I also didn't read that no food & beverage credit meant no bottled or can containers in rooms = not even water. So we scope out a store at 11pm to find water to hydrate for the night - and the security person I blew up at initially when I first thought I called front desk says water is available and free and that he will bring to our room. Nice gesture, but didn't happen. All that is to say, during COVID, this place is only worth it if the location is your top priority. Nothing else. You're being ripped off on a 5 star price tag that has none of the qualities of one. read more

This review is for the St. Cloud rooftop bar at the Knickerbocker hotel. Showed up only to see that the views are blocked off and not very good, compared to other hotel rooftop bars in the city. Try the press club, dream hotel etc. Also the price of drinks was pretty outrageous by even midtown Manhattan standards. I ended up paying $31 for a single drink and no real views or ambiance to speak of. Likely won't return with these prices and zero views. Only go here if you're feeling super touristy and want to get a ic of the Times Square ball drop or are at here at an event in New Years evens otherwise it's less than impressive and a money suck. Much better options in and around town for rooftop bars. read more
