Had dinner there last night, and found the food good, buy over priced for what you got. The Fisherman had virtually no fish & only 3 tiny shrimp engulfed in a thick gravy like wine sauce and was $26.75 while the Leprechaun featured a puff pastry with peas, carrots and only 3 small cubes of corned beef and a few strands of cabbage. The salad was good thanks to a nice lemony salad dressing. Not sure what happened? I would hope more proteins would be added to the dishes. The live Celtic music combined with the delicious traditional British food is so fun. Their pot pies are delicious with a flaky crispy crust. During my most recent visit, I had their Venetian salad and I will be back for more! This is a family-friendly pub run by a great family that will remember what you like to drink! This small, hard to find in the dark English pub is definitely worth the hunt. The pasties, chicken pot & shepherds pies, soups, and salads are delicious. Bangers and mash are also on the menu. My vegan daughter was happy with the variety and quality of vegan food available. The pub's British Bulldog Brewery beer is good. Note that you order your food at one counter, beer and wine at another. Your food will be delivered to your table. The staff is fun and friendly. The dining room has an authentic European look and feel. The friend that brought us to The Allies Pub loves to sit outside under the large shade tree during the warmer months. He says it's the best shade tree in downtown Chico. I can't wait to experience that! read more

Went here for lunch yesterday. It was about half an hour after they opened, and already filling up. You can reserve a table online, which I'll probably do next time. We didn't have to wait though. From the host, to the food runners, to the bartender the staff was excellent. They were friendly and polite and explained everything very well. They checked on us just enough to keep us from ever needing anything but not so much that we felt rushed out. The building itself has a pretty cool aesthetic. Very in-theme. There's a nice patio area outside with live music. Everything is clean and in good condition. The bathroom is an all-gender restroom, and is also in theme and clean and well-kept. For food we ordered the scotch egg, and the hog and cock pastries. The scotch egg had a much thicker layer of sausage than I'm used to, and the egg inside was a bit cold but the flavor was pretty good. The pastries were great! Flakey golden brown perfection. I really liked the curry and veg in the chicken pastry. The hog was a bit dry but still good on flavor. The beers weren't too bad either. We'll definitely be back. 5/5 stars because the staff was impeccable. read more

Dinner out(side) last night was great! Firstly, adherence to COVID-19 guidelines--Grade A. Masks, gloves, table cleaning all appreciated. It is a pub so you go inside to order at the counter and the food is brought out to you. Hubby and I started with the Scotch egg. It was excellent. Crispy outer shell and sauce where spot on. We felt we may have made a mistake to have ordered other entrees and not gone for an entire meal of those huevos. But is was not a mistake. Hubby had bangers and mash with minty peas. Mint and peas...who knew? Well, obviously Allies, but we didn't. Loved the banger so much we had to ask where they got them. Not surprised to to hear they are custom made for Allies by Chico Locker & Sausage. Since I had been there before, I already knew about how good the puff pastry crusts are and I had been thinking about it all day leading up to dinner. When I noticed the Fisherman came with mashed potatoes (no slight to the mashed potatoes) I asked if the pastry could be substituted. Yes. Wow! I was happy. Ok, we are at a pub so about the beer. We went inside and sampled a few, then picked the four we shared for the sampler. Ultimately ended up with a pint of Signalman but would have been equally happy with the Blackout. This is a beautiful British pub. The ambiance is on point. Theres comfy warm seating inside and the outdoor patio area is great when weather permits. My husband and I had bangers and mash and the beef pie. Both were amazing. Bangers came with peas, which I love. They were cooked perfectly. We each had a couple beers, the bearded bastard and one British beer with a sailor on the tap handle. We will definitely be back for more. The entrance is a little tricky, not on Broadway. My bf and I stopped in while visiting in Chico and this was by far the best pub we've ever been to. The atmosphere is beautiful and very inviting and the customer service was top notch :) everyone there was smiles and incredibly kind and the food was delicious. Their pasties are flakey and melt in your mouth, they're so good! We also got their cat and custard dessert which wasn't too rich but perfectly sweet to end off lunch. Another bonus was the music they played couldn't have been better as I'm a huge Beatles fan I highly recommend checking this spot out! Such a fun and lively place! The bits and bobs shared plate was very yummy. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious.

I initially gave them 4 stars because of a misunderstanding as they thought someone was smoking in our group and I thought my dish lacked enough fish in my order. I was impressed with their response and willingness to address these issues if they arise again. On the smoking, our group abhors cigarette smoke and am glad they want to make sure their outdoor patio stays smoke free. It's a great patio to enjoy a outdoor meal, especially this time of year. Wonderful place to eat. we were greeted by the owner Steve. Very pleasant British man. Lovely pub. Decorated well. We had ploughmans lunch with ham, cheese, roll, salad, and branston pickle. Very tasty and nicely presented. We also had Ranchers pie. Absolutely delicious. Chicken, ham, mushrooms, vegetables in a wine sauce covered with pastry. Very British meal. I'm writing this on 5-15-2020. This is our first time going out since the California shelter in place. So where did we go to exercise our freedom? The Allies Pub, of course! This pub's theme is centered around the English and American Allied forces who fought for the worlds freedom. So, this pub was a natural choice. I had the "Rancher" meat pie. I won't lie, never had a meat pie before. Quite honestly as I write this, it doesn't sound too appetizing. However, it was delicious. If you've never had a meat pie, you've got to try one. Man so good. And since we were still feeling so blessed by our freedom to dine out, my wife had the red, white, and blue salad. Also excellent. Two thumbs way up for The Allies Pub. Service was absolutely horrible today.We drove up from San Francisco stopped in Paradise to pick our relative and to come to Lunch on her Recommendation . We were told they had no tables for an hour would we like a low table as 2 of us are disabled . TheHostess there asked us and told she would reserve the table for us to return in one 1 hour at 2:30. We arrive and we're told there were no tables available except high tops . That there was nothing they could do I asked to speak to the owner and or manager whom we met on our exit . We we're told they've left for the day. We've been sitting now for over 30 mins for a reservation the was supposed to happen 35 mins ago . Not accommodating a disabled person let alone 2 is just not right . Finally got a table and was told by the waitress to order the seafood dish since the British pub doesn't serve fish and chips . I went up to the counter to order for the 3 of us after spending almost 2 plus hours there and I was told they were out of the fish dish . After the waitress said to order the fisherman's pie we did and apparently the manager was there and it was her I ordered with and she said we are out of the fisherman's pie. I said what we were told by the waitress she said she was wrong they were out of it. I was pretty upset at that point thinking now they just said this . As a manager should she be aware of what's available and let staff know?? read more

Definitely get the Bits & Bobs to share. The service was great and the place itself is nice and charming inside. I don't drink any more so I can't say if their beer is good but my friend had the stout and she said that it's amazing. If you haven't been, you should definitely go. Being a huge Anglophile, when my friend Sam came to visit last week and told me he had found out there was a new "British Pub" in Chico, I said, "Ok, we are going there." Brilliant. Generous portions, authentic recipes, felt like a quick trip across the pond. Everything was fresh. I will be back and can't stop talking and telling my friends how awesome it is.
