I visited The Foodie Cafe once and ordered two takeout meals that came to $53.36: a brisket sandwich with cheese fries and an Asian chicken salad, also with cheese fries. THE HIGHLIGHT for me was the atmosphere. It felt lovely and pleasant, and the live, relaxing background music on the weekend was genuinely beautiful--that alone made the visit worthwhile. My husband enjoyed the brisket sandwich. My Asian salad, though, was a bit of a letdown--thick, nearly tasteless noodles with only a faint hint of ginger dressing. The fried chicken on top was okay, but the batter was too thick and the chicken turned out soggy rather than crispy. The cheese fries seemed to come straight from a frozen bag, a little too salty, with just a single slice of cheese melted on in what felt like a microwave. Let me just say if I was going to open a place I would want it to feel like The Foodie Cafe. Love the vibe from the minute you walk up - open the door and the aroma is amazing! Decor and feel all right in line and your mouth starts to water. Menu - let's see I would have to say just try anything! We've had 5 things now and each had its own flavor and appeal! 1st visit was for lunch and I had to try the pastrami which has amazing flavor (could have used a little more meat! The pics seem to be a little more loaded) fresh pickle and homemade mustard were out of this world! Mom had bacon blackberry sandwich and it was delicious. I love making fun stuff with flavors so the chef is after my own heart! Sending like the thickness of the bread and wished it was a little thinner but delicious! And the regular tots- cooked to crunchy perfection. I can't stand soggy tots and these were not! Yummy and they were seasoned lightly and have a secret ingredient! Sauces- the Alabama I think he called it was unique and yummy added a nice kick. The two others were awesome as well! Oh and the table inside - to die for. Gorgeous and I will sit there next time!! Okay now for brunch! The special tots are delicious and the kicker is dipping them in the delicious gravy! The biscuits and gravy are delicious and 1 of the best we have had, we asked for extra gravy (we like them wet!!) I think there was jalapeño hidden between the gravy and biscuits and it added that fun kick! Oh boy the pancake that's is wrapped around a beautiful sausage with some jalapeño and some added goodness is a flavor burst in your mouth! I'm telling you everything we have tried is on point order anything and you wont go wrong. And lastly the patio is dog friendly and our dogs enjoyed a nice birthday brunch with us! Everything was old the bacon was old and tough the chicken mealy and overcooked. The biscuit was hard and barely warm. The egg was cooked to death and the gravy was tasteless. Also everything on the breakfast menu was a Sandwich. Maximalist drivel. The coffee was lukewarm. The brownies on display had to have been made 3 days ago at least. My mother got sick immediately from what I can only assume was old fryer oil which would explain the natty chicken. I have not had a meal this bad in sometime. Chico restaurants are pretty mediocre but this takes the cake. Sometimes it's better not to eat the food and by judging how immediately ill my mother was I was vindicated by going without. This place was bomb! My family and I were finishing off a vacation and we stopped here for lunch, we were not sorry we did. They have great ideas for food. The food there was phenomenal! The owner was out talking with us and very passionate about their restaurant. We opted for some sandwiches that were scrumptious. We have to return for breakfast because it looked wonderful. This is the hidden gem of Chico! I Stumbled upon this little place for lunch near the Chico airport. The bbq smell that trail out of the cafe will grab you the second you park your car..... The owner was adorable and greeted us at the counter. He sold us on the brisket sandwich of the day, with a gorgeous blackberry pecan salad. We topped it off with boozy Carmel rum milkshakes. Rave for foodie cafe! This is my third time eating here and I've been thoroughly impressed every time! The owner Boyd clearly genuinely cares about every step of the process from picking fresh and local produce, avoiding unnecessary preservatives by making smaller batches more frequently, guiding each customer through option and favorites, even down to saving any waste and donating it to the local hog farm to be consumed by the pigs. It s breath of fresh air to see a business ran this way in a world that's increasingly more and more difficult to run a business. Food: The burgers were delish. Real bacon and the cheese skirt was nice and crunchy. I felt like the m loaded tots were a little dry and chili lacked depth in flavor. But back to that freshly baked bun on top of that delicious burger. And the alcohol infused milkshake was strong and sweet. Service: Friendly and efficient. It's my 2nd time reviewing this place and my 2nd time here in a week. We brought my in laws here because we liked it that much. Everything we had was awesome including the free brownie they brought me because they ran out of cookies for the check in item. Our server Jackie was awesome. She was friendly, attentive and fast. The biggest testament to the deliciousness of their food was my mother in laws reaction. She is very picky and so getting their grilled cheese was a bit of a risky venture for her. Well, she took one bite of it and was smiling ear to ear. The same for the Mac and cheese and slaw she sampled. Please do yourself a favor and come here. I would give zero stars if I could. When we walked into the place not only was there a stench of BM but we saw a roach run past us. To add insult to injury the so called person at the register gave a look to us and several other people that were in line waiting to be helped, that if "looks could kill" we all would have been dead. We have recently, FINALLY, checked out the Foodie Cafe. Now I'm just wondering... what took us so long? We had tried to stop by after church a few times in the past, always remembering they weren't open on Sundays. I really like their new location. So much more space, I love brick so that's an automatic *vibe check: PASS* for me, and their outdoor seating is awesome. The fountain in the middle, cornhole if you're hanging out and want to play, and sooo many tables. We have fallen into a little food love with their loaded tots... YUM! We may or may not have filled up on those during our first visit, and then learned to pace ourselves the second time. I also tried their chicken Caesar salad, which is really good. The chicken is yummy, I love their croutons, and the dressing is rich & the perfect amount! My hubby has tried the Garlic Butter Burger & the Breakfast All Day Burger, the first being his favorite so far! We finally made it here after being in town a few months. What a nice treat! I had the Monte Christo on a donut. A nice savoy/sweet combo. My husband had the Pigs in a Blanket (sausage in pancakes). Both came with a side of fruit, all of which was in perfect ripeness. Portions were just right for us. And none of the usual restaurant scorn of having just water. $26 for breakfast for 2. Perfect!! Tri tip was overly cooked and dry even with the bbq sauce. Pulled pork was also burnt, and dry. Mashed potato was not bad. Bread was soggy. One of Chico's greatest restaurants, hands down. I was tipped off to this place by a friend. Chico is a large city with myriad restaurants - many of them being chains - so I always welcome the opportunity to try a new-to-me, locally-owned spot. The Foodie Cafe did not disappoint. The venue is in a large, newer business plaza, situated in the center of town with easy freeway access. While the location is central, it feels as though it's off in its own little world, tucked away from the street. The location within the plaza is serene as it faces a large outdoor fountain. There is ample seating both indoor and out. I enjoy dining al fresco if the weather isn't too severe. The first time I dined here was to celebrate the closing of my first home. It's a casual establishment but elegant enough to be considered a spot to ring in a milestone. Right off the bat, I was impressed by the professionalism of my waitress. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and checked in on me often. I also witnessed the owner checking in on tables and ensuring that all were taken care of. You don't see this level of service often, so I was impressed. No complaints whatsoever. The menu was impressive, and I honestly wanted to order one of everything. Because this was a special occasion for me, I set my diet restrictions aside and opted to go all-in with their impressive menu items. I ordered a boozy milkshake (an item the restaurant is known for) along with their meatloaf entree with the "million dollar" scalloped potatoes. I can't begin to describe how flavorful the items were. The flavors were so complex yet worked so well. I wanted to scarf it all down but also wanted to savor every delicious bite. The service was good too, except for the hostess who wanted to seat us next to the dirty dish bins and then copped an attitude when I asked to sit at a table that didn't meet her "server allotment".
