    Chicken sandwich

This place was bomb! My family and I were finishing off a vacation and we stopped here for lunch, we were not sorry we did. They have great ideas for food. The food there was phenomenal! The owner was out talking with us and very passionate about their restaurant. We opted for some sandwiches that were scrumptious. We have to return for breakfast because it looked wonderful. There were so many other things on the menu that caught our eye. I would recommend it for anybody who wants a good bite to eat for a fair price.

The foodie burger and smoked garlic fries.

We only ordered sweet potato fries. They were very good and the portion size was amazing. The main reason for the five stars is the bartender. I did not get his name but he was great. From the moment you walk up, it's got that classic brick and wood feel that says you're about to eat well. Step inside and you're greeted by a wall of taps that feels like a beer lover's playground. The place hums... great music, good energy, and a staff that's clearly in rhythm with it all. We didn't mess around with the order. My daughter went with the blue cheese burger special, her boyfriend took on the bacon jalapeño burger, and I went straight for the pastrami burger. Every one of them came out looking like a culinary masterpiece. The blue cheese had that perfect balance... bold but not overpowering as they are want to be. Her boyfriend said the bacon jalapeño brought just enough heat to keep things interesting without stealing the show, probably too weak for me ;). My pastrami burger was a heavyweight... stacked, savory, and the kind of messy you don't even try to clean up until you're done. Think Katz deli melding with a west coast hip scene burger. Now let's talk onion rings... because these deserve it. Golden, crispy, and just the right crunch when you bite in. Not greasy, not soggy, just dialed in exactly how they should be. Add the garlic sauce and now you're playing a different game altogether. That sauce is not optional, it's essential and fabulous on everything. The beer selection is deep, the kind where you stand there for a minute pretending you're making a thoughtful decision when really you just want to try everything. Service was on point from start to finish. No waiting around, no chasing anyone down... just attentive, easy, and done right. Only downside, and it's not really their fault, is parking. Downtown Chico can make you work a little for it. But once you're inside, with a cold beer in hand and a burger staring you down, you won't care how far you walked. I will be back, it is well worth the money.

I especially loved the curly cheese fries, and the fried chicken sandwich was good too. The place is steeped in history. I'm not really a bar person and the energy isn't quite my vibe, but there's a lot to appreciate--especially the wild ceilings packed with random items. It's unique and full of character, even if it isn't perfectly aligned with my usual preferences. My husband, a local who grew up in Butte County, shared some great stories about his Chico State days, back when this was still a quieter town of wealthy families with unpaved roads. Those little pieces of local history made the visit even more interesting. A solid, character-filled stop if you enjoy the Bar vibe, you're hungry after a hike and open to a place with real personality.

Loads of TVs with a variety of sports events playing. We ordered at the counter and then sat down at a table. We only waited about 15 minutes to get our food. My son and I ordered the Great Bacon Burger and specialized it to our liking. I ordered the side salad and he got curly fries. His roommate ordered the Near Burger with curly fries. When we got our food, the boys' burgers were not the way they had ordered them (one had cheese and the other had tomatoes). And it wasn't clear was whose was whose. My side salad was basic basic fare. I should have ordered the curly fries. I probably won't be back, but it was fun to visit the iconic Chico restaurant.

We had kids with us, so we got there an hour before it became 21+. Everyone was friendly, the food came pretty quick relative to how hopping it was. We ordered: Pho-rench dip (w/fries)--I think this was a DDD sandwich, so it's not some hidden gem, but it was super tasty. You cannot go wrong. The slight lime-iness of the dipping broth really kicked it into turbo. Also, we all likes the steak fries--a note on that later. Chicken Cheese Steak (w/fries)--my wife loved it. I tried a bite, and it was great--a little mushroom-forward, but we like that. Mac and Cheese--do not be fooled by the slightly smaller bowl, it is very filling. My son can eat his birth weight in pasta, and he had to tap out! I tried a bite--it was creamy (not grainy at all), and was just the right amount of salty and cheese-funky. Grilled cheese and tomato soup (w/fries)--perhaps the least successful for my family, but only because my daughter prefers a smoky/spicy tomato soup, and this was more on the sweet side. The griled cheese was of the "crispy cheese on the outside" ilk, which my daughter thought was really good. So, totally would go again. IMPORTANT NOTE (to people traveling through Chico, or who don't want to take leftovers)--the sandwiches are pretty big, and the add-on fry order is also sizeable. If we were going again tomorrow, we would either order 1 fry instead of 3. Or split a sandwich. Very very good pub.

"Big Chico…read moreBurger" has the same formula as the O.G. -- make a fresh burger over open flame and then you add all the produce and condiments as you see fit (lettuce, tomato, onion, two kinds of pickles, relish, hot peppers, and all the classic spreads like ketchup, mayo, mustard and "house sauce"). It's a wonderful concept and I support them now more than ever, especially since they are the only game in town for this format. The prices are reasonable, especially with their combos, the buns are top shelf... the *only* thing that I miss from O.G. Burger Hut? Their "secret sauce" -- it was like a Thousand Island dressing minus the pickle bits. The "house sauce" at Big Chico Burger is a little more garlicky and doesn't quite nail it the way Burger Hut did, but this is just my opinion, not even close to being a "deal breaker", and I can live with the way it is without complaining because the "house sauce" is still very adequate and enjoyable, I just like the O.G. sauce from the 1980s better. Bottom line, Big Chico Burger gets two thumbs up, we love and support them as a staple, locally owned business, and invite them to open up another location if they think they can handle it (you can!).
