This is a fantastic spot! It ended up being near our hotel, so it wins for convenience, and it's downtown location. We didn't realize we were in for such a treat here though. They have an extensive menu, and it is set up so you can choose your own adventure, and put together exactly what you want, but I ended up going for the Rib Eye special breakfast which ended up being a great choice! Chicken Fried Steak and their Omelettes also looked like they were very popular. They also offer great mimosa specials, and if you order three (for $13?) they will let you share them among multilpe people! Nice stop for breakfast on a Sunday morning. This restaurant does not have all of the bells and whistles but it is cozy and welcoming. Staff was nice and on point when it came to service. Food was not great but good. Portions were good. Good veggies but a little seasoning could have been helpful. Price was good. The high yelp review got us in and I can not see any reason not to go back when we are visiting Chico again. read more

Jacks has been around since I can recall! People drive by and think it's a shabby diner but in face it's a clean wonderful hometown establishment that deserves to shine! My honeys favorite thing is the pancakes with blackberry syrup in fact he always buys a cup to go because it's so hard to find (can't find it anywhere!! Accept Knotts Berry Farms) Recently took mom to lunch and we all ordered specials! Prices are amazing and they have a seniors menu and kids menu! Western burger - perfectly cooks the bacon was delicious and really the perfect amount of BBQ sauce! I was excited it had lettuce and tomato too. Came with a side salad and cup of chili and let me tell you! The chili is fire! Served super hot so don't burn your mouth but it is delicious. 12.99 Mom got the jacks classic burger on the senior menu and it came with a drink and fries or salad. She went with fries and added a cup of chili as well. The fries were perfect and absolutely wonderful when dipped in the chili! Didn't even need ketchup! Burger was well done as requested and a nice size - she got some mustard but didn't even add ketchup. 13 bucks I think! Honey had the three pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns and got bacon instead of sausage. Pancakes were perfect and he of course got the blackberry syrup which has just a simple wonderful flavor! If you are sitting with someone that has some chili grab a spoonful or two and add it to the hash brown and egg! Super tasty! 12.99 Great service both the waitress and manager were awesome and super attentive! Good conversation and smiles! The booths are comfortable and it's nice and warm which makes it nice when you are with people who always tend to be cold!! I fully support this place and love that they are still in business and have special hours! They aren't open late anymore and that's fine with me! We finally went to Jack's earlier in this year and it immediately became a go-too place for breakfast. Each time we have gone, prices have been reasonable, portions good, service excellent, and the food great. It's an old mid-century diner (looks like an old Sambo's to me, similar to, but different from the classic Denny's buildings of that area) so has a great diner ambience. Service is friendly and very attentive. Chicken fried steak, huevos rancheros, and buttermilk pancakes are excellent (5 stars). Corned beef hash of very good (4 stars). They also offer a side of one pancake with some dishes instead of toast, and I really like that. Very few places still do that and they get extra points for that option. Chicken fried steak has a nice crispy coating and is nicely cooked. The buttermilk pancakes are particularly excellent. Not too big, nicely toasty on the outside, light on the inside. read more

The food is amazing here. They're not paying the cook enough. Old school diner vibe. Service was beyond great. The coffee kept coming even after the check showed up. A waitress (not the one taking care of us) even offered to fill my coffee. I suspect I've seen the owner wandering the floor helping out. Big with lots of seating including outdoor, very classic diner style vibe with big portions and friendly service. We went here for a cheap and easy bite but sad to find out it's not cheap anymore and cost just as much or more than a nicer breakfast from a fancy brunch spot. They also charge for refills on coffee now. With the cost of everything going up I understand they too have to adjust but if I can only go out to eat maybe once a week I'd rather save my money for something nicer for the cost. After a heavy night of drinking, a classic American breakfast is just what we needed. The ambiance of this restaurant is very classic, like any diner that's has been around for years. The waitresses were quick to serve and were very friendly, and they once they had listed off the giant chicken fried steak special, I just had to try it. Giant chicken fried steak special was smothered with gravy and served with hash browns, 2 eggs served however you'd like, and toast/ bread of your choice for ~$18. I chose a warm blueberry for my meal! Food was nothing super impressive, but just like the food from any other classic diner, it's a safe, reliable, and hearty. The flavors and texture of the food are as you'd imagine from any other diner, so you know what you're getting. My friend had ordered the three mimosas for $12.99. They were served in kinda small glasses, but still, that's a pretty decent deal. I would come back to this place if I were looking for good value diner food, but if I wanted to try something new or unique, I would look elsewhere. read more

It's a diner, and the menu is broad with lots of things I'd like to try. I got the Spanish omelette, which was more like a folded frittata (which I prefer). It was tasty, though maybe a little short on the salt, which again is fine since they have three kinds of hot sauce plus ketchup and salt on the table. The country potatoes were great! They had some green peppers and onion as part of them, and were just very good. Love the atmosphere, and the service was top notch. Everything was very fast, and everyone was very polite and helpful. Fun to listen to the banter with the regulars, and the fact that banter and regulars exist is a good sign to me. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Chico! read more

Right when we walked in we were greeted by the very kind waiters, they walked us to our table. The food was amazing! Great portion size, and pricing and the customer service just was AMAZING, they checked on us every 5 min or so, always asking if we needed refills on our coffee. Very sweet, very kind and very patient service. Food wait time was great! Just felt like the old days when customer service existed, the food was quick to be served and the waiters were all super friendly. Jacks is singlehandedly the best breakfast venue in Chico. Fairly priced, lovely service, cozy ambience it's got it all. Trying all the other breakfast places and still keep coming back to jacks. Food is delicious and out incredibly quick. Staff are very attentive and nice. The manager I've often seen is incredibly welcoming and attentive. The orange juice is great. Great family-friendly restaurant with a classic, traditional menu. The portions are very generous, the food is fresh, and the service is prompt, efficient, and friendly. The staff really goes above and beyond. Despite the name, the mini pancakes are anything but mini! The cinnamon French toast with strawberry cream cheese was rich and delicious, and the Philly cheesesteak did not disappoint. The waffles were light, fluffy, and full of flavor. Stopped in on a road trip to Redding. Old school diner feel! The place was clean and quiet, two of my favorite things. We were immediately greeted by Michelle who was very nice. Thanks Michelle. Our menus and drink orders were taken care of right away. It's a large menu with lots of options. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs from the senior menu and my wife order the breakfast burrito. Both were delicious and the portion size was good. I sat at the counter for breakfast. Took a long time for someone to take my order. I had a carnitas omelette and hash browns that tasted like old grease. My sourdough toast didn't come out until halfway thru the meal, and with Al most no butter. At checkout, a "non cash fee" was added to my bill. I never saw signs for this. I had ordered a Philly Cheesesteak and the Giant Chicken Fried Steak on Sunday around 10:30am and had it delivered via Doordash with my friend. She wasn't overly hype over the Chicken Fried Steak but I had a few bites and it wasn't too bad. Onto the Philly Cheesesteak; being from Philadelphia I really want to find a sandwich that truly resembles being back home. With that said, it's been quite hard so far. Honestly, if I had to recommend anyone to grab a cheesesteak from it would actually be Jack's. Overall, the sandwich was fantastic, tasted great and stuck to the core ingridients. I heard a bright "hello" when I entered, Very nice at six-thirty in the morn. "Sit anywhere you like," the waitress said, Like she'd known me since I was born. So, I sat in a booth by the windows, That run the full length of the place. Three others were sitting at a table, Having coffee and talking stories face to face. They probably come in every morning, This must be their place to go. Tina was the one who greeted me. She's always the first server to show. I told her I'd have the senior special, Biscuits and gravy, bacon and fruit. The coffee was included, hot and tasty, With unlimited refills to boot. After a while, Michelle came on duty, A second waitress for all the hungry folks. I guess they knew they'd soon be busy, Serving breakfasts with sunnyside yokes. There's take-out, of course, you can order ahead, Many people take their food home. As I ate, a constant flow of customers, Picked up their breakfasts after using their phones. Then Leah arrived for her shift, Which made three at the same time. My food was good, but needing three servers, Meant the rest of the menu must be fine. That speaks well for the kitchen, Where I could see my food being cooked. Two guys were working their magic that morning, Winning their places in my poetry book. What an incredible spot I had found! We found this restaurant while waiting for the skate park to open. And what a great find! We were greeted at the door and shown to a booth right away. The restaurant is clean and bright with soft music playing in the background. The service was outstanding and the food was served hot and delicious. My favorite breakfast restaurant in Chico! Food is always amazing, service is always fast paced, servers are all so sweet. The ambiance of the restaurant is amazing as well, you can tell there are weekly and daily regulars who the staff all adore and care for. Prices are better than anywhere else in town and you can't beat the 3 mimosas for $11! I come here at least every month and have never had a bad experience. I also always bring my friends and family here while they're visiting- beats waiting an hour for a table at morning thunder or moms. Definitely recommend Jacks! read more
