    Giant Chicken Fried Steak
    Alexander T.

After a heavy night of drinking, a classic American breakfast is just what we needed. The ambiance of this restaurant is very classic, like any diner that's has been around for years. The waitresses were quick to serve and were very friendly, and they once they had listed off the giant chicken fried steak special, I just had to try it. Giant chicken fried steak special was smothered with gravy and served with hash browns, 2 eggs served however you'd like, and toast/ bread of your choice for ~$18. I chose a warm blueberry for my meal! Food was nothing super impressive, but just like the food from any other classic diner, it's a safe, reliable, and hearty. The flavors and texture of the food are as you'd imagine from any other diner, so you know what you're getting. My friend had ordered the three mimosas for $12.99. They were served in kinda small glasses, but still, that's a pretty decent deal. I would come back to this place if I were looking for good value diner food, but if I wanted to try something new or unique, I would look elsewhere.

    Spanish omelette with a biscuit

It's a diner, and the menu is broad with lots of things I'd like to try. I got the Spanish omelette, which was more like a folded frittata (which I prefer). It was tasty, though maybe a little short on the salt, which again is fine since they have three kinds of hot sauce plus ketchup and salt on the table. The country potatoes were great! They had some green peppers and onion as part of them, and were just very good. Love the atmosphere, and the service was top notch. Everything was very fast, and everyone was very polite and helpful. Fun to listen to the banter with the regulars, and the fact that banter and regulars exist is a good sign to me. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Chico!

An old-school diner with friendly service, reasonable prices, and great tasting food. Got the Carnitas Skillet for myself and my wife got the veggie eggs Benedict (substituted a slice of cinnamon roll French toast for the usual toast with no problem).

Jacks is singlehandedly the best breakfast venue in Chico. Fairly priced, lovely service, cozy ambience it's got it all. Trying all the other breakfast places and still keep coming back to jacks. Food is delicious and out incredibly quick. Staff are very attentive and nice. The manager I've often seen is incredibly welcoming and attentive. The orange juice is great. That sounds weird to praise orange juice but they got something there I tell ya. Portions are incredible for the price. Amazing value. Always get a country fried steak, always satisfied.

    Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs

The food is amazing! I always eat here (chicken fried steak and eggs. Yum!) when I'm stressed out over school or just hanging with friends. The service is phenomenal. Our waitress ensures we have everything and our water is never empty. Just a good place to chill because of the ambiance. Cozy and absolutely amazing. I'll miss coming to Jacks now that I found a job. It is/was my favorite place to be.

The service is amazing. Super friendly and fast. The burger was pretty decent. Nice diner atmosphere to sit down and relax with plenty of parking surrounding the area. I will definitely be back for lunch sometime soon.

Who doesn't like be a delicious breakfast on Saturday morning? We leave be this little Chico icon. Owners Martin and Telma are the nicest people. Always greet us like friends, not customers. Wait staff is so nice and attentive. Gloria is the best! Food is delicious, portion sizes are generous and prices are just right. If you haven't visited this Chico gem, you must. Tell them Jen and Jocko say hi when you go in. Enjoy!!!

We have been wanting to stay here and enjoy their amenities plus it's close to everything! My boyfriend and I enjoyed the Farmer's Breakfast which was a fluffy omelet with spinach and onions and crispy bacon inside. It came with artisan toast and breakfast potatoes. It was delicious! The fresh spinach inside was yummy and the rosemary on the potatoes was awesome! I put fresh rosemary and sage on just about everything I cook! Its was an elevated dish with all the right Seasonings! My boyfriend had a coffee and I had a buttery glass of chardonnay. We sat in the enclosed outdoor space because I had my puppy with me. So relaxing ( next to the pool). Enjoyed breakfast by the firepit. They also have a full bar and happy hour. Let's not forget they have rooftop dining with a bar and happy hour ( i think rooftop opens at 2pm). Such a wonderful service with a very kind waitress ( Ssndra??) who brought Wlbur a water dish to keep that has their name on the bottom of the dish! Our server was prompt, polite, and friendly, which we appreciated. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with lots of natural light and a pleasant atmosphere. I'd describe it as "Chico nice" -- casual and trendy, but not fine dining or especially refined service. The food was okay to good, but nothing memorable. We ordered the avocado toast, chicken sandwich, a beer, and a sweet drink, and the total came to about $72. Everything was perfectly fine, just not the kind of food or experience that would make me want to return, especially for a birthday celebration. Overall, it's a decent spot for a casual lunch, but it didn't feel particularly special for the price.

We had kids with us, so we got there an hour before it became 21+. Everyone was friendly, the food came pretty quick relative to how hopping it was. We ordered: Pho-rench dip (w/fries)--I think this was a DDD sandwich, so it's not some hidden gem, but it was super tasty. You cannot go wrong. The slight lime-iness of the dipping broth really kicked it into turbo. Also, we all likes the steak fries--a note on that later. Chicken Cheese Steak (w/fries)--my wife loved it. I tried a bite, and it was great--a little mushroom-forward, but we like that. Mac and Cheese--do not be fooled by the slightly smaller bowl, it is very filling. My son can eat his birth weight in pasta, and he had to tap out! I tried a bite--it was creamy (not grainy at all), and was just the right amount of salty and cheese-funky. Grilled cheese and tomato soup (w/fries)--perhaps the least successful for my family, but only because my daughter prefers a smoky/spicy tomato soup, and this was more on the sweet side. The griled cheese was of the "crispy cheese on the outside" ilk, which my daughter thought was really good. So, totally would go again. IMPORTANT NOTE (to people traveling through Chico, or who don't want to take leftovers)--the sandwiches are pretty big, and the add-on fry order is also sizeable. If we were going again tomorrow, we would either order 1 fry instead of 3. Or split a sandwich. Very very good pub.

Not sure if it was on "off" day for the chef but the Shepherds pie had zero flavor as if no spices or salt was used. The celery and carrots were undercooked and crunchy. There was hardly any meat and veg compared to the amount of potatoes on top. Potatoes also had no flavor of salt or butter. So bland and blech! Aside from the taste of the terrible food, the prices were way too high for the amount of food..$26 for a very small shepherds pie. There is no wait staff. You place your order at the counter. Once we ordered and paid for two shepherds pies (with the tip upfront) we found a table and sat down. The cashier then came to tell us there was only one shepherds pie left (on a Saturday at 5:30 in the evening?) and we could order something else and since we had already paid, he would give us another drink or something to offset the difference. We then ordered The Rancher. This also had hardly any filling with a puff pastry on top. Again, way overpriced at $24. We didn't get another drink to make up for the price difference. On top of all this, the Saturday evening "entertainment" was a group of senior citizens singing songs from the 50's and 60's very LOUDLY. It was a strange choice for a weekend night at a bar. No offense to the singers but wow, it was awkward as you feel as if you have to give a bit of applause since they are literally right next to the table. We left after eating a small amount and went to find dinner somewhere else.
