From the front desk to assistant to doctors they were all very kind and helpful. The doctor was very professional, honest, and informative.

It bothers me that there are negative reviews at all about this place. I was told from an emergency vet that eye drops will do nothing and I absolutely had to have her eye removed immediately. They also said only one eye was affected which wasn't the case. So if we did spend the $2300 it would have only been a matter of time before she would need the other removed. I love this dog so much, if given a choice I would give her my own eye. Thank god we drove to Beaverton to get another opinion. They not only saved my dog's eye, they were able to make her comfortable which is everything. My dog is very fearful of the vet and she seemed to trust them very quickly. We were also able to be with her for her entire appointment which we could not at the other place. read more

Care here was so bad that my regular vet has removed this clinic from eye specialists they recommend for their clients. Dr Moody was terrible to work with. I felt she neglected my cats needs by not medicating his anxiety adequately and communicating very poorly about why she didn't/wouldnt. I didn't even finish care here. I paid for a service and was fine to let them keep the money if that meant I didn't have to come here anymore. I left and went to Blue Pearl who fixed the issue this clinic caused. Our vet recommended (referred us to) this clinic for our Beagle's lump in lower left eyelid. Lump was growing large and the conventional vet office provided and estimate of over $2500 for eye surgery that removes a portion of the eyelid. We wanted a less invasive and more cost effective option. The Animal Eye Doctor scheduled us very fast! We were very satisfied with Dr. Crystal Boles and her staff. Dr Boles asked many questions and examined carefully our pooch, and she produced a diagnose. A quick procedure followed, after which our dog was ready to go home and the problem has been addressed. 24h later, the area has healed really well. When it comes to animal ophthalmology, your options are frighteningly limited in the Portland metro area. Fortunately, the Animal Eye Doctor seems to employ competent and knowledgeable specialists who know their stuff, but their expertise comes saddled with the burdens of outdated COVID practices and "man-behind-the-curtain" levels of separation and obfuscation from the examination. I don't live in Beaverton, so they're not in a particularly convenient location, but I'm willing to do what it takes to help my geriatric buddy boy. He's fourteen years old, has been diabetic for 6 of those years, and as a result has developed cataracts in his eyes that have steadily grown worse over the years. He's almost totally blind, but that hasn't stopped him from thriving: he's memorized the entire house, knows how to get around, and still enjoys playing in the yard or going to the beach. Unfortunately, I'd noticed something off about his left eye: some sort of abscess or similar growth on the surface, and of course, I'd assumed the absolute worst. I immediately called the Animal Eye Doctor and booked an appointment. Their soonest availability was three weeks out, but it was the best I could do, so I scheduled it, and spent the next twenty-some days fretting about the health of my little guy, painfully aware of his discomfort. I did my best to medicate him with doggy aspirin and similar things to help alleviate the worst of his symptoms. When the time for his appointment finally came, my anxiety was compounded by the clinic's insistence on maintaining COVID practices such as curb-side pickup, and all consultation taking place over the phone. It is difficult to feel good about a comprehensive visit when you are left out of the exam, and unable to iterate your concerns by voice alone. I understand people's reservations about COVID, despite all restrictions being lifted and cases being in decline for weeks, so this felt cold and unnecessary. Further frustrating the experience was being left in the dark on the cost of the office visit (somehow this is variable?), as well as being left out of any meaningful discussion of prescriptions and treatment plans until things had been decided by the veterinary practitioner. The whole process felt more like ordering a pizza, dropping off the ingredients (doggo), and picking it up when it's ready. Still, when all was said and done, the diagnosis was nowhere near as terrifying as I'd expected it to be, I was sent home with a pupper, a plan, and a prescription, and Dr. Disney (what a name!) was clear and concise with her explanation and analysis of his issue. I'm relieved that things are manageable, affordable, and hopeful, and I'm willing to suffer the aforementioned inconveniences, if it means by fluffy little guy is going to be OK. We might not have a plethora of options for our furry friends' eye health in the region, but with the specialists at the Animal Eye Doctor, you're in good hands, draconian office practices notwithstanding. read more

Only one doctor is at this facility, thus your emergency is necessarily going to be delayed - period. Not a good option for your loved pet that is in pain and in danger of sight loss. Look everywhere for a larger staff of doctors. My dog had blinding cataracts. I had her lenses replaced. Within a year she developed glaucoma blindness, as do about one third or more of female dogs . Big mistake on my part for she was without pain and now in pain . Thus she's now on a host of medications to elevate the pain. So sad I made the wrong decision. SAD !! read more

Indifferent business owners have allowed an incompetent group of women to run the show. Poor manners on the phone ( complaining about phone ringing, too manny calls etc) , inability to deal with the needs of clients and an absolute lack of interest in having good relations with clients make this veterinary office a sure miss. I gotta say, this Dr. K was extremely unhelpful and unkind to me and my dog. I'd been seen several times as a reoccurring patient, and one time when I rushed my dog in for an emergency type visit for an ulcer that was not healing, I stupidly forgot my wallet. I offered to go get it while they looked her over but they refused to treat her without payment up front. Just flat out let my dog suffer until I drove back the 45 minutes to get my wallet. I was livid. Because of this incident combined with seeing no progress from Dr. K's treatment plan, I decided to take my dog to another ophthalmologist for a second opinion. This new vet told me that one of the meds Dr. K prescribed was actually preventing the eye ulcer from healing and was confused why it was prescribed in the first place. I'm not into slandering people but I'd think twice before taking your animals here. read more

Very good vet but their office procedure prevented them filling my dog's eye drops which my dog has needed for the past two years and which they prescribed and have been filling. When I requested a refill they said a new appointment was needed and they could not schedule it until September. It is currently July 7. I think this is a cruel office practice for my dog. My own physician can approve prescription refills within 24 hours as needed. I think it is crazy that my dog will need to go two months until they can refill this prescription. My advice - go to a vet that has a more responsive approach. Nobody should wait two months for an appointment and especially not for eye problems. I got super lucky and was able to get a same day appointment (thank you to the person who canceled!) for my lab Kona. Kona has had a lingering eye issue that just wouldn't heal and quite honestly I believe the nature of Kona's eye problems were way out of the scope of my regular vet's expertise. Dr. Kirschner and resident Dr. Wong were both very thorough and very attentive. Dr. Kirschner's diagnosis appears to be spot on as Kona is already feeling better and starting to act like her old self. I was both surprised and relieved to have found the competence, confidence and expertise that my dog needed. I'd give this office TEN STARS if I could! read more

My dog developed an eye issue over the summer and I visited a couple vets 6 or so times over 5 months and neither was able to give me an answer as to why my dog was having this issue with her eye. It was very frustrating to see my dog so uncomfortable. I visited Dr. Kirschner and within 10 minutes she identified the cause of my dog's eye problems. My dog has an abusive past so she is very uncomfortable with strangers working on her. Dr. Kirschner was amazing by helping calm her down and making her feel comfortable. This review has been a long time coming. Dr. Kirschner seems to know her stuff, and when you are dealing with a pet with eye problems, it is very reassuring to take your pet to someone who is a specialist. My kitty had a terrible herpes ulcer on her eye. My regular vet seemed to be perplexed by what to do about this, so it was very nice to find someone who specialized in animal eye conditions. Or so I thought. The medical office is nice, if a little cold. I'd say, in the 4 years we took our cat to that office, we were seen at our actual appointment time maybe twice? Often we would wait 15-45 minutes after our appointment time to be seen. Now, I totally get this can happen... overbookings can happen, emergencies can push back appointments, etc. But it was a problem of epidemic proportions. My wife once mentioned this issue to Dr. Kirschner, and her response was (to paraphrase) that if we did not like it, we could find someone else. We tolerated this attitude because we love our cat and let's face it... there aren't very many animal eye specialists out there. My biggest issue with Dr. K is her lack of empathy. Maybe she has seen so many animals in pain that their plights no longer move her. All I know is one day, my poor kitty's cornea ruptured because the ulcer had eaten into the cornea. This, like all pet emergencies, happened at 5pm on a Friday, when the Animal Eye Doctor was closed. My wife and I rushed our cat to a pet hospital we had never been to before, and the vets there suggested we remove the eye as it was too damaged. We decided, stupidly, that before making such a decision, we should consult with Dr. Kirschner who had been our cat's eye doctor for years. When we got ahold of Dr. Kirschner, she told us over the phone before even examining our cat, that we should, in no way, have the eye removed. Fine... we made an appointment to have our kitty seen. We were told they were all booked up though, and we would have to drop her off. Hmm, all those other times, other people's emergencies knocked back our appointment, and now our cat with a POPPED EYEBALL that has been under your care for 4 years doesn't rate an earlier look? Now, as anyone dealing with feline herpes knows, stress is a trigger, so in the interest of keeping the herpes quiescent in the remaining eyeball, we wanted to minimize our cat's stress. Dropping a cat off to sit in a cage in a vet's office surrounded by barking dogs isn't the best approach to this. So we told them... we would like to have our cat sitting in the back as little as possible, so please let us know when would be the best time to drop her off, and we will pick her up the instant the exam is done so we can get her home. We dropped her off around 8am. They told us it would be about an hour. 9am passes. We call, and she hasn't been seen. 10am, same thing. Is this a joke? I kid you not, they strung us along until they closed at the end of the day. Our cat was seen as the last patient. We know this because when we went to pick up our cat, the doctor was long gone, and called us on her cell phone from her car. Our poor cat had to sit in that loud office all day long in a cage, miserable, with a popped eyeball. I'm getting quite angry re-living this. Why not call us and say, "Hey, the old doc is pretty busy, why don't you pick up your cat and at least keep her at home so you can keep her comfortable while we find another time to have her seen?" Use your brains, ffs. So then Dr. Kirschner tells us that the eye can be saved, and she will do some work on it IN A WEEK. Seems like a long time to wait for a cat with one popped eye, no? Well, we found out why she wanted to wait a week. Dr. Kirschner only does surgeries on a specific day of the week, and instead of having us perform the work at another clinic, she would rather make the money and have our cat suffer for a week. That was the final straw, we took our cat to get actual proper care that afternoon. This callousness and frankly sociopathic disregard for animal suffering makes me question all of the treatment we received from Dr. Kirschner over the years. I've related some of the stories about the Animal Eye Doctor to our current vet, and she recoiled in minor horror at some of the things I've said. Like Dr. Kirschner shaving the eye ulcer with a razor blade and a dremel-type device, all while the cat is only under local anasthetic and clearly terrified. At the time, I thought "Okay, this is the expert." Now I think, "That was the quack." You made my cat suffer needlessly Dr. Kirschner. Perhaps you never gave her the care she really needed and through your inaction caused her eye to pop. And you charged me thousands of dollars and wasted hours of my time to do so. Much time has passed since this, and I am still angry about it. Don't take your pets here. Really, don't. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I had made an appointment for my dog, went in and they gave my appointment away. They said I didn't confirm the appointment and if you don't they give it to someone else. I wasn't made aware of this as no one had told me so I made another appointment. Yesterday I get a call and I confirm the appointment I have for Monday then today I get a call saying I did not confirm and if I don't call by 1 my appointment is given away. Well I get home at 4 so now this appointment is also given away, even though I had confirmed yesterday!!!!! I can't even express how frustrated I am, waiting weeks and weeks and they keep giving away my appointment....I freakin confirmed Damnit! We took our beloved Puggle Kunu to her office when he went blind due to cataracts. From the moment we met her she was informative, warm & so kind to our dog. Unfortunately our dog passed away shortly after surgery due to a large cancer mass in his stomach that no one knew about. I would never hesitate to refer her to anyone. read more

Dr. Susan Kirshner is amazing. She got my dog in on an emergency basis to evaluate a punctured ulcer and I am confident my dog will heal beautifully with her expert knowledge. Her demeanor and thoughtfulness was something I don't often see in veterinary situations and was so appreciated. Most importantly she took the time to properly show me how to easily put meds in a dog's eye when they are in pain. This can be very tricky but she made it so easy. This Dr saw my cat we just rescued. His eye was very infected frim feline herpes. She gave us eye drops for 6 weeks with no follow up for almost 3 months out. Well guess what it didnt take care of the problem. My cats eye is still messed up and our follow up isn't even for another 3 weeks. Who does that to their patient? You are clearly way to busy to be taking on new patients and they are not getting the assistance they need. Thats not right. I am very dissapointed. My Chihuahua had an eye ulcer. My vet recommended Dr. Kirschner and/or a group of specialists in Clackamas. Dr. Kirschner is very close to my home so I made an appointment with her. However, she is very busy and the appointment was about 6 weeks out. They put me on the cancellation list and we were called after a couple of weeks. The doctor did a grid on the eye and within a couple of weeks she was healed !! Now you would never know that she had any issues with her eye !
