Amelia's Rustic Mexican Restaurant: Vegan Enchiladas Santa Clara
    Chiemi N.

I chose Amelia's Rustic Mexican Restaurant for an early Father's Day celebration because it's between my daughter's place and mine. They have food for every type of diet. Clearly marked vegan items. I came here last week with my sister and liked it so much that I couldn't wait to go back. My daughter lives 3 minutes away. I texted her when I was on my way, but then we were detained. So she got there 10-15 minutes before me and her dad. She and her 2 kids were at a table waiting the whole time and never received chips and salsa, or drinks. Today the service pretty much sucked. There weren't even that many diners in the restaurant. After my daughter's dad and I arrived, we waited a bit for anyone to come and take our drink order. My ex was ready for a Long Island iced tea before we even got there. You know, my daughter and 2 grandsons were waiting 10-15 minutes for us to arrive and they were never asked if they want drinks. Kids can get a little rambunctious waiting for drinks or food, so why not placate them with chips and beverage? Anyways, we put our order in. Before the food arrived, I had to ask someone's retreating back if we could get more chips. After the food arrived, they didn't check on us. I had to go to the bar to put in another drink order. Towards the end of the meal, I asked the guy bussing the table next to ours if we could get boxes. When he was bringing them, our waitress brought our bill. I had to go up to the bar to give it back because she wasn't coming over and I was ready to leave. I still liked the Vegan Enchiladas Santa Clara, but my family wasn't very enthusiastic about their dishes. I was there on a Sunday last time, and the service was good. If I go back, that may be the time for me to go!

Stopped by on a Wednesday lunch @ 1 p.m. with a party of three. The restaurant was mostly empty and we had all the attention of Julia who sat us quickly and took our orders. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was clean and Julia was friendly and quite knowledgeable of the menu items.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I always ask for new things on the menu since I've been here a few times and kinda know the offerings. They had a couple of special items and I selected the following. $14.49 Steak Picado Tacos (Wednesday Special). The meal size was decent, well made, delicious. I was hungry and just cleaned out the plate :) Next time I'm around, I'll try the other special items on the menu.

pozole and tacos al pastor :)

[[HIGHLIGHT]]very humbly environment![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] attentive and great customer service and amazing food :) would highly recommend to people :) two family owned locations in hillsboro:)

Lived here 2 decades and never knew about this place but visiting some old Intel friends and they suggested this authentic place. Had Enchiladas Jarochas and loved the spicy dish. Only three stars for subpar service had to flag them down for more chips as well as water, sorry should't have to ask!!!! BTW for the price I can't recall a place where you don't get more chips and the water I shouldn't have to ask for multiple times ;)

Amelia's is right in the heart of downtown Hillsboro (they also have another location by Griffin Oaks Park). They have delicious food, friendly service, and good portions! This location has outdoor seating for those sunny days and it also seems that they do a lot of takeout as well. Everything inside is colorful and vibrant, and the music is upbeat and catchy. There are food specials for each day of the week and happy hour too! The free chips we got were a little overcooked and almost too crunchy but it's still a good vessel to dip in the salsa. I got the Tacos Al Carbon (highly recommend!) it came with rice and beans and a spicy salsa. The meat was flavorful and extra savory from the tortillas being dipped into the meat juice. My friend got the Enchiladas Verde which was also very good and creamy. Our meals costed around $16 and I had 1 taco with rice and beans as leftovers for lunch the next day. Checking out was a little confusing because I thought they would bring you the check but you actually had to go up and pay at their register area. They were pretty busy for a Wednesday night so service was a little slow but there were only 2-4 people working so I appreciated their effort. Come support this local business!

Consistently good - both service and the food. Amelia's is totally a local gem located in an expected place (industrial/office business space with not much else around except for a local park). Most patrons come from the local neighborhood or nearby businesses such as Intel. Note to Intel workers: if you come here for lunch, you will see people you work with, so be mindful of what you say and who you talk about! On this particular occasion, I visited for lunch with friends. I was greeted and seated shortly after walking in and for a Friday it wasn't busy at all. On previous occasions (pre pandemic) it would be packed during the lunch hour. We each ordered something different and each plate looked beautiful (presentation) and the food tasted great. I was a total basic biatch and ordered a chicken burrito with a Modelo, which came with a lime wedge and I must say it was incredible. I haven't been drinking at all lately but that beer totally hit the spot. Highly recommend checking this place out if you want classic Mexican dishes in a casual environment.

Amelia's is not in a usual strip mall. Some friends at work mention a great Mexican food place that was in an industrial plaza and mention that the food was amazing. This week while in Hillsboro I found it. The restaurant is at the end of a business plaza off of a main road near the Hillsboro airport. The interior is small, lots of local business employees waiting in-line they also have an ample outdoor seating area. The menu has many traditional plates, the one that caught my eye was the Pozole, a tradition soup. The pork Pozole had an amazing flavor reminded me of home, they serve it with cilantro and onions on the side, two crunchy tortillas and to my surprise lettuce. This was a treat, along with a great salsa and chip serving I left feeling full and looking forward to returning to taste some of there other dishes. The service was quick even with the lunch rush. I would say get there earlier indoor seating is limited.

Came back here and just had to update my review, to repeat the five stars and sing their praises. This is the kind of place Yelp was created for. A place you'd never think of going to. A place you'd never even notice if you drove past it. And there's no reason on earth you'd ever drive past this place at the far end of an ugly, industrial strip mall unless you lived in the nearby neighborhood. (They have a bright, cheerful space in the midst of this sparse industrialness) This is the kind of place Anthony Bourdain would love to visit and rave about. He'd try everything on their menu and adore every moment of that experience. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant (and I love your typical Mexican restaurant). This is more of a gourmet Mexican restaurant (without the stuffiness). It's the kind of place you'd find on the East side of Portland. This is a place of Excellence. It's a place of deep Tradition. Many of their dishes are based on traditional Mayan recipes (I'd love to understand that connection better). You owe it to yourself (and to them) to try one of their specialties. That's how I first discovered their Brilliance. I think these dishes are what sets them apart (though I've not had their Enchiladas yet). This visit I tried the Carne Arrachera. The flavors were delightful. This is how food is supposed to be. This is living :) This is definitely my go to place for Mexican food. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of their menu. A picture says a thousand words so I'll let my pic of the Arrachera say the rest.

At first, we weren't sure about the setup--whether to wait for a table or order at the bar--but it was so laid-back that we just found a seat and settled in. One of the things I loved was all the TVs on the walls--there were so many showing different games and the news. I'm not a huge sports fan, but it was really nice having that entertainment in the background while my fiancé enjoyed it too. We came mainly for the gambling machines, but everything else exceeded our expectations. My fiancé ordered our drinks at the bar--he got a Modelo and I had a Boneyard--and they were both excellent. For food, we tried the Cowboy Burger with fries, and wow... it was incredible. I was honestly in awe--it was that good! The service was also fantastic. The staff checked in on us without being intrusive, making sure we were comfortable and happy with our food. Overall, it was a relaxed, fun experience, and we left wanting to come back. If you haven't made the…read moretrip to Top Burmese Ambassador on Main Street, you are missing out on one of the most unique and soulful dining experiences in the Portland area. While the original NW 21st location is a classic, the "Ambassador" location in Hillsboro feels like a true elevation of the brand, combining incredible hospitality with a menu that is a masterclass in Burmese flavors. Here is why this spot is an absolute 5-star gem: The Tea Leaf Salad (Laphet Thoke): You cannot visit a Top Burmese location without ordering this. It is the gold standard--fermented tea leaves mixed with crunchy peanuts, toasted sesame, fried garlic, and fresh lime. It's a texture and flavor explosion that is unlike anything else in Southeast Asian cuisine. The Golden Samosas: These are a "super duper" must-order. They are flaky, perfectly spiced, and served with a house-made sauce that provides the perfect tangy kick. If you want something even more comforting, their Samosa Soup is the ultimate rainy-day cure. Standout Mains: The Coconut Noodle Soup (Khao Soi) is incredibly rich and aromatic, with just the right amount of creaminess. For a more savory, hearty option, the Beef Curry with Pan-Toasted Paratha is spectacular--the beef is fork-tender and the paratha is buttery and crisp. The Service: The "Ambassador" name is fitting because the staff truly acts as ambassadors for their culture. They are incredibly patient in explaining the menu to newcomers and make excellent recommendations based on your spice tolerance. Atmosphere: The interior is beautifully designed--vibrant, warm, and upscale without being stuffy. It feels like a "mini-vacation" right in the heart of Hillsboro. Pro Tip: This location is incredibly vegan-friendly (about 70% of the menu can be made plant-based!), so it's the perfect spot for a group with diverse dietary needs. Don't leave without trying the Burma Blue cocktail--it's as beautiful as it is delicious!

We ordered the green tea leaf salad, the turmeric fries, the chicken curry with paratha, the all-star okra curry, the coconut noodle soup, and the kheema paratha. I also tried the grass jelly drink. I can't choose my top favorite among everything that we tried. The green tea salad was very unique and I would never have ordered it myself. Now, I'm a fan. The turmeric fries were so delicious too! The chicken curry with the paratha was very Desi and excellent tasting. The okra had a homemade feel to it. I would've liked a side of paratha with it, rather than rice. The kheema paratha was excellent. The coconut noodle soup was like a nice warming/satisfying coconut curry with noodles. The grass jelly was interesting and I know that most of the jelly was left in the can, so while it is nice tasting, I wouldn't recommend drinking it in a can. The Hillsboro location is a little small but this restaurant and the server helping out are both an absolute delight and I highly recommend coming here!!

But I'll go into more about that later. Here's why I would choose Blue Ox for entertainment versus the others: First of all, the bar/restaurant is located in the heart of old school downtown Hillsboro. It's mostly street parking, but there is a parking lot and garage nearby. I'll just say, I've always been lucky finding parking next to the place. Upon entering, you'll notice they've got a dining area well large enough to accompany and entertain big groups. Past that is an open area for cornhole and couches for lounging, and a lovely bar after that. It's surprisingly huge! I mean, I haven't even mentioned the throwing lanes yet lol. But yeah, just past the bar area, they've got about 8 or 10 throwing lanes. Here's why Blue Ox stands out to me... ~ We met up with manager (possibly owner), Lonnie, who first took our food order and he explained a bit about Fat Baby Barbecue that provides the food for the space they share. The Q was really tasty and worth a try if you're hungry for some smoky-meaty goodness. ~ After eating, over at the lanes area, Lonnie discussed the rules and showed my team the basics on how to throw. But here's the cool part... Each lane had a remote control to choose what games you want to play. It's not just a big red and white target you throw at, but the targets are projected onto the board and it keeps score for you. I'm sure it's not a new concept, but this I've never done a other axe throwing places. ~ But here's the best kicker of all! They let us try their fancy throwing knives and ninja stars. Again, another feature I've never done at others. We all had a blast using these. So overall, in short, if you need an entertaining date night. Or need a spacious venue that provides decent barbecue and bar food for your family or workmates, then this is your place. Come check it out!
