Loved this place! I ordered one of their bowls and added the spicy beef--definitely has a kick, but it was incredibly flavorful and super lean with no excess fat, which I really appreciated. The rice was perfectly cooked and really tasty. The only small downside for me was the beans--they were a bit on the watery side and could use a little more body and seasoning. We also tried the chips with chorizo queso, and those were a standout--rich, savory, and totally worth it. Overall, a great experience with fresh, quality ingredients and bold flavors. We door dashed from this place and were extremely disappointed with the delivery speed, food packaging and even the flavors were absent. The fish burrito had avocado which was not mentioned in the menu, the battery fried fish was good but even light pica de gallo was a lot of tomatoes which made the entire burrito soggy. This afternoon was my first visit to either of the Amelia's restaurant. It was just after the lunch, rush, so the problems with service that other reviewers have not noted was not a particular problem. I tried the Cadillac Margarita first, and I enjoyed it very much. As I was finishing my lunch, it was happy hour, so I enjoyed the Classic Margarita for only seven dollars. For lunch, I ordered the Mole Enchiladas , which were delicious and I heartily recommend. Definitely mole made in house. The service was solid, but given how few tables had customers, could've been better. Not really complaining here, but I will say it was notable enough that I need to give four stars instead of five. To wrap it up, it was a delicious lunch and I certainly plan to return. I chose Amelia's Rustic Mexican Restaurant for an early Father's Day celebration because it's between my daughter's place and mine. They have food for every type of diet. Clearly marked vegan items. I came here last week with my sister and liked it so much that I couldn't wait to go back. My daughter lives 3 minutes away. I texted her when I was on my way, but then we were detained. So she got there 10-15 minutes before me and her dad. She and her 2 kids were at a table waiting the whole time and never received chips and salsa, or drinks. Today the service pretty much sucked. There weren't even that many diners in the restaurant. After my daughter's dad and I arrived, we waited a bit for anyone to come and take our drink order. My ex was ready for a Long Island iced tea before we even got there. You know, my daughter and 2 grandsons were waiting 10-15 minutes for us to arrive and they were never asked if they want drinks. Kids can get a little rambunctious waiting for drinks or food, so why not placate them with chips and beverage? Anyways, we put our order in. Before the food arrived, I had to ask someone's retreating back if we could get more chips. After the food arrived, they didn't check on us. I had to go to the bar to put in another drink order. Towards the end of the meal, I asked the guy bussing the table next to ours if we could get boxes. When he was bringing them, our waitress brought our bill. I had to go up to the bar to give it back because she wasn't coming over and I was ready to leave. Lived here 2 decades and never knew about this place but visiting some old Intel friends and they suggested this authentic place. Had Enchiladas Jarochas and loved the spicy dish. Amelia's is right in the heart of downtown Hillsboro (they also have another location by Griffin Oaks Park). They have delicious food, friendly service, and good portions! This location has outdoor seating for those sunny days and it also seems that they do a lot of takeout as well. Everything inside is colorful and vibrant, and the music is upbeat and catchy. There are food specials for each day of the week and happy hour too! The free chips we got were a little overcooked and almost too crunchy but it's still a good vessel to dip in the salsa. I got the Tacos Al Carbon (highly recommend!) it came with rice and beans and a spicy salsa. The meat was flavorful and extra savory from the tortillas being dipped into the meat juice. My friend got the Enchiladas Verde which was also very good and creamy. Our meals costed around $16 and I had 1 taco with rice and beans as leftovers for lunch the next day. Checking out was a little confusing because I thought they would bring you the check but you actually had to go up and pay at their register area. Consistently good - both service and the food. Amelia's is totally a local gem located in an expected place (industrial/office business space with not much else around except for a local park). Most patrons come from the local neighborhood or nearby businesses such as Intel. Note to Intel workers: if you come here for lunch, you will see people you work with, so be mindful of what you say and who you talk about! On this particular occasion, I visited for lunch with friends. I was greeted and seated shortly after walking in and for a Friday it wasn't busy at all. On previous occasions (pre pandemic) it would be packed during the lunch hour. We each ordered something different and each plate looked beautiful (presentation) and the food tasted great. I was a total basic biatch and ordered a chicken burrito with a Modelo, which came with a lime wedge and I must say it was incredible. Amelia's is not in a usual strip mall. Some friends at work mention a great Mexican food place that was in an industrial plaza and mention that the food was amazing. This week while in Hillsboro I found it. The restaurant is at the end of a business plaza off of a main road near the Hillsboro airport. The interior is small, lots of local business employees waiting in-line they also have an ample outdoor seating area. The menu has many traditional plates, the one that caught my eye was the Pozole, a tradition soup. The pork Pozole had an amazing flavor reminded me of home, they serve it with cilantro and onions on the side, two crunchy tortillas and to my surprise lettuce. This was a treat, along with a great salsa and chip serving I left feeling full and looking forward to returning to taste some of there other dishes. The service was quick even with the lunch rush. I would say get there earlier indoor seating is limited. read more

You know the first time that I went to Amelia's the food was phenomenal but this last time we went there the food wasn't even warm. I mean it was really bad. Came back here and just had to update my review, to repeat the five stars and sing their praises. This is the kind of place Yelp was created for. A place you'd never think of going to. A place you'd never even notice if you drove past it. And there's no reason on earth you'd ever drive past this place at the far end of an ugly, industrial strip mall unless you lived in the nearby neighborhood. (They have a bright, cheerful space in the midst of this sparse industrialness) This is the kind of place Anthony Bourdain would love to visit and rave about. He'd try everything on their menu and adore every moment of that experience. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant (and I love your typical Mexican restaurant). This is more of a gourmet Mexican restaurant (without the stuffiness). It's the kind of place you'd find on the East side of Portland. This is a place of Excellence. It's a place of deep Tradition. Many of their dishes are based on traditional Mayan recipes (I'd love to understand that connection better). You owe it to yourself (and to them) to try one of their specialties. That's how I first discovered their Brilliance. I think these dishes are what sets them apart (though I've not had their Enchiladas yet). This visit I tried the Carne Arrachera. The flavors were delightful. This is how food is supposed to be. This is living :) This is definitely my go to place for Mexican food. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of their menu. Having lived in the southwest before moving here has turned me into a jaded critic of Mexican food everywhere else. It took a lot of disappointing meals to finally find this tasty place. The service and vibes here are top notch. We've always had really good experiences with the staff here. It's got a homely feel to it which I love! Much kudos to them for having a vegetarian menu with more than one item. Their burritos are absolutely delicious. They've made it spicier for me when I've asked. I'm a sucker for their Santa Maria burrito. The husband has tried burrito loco and burrito azabache and pronounced them to be perfect. Other items we've tried are the choriqueso and hot chocolate from their specials. Both topnotch. There are some really talented chefs here. Their corn tortillas are amazing. They were so good that we actually got a bulk order to go for Christmas. My heart aches for the unique flavors of the southwest and while this place is not exactly that - it comes close and helps fill that void quite a bit. read more

I want to start this review by saying how much I hope Amelia's will change. I have been a Hillsboro resident for over half of my life, and have been going to the restaurant for over ten years. Over the summer of 2024 I went about three times (which is a lot of eating out for my family), and on the last trip of the summer we were surprised at the end with a bill that did not match the prices on the menu. The food was more expensive than on the menu, and the drinks were more expensive. It took a bill that should have been 30-40 dollars up to about 50. I questioned the price, and the server was quick to change the bill. I just figured maybe they needed to change the menu, and as the food was still fine I brushed it off. Fast forward to January 2025, we go back, we order margaritas and two entrees, ask for chips and salsa, and are told that it's now 5 dollars for unlimited chips and salsa (which of course, they're allowed to charge), but also the margarita we ordered cost 17 on the menu, but we were charged 20.50 for the drink... the explanation was that they charge a 3.5% credit card fee (which if you're a math person, know that doesn't equal $3.50 extra cost). I can't necessarily speak on portion size either, but my meal felt way smaller than over the summer, even though it was more expensive. Overall I'm really disappointed in the service. It feels a bit scammy to have the menu be one price, but charge something else. There was about a six month gap between my visits, and in my opinion thats plenty of time to update the menu. I did ask the server about the discrepancy, and he was quick to credit me... but also pointed out that they have a small little placard about the credit card charge up front (which, in my opinion should be explained on the menu). I will not be going back to Amelia's, and I will no longer recommend it to anyone else. If you are going to make changes, you need to be upfront with the changes. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this gem! It's located in an office park area, tucked away around complexes of buildings. I had the Bistek dish and it was flavored just perfectly, which paired well with the chips and very tasty salsa! The restaurant was clean and the people there are very pleasant. Our food came out fast which we needed since this was a lunch outing and we needed to get back to work quickly. :) I'll definitely be back here next time I'm in the area! My husband loves Mexican food and since moving to Oregon almost 2 years ago we haven't found a Mexican place we love. We just recently moved into this area and saw this place had really good reviews on Yelp, so we decided to go try it out. It's a really cute little place. Wasn't too busy when we got there so they were able to seat us right away. I recently found out I need to stay away from dairy, and a lot more, so I was excited to see they had vegan options. Drinks and food were so good. Big portions of food. The flavors they used for both the sauce on the burrito and the chips had really good flavors. I think we have found our Mexican spot. read more

My previous experiences here have been good but the last one was a misfire. The manager/owner cares a lot about customer satisfaction so I decided to come back. I returned for happy hour and this experience was much better than the last. I ordered street tacos, Happy Hour burrito, and a margarita. It was Taco Tuesday so all the street tacos cost $1. I got 4 tacos in all. The carne asada and pollo were good choices. The Happy Hour burrito is a great value but next time, I will pay more for a higher quality burrito. Even though the burrito azabache is objectively too spicy for me, I cannot and will not stop eating it. The flavor is out of this world. I do recommend some extra sour cream or guacamole though to help cool off. I also recommend the Choriqueso with soft tacos, and the enchiladas and moles are solid. We arrived at dinner time. It was occupied but not overly crowded. We received chips and salsa immediately and our drink orders were received pretty quickly. After we ordered our food, at least an hour passes and no food. Other tables who arrived after us received food in a timely manner. I gave the benefit of the doubt in thinking they may be busy and have lots of orders back logged but that wasn't the case as our table was the only one not receiving service or check ins at and adequate response rate. Gratefully, our drinks were not charged to the bill. We were in the restaurant for about an hour and a half total before receiving food to go and paying for it on the way out. 4.5 stars! A local (my mom, hehe) alerted me of this Mexican eatery near her workplace, so we had to check it out. Yes, they are located in an industrial-ish area, and yes they are kind of secluded and the only open business in the area after 6pm, but that's not the point. Once you're inside, its a fiesta! The staff is very courteous, and the place was bustling for a weekday evening. We were seated promptly, and complimentary chips & salsa was served. The menu is huge, but impressive since they have vegetarian options galore. I ordered the Chile Relleno, and also tried the enchilada platter. They were courteous enough to swap steak for chicken in one of the fajita platters, something that we greatly appreciated. (some eateries are not into substitutions, which is disappointing but understandable) Overall, it was a great outing! Serving size was HUGE, meals are decently priced, service is prompt and courteous, and ambiance is perfect! I just wish they were located closer to Portland :( read more

Don't believe all the reviews. there from local people who have maybe never really tasted what real Mexican food is like. OR this place just had an off night. Ordered the chicken Mole burrito and 90% of the burrito was filled with rice. maybe a tablespoon of refried beans and 5 chunks of what appeared to be shredded chicken. But flavorless. The Molé sauce was some brown, bland gravy, barely any spices, no chocolate flavor, and then a sliver of sour cream on top that I guess was supposed to resemble Mexican Caciique cheese. The beans are semi-runny, so you would need to eat them with a spoon The chips were out of a bag, so don't expect much. The only good thing to say was the salsa was flavorful and tasty. I understand food costs are up and owners are trying to cut expenses, but..... Maybe the owner can travel outside his bubble and experience other cultures and cuisines that offer Hispanic meals. We travel across all 50 states, we know the difference between different cultures and areas of South America for Mexican cuisine. Take a trip to 4th Ave in Tucson to experience flavor. Eaten here lots of times as it's right down the street from our house. Still at a 4 star based on history, but after the last visit almost dropped a star. The enchiladas morelianas have always been my favorite. They were ok - not the flavor i was used to. The rest of the food at our table was about the same way. Good but not like it used to be. The other thing is they're pricing is getting above what the food is worth. They have a sign concerning minimum wage- and i do understand the challenges that come with a business like this. But if the food charge passes the worth you can easily lose business. Hope adjustments are made as this has been a great place for the last few years. read more

Tuesday April 9th wasn't very exciting. Had a pretty good day @ work and I recieved a text that the kids wanted Mexican food for dinner. My first thought was Peppers, but my wife reminded me that we had a much better option available to us. There is not a better day to visit Amelia's Rustic than Tuesday. It was taco Tuesday and for me I got 4 carne asada street tacos with a side of rice and beans. These tacos were small, but they were so tasty. Delicious Mexican food! The chicken mole enchiladas are incredible; the mole is rich with a depth of flavor profiles. I'd eat anything if it was covered in this sauce! The other enchiladas are just as good! Really enjoy their street tacos which are authentic. Fresh made tortillas, carnitas, chopped onion and cilantro and lime. That's the way to do it! The Chile Rellano is wonderful, the batter light and crisp with ooey, gooey cheese inside the perfectly cooked chile. I usually get this as a side! When I worked in the area, I would order trays of their enchiladas whenever my team was in town for full day meetings. Everyone raved about the food! The admins would all come by hoping for leftovers, if there were any.
