Amazing steakhouse to celebrate special occasions. Arthur J is part of the SIMMS restaurant group which I love visiting for nice dinners. Arthur J is one of the fancier restaurants within the group. The ambiance is great and the inside has a really cool, sleek retro vibe. I've dined here during covid too where I was seated outside and they made the outdoor seating area cozy and nice as well. I recommend the medium rare Filet Minon and the Prime Dry Aged Tomahawk Steak. The steak here is incredible. It came out so moist and delicious. I've had the Steak Sampler twice. The first time I had it, it was amazing and the second time, the quality wasn't up to par with my first experience for all the cuts of steak. Some of the slices of steak were not as soft as usual that one day I had it. For sides, absolutely get the mashed potatoes. They are so buttery, soft, and heavenly!! You can also add mushrooms on top of steak for extra charge. Service is really wonderful here. The staff is sweet and welcoming and they really try to make dinner celebrations memorable. They give a complimentary birthday dessert. I've also been given a free appetizer on the house once and I can't recall exactly why but it was really sweet. Cocktails here are tasty. I've waited to post my review. This is not a steak house by any means. First of all it took 27 mins to get our first round of drinks - which came after our appetizers. That's wrong in every world of dining! The tuna was average and the salad was unforgettable- but they gave us a tea spoon to serve our macaroni. I was a guest - my daughters treated me for my birthday so of course I kept silent. This place is a joke and obviously living off an it's reputation. Please don't waste your or a loved one's money until they get their act together in the kitchen (food very average) service - Jamie our server was too chatty and needs to be professional and gets timing right with drinks and food. Came here for my friends' 50th Birthday. It was a worthy location to celebrate the occasion. Positives: - It's next to the beach - The street - It's classy inside - The staff is as friendly and professional as you'd expect for an expensive steakhouse - The food is really delicious - They were very accommodating and gave good recommendations on foods to try. The downside : - It's next to the beach. Good luck parking. - It's not cheap. It's not outrageously expensive, but it's definitely priced like a higher end steakhouse. - The street is really busy, but also on a Sunday night in the summer a lot of stuff closed surprisingly early. We still could walk around, and grab ice cream, but it was more deserted than i would have thought I didn't arrange things, but we had a reservation and I imagine this is the type of place you should have reservations for. If this was closer and parking slightly more convenient I think I'd come here more on the regular. As stands, I think this is one of my two favorite steakhouses in SoCAl. read more

Food steak was prime, just wish portion was more since you PT for your meat here! You must get the popovers!! Great for group celebration and just date. We enjoyed everything though. Service was great although there was a mishap with the drinks. We were gifted a bottle of champagne that was supposed to be served in the beginning but instead it didn't come out until right before we ordered our desserts. Not sure if this was an error at the front desk or the servers but since the arrangement was made a week prior and expensive menu items, one can expect a more organized system. The server was knowledgeable about the menu. She had a great energy and was friendly. The food was delicious. We had a wedge salad, fresh Parker house rolls, and had three steaks and three sides. The steaks were tender, cooked to our requested temp, well seasoned and accompanied by tasty sauce options. I went with the truffle butter that had flecks of black truffle. The mashed potatoes were smooth and I'd guess about 40-50% butter by weight. The grilled broccolini was delicious. My favorite though were the crispy Brussels sprouts. They surprised me with a baked Alaska for dessert which they set on fire with liquor. It maybe toasted the meringue a bit more than I would like but it was fantastic. It seems like whoever made the drink used a wrong ingredient because I have ordered that same cocktail before at The Arthur J and loved it. The waitress was fine with me replacing that cocktail with a new one. * We had our appetizer and by the time our main meal arrived, I still hadn't received my cocktail that was being replaced. The timing was very off. * The sides we ordered (mac and cheese & asparagus) were not worth ordering and just not good. Definitely needs improvement on taste! I thought this one through for a while, put a lot of thought, time and energy into reflecting upon our experience at "The Arthur J" and, well, I am going to be honest here and it's going to be very unpopular...but, the cold, hard truth is not always popular--that's life. Buckle up. This place is HORRIBLE. The food is terribly underwhelming and the fact that these guys and their family own several chains and chain restaurants, well, this place is like a chain--but, honestly, a lot worse. A LOT worse. The bartender, female on a Saturday night--darker hair, maybe in her 40s or so? Horrible. Asked for 2 Aperol Spritz--after 15-20 minutes--she poured everything in, layer by layer, NO MIXING. Nothing. We got the drinks--we were drinking straight club soda. HORRIBLE. Disaster. That's how it started....then, guess what? It actually got worse from there... Then, we sit down for dinner. Very, very nice and solid waiter. Well done, sir. Good on you--you're a bright light in a dark and stormy night. The "booths" look like something out a chain diner. Look closely. They look cheap. Cheap materials. Characterless and--stiff and standard. Must be right out of the family's playbook. The food: the food was one level above Friendly's and one level firmly below Outback Steakhouse--I have had better steaks at Outback and I am not kidding. The steak, the NY Strip, was worse quality and had less taste and character than the steaks I make at home. It tasted like the equivalent of a steak in a Marriott lobby restaurant but, less quality and less taste than that. Just bad. Plain bad. The wedge salad was flavorless and very underwhelming--nothing to it. Nada. Nothing. Not good. Kept eating hoping it got better and, well, it didn't. The wine pour? Here is where the rubber hit the proverbial road on this one....OH DEAR LORD don't ask me about the wine pour. I have dined all over America, all over the world, all over--everywhere in NYC, Chicago, LA and beyond--this was by far and away the SMALLEST and LIGHTEST pour I have ever had in a glass of wine--it was one single shot of wine. That's it. One shot of wine. And a full price "glass"--honestly, it was egregious and really off putting. For that reason alone, I will not be returning. Just plain disastrous by Arty J and his team. The food was bad--just not good. Not high end, not luxury, not quality, not well thought out, flavorless trash. Sorry. It was bad. And I've had better meals at Burger King and Mastro's. And a "glass of wine" that amounted to one single shot of wine? Egregious and disastrous for a business. If you're looking for customer retention, well, this ain't it. Add in the "Aperol Spritz" which was made by a statue and was not mixed at all + was just club soda on top of some orange stuff? Horrific. Fire the statue. A horrendous experience from beginning to end (excluding the professional waiter) and this place needs a wake up call. BAD. Wake up, Simms Brothers--you're losing the script. See you? The Arthur J is a high end steak house in Manhattan Beach. Choose your cut of beef from the menu and the level of cooking, from seared raw to well done. Choose your sauce or butter for your meat. Then choose topping and or sides, extra. Sides are not included with your entree. I found the sides/ salads to be big enough to share for 2 to 3 people. The wine list is extensive. Our waiter was extremely helpful in explaining and helping us choose a bottle of wine with our meal. Everything here is high end and pricey, but worth it. The quality is outstanding. Very softly lit interior with candles on the tables. The rest rooms have pictures of iconic celebrities from the 60's and 70's. The interior design is contemporary. If you are a connoisseur of good meat and fine dining this is the place for you. read more

After 2 years, we made another visit to Arthur J. Since our last visit, I have raved to my family, friends, and co-workers, recommending they give Arthur J a try since our last visit was great - the food, the service. My co-workers even came here off of my recommendation a couple of months ago, but let me know they only really enjoyed the cocktails. I was curious if it was just an off night since we had such a great experience before, but this time the service was still great, but the food lacked depth and flavor. I am not sure if the chef changed since our last visit, but it was not the same quality like before. // DRINKS // Like Father, Like Son: Strong, but well balanced with a hint of sweetness. It was strong and flavorful. I would highly recommend this cocktail! 4.5/5 // FOOD // Caesar Salad: White anchovies, garlic rosemary croutons. This would have been a pretty underwhelming Caesar salad if it weren't for the salty anchovies. The dressing was a lighter and had a decent amount of lemon to it. 2.5/5 Blue Cheese Wedge: Danish bluye cheese, Nueske's double smoked bacon, crumbled organic egg, red onion, cherry tomato. I would absolutely not order this again. The wedge might have been wet still since the dressing was pretty watered down. 0/5 Crispy Brussels Sprouts: Manchego, chili sauce, pepitas, sesame seeds. Even though the ingredients mixed in with the Brussels sprouts this time were different we absolutely loved it last time so we wanted to order it again. It wasn't as crispy and the flavor was lacking this time. 2/5 Mac & Cheese: Vermont sharp cheddar. It was creamy, but it had to flavor to it which was disappointing. 1/5 Rib Eye Steak: The steak was still tender this time, but the flavor was not as luxurious and delicious as last time. It was still seasoned well, but just lacking something. 3.5/5 Chocolate Hazelnut Crunch Cake: Airy chocolate cake sandwiching a layer of chocolate mousse, topped with dollops of chocolate and hazelnuts. It was a pretty good dessert and paired well with a nice hot cup of coffee. 4/5 Overall, this visit to Arthur J was quite disappointing. Loved the food - absolutely delicious! We (party of 4) ordered the tomahawk, scallops and popovers. Our waiter was too kind and was a little worried we didn't have enough food, so brought us fries on the house. :) All of the food was all great. The popovers did taste a little burnt (?) not sure if that's the intention. The scallops were flavorful and lentils added a different texture! The tomahawk was good but didn't actually stand out in comparison with the appetizers (there was quite a bit of fat on some of the pieces). The staff were attentive and offered drink recommendations throughout the meal! The restaurant was nice inside and the atmosphere was a bit louder than I expected, but comfortable enough to hold conversations in. We did have a bit of a wait even with a late reservation. Since it was a bit wet out, we tried to wait indoors near the bar (it's pretty crowded, so it's alright but not the easiest place to wait). I would definitely return! Bartenders Christine & Chris were warm and welcoming. They were so attentive, always made sure we had everything we needed and our drinks were always full. Drinks: I can't remember the names of any but they were all great. One was a mezcal drink and a margarita of some sort. Everything tasted fresh and well balanced. Food: Everything was outstanding. Oysters were fresh, bone marrow is a must. (We also took a bourbon shot off the bone marrow, and it was great. Ask the bartenders about it.) For main entree, we shared the prime rib, brussel sprouts, and broccolini. Prime rib was so tender and cooked perfectly, brussel sprouts had perfect char and balance, and the broccolini was simple and delicious. It was my second time to Arthur J and I went not just because they have amazing steak, but their ice cream sundae is so crave able. Some people hear ice cream sundae and may think "how special can an ice cream sundae be?" I am telling you, this is going to be the best ice cream sundae of your life. You get coldness from the ice cream, warmness from the chocolate fudge, savoriness from the peanut, extra punch from the amaretto cherries, fluffiness from the whip cream, subtle bitter notes from the banana brûlée, and this extra crunch thing that taste light like a puff rice, but looks like a granola. Whatever it is, it is amazing and I go chasing after it in every bite. Each time I get a bite of the crunchy rice puff or whatever it is, I feel like I've scored. The banana by the way is the perfect ripeness. All these combined is a palate orgasm. Sad to think that no ice cream sundae will ever be as good as this one, but the good news is Arthur J still has it on the menu so I'm going to enjoy it as much as possible. We were there with a party of eight celebrating my sister's 50th birthday and the server named Jason was funny, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He walked us through the specials which for the night was a 20 oz cowboy steak with my sister luckily got to experience and take some home for two meals later. Because we're celebrating a big birthday the general manager Aaron and Jason provided us complimentary appetizers since it was our first experience throughout the night Jason we get attentive, continue to provide us with recommendations from wine, sides and appetizers are main dishes. The scallops were cooked well. I got the filet and my dad got some different cut(I forgot what it was). I asked my filet medium rare and it came out medium so I was kinda bummed about that. My dad's steak was cooked perfectly. Enjoyed the truffle butter sauce and mushroom side dish. I also really liked my apple martini drink. Service was a bit slow. This used to be my favorite steak house of all time, incredible service and amazing food. But unfortunately it's gone down hill. I went last Friday and the service was awful. Sat down and it took 15 minutes to get water and our server didn't even stop by our table for 30 minutes. Once we ordered our plates were not cleared and plates were stacked on top of each other instead of someone bussing them. This is high end restaurant with low level service unfortunately. We would have stayed longer and ordered another round of drinks and desert but service was so slow we just decided to cut dinner short. Food is still amazing but they need to step up the service!!!
