I took my car into Brake Masters in Elk Grove after I still had a Check Engine light on my car after they did 90K service. They ran the code check to tell me that the issue was with my transmission, and they couldn't fix it. They told me to go to a place they recommended, but when they couldn't help me until Monday (or I had to leave my car for the weekend), I called these guys and they said they'd be able to help us today. We took the car into them, and I showed them the paperwork. About an hour and a half later, they called me and said that the issue was not necessarily something with the transmission itself, it was something with the computer that controls the transmission, and it would be something only the dealership could fix. I went to pick up the car, and they told me exactly what to tell them, and they didn't even charge a diagnostic fee or anything. They were super nice and great to work with. If it turns out to be more than the computer, I will certainly take it back to them to fix it because I want them to have my business. read more

Had my water pump installed here a few years ago. Driving home one stormy night, the truck overheated. Took it to a different shop and was told it was the water pump. I didn't believe them, so I took it back to John. He confirmed and although it was out of warranty, he was able to get me a discount on the replacement. Took my 2000 Dodge Durango in today for a transmission fluid exchange. A few other places insisted it needed a flush (which is more money and NOT recommended for a car with 90k+ miles!). I've had two repairs done at the new EGT (motor mounts and failed sensor), probably 4 at BM (can't recall details - very long ago). Ted is probably one of the best and nicest mechanics in the area. You can always get a sense about good shops, and shops that are just there to sell you a bill of goods (hence the reason I do most of my vehicle maintenance/repair myself, except for powertrain). EGT is definitely the former - excellent service, inform you of their findings in a timely fashion, and don't try any hard-sell tactics. I had a leak in the Trans or Transfer Case from some hard 4x driving over the weekend. Turns out the Trans likely just overheated and oil vented. EGT indicated no real issues found, but fluids were a little dark and could be changed. I had them service both the Trans and Transfer Case, since they already had my Tahoe. Reasonable price, and saved me the hassle of doing it myself (since Chevy refuses to put drain plugs in the Trans pan, which makes for a mess). read more

I have had numerous cars over the past 20 years and have taken my cars to them for maintnance. They have done tranny rebuilds to fixing catalytic converts...very expensive jobs, but 50% (or more) less than the dealer. Now that I live in Rancho Cordova, I still bring my car to them. Don't use these guys. They rebuilt my tranny last year. When I got my car back, the gear shift was very loose. When I asked them about that, they said my cable was loose and I needed a new one and tried to squeeze me for another $150. The shifter was fine when I brought the car in. After going round and round, the manager brought the mechanic out, who check the shifter, and determined they had installed a faulty part. They tore down the tranny again and fixed the problem. A year later the tranny started to leak oil. Brought the car back to them. They wanted $139 to "service" the tranny. I just wanted the leak fixed, which they did not do. Stay away from these guys. read more

I had taken my 66 Mustang to a couple of other mechanics in an effort to fix the speedometer and odometer, both times I paid to have these items repaired only to have them break again within a 100 miles or so. In addition, I was also having a problem starting the car and I had explained this in detail to several mechanics who supposedly fixed the problem. I will start off by saying the guy who I dealt with (I think owner) was an absolute jerk!!! No customer service at all. Normally when you deal with nothing but bad news like myself the shop is a little understanding. Not these guys. It went from your transmission needs to be rebuilt to your entire transmission needs to be replaced. They had my Camry for almost a month and I think were over priced, $4400 is what I paid. Does the car run good? Yes the new transmission is fine however the guy changed the story on me 4-5 times and gave me nothing but bad news. Not sure I trusted the whole process, nor would I trust sending my friends to this establishment. read more
