This auto repair business was recommended to me by a friend. I was not real happy with the repair shop I had been using, and when a price was quoted for a particular repair job, it seemed too high. I called A-Auto and talked to Lam and he quoted me a price over the phone that seemed fair and lower than this previous quote. I decided to have his shop do the repair and was very happy with the result. Lam found another potential problem, and stated that it should eventually be corrected, but there was no pressure to have it done. This problem occurred the next day, so we scheduled to have that work done, and it was satisfactorily completed also. My wife and I have been very happy with the way we have been treated, and we just feel that we can trust Lam and Ron, his associate, to diagnose and recommend a repair, and at a fair price. I would like to thank them for going above and beyond, also, when I had our other car in there after I drove my wife to pick up this repaired vehicle. The rear turn signal was burned out, and Ron confirmed the prognosis, and installed a new bulb. He did not charge me, and that impressed me, to say the least. Thanks! Great service! This place was recommend to us from a family member that moved 2 hours out of Sacramento. They still drive their cars to A Auto for oil changes and repairs. Now we take our cars to Le. I was trying to sell my 2003 Mazda 6 when all of sudden I had an oil leak. I new my car was in good shape but this leak could have costed me a lot of money. I took my car to Le and he found that my oil pan screw was stripped. I had been getting my oil changes from Walmart and they over tighten my screw. A Auto fixed the problem and I sold my car. It was oh so refreshing to find an honest mechanic. I am a grad student paying my way thru school so I really wasn't looking forward to getting ripped off, but who is right? Some how, my engine fan clutch went out (yeah, I know--what the heck is that?!) and my car sounded like a freaking jet airplane was taking off everytime I accelerated, which was annoying. Plus, my gas milage was horrendous! I am from New Mexico and my dad back home works for the city and he is best friends with one of the head mechanics that fixes all the city trucks, cars, vans and any other vehicle, not to mention ours if we need it while we are in town. So I called him up told him what was going on, he told me within 30 seconds what it was. He told me the part would cost around $150 for my car and labor well, it depends on the assholes that try to screw me over because I am a woman. But, he told me to shop around before I jump in and get it fixed, which I did. I looked online for some honest mechanics and asked some locals that I knew real well and I went to a couple of places and some said it was gonna be a $150 diagnostic fee and blah-blah-bullshit. One day when I was driving home from Sac State, I saw that this A Auto had reopened (I use to go to there for cheap and fast oil changes it was previously owed by someone else I think)! I pulled in the parking lot asked if he would just come listen to it and tell me what he thought it was (because that is all my dad's friend said that any competent mechanic would need to do...) and he agreed, unlike the others that wanted to make me pay a $150 diagnostic fee. He told me to turn it on, turn off the A/C and rev the engine a couple of times. He closed the hood and told me to turn off the car. He said " you have a bad engine fan clutch which means your engine fan is constantly running and it is probably eating up your gas. Right?" I was excited, we were on the same page...now I was just waiting for him to take me inside and blow mind with some whacked out price. He looked up the part on the internet and turned the screen so that I could see everything he was looking at. He said the part is $149.40 and it says it is about and hour job, which he said would total around $250 not including tax and all that. I told him I would come back in two days to get it fixed. I actually called the next day because I got off work early and it was 1 1/2 hours till they closed and he said he didn't have the part in stock, but he could get it tomorrow. I think he heard how bummed I was on the phone and he said, "let me see if I can track down a part and I will call you right back." He tracked one down said it was on its way and for me to come right over. The part ended up being $132.45 at cost (I saw it on the invoice from the car part delivery service invoice) so, he gave it to me for 132.45 when he could have easily gave it to me for the price he quoted me because it was only a couple of dollars. Then, my car was done so quickly probably because they all wanted to get out of there and go home so it was done a little quicker than an hour. I was out the door $240 with tax and everything. He was friendly, tracked down my part to get me in same day right before he closed and I got it for a cheaper price than he quoted me and a cheaper quoted price than the $400 jobs and the stupid $150 "diagnostic fee" I was being quoted around town. I hope that this place stays open longer than the previous owners have been able to keep their shops open at this location, because I intend to take my car there as long as I live in Sac. I am done with the search for an honest mechanic, I've found him! Obviously, I highly recommend this place!!!!! read more

Integrity!!! You'll want to read this!!! My daughter is a Sac State student, but I live in the Bay Area. Her car broke down, so I had to find a mechanic in Sacramento while I live far away. Trying to deal with this long distance made me feel vulnerable to being taken advantage of, but I read reviews and took a chance on A Auto Service. I made a great decision! After talking with Tom, I was feeling like I found an honest company, but I'm always a bit skeptical. I decided to put the situation in his hands. He arranged to have the car towed to their facility, and they evaluated the problem. Tom took this task off my hands...so far, so good! Although the car was reparable, they told me that it really wasn't worth fixing given the severity of the problem and age of the car. Since I live in the bay area, I asked if I could leave it in their yard for a few days until I could figure out what to do; they were happy to do so. They allowed me to store it there free of charge, and they let me meet potential buyers there a few days later. I apologized profusely for the inconvenience, but they never made me feel like I was taking advantage of them; they made me feel like we were in this together! That was so valuable to me! They treated me like a valued customer! They even offered me bottled water, and I feel like we became friends! Tom and Lee, the owner, had no ulterior motives for treating me so well. They knew I don't live in the area and am not likely to bring more business their way. They could have overcharged me for the tow and for they evaluation, but they didn't. They could have tried to talk me into futile and expensive repairs, but they didn't! They could have charged me for the weeks storage at their shop, but they didn't! And after subtracting the independent tow company fee, they charged me less than a hundred dollars for the evaluation! They even allowed the guy who bought the car from me to leave it there over the weekend until he could arrange transfer; again, at no charge! Who does that?!!! The way they treated me tells me this company, these men, have integrity! It tells me they care, not about the bottom line dollar, but about the customer, no...about the person! They treated me, someone who likely doesn't represent future business, like their best customer! Just think how they'll treat you! You can trust these guys!!! My only regret is that I don't live in the area so I could bring all my business to them! read more

The owner here is absolutely awesome. He has done some recent work on my car. He seems very honest, and a hard worker. He has gone out of his way to provide me with good service. No double talk and will not try and cheat you. He has done my brakes and some other work on my car and I appreciated his willingness to work with my schedule (he stayed later than closing time to get my car done the same day even though they were closed), He has professional interactions and is also fair on prices. We use it them for oil changes, too, however there are cheaper alternatives (like Jiffy Lube). he can usually work us in on the same day or next day at the latest. He even opened on a Saturday for us when my car's accelerator stuck wide open. As folks hang onto their cars in this economic climate, it's important to fins a reliable competent mechanic. Things have changed in 2012. I have done business with A Auto for over 10 years; I considered myself a true and loyal customer. However, after moving to his new location; things changed. I was a loyal customer; so much so, that prior to purchasing a used van, I took it to A Auto for their opinion/approval. I was told yes; make the purchase and I did. I did this with the understanding that repairs would be necessary. I have spent over 2 thousand dollars making the van drivable and I understood those costs. However, over time (2-4 months) phone calls were not returned, emails never answered, letters of correspondence not acknowledged and meetings in person were burdensome. I felt I was a bother. I truly try to be extremely considerate; always willing to work things through because car maintenance for a single head of household woman is important. The last unreturned phone call was enough: my air conditioner still does not work, the gasket/seal still leaks and a great working relationship built upon trust has been destroyed. I am out several thousand of dollars and hesitate in posting due to retribution for my truthfulness; however, I will take the chance. Caveat Emptor =let the buyer beware. read more
