So I just moved down here from the Bay Area about a year ago. I'd been to a ton of different barbers who just didn't understand how to cut my hair and make it look good. Literally when I was about to give up and start cutting it myself with a pair of clippers my wife calls the Ave barber shop. She literally said, "my husband is insanely picky, who is the best barber at the shop with the most highest attention to detail and the most experience & skill." I kid you not. Actual words. They referred her to Jerry, who was literally going to be my last barber. And he certainly was. Meticulous attention to detail. Insane skill. And as a bonus, he is great to talk to. Wonderful with my son too. I couldn't ask for a better barber. I hope to not need another barber for the next 40 years or so. Jerry please don't go anywhere. So yelp also wants me to comment on the vibe of the shop. I'd say it's a proper barber shop with the pole, straight razor shaves, hot towels, cold beer... literally anything you could ask for. IF YOU ARE BLACK DO NOT COME HERE. You removed my review about 3 years ago. I just wanted to remind everyone because I have time today. I asked for a simple line up and even asked the barber over the phone if they are comfortable with styling a black persons hair. They said yes, upon arrival they must of thought I was joking that I was black and told me they couldn't do a line up..... It's a shame I have to travel from PV to Inglewood to get a haircut, I know Jim Crow Law was abolished in 1964. But it would help if you just have "whites only" sign on the front to save the rare occurrence of a mixed or black person walking into your establishment. read more

A couple years ago I started my journey to see if I can grow out my hair again. I've been shaving my head for 15+ years and wanted to see if, with the help of minoxidil, I can make it looking like how it was in my early 20's. Lol. So it's been awhile since I've been to a barber. And it was giving me anxiety looking through all the yelp pages and reviews trying to pick the perfect spot. So I asked my friend from work where he goes, and he recommended Corey from the Ave Barbershop. I was able to book my appointment through the Booksy app. it was really convenient! Corey was great. Never late to any of the appointments I booked. Always offered a beer while I was getting my haircut. Always had me looking fresh. Every time I had a haircut appointment the next day I would get complimented on how clean it looked. Had me looking spiffy for my graduation. And never a dull moment, always had the conversation flowing. And everyone there is awesome. Super friendly. It's also a very clean spot. Price: $35 for a clean up on the sides and $45 for everything. Worth it! Parking: Sometimes I was able to find parking in front of the shop, sometimes I had to drive around a bit to find a parking spot. But I have decided to stop trying to grow out my hair and shave it again. It was just too much work and the results weren't happening. So thank you, Corey and the Ave Barbershop crew! Will I be back? Came here for a haircut. Was very suspicious of the timing of the booking available at 830pm but thought I would give it a try since it's down the street. TERRIBLE SERVICE. As a new customer I figured I would be acknowledged. Instead I was told it would be "take a minute". I was greeted by one barber's "Ahhh... fine, I'll take him" as if I'd just asked for an extra chore. They joked about me tipping them 50 bucks which made me feel bad for even getting the haircut because it was end of day (4 PM). The haircut sucked - I asked him to cut a half inch to an inch off and he shaved the sides of my head, probably closer to 2.5 inches. They didn't even fade the right side of my head correctly. I have been going here for years. Not only did they make me feel bad for getting a haircut, he did a horrible job cutting my hair not following directions, and on top of that the haircut was $52 with tip. I have been coming to the Avenue barber shop every week for about 6 years now, well since 2018, I Moved from the UK to Redondo Beach I needed a lifetime barber!!! lol....and I found exactly that!, every single cut by the barber's I have ever had absolutely amazing. I have Autumn cut my hair and she's been cutting my hair for probably 2 years now might be longer, since Ever left, when Autumn is away on vacation I'm already slotted in for my usual Friday cut with Mike! He's another barber that cuts my hair fantastically. They both know my head well!!! I always know and always feel looked after, all the barbers and stylists are amazing and I know I will always get the best cut. Who ever cuts my hair. But my barber Autumn always accommodates me and even moves my times around if I have a vacation or something. I never have had that with any other barbers. Anywhere!!! These guys and girls are very special and I always feel like I'm not just a customer I'm their friend, (well Iam whether they like it or not!! Ha ha! (Just ask Rob and Shannon!! The owners Ha ha!!) I always go to Shannon (her and her husband are the owners) and she's fricken awesome. At times, I'll go in and want to switch something up and she'll give me recommendations and whatever she suggests, it always turns out really good. I blindly trust whatever she suggests because she knows what she's doing and has an eye for what looks good on different people. Even if you know exactly what you want, she's got you covered and you can rest assured you'll get what you want. Not to mention, she's super funny and you never really sit in awkward silence... unless that's your thing, then you do you. I've been coming to The Ave when I found out Monica was moving out to this location from Floyd's and I do not regret it one bit! It's been about 5 years so, late 2019 is when I first started showing up to the shop. The atmosphere, quality in service, and overall hospitality is like no other. I've gotten my way around a little bit to meeting the rest of the crew, though I am a simple and quiet guest, it feels like another home to me. Let me start with saying I'm not a big review guy, but I feel like this experience warrants it. I just moved to the area and needed a cut and a beard trim. I called the shop and they gave me Jerry parking aside. The shop is super down to earth and easy to find Jerry was very welcoming sat me down and had a full consultation with me about what I wanted to do with my hair how I styled it and what the expectations would be. He was easy to talk to, and I never got the feeling I wasn't cool enough to be there in the barbershop which I've had at other barbershops when it came to the beard. He gave me the full service, hot towels, face massager, and a straight edge on the neck and the cheeks. One side was a little off . I pointed it out. He agreed and he fixed it. I've done that with other barbers before, and they tried to make me believe it wasn't crooked. Jerry apologize and straightened it out to my liking all in all great experience. Long overdue, but this shop has some of the coolest barbers anywhere. I've been going here for the last 3 years since moving to the South Bay, and going back up to Pasadena for a haircut every few weeks would've been a trek. I landed on The Ave after going to several barbershops in the area, and this would become my last stop. Shannon is my barber and I trust her completely to help style up my hair. She is great at giving suggestions if you're ever thinking about changing up your hairstyle and is simply a pro with the razor and scissors. Not a great place for small kids. We have been bringing our kids here and most of the stylists have been OK. Some are better than others with children and there have been times when the language wasn't appropriate with kids present. Had a not great experience with a stylist tonight we have seen many times before who was massively behind schedule and didn't acknowledge that or our appointment time. It would have been helpful if she had let us know she was running behind or said there would be a very long wait when we walked in the door. read more
