Finding a good barber is hard. Finding a good barber who can also cut your kid's hair is apparently some kind of minor miracle. I went through the whole ecosystem. The kid specific haircut places where you get an airplane chair, cartoons, bubbles, seventeen distractions and somehow still leave wondering what happened to the fade. Then you try regular barbershops and sometimes the music is blasting, the whole place feels like you're interrupting a music video and bringing a little kid in feels like you've made a terrible parenting decision. Then there was the final straw, realizing the place we had been going wasn't keeping its clippers and equipment as clean as I wanted. I was done. And then I found Top Shelf. Oscar cuts both my son's hair and mine now and at this point I just hope the man plans on working until we're both old because I have absolutely no interest in beginning this search again. He's that good. I'm annoyingly particular about my hair. I can show Oscar a photograph, explain some half formed idea about what I want and he gets it. The beard work is meticulous. The lines are clean. And what he does with a fade almost feels wrong to call a fade. It's more like a seamless blend where you can't really figure out where one length ends and the next begins. Even better, it grows out well, which is something you don't appreciate until you've had enough haircuts that look fantastic for four days and ridiculous by week two. But the thing that really sold me was watching him cut my son. Same patience. Same attention to detail. Same standards. He doesn't treat a kid's haircut like the junior version of the real thing. My son gets an actual haircut, properly blended and finished, while still being in an environment where he can be comfortable. That combination is unbelievably difficult to find. The shop itself hits the balance too. Comfortable without trying too hard. Friendly without being performative. There's parking in the back. Everyone I've encountered has been welcoming and while I can only personally vouch for Oscar's work, I've watched the other barbers cutting while I'm there and there's clearly a standard across the shop. And everything is clean. I probably notice that more than most people after my previous experience, but I appreciate the hell out of it. I don't know what took me so long to write this review. We've been coming here long enough that Top Shelf isn't really a place we're trying anymore. It's our barber. Oscar, please don't retire. read more

I've been going to Michelle for about 2 years, now. From the beginning, she was always friendly and knowledgeable. I was referred to her by another Yelper and I loved how full her brows were. Michelle immediately made an appointment for me when I contacted her. She also has an online appointment system, that's super convenient. My brows are always consistently full and she taught me some her secrets with keeping them full in between appointments. She also showed me which tools to get, which I immediately went out and bought. She always asks if you have any allergies or are taking any medications that make your skin sensitive, like Accutane or Retin-A. I like that she asks that, because things change between appointments and it's easy to forget to tell her. I've been to places where the wax is rough, but hers is like silk. She's quick and efficient and I leave there not wanting to wash my face and mess up my brows for days! If your brows are microbladed, she can still take care of them. I had mine microbladed this year and she does a great job of cleaning them up and keeping my look fresh. Michelle shares a space with her husband Oscar. He's a barber and totally gives the old school vibes with that amazing chair he uses for clients. So you could totally bring your guy for an appointment at the same time. Michelle has a private room divided by a cool barn door. Their shop is located inside of Top Shelf Studio and it's completely updated on the inside. I'm guessing it used to be a house...very cute. I've had lash lifts in the past but i think i found my go to - finally! i move around a lot so the fact that michelle did a great job, and the studio is sooo close to my home is a game-changer. michelle did an amazing job with my lashes - on time, very meticulous, and knows how to do lifts correctly imo. I can not stress enough how GREAT Michelle is. I never question the way she does my brows she always leaves them perfect and if I ever want my brows a slight thinner,arched, thicker, etc. she never hesitates to execute exactly what I ask for, nor does she ever get offended. This was my first time visiting Top Shelf Beauty. Michelle studio was very clean, the staff in the Barber Room was very welcoming. I arrived to my appointment on time and Michelle greeted me with such positive energy . No waiting, no people looking while I was getting my service which made me feel at ease. I was exhausted when I came in so I was able to get a quick nap in on her comfortable bed which was very much needed lol.
