Last week, I ordered the wings naked with sauce on the side and they were great! I went back today and ordered the wings the same way; naked with sauce on the side. They came with sauce on the side, but they went psycho on the rub this time. The saltiest thing I ever tasted I my entire life. I could only tolerate one leg. The bartender said they may have mis-read the order, or they put the rub on them before they went in the smoker. I said I can't eat them. Way too salty. They still charged me for half. He said it was because I ate one of them. Oh, so if I didn't eat any, I would have been charged zero? Good to know they have a 50% satisfaction guarantee. Never going back there again. My girlfriend and I had a little range time together on a Sunday, and when heading back to Sacramento we decided to stop into The Backyard. For a late lunch/early dinner. We arrived a little after 4 and waited a few minutes at the door and then were seated at a table in the main area. After getting our menus we looked over everything and started with drinks, and then eventually ordered our main meals and ordered the following: Drinks: Fall Off the Porch Peach Tea Spicy Pina Paloma Meals: BBQ Duo Chicken Tenders Dessert: (Weekly special) Banana Cream Pie I ordered the Fall Off the Porch Peach Tea which was good, my girlfriend ordered the Spicy Paloma which she said wasn't bad, but she noted it wasn't that spicy. When I took a sip I didn't notice it at all. Our dishes were really good, I had the BBQ Duo Andy girl had tje chicken tenders. I paired the tri tip and pulled pork. The beans were really good too and the waffle cut fries were fresh, hot and crisp. The dessert we were disappointed with. It was ok but it didn't taste like it was made from scratch. And tasted more like imitation banana, or banana flavoring and not from real bananas. So we could've gone without it. We've been going to the backyard for the last two years and were never really impressed with the quality of the food or with the level of service but they have really stepped their game up recently. I have been to this restaurant three times now. Every time I've had horrible service. They have ran out of food each time I have gone. How do you run out of bacon and tri-tip. Another time I ordered three take home meals. They completely forgot one of my entrees. Then they said they would comp an entree for their mistake. I go back 2 days later and the same bartender acted like he knew nothing about. This last time we went with three of our friends. It took the waiter 10 mins to come take our drink and appetizers. We ordered food even thought they were out of some of their barbecue food. And then they wouldn't even substitute for the missing food. For god sakes there is a grocery store right across the street. Our friend's dinners came out and still no appetizers. 30 mins later they brought out our three dinners and the appetizers. Now mind you we had to wait 30 mins for the table, 30 minutes for the waiter to take our order, and then 30 more mins to get our food, after our friend had finished eating. We weren't even hungry anymore. Avoid this restaurant, there are better barbecue places out there. read more

A suggestion from friends landed us at The Backyard after a day of range time. It was starting to get warm so we asked to be seated inside. The Backyard has great accommodations for larger groups. It ambiance is pretty laid back and I can see locals choosing this as their designated watering hole. Our server was very pleasant as she took our orders. I ordered their Brisket plate with onion rings and salad. Our food came promptly which was convenient. I took a bite off their onion rings and is was a little too hard, like overcooked hard rings. I was taken a bit because its hard to make onion rings bad. I went ahead to their brisket. Its was tender, but quite dry imho. Also, all portions I had was super lean without any hint of fat. I asked for a more spicier BBQ sauce and they only have what was served. They suggested Siracha tough but its not the same so I declined. We stopped by The Backyard for lunch after going off-roading on LaTrobe and Michigan Bar. The places is pretty spacious where you have an area for the bar and some tables to sit, then you have a dining area where you can sit and dine, and then there is the outdoor dining area with a few tables and a human size connect 4 game. My kids enjoyed the connect 4. Ordered the tri-tip sandwich with fries and it was pretty good. The trip tip but chopped into pieces so my husband thought I had ordered pull pork lol. So don't expect the tri-tip to be in strips. Hubs ordered a hamburger but I forgot which one. Either it was super delicious or he was hungry because I think I only saw the burger for maybe 5 minutes. The kids shared an order of chicken quesadilla and tater tots. My kids didn't care of the quesadilla but maybe they just were not that hungry. The did eat the tater tots and our friend. My friend's son ended up ordering a baby back rib and the portion size was good.
