We had a wonderful experience at Slough House Kitchen! Our waitress, Alisa, was fantastic and went above and beyond to accommodate my gluten and dairy allergy. She worked with the kitchen to ensure my scallop risotto was prepared using oil instead of dairy, and I felt completely confident that my dietary needs were taken seriously. Even though it was fairly busy for a Thursday night, the service was attentive and friendly. We started with the fries, meatball soup (I didn't eat because it had dairy), and the arugula and peach salad, all of which were delicious. For our entrees, we both ordered the scallop risotto. My husband had the regular version with all the usual ingredients, while mine was modified for my allergies. He even tried my risotto and commented that there was very little difference between the two, they tasted just as good as each other! That really speaks to the skill of the chef. It's not always easy to find restaurants that can accommodate allergies without sacrificing flavor, but Slough House Kitchen absolutely delivered. My only suggestion would be to consider adding a few more gluten- and dairy-free entrée options, as well as a dessert choice for guests with food allergies. Even something as simple as a sorbet would be a welcome addition. Excellent food, outstanding service from Alisa, and a kitchen that clearly knows how to handle food allergies. I stumbled upon this restaurant by using the Yelp App on my way back from Sacramento to Ione. My girlfriend said she had driven by here many times but had never stopped. It is a classic old building, with loads of charm. We were seated in the bar area looking out on the outdoor patio. We started with the house-made smoked salmon. I have an affinity for smoked salmon, this was by far the best smoked salmon I have ever had. But wait, it got even better as it was served with house-made bread that was toasted to perfection along with a fabulous dill sauce. It was wonderful. We then shared an arugula salad with beets and many other items. It had the most amazing dressing. The freshness of the ingredients made this simple salad fabulous. For our entree we shared the catch of the day, a barramundi served with a house-made lemon caper sauce. We humbly requested to replace our sides with some roasted vegetables. The young woman who was our server (we later found out she was an owner) said she could accommodate us. The fish was amazing. The roasted vegetables that were added as an accommodation was the highlight of the meal. They were cooked to perfection, with a smoked flavor that made it taste like o was eating vegetables for the first time. I eat out often, but this is instantly one of my favorite restaurants. I can't wait to eat there again. We already have plans to eat there this Saturday as we celebrate my girlfriend's son's 12th birthday. I'm going to keep this short and simple because we didn't even stay for the food. The sodas on the menu are $6 a piece. No free refills. Absurd. A bread basket with a few pieces of bread and butter was $10. Ridiculous. I'm happy to pay for good food, but I am sick to death of being nickled and dimed to death. And, of course, we would have been expected to pay a 20% tip on top of the meal. Restaurants are just becoming a joke of an experience. We just left there at 7pm on Friday evening and there were hardly any cars in the parking lot. Sloughhouse is such a gem. Set inside a beautifully preserved old house from the mid-1800s, the space feels cozy, romantic, and full of character--perfect for a date night. We started with oysters, which were fresh and delicious. Also had the best sourdough bread! For dinner my husband had the beef stroganoff and the I had carbonara, and both were rich, comforting, and really well done. We paired everything with a bottle of Barbera that mixed beautifully with the meal. The ambiance was just right, low lighting and warm. Once inside we were greated and sat a table for two in the main area. We looked for the menu for a bit, and while doing so my girlfriend sampled the wines to pair with her dinner. Once we were ready we ordered the following: Wine: Pinot Grigio, Maggio Appetizer: Beef Tataki Main Courses: Tagliatelle alla Salsicia NY Sirloin Dessert: Coffee Crème Bûrlée All of the food was amazing, and I was pleasantly surprised about the Coffee Crème Bûrlée. I really wanted to love this restaurant. Went on Mother's Day. I have to say for $75 per person it was really not worth it! There was no thought given to the buffet No beef,no seafood. Cold pizza, watery eggs, no muffins for the eggs Benedict, pasta was? Then all of a sudden there was mash potatoes and beans? Why? Enjoyed brunch at the SloughHouse Kitchen. We sat by a welcoming window as it was a bit cold for the outdoor patio. The wait staff were friendly and accommodating and our order was perfectly served. The fruit bowl was large and full of a variety of fresh fruit. The poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, potatoes and garden salad were perfect. Only thing not perfect about the meal was the nice thick, tasty homemade bread had a crust that was quite tough. I'm sure the kitchen can fix that. Ok...so the reviews seemed pretty good so our group of 11 made reservations for a celebration dinner. The servers were nice, but quite slow at getting us seated, getting orders, etc. We asked for water multiple times, but they never brought any. One person in our group just got up and found a water pitcher and brought it to the table. We waited a little over an hour to get our food after placing our order. We weren't checked on much at all during the hour. We had to get up to find our server about an hour in to make sure our order was even placed. They said it was and they were busy with other large tables. The food was pretty good, but unfortunately the experience was a very disappointing and everyone was so hungry we didn't spend much time enjoying our food. Our plates were also being cleared before some people had even finished. At one point we asked if we could get some bread since our food had taken over an hour. They brought two loafs, but charged us $10 for each. The biggest issue we had was they charged an 18% "Large Group fee", which amounted to about $9/person. The receipt said "Large Group fee (Not a gratuity)". So they charged 18% fee, but also expected a tip on top of that. That was not told to us when we made the phone reservation. Definitely would not recommend for groups and our experience will make it easy to never wanna return. read more

We arrived just before opening on a Saturday for our first visit. The huge building that houses the restaurant has seemingly been lovingly refurbished and is quite charming. Nice dining room area, bar and "vinoteca" and a lovely and expansive outside patio. Service was friendly yet a bit sluggish, but not really a biggie since we were in no hurry. They were kind enough to allow us to taste the wines we ordered: sparkling for me was too sweet for my liking. They didn't have the Sangiovese the hubby desired and he didn't love the option presented, so we both pivoted to a nice Chardonnay that suited our taste just fine. We shared some Hog Island oysters on the half shell, which were delicious, as expected, but shockingly not cold. At all. Like almost warm. A little concerning. So far so good, as I write this about 6 hours post-consumption ~ hoping for the best since I'm leaving on a jet plane tomorrow! The oysters were served with a trio of sauces: a mignonette, sweet and smoky soy with sesame seeds, and a Tabasco style hot sauce plus two wedges of lemon. Two of the six succulent bivalves were topped directly with a pineapple horseradish. Nice variety. We each went with one of their open-face panini on homemade bread: he got the chicken Parmesan and I opted for the prosciutto with arugula. Very delicious and generous portions. To preface: the reason they didn't get five stars from us was purely because of service. The food was absolutely delicious. We saw on the menu online that they give free mimosas on Saturdays and Sundays with brunch - which we were not offered. We ordered two glasses of rose (which were the smallest pours we have received). In fact, we ordered two more glasses and the server brought our bottle out and still poured small glasses (there was still wine left in the bottle). Four total glasses ordered should equal one bottle of wine... The food was incredible. We ordered the half roasted chicken and the steak & cheese omelette. The food was so good that we would definitely come back and try again given our experience. The hardest part of our experience was when we receive our check. Both dishes were $10+ more than listed on the menu, and our wine was more expensive as well. We kindly let our server know and he was able to fix his error. As for the wine, they were wood out of the wine we ordered and poured us a more expensive one without informing us of the price difference. All in all, great experience sitting on the deck on a beautiful morning. Food was amazing, but there were a lot of other negatives as a part of our experience. We went there for Mother's Day brunch what a mistake. The food was terrible and for 75.00 per person we expected a lot more and the food that was available was cold or burnt (cookies) the pasta what there was of it was sticking to the bottom of the chafing dish and was so dried out it was crispy. No seafood, no beef. I am not sure who came up with the menu but very poor and sure not worth 75.00 per person. We were not the only one to complain very disappointed will never return. The service is fast and courteous. We were seated swiftly. We did have a reservation and would most likely recommend. We fully enjoyed the fresh hot French bread with garlic butter. My wife and I both had the Pork Schnitzel which was quite delicious! More than enough for the hungry . The menu offerings should please any appetite. Full service bar with great wine selection. Visited this place with my sisters in honor of my birthday recently. It was the first time for each of us, so we were eager to try as many dishes as possible to get a good grasp of what this place was all about. Most of the items we shared and then each one of us ordered our own entree. We ordered the arugula salad (great portion for the 4 of us) and it paired really well with the bread and butter that was brought to the table. Delicious. But kinda pricey. Our server also recommended the Rockefeller Oysters (not on the menu). These were baked with a creamy spinach goodness. I could've eaten all 6 of them, but that'd be rude. I'd go back for these alone! For my main I decided on the Poached Barramundi Fish - mostly bc I hardly ever cook fish at home and thought it'd be good to eat something different from my usual diet. Unfortunately, this dish didn't wow me. The fish and polenta were seasoned well, but the fish felt heavy and overcooked - not something I'd expect from a poached dish. Also, the large portions of 2 different purées on my plate were pretty bland and felt like I was eating baby food. I could only eat a few bites. Would not pay $39 for this in the future. A couple other things - 1) We sat on their outdoor patio - which is gorgeous! - but a couple girls in our party were really bothered by the spiders and bees surrounding us. They were literally covering their faces with napkins every time the bees would come on by. Perhaps it's just seasonal. But it'd be nice to have some kind of deterrent. 2) Our waiters were kind and helpful in telling about items on the menu, but they were not super attentive for the rest of the evening. My sister and I were parched by the end of our meal bc no one had come by to refill our water. Perhaps having a pitcher on the table would be a nice option. 3) The total bill was quite high and I don't feel as though the food quite measured up to the price. We really wanted to like this place because we had heard such great things about it. Our reservation was at 6:15, and we arrived early at 6:00. We were seated promptly, which unfortunately ended up being the only positive part of the evening. After being seated, it took about 20 minutes for our server to greet us. Thankfully, we already knew what we wanted and placed our order immediately. From there, we waited nearly an hour for our food. During that time, we were given a complimentary piece of bread each, but it was cold and hard. To make matters worse, our entrees arrived before our appetizer. Not only was that disappointing, but it also left our table overcrowded with plates. On top of that, the staff couldn't tell us which steak was medium rare and which was medium, so we had to cut into them ourselves to figure it out. It was clear that the surrounding tables were equally frustrated. Food was arriving late across the dining room, and the overall service was subpar. What stood out most was the lack of acknowledgment from the staff -- there was little empathy or apology for the obvious delays and poor experience everyone was having. The lunch menu was fairly limited (no beef sandwiches or burgers) with half the selections more dinner oriented. It's pricey! We dine out a lot, all over the US and abroad. And this was the first time I've ever been told "No coffee refills." $5 for a 6 oz cup of coffee and not even a warmup? We've dined at the finest and poorest and have never been denied a refill. A cozy, welcoming spot with truly delicious food! On our first visit, we tried the mozzarella chicken pesto, such a generous portion and absolutely delicious. The service was very slow, we were out of water multiple times and asked for refills and didn't get any. It took 20 mins to get drinks, We had a child and asked for their food to be rushed as we had been waiting over 1.5 hours, finally at 1 hour and 45 mins, the food was brought out. The food was ok, we got the chicken , past and schnitzel. Definitely overpriced. Overall, we wouldn't recommend coming here. We went to Slough House Kitchen for my birthday and had such a lovely experience! The food was fresh, flavorful, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. It's a nicer restaurant, yet still very kid-friendly, which we truly appreciated. They have a children's menu and made us feel completely comfortable bringing our kids along. The atmosphere was welcoming, the service was great (especially from our server Elena), and we enjoyed every moment. We're already looking forward to our next visit! read more
