The Bagel House sits in the rear of an old stone house at 804 Bethlehem Pike, Glenside. Small parking lot behind the building close by the door into the shop which appears more a walkout basement. By 1.00 on a Saturday afternoon the inventory was pretty light, but I scored a garlic bagel with veggie cream cheese. Service was fine as they explained they were closing in an hour. My order was completed quickly; wrapped and bagged as my change was tossed in the tip jar. The rounder was denser than I prefer, but still fresh and loaded with roasted garlic nubs and almost chunky veggies in the homemade spread. The menu offered breakfast and lunch sandwiches and standards like nova lox cut to order and traditional American fare like bacon, sausage or pork roll on bagel of choice. Spent over$20 (after tax) on a bagel with smoked salmon. I ordered onion on the bagel and there was a teaspoon of chopped onion. I asked for the bagel to be toasted, it was not. I've never been so disappointed in a bagel order. The bagel itself was not bad, but the price is outrageous and the server didn't listen to what I wanted. I was in the area earlier on the weekend and having passed by before, I thought I'd stop in to check it out. Interesting little shop in the bottom of a house. I went with two, bacon, egg, and cheese bagels with two hash browns. It was a little busy so it took some time, but the staff was very friendly. Got home to eat and thought everything was fine. Nice looking egg, a little light on the bacon (maybe two, relatively thin slices, so like one per half of sandwich.) Hash brown was your standard patty, though a little underdone in the center. Totally cooked, but just very light. I see people mentioning microwaving, so I'm not sure how it was all cooked. Bagel was nice and chewy. I'd say overall it's ok. read more

We've been here several times, and have always been pleased. Their bagels never were over-the-top good, but they were decent and provided a hearty foundation for cream cheese and lox. The last visit was different. I'm not sure if they're under new ownership, if they changed their recipe, or if it was an "off" day. The bagels were bready, and lacked the dense, chewy interior necessary to even qualify as a bagel. The flavor was bland, and faded with the addition of cream cheese. I should've seen the low stars and not ordered from here. So if you are reading this...DONT GO HERE. My husband picked up lunch for us and they didn't put the bagel sandwich in the bag. I called and asked if they could refund my credit card. The lady was apologetic and said yes of course . This is an unpretentious bagel shop that I've driven past 100's of times and decided to stop in one day as. Needed a quick late breakfast for everyone. I was waited on rather quickly. There wasn't very much to choose from. I ordered and everything (which the gentleman was nice enough to separate from the others) cinnamon raisin & plain. When I got home and took them out of the bag I was disappointed with how hard these bagels were. They were very challenging to slice and even after toasting them difficult to chew. It is easy to drive past The Bagel House on the Bethlehem Pike in Erdenheim without knowing it's there but if you like bagels - don't do that. I'm not a huge bagel person - I don't come from a bagel culture - but even I can tell these fresh-baked bagels are a cut above the average. Especially I think this is true when they are toasted. I tried the whole wheat bagel with the 'everything' topping and the cinnamon raisin and I enjoyed both. There are also a whole menu of bagel sandwiches you can try out including their Nova sammy which they put forward as a specialty. I haven't tried it as of yet. There is an off-street parking lot which is def needed as you can't park on the Bethlehem Pike. Hey maybe with bakery fresh bagels like these I'll become more of a bagel person! tip - They also own a food truck which sometimes makes an appearance at different events. read more

Such a neat place! We walked into beach boys blasting and there were just great vibes. The place is small, quiet, and quaint. They have every type of bagel you could dream of. We got egg, meat, and cheese bagels for breakfast and they were out of this world! It does take a little bit of time because it's a small operation but totally worth the wait. Pro tip: bring cash. They give you a 3% discount for using cash. Other than bagels they serve wraps and sandwiches as well. Seating is an issue so if you're trying to sit down they only have two outdoor tables and some benches. No seating inside due to the size of the place. read more

You just need to know what you are getting into. There is minimal to no seating and tables. This is more like a order and go place. The service was friendly and fast, but it also was not super busy when I stopped for lunch. I got turkey on a bagel with a coffee. I do think it's overpriced. I expected it after reading other reviews before I went so I wasn't too surprised. Turkey on a bagel with cheese $11 and a coffee $4. I would stop back eventually because the food was good, but for the price it's just not a place I am going to regularly stop. I try to support local businesses as much as I can, but for a basic black cup of coffee $4 just seemed steep. There was also only one size (large). It would've been great to have a smaller option for a cheaper price because I really didn't want to spend $4 for a basic coffee. Could I go to Wawa and get the same size coffee and a bagel sandwich for under $10 total, yes probably. They do make homemade flavored cream cheese though which sounds good, so that might be something worth trying. read more

There place does not have a sit down area but has a great variety of bagels - Rainbow, Poppy Seed, Sesame, Blueberry, Whole Wheat, Chocolate Chip, Everything, Pumpernickel, Plain, Cinnamon Raison, Salt, Garlic, and Rye! They also have different choices of cheese - American, Swiss, Provolone, Cheddar, and Muenster! Not only do they have a breakfast menu, but they also have a lunch menu! However, I was not a fan of the bagel! I ordered Bacon and Egg on a Sesame bagel. The egg was microwaved and they put one slice of bacon in the bagel. My boyfriend ordered bacon, egg, and cheese on a poppy seed bagel with ham and they gave him a plain bagel and no bacon. I was a regular here but I'm done. Went in this weekend and ordered two of "The Bagel House" from their menu. Their website says the sandwich should cost $3.59, the menu on the counter says the sandwich should cost $3.59, however, the menu on the wall reflects price changes and the sandwich increased by 95% to $5.99. It's literally $6 for a bagel with cream cheese, cucumber, tomato, and onion. I asked to substitute regular cream cheese for vegetable cream cheese. While I understand this could result in an upcharge, the upcharge was insane. The total for two bagels with vegetable cream cheese, cucumber, tomato, and onion came to $17.21. On what planet should this have cost $8.60 per bagel? Even in the highest rent neighborhood in New York this bagel wouldn't cost more than $5. They seem to have gotten greedy or delusional with their updated pricing. If they want to price gouge like this the least they could do is have accurate pricing on their website. I am such a picky bagel eater and I haven't had a consistent place since Roxy bagel closed. There is a place by my work that is good enough, but it's just missing something. While at home last week, I decided I wanted a bagel for breakfast and one for an awesome tuna sandwich I wanted to make at lunch. I yelped some places and saw there was one close by. I jumped in my car and made my way to the Bagel House. The owner, Steve, introduced himself to me and we chatted for a bit. He used to run Roxy! Awesome! I grabbed a baker's dozen and was on my way. I took some to my parent's house and brought some to my wife and some of her co-workers. Spreading the word and spreading the love. I enjoyed my bagels and I enjoyed the cream cheese too. Even though this is in the opposite direction from my work, I might pick up bagels for my co-workers from here in the future. This is most likely my go-to spot now. My wife enjoys unique flavors more than me, but I prefer the texture of a bagel over the weird flavors you can get. This tastes like a real bagel. I'm happy. When I went to pay the girl checking me out at the register she asked me if I wanted to leave a tip. A tip? For what? Really for what? I was shocked I was asked this. I felt awkward. Awkward that she asked for a tip. And awkward that she expected me to leave a tip. So I left $1 bill in the tip jar. The girl seemed perplexed when I told her I would leave cash in The jar. She actually looked down in The tip jar to see what I left. It was my first time here buying bagels. The bagels were good. Their bagels rival New York's style bagels. The bagels are not too heavy, they have a nice light crispy crust and a very tender inner layer. They're chewy yet tender. The inner bread layer has just enough moistness that makes you hate to even toast them. The flavors offered are your typical varieties, but well worth the taste. You may find them a bit pricey, but it's a nice splurge. The server was pleasant and courteous. Stop in if your in the mood for a taste of New York. read more
