This place did not disappoint! I got a cold brew and the French omelet from the weekday brunch menu. The cold brew was balanced and not weak/too strong. The omelet was delicious! It was a little runnier than I had expected, but to be fair it was a French omelet. The sourdough that came with it was good but it wasn't as sour as I would expect a Californian sourdough to be (however I think that is a personal bias). The staff was very polite and friendly. My husband and I absolutely love this place. When our baby spent her first few months in the NICU we would come in for coffee & breakfast multiple times a week. The fried capers were not preferred and the Hollandaise sauce was so thick that you could not taste the egg or smoked salmon. We come here every two weeks to pick up our daughter from UCR. The staff is really friendly, the kind that remembers your name. The coffee here is fantastic, smooth, great body flavor, and non bitter ending. I don't drink coffee but here I do for some reason. My wife is a coffee snob, and she buys her beans here. The food is interesting, and the flavors are always good. I think their baked goods could use some help. Their biscuit is more of a crisp, and the sourdough is always overly dark for my tastes. But the ingredients are local, fresh, and amazing. Never seen such sep orange eggs yolks and because they are fresh they don't have that horrible egg after taste ...you know what I'm talking about. I had previously gotten a tri tip sandwich during lunch which was pretty good, despite the small portion. I expected a similar quality of food for breakfast but I felt like both dishes I had were a miss. The meal started off with a 30 minute line. And rather than trying to quickly get orders in the front staff extended small talk which I thought was a bit inappropriate given the very long line behind me. The brekky sandwich was made well and the biscuit was delicious, however it could have used an element of sweetness. The size was pretty disappointing. I'd give it a 7/10, but absolutely not worth the $13 tag on it. The special chorizo hash was especially disappointing. The chorizo was much more similar to dry pepperoni and the potatoes were closer to steak potatoes than what you'd expect in a hash. The eggs, which topped the dish, were a bit undercooked. The carrot brown sugar muffin was underwhelming. It lacked sweetness and was on the dry side. It wasn't all disappointment, though. The swirly? Cookie was absolutely delicious and, if for nothing else, I'll come back for it. read more

I came in on Saturday at 9am; place was already half packed (~15 tables indoors, some outside). Menu has unique items. Customer service definitely deserves 5-star; every employee interaction that I had was super friendly. The only reason I gave this place 4-stars is because there are many flies (I saw maybe 50 flies, especially around the dirty dishes area) - they need to invest in fly traps or those air blowers as you walk in because you'll see people constantly swiping their hands to shoo the fly away. As for the food, price is typical of a standard cafe. Quality of food was very tasty (you get what you paid for); I had the blackberry french toast; my friends had french omelette and some type of coffee. By the time that I left at noon, place was packed, and there were 20 people in line. I would come back to this place again. read more

I went in with a friend for some coffee at the Bakehouse on September 24th a.m. A senior hispanic man had asked for a cup of coffee. The baristas, a guy and a girl, were not being helpful towards him at all. This paying customer was simply looking for sugar and cream and the girl just stared at him like she didn't understand a word he said even though he was speaking English. They both were not even trying to find a way to give him a good experience. The man left his cup of coffee and walked out, and the guy behind the bar told the girl "don't worry it's not like he's going to give us a yelp review anyway". Really saddening that this is the attitude of the workers. You should really be mindful about talking about customers in front of other customers, it's very rude and shows your true colors. read more

Went to this place expecting Jam N Bread. Entered and was confused because sign was outside but place was totally different inside. Evidentially, it was now Arcade Roasters (saw name on screen when I went to pay). Ordered two sandwiches to go. Curry chicken sounded good but was not; onion paper skins in chicken salad and prob a couple tablespoons on sandwich, at the most. Lots of bread for an almost $13.00 sandwich. No sides. The sandwich with and egg on top was enjoyed by my daughter. It looked much better than the curry chicken. Croissant for granddaughter was dry. Granddaughter didn't eat it at all (and she loves them). Disappointing food. Didn't try the coffee though, that my daughter says is great. This review is specifically for Arcade Bakehouse, not to be mistaken for the one located downtown, which is stellar. Called ahead to make sure Arcade Bakehouse was open, at which time the young woman said it was open until 4pm. We had some difficulty finding it once we arrived since their name is not located on the directory, so we called and spoke with the same young woman to ask for walking directions. She couldn't explain how to get there, saying things like "sorry, just go straight" or "sorry, I'm not good at this". We tried our best to locate it, still no luck so we called back again and luckily someone else answered and was able to easily tell us to type in Subway because they are two doors down. We finally walk in around 2:30pm, just for the first young woman to say, "sorry, we aren't serving food. Kitchen closed at 2pm". We reminded her that she told us they closed at 4pm, and she said, "sorry, it's closed". Confused, we asked her why she wouldn't have just told us the kitchen closed at 2:30 when we called so that we didn't spend time coming down for nothing to eat or drink. Meanwhile there are lots of people eating in there and kitchen still looked open. So we kindly tell her thank you and as we are walking out, we see her rolling her eyes to another gentleman off to the side (who apparently she said was her friend). Immediately went back to her to let her know that we had just observed what she did childishly and it was rude and unprofessional. This was our first visit. We support all local businesses and are valuable, respectable customers. If we are going to be made to feel unwelcome for your employee's mistake and immaturity, simply for trying to eat a meal and support as we do the downtown location, we cannot in good faith support. I came here a couple weeks ago to grab coffee and some food, and although we got our drinks pretty quickly (5-10 mins) we were kept waiting for 50 minutes for our food. When I came up to ask about the wait, we were told our orders had been lost in the system, and that they would put in our order and refund us the cost. We ended up receiving the food and it was pretty good! Coffee was also good, I liked my double espresso. It was a little more diluted than I usually prefer but tasted very strong and full-bodied without being burnt so no complaints there. We ended up reaching out to Arcade Roasters about our experience, and they made sure we got refunded for the wait and even threw in a gift certificate for us to use on our next visit.
