Meanwhile you have Dutch bros and Starbucks charging $6 and $7 for a coffee, they truly Don't care about their customers at all and paying $6 and $7 for a coffee at a chain is just ridiculous. We were passing by, and oh my, I'm already in love. This cute bakery has plenty of outdoor seating, with an amazing pastries selection and friendly staff. We intended to come here today for just bread to go with our pasta dinner tonight, but I couldn't say no to their vanilla bean & chocolate latte cake. We ended up getting: - Meyer lemon Rosemary sourdough - house made chai - slice of vanilla bean & chocolate cake I wanted to get more, but self restraint! Our verdict? Amazing!(and I'm not easily impressed when it comes to cake and chai) The house made chai: - I love chai, but I'm very picky about it. It has to be strong and fragrant in flavor, and not too sweet. While this one was a little sweeter than I typically like, everything else about it was phenomenal. It was fragrant and when you drink it, there's a little bit of spice that linger in your mouth. Very pleasant! I've tried chais up and down California, and this one is my 2nd favorite(right after red bay coffee in Oakland, CA). The vanilla bean & chocolate latte cake: - Full of flavor, I didn't really expect it to have such a distinct flavor between the vanilla bean and chocolate latte, but the separation in the cream layers in amazing. I finally made it here after following them on Instagram and drooling over their beautiful pastries!! We stopped in around noon on a Friday afternoon and it was really busy! No seating inside yet, but they have a nice patio with tables to sit at. Social distancing and masks on point. We bought a Ciabbata loaf to bring home and two chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were devoured on site and were delicious!! The Ciabatta bread was served later with cheeses and meats for a light dinner. YUM. Everything is baked on site and so fresh. I think there were at least twelve different types of bread to bring home, and a pastry case FULL of yumminess.... Scones, muffins, cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls.... You get the idea! On street parking - easy to find and get to. Very friendly employees. Can't wait to go back and try something else. read more

The MOST delicious meyer's lemon, rosemary & sea salt bread. Absolutely addictive! Thankfully, our local Whole Foods gets deliveries, but stopping here for lunch was a treat! Stopped by this establishment on our way to Reno. It's conveniently located close to hwy 80. We ordered a pastrami sandwich, chai latte and a delicious lavender cookie. The pastrami sandwich had a generous amount of pastrami and some sauerkraut. It was very tasty. There was a line from the cashier to the door when we walked in but it moved very quickly. They definitely have it organized to handle the orders and cashier to move quickly but are still very friendly. Not much space to stand while waiting for our order but the polite tall young man was happy to get our names and bring our order out to us outside. There are 6-9 tables inside and a 4-5 outside. It's definitely a popular place. The consignment store across the street was a fun distraction too with great prices on their merchandise. We will make this a regular stop on our way to or from Reno. read more

Started patronizing this popular Auburn joint in February 2020 and had a chance to dine-in and breathe in the bakery's fresh baked aroma. We gobbled the hipster toast and pastrami on rye with gusto. Our cappuccinos weren't bad, it's just that they were served on paper cups. We understood that the place was buzzing on that weekend morning which caused minor slip-ups on our otherwise excellent brunch experience. During the lockdown we came here for the pastries to-go multiple times and our favorites have been the banana chocolate and almond croissants. A very useful tip for the uninitiated, since they almost always run out of the favorites, order ahead. We call to save our treats while were out hiking in the Auburn trails. read more

What a lovely place with excellent sandwiches and baked goods. I had the roasted turkey sandwich, and the bread was fresh and non-processed, while the pickled onions elevated the sandwich beyond what the usual turkey sandwich (what I like to call "The Midlife Special"). The service was friendly and efficient, even during a busy time, and it was hard to pass up the wonderful-looking cakes on display. The pickles on the side of my sandwich were so good that I ended up buying some to take home. Not sure what has happened, but over the last few visits I've noticed that they are consistently out of food mid-way through the day. For example, I went today at 1p, only to see that they were sold out of basically every pastry, all bread loaves, and quiches. Not sure why this would happen when they are open until 4p... especially during a holiday week. Since they are a bakery, I assumed the one thing they would keep baking throughout the day would be baked goods. Additionally, it seems like they may have hired a new cook, because the recipes are definitely different (I.e. seasonal salad has pears and roasted onions and bell peppers). I was so excited when they had new owners, but now I'm concerned at the constantly empty cases. Maybe they're too focused on their commercial bread sales? Hopefully, they turn the corner because I love supporting them! read more

My coworker was grabbing some delicious coffee from Dutch bros and I wanted to get some delicious pastries to go with it. Happy this location came up by our office. Also thankful I showed up when I did because their selection was about to become slim from the variety of pastries I picked out. I grabbed the almond plum muffin, Croissant, bakers special cookie which I was told had corn flakes and chocolate chips, sweet brioche, pumpkin something muffin, apricot scone, and potato bomb. Travel through Auburn and stopped by this cafe with lots of great bake goods and beverages. Great location off the freeway. Easy to pick up something as you travel through town. Because of how popular this cafe since it has such great treats and drinks, the line can get quite long. There are indoor and outdoor tables. The line can make the indoors quite small. Going to the Baker and the Cakemaker is part of my Saturday routine! I drive up to Auburn with my friend, run, then finish off the morning with chai and food. I always get their in-house chai (you can bring in your mug to reduce waste) as it's got a good spicy/sweet balance. As a vegetarian, I stick to their delicious quiche, which changes frequently, that comes with a side salad and house-made bread. MMM! Their bread alone, warmed up, is excellent. Because the line moves past the bakery case, I always end up with a pastry to-go, whether it's a slice of their cake-of-the-week, molasses cookie, or a savory or sweet croissant. I once left with a cinnamon roll and slice of chai coconut cake... mmm. There seems to always be seating although it's a pretty tiny place. At least while I'm there, most people take their food/drink to-go. read more

I had an amazing idea today after the dentist to go and have a sandwich and salad Most of the time I love this place great bread homemade and yummy coffee on point. No soup and she pointed toward the register. I said is there a sign sorry I missed , her reply yes it says quinoa salad today. I said ah ok I ordered that but my question is how am I suppose to know that they usually post there for there soup of the day :/ I then get my sandwich and and quinoa salad a coffee and a danish to take home to my son. 39 dollar lunch it's ok inflation ... I asked if I could get extra pickles after she brought me the sanwhich with two pickles the size of nickels. She said I'll try to get u a couple more. She went back and the gastopo in the back scolded her for asking and advices her to go back and tell the customer it's a fee. For an expensive sandwich that was barely 1/4 inch thick with anything on it then asking for an adequate amazing of pickles and getting to watch the kitchen lord remind the nice coffee girl she needs to charge was so disappointing. Had there not have been two small nickle size pickles (hey that's a rhyme) and really this is silly. You can go to a taxo stand down the road buy a huge lunch desert and drink for half the price and get a full bar of condiments chips you name it ... someone's pocketbook is much fuller then the customers plate I felt bad for the coffee girl and this establishment for being so greedy. Seeing the Bay Area big money coming in they are taking pure advantage of the money. And btw your quinoa sale was so salty it stung my tongue read more

Definitely a 5 star experience I believe the family referenced the sandwiches as some of "the best they've ever had". Lots of different bakery items to choose from and prices are reasonable. Service is excellent. Parking is hard in this area on the weekend and it's definitely a very very busy place so plan accordingly. read more
