I've been an unlimited bar member ever since. I have a number of joint issues that keep me from doing most workouts, but bar is one of the only things I can do because they focus on safety and strength with modifications as needed. I've never found a workout that I could personalize to my restrictions and still feel physically challenged. I've been to a number of other studios throughout the years as I've travelled for work, but Bar Method Montrose will always be my home. These ladies are something special and they do an amazing job of not only getting you fit, but also making you feel good about yourself. There is such a strong sense of community and camaraderie in this place. I've made some amazing friends that have supported me through so much over the years, including this very challenging time of COVID. While I'm not usually a fan of barre type classes, I decided to venture out and purchase a Groupon for a class pack. In order to activate the pack, I was told to call the studio and then it would be taken care of from there. I tried calling multiple days/ times (while they say they are open), but could never get through. Eventually, I decided to just show up in person at the time of a class I wanted to attend. Luckily, they were able to quickly get me setup in the system and I was able to attend the class I had shown up for. The first class I selected was the Cardio Express class. As I usually like faster paced workouts, I thought this would be my best bet. The instructor was very welcoming and helped me get setup. The class itself was much harder than I expected but it really was a great workout. I was sore in the days after this class. Best workout for core strength. I went on a yoga retreat and because of barre I was able to do handstands / inversions and arm balances. It's a fun community here. Also the exercises are safe. The more you do the, the harder the exercises get because you're going against your own body strength. My only complaint is I would like more restorative :) read more

I received a gift card here and purchased the month-long unlimited-class membership for $89 after spraining my ankle pretty severely during a marathon. They were running a promo at the time--I believe it is usually closer to $159/169. I have tried barre before through Pure Barre and had a difficult time with it. I felt like I wasn't doing the exercises correctly, wasn't getting a good workout out of it, and was possibly even injuring myself. I was also cramping a lot during the exercises! I've now been going to Bar Method for 2-3 weeks, and I can confidently say I feel completely differently about this studio. They really focus on form and preventing injury here. The instructors give detailed verbal instruction, demonstrate exercises, and are extremely personable. On my first day here and every day since then (I've only missed one day so far), the instructors learned my name and always greet me by name when I come in. During class, it helps immensely that they refer to me by name if they give verbal adjustments, though they oftentimes will also come up to me to help me reposition! I am no longer cramping throughout class, and I am definitely working up a sweat and trembling with all the isometric and tiny movements (they also have classes that focus on more cardio-intensive, big movements, as well as ones with more stretching incorporated). Classes range between 45 and 60 minutes, and they have locker rooms, changing rooms, bathrooms, and showers on site. There are maybe 10-15 parking spots out front, but when classes are packed (27 max), you'll have to park on the street or in a lot out back (unsure if this is actually reserved for Bar Method). I've really enjoyed my time here and think the community is really kind and tight-knit. I feel like I've built a lot of strength in muscles I'm not used to using, rehabbed my ankle and increased stability in it, and increased both my balance and flexibility. No phones in class so I don't have pictures of the interior of the room, but it is quite nice! It does feel a bit cramped with 27 people (would prefer to see a limit of 20), but there is ample bar space and more than enough weights, mini-mats, and risers to go around. Oh, and when you join, you get a stamp card for a free pair of sticky socks after completing 12 classes! read more

I'm nearing 600 classes and I'm still just as excited to walk into the studio now as I was for my first class. The targeted workouts have not only been great for my body, but for my mind. Whenever I walk into class, I know that I have 45-60 minutes of dedicated time just for me. It also gives me a chance to escape, which is meditative and therapeutic. The Bar Method is my favorite barre studio in Houston. I love that I leave every class feeling stronger and I also feel balanced either as a way to begin my day or to wind down. Another reason I felt drawn to this studio is the attention to details and client engagement. The owners and staff are all so kind, and really take the time to get to know each client and their needs. It still amazes me that every single staff member knew my name after only meeting me once! Lastly, they offer several options for classes - traditional barre, cardio, strength, and flow. The ability to pick and choose based on your interests or your mood is really unique. I've been taking classes here for almost 10 months now and still love it just as much (if not more) than when I first started. And I truly see and feel a difference! I LOVE Bar Method!!! Claudia is my favorite instructor, but all of the instructors are so lovely and nice. I was just wow'ed by the fact that they take such care in knowing your name and making sure you are comfortable in your first class. I'm pretty sure some of them knew my name before I even met them in person, which just made me feel super special and appreciated as a client. They have awesome amenities including towels and lockers. They even have a locker room where you can shower after your workout. The studio is sooo clean. Even the white carpet in the rooms are amazingly clean (how do y'all do it ???!!???!) The workouts themselves are phenomenal. The instructors really focus on form (as compared to other places where they move super fast) and tell you how to make corrections to make sure you get the best workout. I wish they had more locations / smaller classes because the classes do get packed, especially on the weekends. But definitely give the Bar Method a try!! They are amazing! read more

My first barre experience was at this studio and I loved it! Barre can be intimidating, especially for uncoordinated people like myself, but by the end of the class you'll feel like the work you did has transformed you into a graceful and erm, sweaty, ballerina that can do anything. Bar Method understands their clients desires to not only feel welcomed and comfortable their first time doing barre, but also their desire to learn proper form and get a good workout! The instructor I had, Claudia, was so excellent. I'm doing ClassPass right now and have met at least a dozen group fitness instructors over the past few weeks, but Claudia certainly stands out as the most welcoming, encouraging, and motivating instructors I've had the pleasure of learning from. She learns everyone's name, helps first timers with their equipment during class, and makes form corrections gently. The studio is sparkly clean with lockable lockers, showers, and towels/water. Get there 15 min early to sign a waiver and get a tour/explanation of your first class. As other reviewers have noted, these classes are not as intense as Define Body but it's likely also because Define Body isn't solely barre (it seems like a combo of barre and high intensity Pilates). That said, I liked that I could challenge myself without feeling like I was going to collapse into a heap. The wonderful thing about barre is that as long as you're able to zone out and only focus on yourself, your form, and your shaking muscles...you're gonna get a great whole body workout that's gentle on your joints but tough on your willpower! I took a bar class somewhere else (shall remain nameless) years ago and really did not feel like I got a good workout. My friend convinced me to try Bar Method - my view on bar has completely changed! What sets Bar Method apart from other bar studios in Houston? Many of the exercises in bar class are very settle, very small. So if you are new, it can be difficult to follow along and watch your neighbor for direction. I tried my first barre class with Claudia on Monday at 4:45pm. Claudia is a great instructor and is very good at helping to teach the proper technique. The class incorporated light dumbbells for the arm and some back exercises then you stand and work your lower body (quads, glutes, hammies) and core at the bar. After that you hit the mat and floor for core and glute work. Stretching goes on throughout the class. This workout definitely works the muscles with small movements and is low impact so I would say almost anyone can participate. read more
