i LOVE THIS PLACE. i wish they had more locations but truly this is the best workout ive done in forever. You do a 60 min workout consisting of 20 min of spin, 20 min of strength, 20 min of yoga in that order. i've tried so many spin and pilates classes and i find myself getting bored of them but i never get that feeling at Spenga. Liz is a phenomenal instructor, but all of the instructors are so high energy and make sure you have correct form to stay safe while working out. It's pretty beginner friendly, and the instructors offer modifications during each workout so you never feel weird about maybe not being able to do the workout exactly like them. I have made all my friends try spenga at least once and I'm truly obsessed. read more

Ever since they built Spenga, I've always driven past it on Westhiemer and always wondered what it would be. I finally decided to look into it and saw it on ClassPass. The first time I took Spenga, I kept telling my best friend I wanted to come back immediately! We both booked through ClassPass since we wanted to try out a new studio. Plus, 3 - 20 min exercises in one class is super interesting. 20 min of cycling, 20 min of weight lifting, and 20 min of yoga at the end to cool down. The front desk staff are quite inviting! The instructors have AMAZING energy, especially when we first took our class with Sergio. He was motivating, smiled, and just had this high energy that kept me going in my workout. ESPECIALLY, during the first 20 min of the spin portion. I recorded my workouts on my apple watch for each section and booooiiii you basically burn about 400 calories total! You gotta bring your own towel and of course water!! They got you dripping in sweat! There's plenty of parking in the back of the building, plus lockers to put your stuff in and shower. I highly recommend trying this place out! You get everything you need from cardio, weights, to even yoga cool down. read more

I tried out Spenga on classpass for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. It's been a long time since I've done spin or yoga (I tend to prefer HIIT workout on the treadmill usually) but it was really enjoyable. I think the way it was structured - spin, then strength, then yoga flows really well. You go from most intense to least intense and yoga at the end is a really good way to end it. Often I tend to forget stretching at the end of these workout classes and this actually forces me to chill and stretch after an intense workout. The instructor (Sergio) also had really good energy and a killer playlist. read more

SPENGA is great for people who want a little bit of everything in their workouts! It combines spin, strength, and yoga into 1 hour. Staff and instructors are really friendly and helpful! Each class starts with 20 minutes of spinning, which usually consists of both speed and resistance training on the bike. The structure and focus is a little different than a traditional spin class. There is a focus on "zones" which is individualized based on your past performances. The music is great and instructors will talk you through the entire time. Next is 20 minutes of work on the strength floor. Each day is a different type of strength workout, sometimes with a focus on a certain muscle group. It's always challenging and the instructors are very supportive! Each workout ends with 20 minutes of yoga. Its a great recovery time but can also be challenging. Even if you're new to yoga, you'll be able to follow along and get a lot out of it. For yogis, every Sunday, there is a "REVIVE" class that is a full hour of yoga. I've also been told that there will be a class called "REPS" on Tuesdays focusing on strength! Needless to say, I always leave feeling like I got a fantastic workout and my muscles are on fire the next day. First class is free for newbies. Music playlist was good. Only thing I didn't like is the reps are fast, so if you are a beginner talk to the teacher. They have modifications. read more

You will be hard-pressed to find a boutique fitness studio in Houston like this one. I think anyone would agree with me when I say that feeling INCLUDED and SUPPORTED is a huge factor in deciding where to spend your hard earned dollar. Unlimited memberships are the best bang for your buck in these studios and at Spenga, you will pay $99 for that comparable to others that cost $200 (for a 6 month contract) or more. Can I also please touch on how nice E V E R Y O N E is? I sat with one of the owners after my first class, who is incredibly knowledgeable on all things fitness and nutrition, and felt like I'd known him my whole life. Cannot recommend this place for several reasons. Cancellation is difficult if you have extenuating circumstances such as business travel. Although they will correspond with members via text or email, they require cancellation in person, or as they advised late in the game, by certified mail, all the while billing my card for membership fees. This lack of accommodation for my circumstances was justified by the owner citing state regulations, which apparently allows them to be so inflexible. This experience left me with negative feelings for this place which I had already found lacking in the positivity and warmth I have experienced in other studios. Vibes matter. Let me just say that I have always been the type of person who says they hate working out. I've tried workout classes before like OT or bootcamp style classes and I never felt that I enjoyed going back to those classes. Up until now, I have never looked forward to working out or going to the gym... until I found Spenga!! Super cool idea of combining spin, strength, and yoga. One of my favorite things about this setup is that you get ~20 minutes for each segment, so if you hate spin like I do, at least you only have 20 minutes of it!! Haha. But really, the spin section is really challenging and a great workout on top of the 20 minute HIIT style strength sessions. One of the things that keeps me going through the workout is the light at the end of the tunnel-- yoga. No matter how hard the spin or strength sessions are, the yoga helps you become centered and focus on stretching out your body like you're supposed to after a full body workout. Another cool thing about the spin section is that their technology monitors your performance and sends you a summary of how you did/what your strength is. (Pictures attached) As you take more classes, your zone/goals will adjust to become more difficult and personally tailored to you so that you're always pushing yourself to become stronger! Overall, the workouts and teachers are great and everyone at the gym is so nice and friendly. I just moved to Houston 2 weeks ago so it has been really nice to feel welcomed so soon. read more

This new facility in the Montrose area adds a new cutting-edge way to working out. Its very Innovative and the first-of-its-kind if you ask me. It's a combination of spinning, resistance training, and yoga. Now if you can tell me other places that provide all of that in one workout I will be shocked. The sessions are really neat in which you track your heart rate on the bicycles that is projected up on the screen for you to monitor for accountability. Although, there isn't really any tracking for the resistance and yoga piece but the equipment and how its setup is very Nifty. Then your cool down session is the yoga in which I really enjoyed because a lot of work out facilities don't really provide a cool down portion. From the advertisements I've seen online I think they're in competition with Orangetheory and then from my such poor experience with Orangetheory I would surely support this facility over the latter. Although the concepts are both are very different in the sense that I feel as if Orangetheory is a bit more intensified training versus SPENGA. Overall go I would surely attend another session for this establishment and recommend them over orangetheory anyday. read more

I joined this gym in April. I have been a member at numerous fitness facilities in the last 20 years but this is the most manipulated I've felt. I was never told it auto renews. I was never told there was a 30-day cancellation policy. I was never told to cancel I have to physically go in. I learned shortly after I joined I would have to get surgery and I'm in too much pain to exercise. I will now end up being charged $200 or more for a service I can't use. Nowhere on MINDBODY or my account did it say it auto renewed. In fact, on MINDBODY it said it expired 5/15. As a single mom and a teacher to have to physically go in to cancel but to be electronically charged repeatedly is incredibly inconvenient and terrible service. read more

I love this place. I've lived in houston for five years now and I was yet to find a gym that I actually liked. I've tried every iteration of spin/yoga/barre class (practically) in houston but haven't felt drawn to any of them. The best things about spenga are the variety of workout and fast moving approach. I love that I feel strengthened and lengthened all in one class. By the time I feel slightly bored of spinning for example, we are already moving to the strength floor. The gym is sparkling clean and everyone is very friendly. I've been enjoying this place so much that I've been waking before work to go to the 5am class.... something I have never, ever done before! The 5am and 430pm classes are perfect for people who go to work early but get out early like myself. I would give 1/4 star off for the monthly price but this seems to be the going rate for most gyms these days! Bottom line- this workout method is fun, fast paced, entertaining, and moreover- a great workout. I highly recommend. read more

Spenga has completely redefined my impression of a killer workout! I walk out of there 100% physically spent! As with any group class environment you can push as hard as you/your body feels like. 20 minutes of spin is PLENTY to kick your butt and get your heart rate up. The strength segment will leave your muscles shaking with fatigue!! And don't be afraid of the yoga component; just follow the guidance etched on the yoga block at your mat, "Practice On"!! My sister and I tried Spenga in December! They offer a free class. It was amazing! Upbeat music to get you pumped but it isn't busting your eardrums like at other cycling places, clean facilities (can all of germaphobes say, "Amen!"), very talented and skilled coaches who are willing to help you with form and getting set-up in the bikes, and an all body workout! Spenga Montrose has become my one stop shop for fitness since it opened. I attend classes 3-5 times a week, and I have seen measurable results without changing my diet. The 20/20/20 format appeals to my lack of commitment while allowing me to get done with cardio, strength, and stretching in one session. Ever notice that new funky neon green building across from Numbers in Montrose? That's Spenga and it's my new workout addiction! It's 20 minutes of spinning, 20 minutes of strength training and 20 minutes of yoga. You knock it all out in an hour! The studio is clean and modern, and smells great, almost like aromatherapy. During spin, they shut the lights off with only a green glow, turn up the music and challenge you to go for it while utilizing state of the art technology! Before you know it, 20 minutes has passed and you're transitioning to a different room where each person has their own workout station with their own entire set of weights/balls/TRX straps/kettle bells, etc already set up so people are not racing around and knocking each other down trying to make sure they have what they need. This makes for a relaxed, civilized vibe. After you rep it for 20 mins, you head to the yoga room where mats are set up. I know yoga/stretching/balancing exercises are good for me, but in the past I have neglected this area during my workouts. Now it's all just part of the Spenga flow. Above all, each and every member of the staff is suuuuuper friendly, they call you by your name and are welcoming, accommodating and encouraging. Bonus: they clean all of the mats and equipment for you! Oh yeah, there's plenty of free parking, too! I'm so grateful I went in and tried out a class. I've been to Spenga 5x a week for over a month (I love it that much!) and it has completely changed how I look and feel! It has even prompted me to make dietary and other lifestyle changes.
