I'm never taking my dog here again. My dog was traumatized and is still suffering and acting weird a week later. I had never had a problem going here in the past, but they have a new groomer working there and she was horrible. Our dog had never had a problem being shaved when she got a little matted, but this new groomer scraped the skin with the clippers which caused a serious skin irritation and us having to put a cone on the dog so she wouldn't lick the wound. Four nights of us not getting any sleep because the dog was trying to lick her wound all night long because it was bothering her. The next problem was they did not trim our dog's nails like they are usually trimmed during a full grooming session. So, when she started scratching because of the first irritation she couldn't reach, she caused a second skin irritation from her long nails that weren't cut like they were supposed to be. The third problem was that I told them when I arrived to only trim her eye lashes a tiny bit since they were very long and beautiful from growing over the last three years. Well, they butchered her eye lashes right off, all the way down to the eyes. That eyelash incident sucks, but is minor compared to the physical pain and discomfort she has been going through, which is now so bad we're going to take her to the vet today. All of this because of a visit to Bark and Collar. Horrible. Never again. read more

I asked for the teddy bear cut for my girl, but didn't want it too short... it's PERFECT. I've explained this style to so many groomers, and none of them got it right.. until now! I also had my other Pomeranian just get a bath and brush and he looked amazing too! I have had my dog groomed at a few different groomers and this groomer provides the best experience I have had. ConsIstently.

Tried many groomers in the past several years. B and C is the best around. I started with them years ago when they were new and small. They took care of my dogs as if they were their own. Kandice and Mike were so helpful and patient. Since it's not close to my home,there were a couple of times that I tried other groomers out of convenience, but I always end up coming back. Everything is in the open for customers to see ( they don't keep the dogs in tiny cages like others). They put both of my pups in the same kennel area so they aren't as scared, and I've watched the way they and the staff handle the other dogs with such kindness and patience. Since the business has grown, it does get busy, but Kandice is always around making sure all is well. They've earned my loyalty! read more

The first time we brought our husky here (about a year ago), we absolutely loved it. However, our more recent trip was not as great. When calling to make the appointment, the customer service was awful. I reluctantly still booked it since the previous service we received was so great, but I wish I hadn't. We paid $86 total for her service, which included de-shedding, sanitary trimmings (paws and back end), and nail trimming. When we got home I realized that she had either not been brushed out or they just did not pay attention because I ended up having to completely brush her coat out myself, which defeated the purpose of paying extra for de-shedding. I also noticed that the sanitary trimmings were not completed. This lack of service led me to checking her nails, which I noticed were slightly trimmed on her front paws (but were left long and not buffed which we paid for), but both her back paws were completely untouched. She was given a bandanna to wear, but that was the only sign of her having any service done. We will not be returning. read more

Roxie, Stella and I give Bark & Collar eight paws and two thumbs up! The PooGirls have gone to a lot of groomers over the years. These guys are SOOOOO nice and accommodating. For the first time, Roxie came home without anxiety. Plus, they are specialists with poodle cuts. YAY! Not only were they awesome with Roxie, but they handled my unfortunate rant via voicemail regarding Roxie's collar and business hours and who knows what. I had had a super rough couple of days and they unfortunately got the brunt of it via voicemail. They didn't even get ruffled. They called and calmly spoke to me in person and even sent Roxie's collar by mail so I didn't have to make another special trip to Poway to get it. I have a pit bull mix and he such a well behaved dog! The problem is, his breed seems to scare people. I was able to take him here and they treated him with such love and respect! Candace has a special touch; she made my dog feel comfortable and relaxed even while trimming his nails. I will definitely keep going out of my way to bring him here. read more

This spot is in close proximity to me and I wanted to love it, and was sure I would with all the 5-star reviews, which is rare for a groomer...we tried Bark & Collar twice and unfortunately both times our mini-Goldendoodle came home with gapped up hair - for example: he was shaved almost to the skin behind one leg (looked like an accident), the paws weren't trimmed as short as they should've been or what I'd expect after a full-groom, random long pieces of (missed) hair throughout his body, and his face was barely trimmed. Overall, it just seemed like a groom you'd expect if you lent your dog to a grooming school for training purposes - that's the best way I know to describe it. In 4 years, my dog has been groomed several times but we've never experienced a haircut like this. I REALLY hate to leave a negative review but this is my experience (in trying them twice), I expect more from a $70 groom, and I feel mislead from the other 5-star reviews. I'm sure they do other good work but maybe poodles aren't their strength. They were able to accommodate an appointment in short notice, he did come home with a cute bandana and the staff was nice. read more

I brought my cat here a while ago for a bath and loved the experience! They scheduled her in the morning so there weren't too many dogs around when I brought her in which I appreciated (and the one dog who was there they took to the back for a moment when we came in so she wouldn't see him and get scared). She came back a couple hours later smelling and looking fantastic AND, most notable, she was not terrified and in "hiding mode" all day like she usually is after baths - she was In a great mood which is super abnormal when she gets groomed which leads me to believe they really know their stuff! I chose by location since other groomers in the area, don't follow directions. I was super pleased by the groomers and their establishment. These guys were great! We ran in for a last minute nail trimming for both of our pups and they were able to accommodate us even with 10 minutes before closing. I can't remember the groomers name, but she was extremely gentle with our nervous puppy and delicate with our older pup that has a bit of a weird nail. Definitely will come again. read more

Not what I'd call a normal visit to the groomers, but I was extremely impressed with how Kandice and her team handled a very difficult and emotional situation! My elderly mother has two old cats (Dennis 15 yrs. and Mittens 20 yrs.) that she has been taking to Bark and Collar for awhile. She has always been very happy with the service and the people there, and they have always taken great care of my Mom and her "Babies" (Mom's words). Long story short, my mom had injured herself and was at our house convalescing, so I ran the cats down for their bath and nail trim, then went back to Mom's house to do some chores. About an hour after I'd dropped the cats off I got a call from one of the groomers saying that Mittens had gone unresponsive and that they had rushed him next door to Midland Animal Hospital. Sadly they were never able to revive Mittens :( When I went in to pick up Dennis, Kandice was there and was so kind and gracious (and obviously sad over what had happened). Even though it wasn't any fault of theirs, she wouldn't let me pay for the services and even offered to pay any vet bills and for cremation services for Mittens! Again, none of this was their fault! Mittens was an old cat! Thank you Kandice and your staff for being so supportive and kind during what was a very tough day for everyone. It was obvious that you and your staff truly care about the animals (and the people) that come through your door! If I lived closer I would definitely bring our pups to your shop! read more

When someone asked me what breed my pup was, I replied, "I am not sure we rescued him" and they said "Yesterday?", aaand I knew it was time to get Tucker groomed. We usually don't wait so long but his last experience at a pet store salon was traumatizing for him. It took him weeks to recover from nicks and razor burns on his paws. Not to mention he was very afraid of any buzzing sound now. My wife told me about a place close to her work in Poway that just opened, After seeing the wonderful reviews we decided to give it a try. I am so glad we did. Tucker looks amazing and was actually SMILING at the shop. They didn't shave our dog, they GROOMED him! I could not be more pleased with how they took care of him. After having recently moved from Clairemont to North County I was dreading having to find a new groomer since there have been a couple who have completely butchered my shih tzus hair, but I am so thankful I gave The Bark & Collar a try based upon their stellar Yelp reviews. I waited until our second visit to The Bark & Collar to leave a review just to ensure they are consistent with their grooming styles and they are! The staff at The Bark & Collar is absolutely amazing and Shaka my shih tzu was beautiful after they were done with her. From scheduling the appointment, to dropping her off, and then picking her up the staff was extremely friendly and great with Shaka. You can also create an account via their website through which you can then see appointment availabilities and schedule your own appointment, which is extremely convenient. They are always quick at getting her done. Her appointment takes about 2 hours (for a full groom I consider that excellent timing). The cut and shape of her cut was perfect and they even suggested different lengths for her hair for summer versus winter cuts. They also always put a cute bandana on her after her appointment. I am extremely happy to make The Bark & Collar Shaka's groomer from here on. Their prices are extremely reasonable and first time customers get a discount. Highly recommend! read more

I found the Bark and Collar on yelp and I'm so happy I did! They were very accommodating from scheduling the appointment (I had to last minute reschedule) to taking care of my dog. I was beyond happy with the service! My dog, Winston, is a shy little guy who hates the water, has extremely black nails and doesn't like getting his teeth brushed (essentially a grooming headache). The groomer was awesome with him! She was understanding, caring and knowledgable(she explained her technique to me how to clip his nails so he feels more comfortable). When I picked him up (they gave me a 10minute call beforehand which was very appreciated) he smelled amazing, his coat has felt the softest it has ever felt, his nails looked great and his teeth were totally clean, all of which came at an excellent price for the quality of service. Today was our second time visiting Bark & Collar and it definitely won't be our last. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with friendly smiles and they're even friendlier to your pups! I have a chihuahua who gets bad anxiety and doesn't always like being groomed but they handled him professionally and he looks great. If I could give zero stars I would have. We dropped our small dog off for a bath and haircut at 1 PM, they take her and say nothing else to us and we go on our way. A few minutes later they call to ask how we want our dogs hair cut, which I do not know why they didn't do while we were there. I wait over two hours before calling and checking to see a time frame they would be done and the phone went to voicemail. Shelley called back a few minutes later and when I asked for a timeframe to get my dog she said, "well I do not know if anyone let you know but I am the only one working today and I still have three dogs ahead of yours." I'm sorry but that is something you tell your clients well before they drop their dogs off that you are short staffed, and at an absolute minimum tell them when they are dropping the dog off. After two hours our dog had only just started a bath and was just sitting in there. I'm all about supporting small businesses, but they were highly unprofessional and rude on the phone when I voiced my concerns about how they handled this situation. Definitely do not recommend this groomer when there are other options in this area that are more organized and professional. read more
