Let me first just say that I have not dined with this establishment for nearly 15 years. I was quite excited to know it was under new mgmnt with the Hadfield brothers overseeing. I have heard nothing but good things about The Rail across the street so had high expectations in BNI. The atmosphere is absolutely lovely. Huge bar, tavern-esque feel. Very cozy. The meal was not bad and in fact was an extensive menu that surely made me feel I would've want to try several items. What threw me for the evening was the horrid service. Started off ordering cocktails and our waitress walked away before my father had even finished putting in his order, and therefore she missed him saying that he wanted olives. Instead he was served a martini with a twist, no olives. All four of us in fact ordered martinis. I was basically served a shaker that I had to pour myself and then stare at for the next hour as it was never removed from my the table until dinner was near over. Oh and no water was served. I had to ask for that as well. But going back, my dad did eventually get olives ( 2 of them ) served on a plate and basically thrown about on the table. Keep in mind none of the service was met with a smile or even asking us how is everything. I don't ask for much but I ask for respect and kindness, especially if you expect people to return. Meal was served. Not once did waitress return to ask how it was. Bottle of wine was served halfway through the main course. What is the point I ask you?! I really do want to give the Hadfields and BNI some positive feedback but literally quite impossible in this case and absolutely left a bad taste in my mouth. Only to then end the night with a 3% non cash adjustment tax be added on top of the bill. No transparency my friends. I know times are tough with staffing shortages and prices literally increasing on anything and everything but this is a disparage to customers. So in the end I can't tell you not to go here. All I can say is if you get sat in Kathleen P's section, who clearly doesn't have a sense of humor nor the ability to serve with a smile, then good luck. I personally won't be returning and if asked by anyone I likely would be honest about my experience. It's disheartening. That's all I can offer. read more

Delicious!!! You might want to call for a reservation a day or two in advance to get a spot because this place is popular. They have a great bar and tons of speciality drinks. I've gone many times and tried different things on the menu such as: -calamari: probably the best I've ever had -clam chowder: YUM -roasted chicken: big meal, amazing flavor -salmon: delicious -short ribs: so good -burger and fries: yum and the fries were so crunchy -lobster risotto: it's not always on the menu but it's really yummy if they have it available -chocolate torte with raspberry sauce: OH MY GOSH GET THIS! read more

While on vacation, we wanted to treat ourselves to a nice dinner, and after looking at a few websites, and having driven by, we checked out their menu online and thought we would have good luck here. We made a reservation online, asking for the best table possible as it was a special occasion. Upon arrival we were seated at a table right in the middle of the room, right next to the only other table in the entire place that was occupied by other guests. This seemed like a strange choice given our request, particularly with plenty of available tables, but we were told they were all being held for reservations (which we also had, but apparently that didn't matter. We asked a few questions about the menu, and the server didn't really seem to have the answers, explaining that they had recently brought in a new chef and he had made some changes to the menu. The problem was, that the menu descriptions printed on the menus that they gave us were not even close to what we received. There was a scallop entree on the main menu and a scallop entree on the specials menu. Both sounded delicious, but the dish that I received had sauce and sides that weren't from either description. What made it worse was that nobody seemed to realize or care that this was a problem. Another member of our party ordered prime rib and it was mostly sinewy gristly and inedible. They were kind enough to replace it with another piece, but at that point, the rest of us were done eating and that guest felt uncomfortable and took her food to go, having to enjoy it reheated in our hotel room. I have been coming to Orleans for years and have come to the BNI many many times over the years for dinner either by myself or with my family. I hadn't been in a few years because the last time I was here(maybe 2019-2020) it was disappointing. Well, let me say, THEY ARE BACK! I went early(6ish) and had dinner at the bar. The salmon was divine- so good! And the Wellfleet oysters were wonderful. The couple next to me had the tuna and oysters Rockefeller and loved them. The bartender Mark was lovely, and it was overall a 10+. It was full by 8pm so people must know they are BACK! So go visit them. Oddly, seemed like others who ordered the dish got many whole clams in shell while mine was about half the amount. Inconsistent kitchen process perhaps? Really not how it or the dish should be. The wait staff was was pleasant & helpful. The The conch fritters were tasteless & overcooked. On the other hand the calamari was done perfectly & had a delicious sauce. The plate of shishito peppers was tasty and the volume almost overwhelming The glazed salmon was properly done. I was puzzled that it was served with asparagus when local vegetables are now available. The clam broth was lacking any depth of flavour. The flourless chocolate tart was okay but not great. We've been coming to the BNI for over 20 years and seen it through its many interactions. Some great and some not so. This recent visit was a great surprise which added up to a near perfect experience. The menu is now streamlined with a good number of seasonal items. The previous menus while offering a great variety, were often chaotic and trying to please too many tastes, the current one is simpler with a greater attention to ingredients. The server we had was amazingly attentive while not being overly present. He made some great suggestions but we tended to want a simpler meals so my husband ordered a Cape Cod staple, fish and chips. The fish was perfectly prepared with out a trace of frying grease and the quality of the fish was so much higher than the typical road side fried food houses. The sweet potato fries were perfect as was cole slaw and home made tartar sauce. I had 5 perfect cold shrimp and a basic but nicely assembled Caesar salad. The beer was served in a frozen glass and the 12.00 glass of Bordeaux was fine. We finished off with a Caramel Budino/custard which was killer. If the consistency of this visit remains the BNI will once again be a go to Orleans destination. read more

We had a reservation for 7 but arrived early and were seated promptly. Our server was Christine T and she amazing. Prompt, attentive and appropriately friendly. My wife and I split a bowl of clam chowder and it was good but nothing more. Next we split an order of the Wellfleet Oysters which were absolutely wonderful. Finally we each had a haddock taco. They were huge. The haddock was fresh, hot and fried to perfection. As fish tacos go, they ranked among the best I've had. The live music was a nice touch. We didn't think it was too noisy. We've been coming to this restaurant for 33 years under different ownership. We like the people and the ambiance but last night our food was terrible. The haddock in the fish tacos was like something you'd buy at Costco and warned up. The seared scallops on the Caesar salad were cold and not tasty. We heard some buzz about the PIZZA at the Barley Neck recently, so we tried their plain cheese pizza (around $14 for a large pie) and were very impressed - thin Jersey (or Napoli) style crust, very tasty homemade sauce with fresh basil and just enough cheese. Pickup is super easy and fast. We have gone back twice more with consistent results - is this the best pizza in Orleans? We think so!! read more

We LOVE the Barley Neck! We hosted our rehearsal dinner and welcome party with them in May 2024. Working with Cameron and Emma was an absolute pleasure. From the very beginning, they helped us create a small custom menu so our guests had a choice of their own appetizer, entree and dessert for our sit down dinner. Every option was delicious! From the chowder to the crab cakes, the scampi or Statler chicken, the scallops or steak tips were phenomenal. Our dinner guests loved it all. Once the remaining guests arrived for the welcome party, their team did an excellent job managing 100 people. They served smaller apps and hot stations for those arriving late which made for a great bite throughout the night. The front rooms and new bar were incredibly private and the perfect space for our group event! Our guests loved having the front doors open to escape outside on the lawn for a minute. Love the lobster chili! Smokey slightly salty smooth texture with subtle legumes & succulent chunks of lobster, bacon & a whisper of jalapeño pepper & lovely cilantro finish Calamari salad with lightly battered & fried calamari & light airy kale chips! Yum yum! Seared tuna was done perfectly! and a hearty portion as well, on a bed if rice & topped with seaweed salad. Delicious to gaze at as well as devour. A nice selection of single malt scotch too! I was there with my daughter & grand daughters & all were welcomed. The staff seemed to arrive to service our table at just the right moment. The owner ,Joe, visited every table & talked to all customers. Just like the little restaurants I loved when I lived in NYC. Fair at best. Clam chowder was meh. Linguine and clam sauce was decent. Caesar salad with salmon sucked. The salmon was served raw in the middle so I could only eat the outer portions. Dressing was too salty/fishy. Dessert was a cheesecake out of the box, could definitely skip that. The menu was limited but perhaps this is because we sat at the bar? Bartender was friendly but inattentive. Ex. Weren't given napkins or silverware, had to ask for water and when said water was empty it was never refilled. We were a little disappointed in this restaurant. The appetizer of calamari was awesome; it was a tad spicy, but good! The meat lovers pizza came out raw, and we had to get it sent back to get cooked more. After that, it tasted good. The bolognese pasta was also undercooked; the pasta had quite a bite to it, but it was edible. The lobster roll was good, though small, considering it cost 26 dollars. The fish and chips were also good. We got blue cheese for dipping the fries and it tasted off. The waitress was very nice and attentive. Someone in our party has a nut allergy and they were very understanding and helpful in what he could and could not eat. Also they have a good selection of wine! Overall, disappointed in the restaurant. Some meals were hits and others were missed. It could have just been an off night. read more

Best wings in town which why this place gets 4 stars. It is rather pricey and we typically would visit here when they run a special. They used to have 50 cent wings at the bar at a certain time but got rid of it which was a huge disappointment to my parents. They do well with gluten free food and have options including a gluten free fryer and bun so there is that. The bartenders are usually great and helpful and they often have really good live music whether it be inside or out. Apps and drinks were just o.k. Went with a party of 8 and all of our entrees were pretty awful. I got the Chicken Milanese and I could barely choke it down. Service was also pretty terrible. When I mentioned that I really didn't like my meal, the waitresses response was "do you want it wrapped?" Totally rude. Also it took 20 minutes just to get butter. Not worth the price at all and I will never be going back here again. Night out was ruined. Also there are nude photos hanging in the bathrooms and that's all the kids at the table could talk about.
