I can not recommend this restaurant high enough. We are from the Chicago area and stopped in for breakfast. It was excellent. I could not even finish Josh's favorite breakfast. We took to go items a couple of the muffins and a blueberry/white chocolate scone. These guys/gals made our day. Service was quick and friendly. I'm guessing it was a locals daily ritual. We were happy that one of the guys on the street stopped traffic to let us back the motorhome onto the street safely. Didn't get his name, but he's my personal hero. The food is good, but it is expensive and you have to stand in line to order it. The dining room is small and at lunch time it is crowded. I went there with a group of coworkers. There were about 14 of us and it felt rediculoous having all of us standing in line between the table to order. For that quality of food and those prices, I would have expected to be waited on. read more

The roast beef on rye was a fabulous sandwich. It had mounds of perfectly pink roast beef with a delicious horseradish sauce. The special of the day, grilled cheese with artichoke hearts, was a good sandwich, but was not as appealing as the roast beef. The baked potato soup was yummy as were the accompanying pickles. The thick, flavorful rye toast was a delightful surprise because rye toast is usually either thick or flavorful but rarely both. The Barn Cafe is a family owned and operated restaurant and their dedication to quality is crystal clear. All are friendly, helpful and they make sure you are happy with your meal. The Barn Cafe is Open for breakfast and lunch. Closed Sunday and Monday. The sandwiches look delicious and I hope to get back here to try one. The salad descriptions are creative and inspired. There are delicious looking muffins, scones and other sweet treats. This is a gem of a restaurant. The area has many breakfast/lunch spots but none are as good as the Barn Cafe. I can easily see why this place has so many five star reviews, and allow me to add another one! Walking in downtown Claremont the other day I saw a couple carrying some take out, and I asked them where could I get a really good lunch. They highly recommended the Barn, and fortunately, I was only 50 yards from it. One of the first things I noticed when I walked in was the vibe--wow, this place is cheerful--in a gentle fashion. I was sitting with my back to the counter and what a delight it was listening to the "goings on." Josh, the owner, warmly greeted EVERYONE who walked in, many of whom he knew on a first name basis. And if he doesn't know your name when you walk in, he will after you've been there a bit! My awesome BLT was served with a huge smile in a most timely manner. My good friend and I were so disappointed when the Red Barn Café in Ascutney, VT closed. So when we heard the owners had re-opened in Claremont, NH under the name The Barn Café, we had to go. We were happy to find the quality, quantity and welcoming atmosphere were the same as we had experienced in the Ascutney café. We both had sandwiches - they were large, stuffed full of fresh meats and veggies and served on wonderful bread (try the wheatberry). We are looking forward to going back for breakfast soon. The "Vermonter" was a prior favorite. Josh does not disappoint! So if you are looking for a good breakfast stop or hearty lunch, The Barn Café is the place to go. read more
