I have driven by this place so many times coming back from half moon bay without giving it much thought. However, my coworker recommended this place to me so we decided to give it a try since it was on the way back anyways. The Barn is really cute! Theres an old barn where you can order and pick up food and a beer garden to the side where you can order drinks and food as well. We were pretty full so we just got drinks and the mac attack. The fiance ordered an IPA on tap and I ordered a peach bellini. I was surprised to see that they actually use peach puree before pouring the champagne. The mac attack is so good! It's salty, crunchy, and full of gooey mac and cheese. They also give a side of buttermilk dressing but I think the mac attack is really good on it's own already. I'll definitely be back to try out their burgers next time as I'm super impressed with this place! read more

Eating lunch at The Barn has become our post-pumpkin patch tradition. They have 2 nice outdoor areas in which to sit & eat, and the barn & surroundings are prettily decorated in rustic farmhouse chic. Today was not a great experience. My mom & I stood in line for 45 minutes just to *order* our food. It took another 35 minutes to get our food. Thankfully the kids had eaten snacks just before we arrived & my husband brought a card game we could play to keep the troops from getting restless. Some of the food was actually better than I remember from previous years. My tomato bisque & husband's spinach salad were good. One kiddo's mac & cheese cubes were definitely more delicious than I remember, though the other's burger was only okay. My mom said her BLT was good (she finished it :) The two big minuses were our milkshake was totally melted by the time we got it with our food-more like chunky chocolate milk. And the worst? The thin strip of plastic wrap our younger found nestled into the burger. I know y'all are busy, but come on! Not sure we'd ever come back here, given the ridiculously long wait & plastic wrap burger. So disappointing! read more

Right on HWY1 North of downtown HMB, easy to spot. Outdoor seating only, some seating is covered. Menu isn't huge, but a great variety! I had the Hot Farmer Burger with Paulie's pickled jalapeños and sriracha aioli. Did not disappoint! The meat patty had great flavor & cooked a perfect medium rare, vegetables were fresh and the bun was great! I had a bite of the BBQ PORKWICH, legit BBQ! Big sandwich! The MAC Attack fried mac & cheese sounded great, but didn't live up to the description. The cheese flavor was muted, needed more, sharp cheese! We had vegan jackfruit sandwich and the pretender sandwich with Mac attack side. Jackfruit bbq sandwich was okay. BBQ sauce is not my thing but I didn't hate it. The pretender is a vegetarian sandwich, was very nice. Mac attack- Mac & cheese balls were okay. Place seems a little on pricey side but considering the location they are not that bad. The burgers were perfectly cooked, fries perfectly seasoned and generously packed---price was definitely worth it. The burgers taste fresh, juicy, crunchy in the right places (a light toasted bun+crunchy edges of the patty=decadence like you never imagined). Mimosa got me slightly turnt but still cordial enough to behave myself, super yummy. Cute eating area--the garden and sitting area in front of where you order are such a vibe+outdoor heaters and blankets covering the benches were comforting and such a vibe. Small gravel parking lot next to/behind shop tho. Great, quick, friendly service by the lil lady taking orders and serving up drinks. Came here for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. You order at the counter and then can sit in either one of their outdoor seating areas. I ordered their equivalent of a veggie burger and a side of fries. It was rather delicious flavor-wise but the patty was a bit dry. The fries were decent but nothing special and a little thick for my liking. Ambiance and service was great. My boyfriend loved his burger and sandwich that he ordered so maybe this place is better on the meat side of things. I'd give it a 3/5, but giving a +1 to a 4/5 since he enjoyed it a lot. This is a cute little burger place in Half Moon Bay, perfect for grabbing a bite after a day at the beach. As you can see from the pictures, it has a chic barn-like feel. The indoors is a small area where the kitchen is as well as where you place your order from.  Seating is outdoors, one is right outside the ordering area and is covered, and the other one is in the garden area, also called the beer garden, and is not covered. The seating areas were clean and the tables had fresh flowers, which was kind of nice. We got the Pretender burger (which was their only veggie option) and the Hot Farmer burger. We also got a side of Mac Attack, aka fried mac and cheese. The burgers were pretty good and hearty. I didn't quite like the mac attack. Burgers don't come with fries; you'll need to order them separately, and the food is served in paper containers. Overall, this is a decent burger place, a tad bit pricy. Grilled cheese and burger came out lukewarm bordering cold. Grilled cheese looked deceptively stuff but was basically one slice of cheese and felt hollow. Pumpkin soup did not have any flavor and was very bland. Fries seemed like a leftover dregs and were a bunch of small one-inch pieces. Good ambiance though? We visited this gem on a Thursday afternoon. Not very crowded, but I've heard from locals that it can ge that way. Order at the counter, eat in under the tent at picnics tables (with blankets to cushion be seats!) or take home. Outdoor hand washing station too. Fresh flowers on the tables. We had a variety of food items and they were all amazingly good. House made ketchup and buttermilk dipping sauce. The milkshakes (affogato!) were the best we've had. Thick, homemade vanilla bean whipped cream. So good! A huge menu with lots to choose from. I'd bet they are all good. Standouts that we tried were the grilled cheese, the chili willie, the fried Mac and cheese, and the burger. I can't wait to go here again! My boyfriend surprised me and took me here and we had high hopes. The pictures online made everything look good but we were extremely disappointed. The girl who gave us our food wasn't nice either. We got the pulled pork sandwich with sweet slaw, the barn burger, mac bites, and fries. He said the pork was juicy but it had no sauce so it was dry and the slaw was just cabbage and carrots slapped on. I got the barn burger and for 1/4 lb, I expected it to be kind of small but the patty was smaller than the bread and the lettuce was doused in mayo making the top bun soggy. The mac bites had no seasoning, they tasted like noodles- we couldn't even taste the cheese. It came with ranch but the ranch tasted like sour cream or cream cheese? The only thing that was good was the fries. The decor was meh, we're probably not coming back though. read more

The barn is a great spot for burgers and a casual bite of American cuisine. I like this place. The burgers are nicely done, good flavor, just like their fries! The presentation is fair too. The service was decent. Like many fast food places, you line up to place your order at the counter, get handed a buzzer, look for a table, wait for your order, pick up your order at the pickup counter, then enjoy your your food. Water is self - there's a water station. There's a good amount of people when I came, so I would assume this place is relatively busy. Seating is outdoors and you seat yourself. Finding a table wasn't the easiest, we waited a bit until we had caught a party who were JUST about to leave and waved us over. There was a good about of flies around, which was enough to take my experience down by a star. The casual, rurality of the restaurant comes together with the barn-looking restaurant and the open seating picnic tables. It's quite cute. My husband and I ordered some food to-go from here today (New Years Day) for the first time. I ordered the chicken sandwich and the Mac n cheese bites while my husband had an egg sandwich and french fries. We've been living in the area for just over a year and somehow never noticed this place but I was really excited to give it a try once I saw the photos and rave reviews. My husband and I don't drink, but if you are into beer, dogs, and kids you would likely enjoy the ambiance of this place. Unfortunately, our experience fell a bit flat. The photos I saw of the chicken sandwich showed an ample piece of chicken and ample toppings. That was not the case for me. If I had been fed this with my eyes closed, I could not have told you it was chicken. The whole thing severely lacked flavor, in fact the only flavor I really picked up on was the goat cheese. I was hoping for a redemption with the Mac n cheese bites but those were largely flavorless as well. I tried dipping the Mac bites into the side of ranch for any flavor at all and it had a strange tanginess to it that was off-putting for me. My husband said his fries were just ok but he did enjoy his egg sandwich. For the price point ($18 for the chicken sandwich) I was expecting more. I would consider returning to try the egg sandwich that my husband enjoyed but I wouldn't go out of my way to give this place another try. read more

We decided to taken my new toy for a "Maiden Voyage" to The Barn in Half Moon Bay. This time we brought along our 16 year old soon with a VERY hungry stomach! Our visit was March 7, 2021 during COVID19 pandemic with all the health & Safety precaution taken. We had been to The Barn before and besides our son we invited our friends from Sausalito to join us since it would be their first visit. The weather was a little chilly when we arrived but beautiful blue skies in the low 60s as we arrived 3:30 pm for a late lunch. The Barn burgers always look great...but as a none red meat eater I ordered the grilled "What the Cluck?" Sandwich. It's a grilled chicken breast on a toasted ciabatta roll with Aioli & arugula. Very good! Others ordered a Hot Farmer and a Barn Burger with cheese, Aioli, crispy onions and avo. My son loved the burger! We ordered a "Storm" side which a "must have" for this picnic table dining experience, it includes French fries topped with several cubes of fried Mac & Cheese. It was a hit too! There is a Beer Garden with it Bar with was cash only with an assortment or sodas, beers and wines. The service at both the bar and counter were very nice If you are in HMB get to The Barn! read more

Oh no! They're closed for a long winter nap! According to the website, they will reopen on January 13th!! Whew! I'm glad it's still open for business. This restaurant had great food and fun outdoor dining! Ok, I just had a burger and fries. So what?? That burger kicked ass! The Barn Burger looks so simple with lettuce, tomatoes, and caramelized onions, but it's so goooooooood. Maybe because the caramelized onions add a sweet punch to the burger. Or maybe because they used 100% grass-fed beef. We asked for medium-well, and it was cooked perfectly. You know, grass-fed beef is from happy cows!!! The "One Size Hand Cut Fries" was so good that I wish we ordered more. Good job for putting the right amount of salt! The Beer Garden in October was fun and whimsical with different sized pumpkins all around. There were Disney and other friendly cartoon characters. It's definitely a kid-friendly ambiance. There was also a tent with pretty lights above and outside heaters. I would definitely come back here when they're awake from their nap. There are many other interesting things on the menu I'd like to try, like 'What the Cluck", "BBQ Porkwich," and the milkshakes. We finally got to check out the adorable burger barn that you drive by on the 1 and think "that place is cute - I want to check it out." Heading back north from Half Moon Bay, we took a left into their back parking lot to try it out. We waited in line right at opening. I ordered "The Pretender" - veggie burger with plumped farro and mushrooms, garlic, flax and parmesan, topped with white cheddar cheese, tomatoes, mayo and lemon dressed arugula. It was decent but not my favorite veggie burger of all time. The farro gave it a large grainy texture. My partner ordered the Dirty Dog, which was delicious. The standout was the sides. The Mac Attack is literally four giant deep fried cubes of mac n cheese. And the shoestring fries taste like they have sugar on them (not complaining). Unfortunately, due to COVID, their cute outdoor beer garden was closed so we had a picnic in the parking lot. Overall, it was a nice stop along Hwy 1. read more

OVERALL: I always drove by here and wanted to come. It looks so cute from the outside. One friend told me they didn't like it but I wanted to try still and am glad I did! They're expensive for what they give you but the burger was very good. FOOD: My burger was very good. I had a basic burger and added some additions. Cooked well, good flavor. I wish it were a bit larger for the price and came with something like fries. My friend had the fried Mac and cheese, which was very different than I expected. It's like Mac and cheese tots. He liked it. SPACE: Much smaller than anticipated. There is a good amount of outdoor seating, which is a nice option being on the coast. We had a really lovely time yesterday at The Barn. We've been cruising down Highway 1 from Pacifica for years and finally we drove past when this place was open! My partner and I split the BLT, Barn Dog, Fries, a Cappuccino, Velvet Glow Lager & a La Croix. Our bill was about $55 after tip, definitely on the higher end for lunch for 2 people... but understandable with all the things we ordered + inflation. The real disappointment was our fries. I was excited to see "hand cut Kennebec" fries on the menu, but was ultimately let down. Not sure if this is standard or we unluckily got the bottom of the bin... but our bag was filled with mostly small ends and pieces. No long French fries in sight. Really disappointing at $7 an order. We'll have to give it another try because the outdoor setting is lovely and we really enjoyed both the BLT & Barn Dog. It does appear that the prices have gone up 1-2 dollars per item with the new ownership, and the overall price for lunch will probably keep me from being a regular patron for now. I saw this place on instagram and I just knew I had to go. Since it is fall, they have their festive decorations around the barn: pumpkins, gourds, and everything orange! This place is ADORABLE!!! Moving on to the food...I only have good things to say. Their mac and cheese nuggets are a MUST; so crispy and cheesy inside (they are homemade too like all of the other items on the menu). Their fries were thin, crispy and a little sweet too (they were perfect)! My friends and I got different sandwiches and loved all of them. You really can't go wrong with any menu item here. There is a lot of cute outdoor seating too! They have wooden benches as well as the clear tent in the front. Our food did take some time to come out, but then again, you have to realize they make everything to order (it's all so fresh tasting). Parking was very easy and the workers are friendly!
