    Crab Melt
    Erich L.

Nice seafood restaurant with Hawaii style decor inside. Tried a crab melt with salad, cup of clam chowder and salmon tostada salad. Everything was excellent! They use an electronic tablet for payment donuts paperless. Great restaurant choice just at the end of the downtown. They have a parking lot in the back.

Came back here and it's still good- not great but I left content. Service is average and restaurant has a lot of dining areas as I wandered and was lost. Good enough for a meal leaving HMB that is not as crowded and all the others spots...hmm maybe this is a hidden gem??

The service here was quite slow. It took a while to get seated and to catch the attention of a waiter to place our order, but that seemed to be due to being understaffed rather than poor service. So, it's not ideal if you're in a hurry or on the go. We ordered the shrimp carbonara and the mahi mahi taco plate with rice and beans. The taco plate was a good value at $20 - filling, though a little on the bland side. The carbonara, on the other hand, was excellent - super creamy and delicious, and I'd definitely order it again. Overall, it's not a bad spot if you're in Half Moon Bay and hungry.

Was looking for lunch recommendations from ChatGPT and this restaurant came up on top for its seafood tacos and fish & chips (apparently rated #9 best in America by The Daily Meal). We started with the clam chowder, which was decent. Then moved onto crab melt sandwich was perfectly crisp, but didn't wow us. We opted for 3 tacos solo ($7.50 each) to save $3 since we didn't need the extra rice, beans, fries, or salad: Cod taco - uses the same fish as the fish & chips, so it felt redundant. Mahi Mahi taco - two generous pieces of grilled fish with mango salsa; tasty but not memorable. Coconut shrimp taco - two shrimp with mango salsa; nicely crisp but could have used a squeeze of lemon for extra zing. Finally, the fish & chips were indeed the highlight but the portion was tiny, leaving us a little underwhelmed. We skipped the recommended homemade devil's slide expresso pie and key lime pie since we brought our own birthday cake but since the restaurant charges a $2 per-person cake-cutting fee, we decided to have it at the beach instead. Nothing stood out enough to make it worth going out of your way.

Such a cute spot right off the 92 before you hit the main road of half moon bay. The staff was attentive, sweet and courteous. They gave off mom & pop vibes which was so charming and refreshing! The food was delicious. Is it weird that the coleslaw was absolutely amazing?! It had pineapple and was delicious. All the food was fresh, not oily or soggy. The outdoor dining area was very cute with shady and sunny spots. They were pup-friendly too! Definitely recommend coming here away from the crowds at Sam's Chowder House when I want a nice quality meal in Half Moon Bay.

My family and I came here after an afternoon at Harley Farms. We hadn't eaten all day and were starving! We were seated very quickly. Our server was also very quick to take our order! The crab cheesy garlic bread was my favorite! Perfect amount of grab and delicious garlic flavor! I could have eaten a whole one by myself. The calamari is also very good! I really enjoyed their dipping sauce. I got the Jeaux Special. I would ask for less sauce next time as the food was drowning in it. But all the seafood was cooked very well! And it came with three good size scallops (my favorite) along with some fish, calamari, and shrimp. My husband and mom enjoyed their burger and crab melt. The clam chowder is also a must! We each got a bowl to start. It's the perfect mixture of creamy and brothy. Not too heavy at all! And a good amount of potato and clam! We will definitely be returning.

Had lunch @ Flying Fish & Grill on a recent daycation. We got there at 11:30 and were the only diners in the restaurant. Service was good, though I would have thought they'd be more attentive since the place was literally empty except for us (party of 2). I had the fish sandwich; my husband got the clam chowder bowl. I'd say his chowder was marginally better than the fish sandwich, but both were tasty. I appreciate that the ciabatti roll was toasted, but felt it could have done with more carmelized onions (I think there were 6 small pieces). I got the tartar sauce on the side, but my fish and bread still fell apart quickly and I ended up eating the pieces with a fork. The tartar sauce was yummy; they used copious amounts of dill and there was no pickle relish in evidence. I don't normally eat cole slaw, but I'm not a thick french fry girl, so it seemed like the better option. It was surprisingly delicious; I loved the addition of dried cranberries. I don't get to HMB often, but would eat here again if I'm in the neighborhood. I probably wouldn't make a special trip to dine here, though.

Saw the amazing reviews and menu stated ranked #9 in USA for fish & chips... I had to verify this. The meals are very filling and shareable. The salmon blt is delicious if you are a fan of salmon as it is strong in taste. Chicken sandwich delicious we got the bbq on the side. Fish and chips were amazing , flakey and tasty. Dip the tartar sauce. Yummo

The best coleslaw, it had cranberry sprinkled on top, crunchy cabbage, slivers of apple. Dressing was not overwhelming. I had fish and chips. I was given a choice to have both coleslaw and French fries. Woohoo. French fries were thick, crunchy outside and soft inside.Really good. Fish was meaty and coating batter was thin. I also had a choice of 2 pieces or 3. My stomach was on empty so 3 it was. Plus tip, total $29. 3% fee for using credit card. Had it to-go but stomach needed to be fed so I ate outside in the sun at the entrance, it's pretty dark inside with a full bar. It's a big place inside. Pretty extensive menu.

The star is for the food. 2pm on a Sunday. Not busy. The host is literally running around. Trying to seat people, clean tables, serving waters, etc. I ordered a house white wine, cup of clam chowder, and the crab melt with fries (with a side of ranch). The wine was cold, but not worth $9. The cup of chowder was delivered by a kind gentleman that was also bussing tables. I noticed that he was the king of delivering all the chowders. A family of 8 sat down behind me. As I ate my chowder. The entire family ate and left before I got my meal. Got my crab melt, salad and a side of ranch. What? I ate a few bites of the melt. Waited to be checked on. I got up and got my own Togo boxes. The water glass sweat down the table into my lap. The machine to pay was placed in the water. The plastic bag I needed was also placed in the water. I came home and ate the salad. The salad had: arugula, bell peppers, tomatoes, pickled onions and some dried out cucumber. The vinaigrette made this salad amazing! Loved the variety of vegetables. The crab melt was great. The tomato was 100% fresh. No soggy bread. I have none eaten the rest today for lunch. The mix was a bit heavy on celery, but still enjoyed it.

    Crabby cheesy garlic bread
    Yang Q.

Efficient service, good food. We went on a weekday during lunch so it wasn't busy at all. Between 2 people, we shared the crabby cheesy garlic bread, the fish n chips, and the salmon BLT. Unpopular opinion since everyone raves about it, but I actually thought the crabby cheesy garlic bread was something I could've skipped. It wasn't bad--it was topped with a good portion of crab and tasted very fresh, but I guess I imagine buttery, cheesy decadence when I think of garlic bread and this was too light in flavor for me. I probably would've enjoyed the plain cheesy garlic bread more. The fish n chips were nicely battered and crispy, and the batter didn't come off the entire piece of fish with the first bite (a pet peeve with anything battered and fried). I also liked the thick-cut fries. The salmon BLT was my favorite item--the salmon and focaccia both tasted fresh, and the creaminess from the avocado and aioli tied everything together well. For my side, I got the house salad since we already had fries. It was nothing to write home about, but their selection of dressing options was more extensive than I expected (more than your usual ranch/Italian/thousand island).

Came here with fam on Sat for dinner. We ordered one of our favorite Fish and Chips with tartar sauce and Coleslaw, Ceviche, and Clam Chowder. The Fish and Chips are so moist and crispy. It's the best! Loved it so much :) The rest of the dishes are decent too. Great customer service.

    Crab cheese bread. Super rich!

3.5 stars. Solid food options, and they do have crab cheesy bread which is cool and different, but I wasn't necessarily blown away and feel like I have to come back. Swung by after a day on the coast for some warm food. It was Sunday around 1pm, not busy at all. We got seated once someone saw us in the doorway. Menu is your pretty standard fare and this place had some good options to warm us up. One person got the fish and chips, another got the fish sandwich, and then two of us got the clam chowder. We also split a crab cheesy bread which I hadn't seen before and I was very excited to try. It is very good and VERY rich. It's like eating the Alfredo sauce from Olive Garden on bread with lots of crab meat. Good! but I could only have two pieces before I felt the heartburn coming on.. The clam chowder was good. Not the best I've had, but it did the job to warm me up and I have no real complaints. You can get it in a bread bowl but I went with a normal bowl since we were already getting bread in a different form. The serving sizes felt very plentiful and big for the price paid. My friend with the fish sandwich couldn't finish it all. The chips part (thick cut fries like steak fries) of the fish and chips were shared among the group. Solid choice for the group and not a bad stop if you're driving by.

I found Barbara's on Yelp--solid 4-star rating, good reviews, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived and were told there was about a 20-minute wait, which felt reasonable for a weekend seafood spot. Once we were seated, things started off fine, but the experience quickly became a bit frustrating. There seemed to be a breakdown in communication with our server regarding our order. We placed everything clearly, but when the food came out, it wasn't what we had ordered. Instead of just clarifying or correcting it, we were told the order had been placed incorrectly on our side and were asked to reorder. Unfortunately, we were also still charged for the original order, which made the situation feel even more confusing. We also ordered the clam chowder, which was honestly disappointing. From the very first spoonful to the last, there was a consistent gritty, sandy texture that made it difficult to enjoy at all. It took away from what is usually a comfort dish, especially in a coastal town where you expect it to shine. On a positive note, our timing coincided with sunset, and the view from the window was absolutely stunning. Watching the sun dip over the water while dining added a really beautiful moment to the experience, and the scenery itself was honestly the highlight of the visit. The setting itself is nice and the location is convenient if you're exploring Half Moon Bay, but based on our experience, the execution on both service and food quality didn't match the expectations set by the rating. Overall, it felt like a missed opportunity. With a bit more attention to order accuracy and consistency in the kitchen, this place could easily live up to its Yelp reputation--but unfortunately, that wasn't our experience that day.

Curious about what the new/old place is like, our three-person family went there for a late breakfast today. Walking up to the front doors, the original inset stained glass remains. Walking in, the cool wood paneling and nautical decor remains in place with a couple of new touches. The fully appointed bar also remains, now with a more streamlined look with subtle lighting changes. We were greeted pleasantly and seated inside the dining room immediately; it was moderately busy and buzzing, not too loud. Our server was quick to our table, menu-knowledgeable and consistent in his attention to us. We had a Denver omelette, a couple of bennies and lemon ricotta pancakes to share. My omelette had particularly fresh and al fresca peppers and onions - wonderful. The lemon ricotta pancakes were sufficiently saturated and fluffy(hard to pull off)and came with fresh cream. The prices were at about the same level as the local competition, which pleasantly surprised us. It appears that the folks who did this breakfast/lunch reboot were shrewd in pricing their dishes. Jetty Wave, a drinks and appetizers adventure(which I heartily recommend as well for different reasons)in the northwestern part of Princeton, is not for the fiscally faint hearted. The only element that makes our experience short of a 5 is that we were not given a farewell when we left, though I was able to find our friendly server and thanked him. In all, the Joanne's legacy is intact - the old carved wood Ketch Joanne sign still hangs inside - literally and figuratively a homage to its legacy while bringing a new energy to this space. We stopped by for lunch on a crisp day, and it completely captured that perfect coastal vibe--think fresh seafood, laid-back atmosphere, and killer views of the boats and water. The New England-style clam chowder was rich, creamy, with just the right subtle smokiness and balanced seasoning--definitely lives up to Half Moon Bay's chowder reputation. For mains, the Dungeness crab sandwich was the star: generous lumps of sweet local crab, minimal sauce (just how I like it), on toasted sourdough with fries on the side. My partner went with the fish and chips, and the cod was crispy, flaky, and not greasy at all--classic done right. The outdoor patio with fire pits was cozy even in cooler weather, and our server was super friendly, attentive, and full of local recommendations.
