Flying Fish Grill has good seafood at reasonable prices. We had a prawn salad and a 4 taco plate. You get to choose from cod, salmon, shrimp or scallop tacos! I had two scallop, one salmon and one cod. The salmon was too dry but the cod and scallop tacos were great. The rice and beans didn't look like much but they were actually very tasty. If you don't need a ocean view this is a great spot for some seafood.

Salmon was fresh and tasted great. Jeaux Special was ok. If you want to cut your carbs this is a good place to go because they do not offer you a basket of bread and the amount of pasta they give you in the Jeaux Special is so little that would not be enough to even fed a kid. It was a Wednesday but they did not give us the 10% off for Local Wednesdays If I have to think of one thing to go back again is the female owner was nice.

I was really looking forward to dining here. The seafood Pasta was lackluster. The presentation was bad, all the seafood was hidden, I had pulled it to the top for the photo. It had watery bland white sauce and they added caramelized onions?! Which was not listed on the menu nor did compliment the dish. Seafood itself was good. We had the Boneless pork ribs as an appetizer, it was very tasty but pretty generic. As for the Clam chowder bread bowl it was very thick and creamy, pretty good flavor. Definitely not homemade vibes but it was satisfying. Not sure I'd return:/

Nice seafood restaurant with Hawaii style decor inside. Tried a crab melt with salad, cup of clam chowder and salmon tostada salad. Everything was excellent! They use an electronic tablet for payment donuts paperless. Great restaurant choice just at the end of the downtown. They have a parking lot in the back.

Came back here and it's still good- not great but I left content. Service is average and restaurant has a lot of dining areas as I wandered and was lost. Good enough for a meal leaving HMB that is not as crowded and all the others spots...hmm maybe this is a hidden gem??

The service here was quite slow. It took a while to get seated and to catch the attention of a waiter to place our order, but that seemed to be due to being understaffed rather than poor service. So, it's not ideal if you're in a hurry or on the go. We ordered the shrimp carbonara and the mahi mahi taco plate with rice and beans. The taco plate was a good value at $20 - filling, though a little on the bland side. The carbonara, on the other hand, was excellent - super creamy and delicious, and I'd definitely order it again. Overall, it's not a bad spot if you're in Half Moon Bay and hungry.

Was looking for lunch recommendations from ChatGPT and this restaurant came up on top for its seafood tacos and fish & chips (apparently rated #9 best in America by The Daily Meal). We started with the clam chowder, which was decent. Then moved onto crab melt sandwich was perfectly crisp, but didn't wow us. We opted for 3 tacos solo ($7.50 each) to save $3 since we didn't need the extra rice, beans, fries, or salad: Cod taco - uses the same fish as the fish & chips, so it felt redundant. Mahi Mahi taco - two generous pieces of grilled fish with mango salsa; tasty but not memorable. Coconut shrimp taco - two shrimp with mango salsa; nicely crisp but could have used a squeeze of lemon for extra zing. Finally, the fish & chips were indeed the highlight but the portion was tiny, leaving us a little underwhelmed. We skipped the recommended homemade devil's slide expresso pie and key lime pie since we brought our own birthday cake but since the restaurant charges a $2 per-person cake-cutting fee, we decided to have it at the beach instead. Nothing stood out enough to make it worth going out of your way.

Such a cute spot right off the 92 before you hit the main road of half moon bay. The staff was attentive, sweet and courteous. They gave off mom & pop vibes which was so charming and refreshing! The food was delicious. Is it weird that the coleslaw was absolutely amazing?! It had pineapple and was delicious. All the food was fresh, not oily or soggy. The outdoor dining area was very cute with shady and sunny spots. They were pup-friendly too! Definitely recommend coming here away from the crowds at Sam's Chowder House when I want a nice quality meal in Half Moon Bay.

My family and I came here after an afternoon at Harley Farms. We hadn't eaten all day and were starving! We were seated very quickly. Our server was also very quick to take our order! The crab cheesy garlic bread was my favorite! Perfect amount of grab and delicious garlic flavor! I could have eaten a whole one by myself. The calamari is also very good! I really enjoyed their dipping sauce. I got the Jeaux Special. I would ask for less sauce next time as the food was drowning in it. But all the seafood was cooked very well! And it came with three good size scallops (my favorite) along with some fish, calamari, and shrimp. My husband and mom enjoyed their burger and crab melt. The clam chowder is also a must! We each got a bowl to start. It's the perfect mixture of creamy and brothy. Not too heavy at all! And a good amount of potato and clam! We will definitely be returning.

Had lunch @ Flying Fish & Grill on a recent daycation. We got there at 11:30 and were the only diners in the restaurant. Service was good, though I would have thought they'd be more attentive since the place was literally empty except for us (party of 2). I had the fish sandwich; my husband got the clam chowder bowl. I'd say his chowder was marginally better than the fish sandwich, but both were tasty. I appreciate that the ciabatti roll was toasted, but felt it could have done with more carmelized onions (I think there were 6 small pieces). I got the tartar sauce on the side, but my fish and bread still fell apart quickly and I ended up eating the pieces with a fork. The tartar sauce was yummy; they used copious amounts of dill and there was no pickle relish in evidence. I don't normally eat cole slaw, but I'm not a thick french fry girl, so it seemed like the better option. It was surprisingly delicious; I loved the addition of dried cranberries. I don't get to HMB often, but would eat here again if I'm in the neighborhood. I probably wouldn't make a special trip to dine here, though.

In the mood for fresh Salmon?
    Saurabh S.

A hidden gem for Fresh Seafood lovers. Flying Fish Grill in Half Moon Bay has become my go-to spot whenever I'm craving truly fresh seafood. The salmon here is absolutely outstanding-you can taste the difference that fresh and notable Chef makes. It's cooked to perfection with a beautifully seared exterior and tender, flaky interior that practically melts in your mouth. The sizing portion is also large to make it worthy of your drive. What really sets this restaurant apart is the commitment to healthy, flavorful cuisine. Everything tastes clean and fresh, with ingredients that clearly haven't been sitting around. The menu offers plenty of options for health-conscious diners without sacrificing any of the delicious flavors you'd expect from a coastal seafood restaurant. A high thank you to Bobby who was our server and was able to orchestrate both the salmon and clam chowder with the Chef to perfection. The atmosphere is casual Hawaii-an-esque and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed dinner after exploring the coast. The staff, such as Bobby is knowledgeable and friendly, always happy to make recommendations or explain the daily catch. Even the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream was super delicious. Please note all of the fish is caught nearby in the Ocean and not shipped frozen in a boat or plane. If you're in Half Moon Bay and looking for exceptional seafood that's both delicious and good for you, Flying Fish Grill is an absolute must-visit. The salmon alone is worth the trip, but you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu.

Saw the amazing reviews and menu stated ranked #9 in USA for fish & chips... I had to verify this. The meals are very filling and shareable. The salmon blt is delicious if you are a fan of salmon as it is strong in taste. Chicken sandwich delicious we got the bbq on the side. Fish and chips were amazing , flakey and tasty. Dip the tartar sauce. Yummo

The best coleslaw, it had cranberry sprinkled on top, crunchy cabbage, slivers of apple. Dressing was not overwhelming. I had fish and chips. I was given a choice to have both coleslaw and French fries. Woohoo. French fries were thick, crunchy outside and soft inside.Really good. Fish was meaty and coating batter was thin. I also had a choice of 2 pieces or 3. My stomach was on empty so 3 it was. Plus tip, total $29. 3% fee for using credit card. Had it to-go but stomach needed to be fed so I ate outside in the sun at the entrance, it's pretty dark inside with a full bar. It's a big place inside. Pretty extensive menu.

I typically get their fish and chips but decided to their tuna melt sandwich with fries, along with their fried mushrooms (MY FAV). OMG so much tuna on that perfect roll. BUT their cole slaw is our all time favorite - so fresh and flavorful. next time I'm getting extra!! The kids got the cajun fish sandwich and the bay shrimp sandwich. you definitely need to add lemon and sauce to the bay shrimp sandwich - oldest said she liked my tuna over her bay shrimp.... Wish they provided more mushrooms though - i should've order two! LOL Our all time favorite place to come eat when we are in the area! OH and their clam chowder. Curious about what the new/old place is like, our three-person family went there for a late breakfast today. Walking up to the front doors, the original inset stained glass remains. Walking in, the cool wood paneling and nautical decor remains in place with a couple of new touches. The fully appointed bar also remains, now with a more streamlined look with subtle lighting changes. We were greeted pleasantly and seated inside the dining room immediately; it was moderately busy and buzzing, not too loud. Our server was quick to our table, menu-knowledgeable and consistent in his attention to us. We had a Denver omelette, a couple of bennies and lemon ricotta pancakes to share. My omelette had particularly fresh and al fresca peppers and onions - wonderful. The lemon ricotta pancakes were sufficiently saturated and fluffy(hard to pull off)and came with fresh cream. The prices were at about the same level as the local competition, which pleasantly surprised us. It appears that the folks who did this breakfast/lunch reboot were shrewd in pricing their dishes. Jetty Wave, a drinks and appetizers adventure(which I heartily recommend as well for different reasons)in the northwestern part of Princeton, is not for the fiscally faint hearted. The only element that makes our experience short of a 5 is that we were not given a farewell when we left, though I was able to find our friendly server and thanked him. In all, the Joanne's legacy is intact - the old carved wood Ketch Joanne sign still hangs inside - literally and figuratively a homage to its legacy while bringing a new energy to this space. The New England-style clam chowder was rich, creamy, with just the right subtle smokiness and balanced seasoning--definitely lives up to Half Moon Bay's chowder reputation. For mains, the Dungeness crab sandwich was the star: generous lumps of sweet local crab, minimal sauce (just how I like it), on toasted sourdough with fries on the side. My partner went with the fish and chips, and the cod was crispy, flaky, and not greasy at all--classic done right. Tourist Trap or Worth the Trip?…read more Worth the stop -- with a few caveats. I stopped by The Fisherman's Taverna in Half Moon Bay, and honestly? I really enjoyed what I ordered. The clam chowder was a highlight -- rich, creamy, and served in a classic sourdough bowl that's practically a Bay Area rite of passage. Each bite had a nib of buttery flavor that made me keep going back for more. Purist bakers might cringe at sourdough being hollowed out and flooded with chowder, but in the moment -- as the afternoon fog crept in -- it felt just right. The "prawn" cocktail was a bit of a mislead -- the shrimp technically qualify as prawns, but don't expect jumbo-sized crustaceans. Still, they were fresh and paired well with my Corona Light. One quirky detail: you have to serve your own soft drinks. It caught me off guard at first, but walking behind the counter and filling my own cup with sweet orange Fanta ended up being a weirdly charming part of the experience. The only real letdown was the lack of available fresh seafood. Dungeness crab? Out. Ceviche? Out. Clams? Also out. Most of the "fresh catch" menu was unavailable, which left mostly fried options and chowder. A bummer if you came craving the real coastal fare. Final Thoughts: It toes the line between tourist stop and local hangout. While it may not deliver the full fresh seafood spread, if you manage expectations, grab a bowl of chowder, and soak in the coastal vibe -- it's still a satisfying experience.
