This is a good place for coffee, PBR, or artisan small batch free range organic grass fed free trade shade grown hooch. It's a classic hipster habitat, but don't let that scare you away. Yes, all of the staff exhibits hipsterlicious pieces of flair including (but not limited to) handlebar mustaches, knuckle tattoos, preposterous beards, glasses, and generalized aloofness. There may be a portal to Southeast Portland buried underneath it. They serve Water Avenue Coffee, which is both awesome and not super common. And they know how to make coffee both reasonably quickly and reasonably well. Prices are good, and their munchies are good, too. Come early, though. This place gets invaded by the laptop-afflicted quickly. read more

Cute little spot! I popped in for coffee and a lil breakfast sammy the first weekend I had visited here. Chatted with the gal behind the bar about things to do in Eugene and she was super sweet. Definitely need to come back for a cocktail or three, seems like this place is "my vibe" where I could meet a few new like-minded friends. Best coffee in town. I go pretty much daily. I don't understand the anti-hipster hate. They're all nice folks. Just don't order a s'mores Frapacino. You're a grown up. That's a milkshake. If you want a milkshake get a milkshake. Coffee requires a grinder, not a blender. The Stumptown coffee is incredible, the lunch is pretty darn good, and the drinks aren't bad at all. If you're self conscious about "hipsters" with plaid shirts, beards, and tight jeans, lighten up. Once I stepped inside, I felt like I was going into my grandpa's basement...or my Uncle Jim's lakeside cabin during the winter. And I mean that in a totally cool way. It has that old, vintage, cozy aesthetic that's just, heartwarming. Think: wood, vintage, dim lighting and decor. It's a wonderful addition to the changing downtown scene. I'm hoping these new establishments will last the test of time and stay alive for the long haul...because the Eug needs it. You can tell the owners put a lot of thought and time into making this place different than any other place in Eug, with the ambiance and decor, and I appreciate that. If you couldn't tell by the look of the bartenders or the decor that this place is trying to draw in hipsters, just take a look at the cocktail menu. They actually have a cocktail with PBR. And it sucks. Quite bitter. Though at least you get the rest of the PBR can with it! The coffee they serve during the day is WAY too sour, Portland style. Overextracted. I much prefer an Italian style bitter roast. The food menu is so-so. The frito pie was essentially what you might make at home: Fritos, bit of chili, and some cheese. Nothing special and not a particularly large portion. We tried to order two other things, don't remember what, but they were out. Oh well. While the food and drinks are a little disappointing, the bartenders are friendly, and they have two huge, comfy armchairs in the back where you can sit and work or chat. The crowd seems pretty good too, sometimes very hipster-heavy, but during the day and earlier in the evening I found it to be a pretty standard Eugene crowd. The atmosphere is welcoming with just the right level of light in the evening to sit comfortably and have a private conversation with friends, while still being able to meet new people. read more

Thursday night karaoke! This is no trashy karaoke dive - a LOT of quality performers here, and everyone spectates. It gets pretty packed during karaoke, and becomes mostly standing room. Yum! My chicken salad sandwich is delicious - from the bread all the way to the filling! My order came with chips, some yummy macaroon type thingies and some (wow) pickles I haven't had the likes of since I left Alabama 10 years ago. I like the ambiance and the friendly servers. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the $6 sandwich was a bit on the skimpy side - I wanted about 3 more bites because it tasted so good! Parking was a bear to deal with on a Sunday early afternoon, but that's probably normal for downtown. The food was pretty good, but they didn't have a very extensive menu. This is a little piece of Portland planted in Eugene, and it's very welcome as far as I'm concerned. Great big space, wifi, really good espresso, happy hour deals and food. The food is a touch on the pricey side for what you get but the sandwiches are really good. Surprisingly few vegetarian options, but overall a great place with nice ambience. read more

The Barn Light is currently my favorite spot in Eugene to grab high-quality (Stumptown) coffee in the morning, and a craft cocktail in the evening (in my case today...early afternoon). I'm a huge fan of their coffee-glazed bacon, which is fabulous on their breakfast sandwich with cheddar and an IMPOSSIBLY fluffy egg. Today however, the bacon on my TBA is overcooked and tastes burnt :( Maybe their morning chef is more skilled in the art of bacon sizzling. Sipping now: a "Freshen Up" cocktail w/ house-infused cucumber vodka, ginger soda, sage bitters... very light, refreshing (obviously) and super cucumbery. I like. I have to give TBL huge props on the side salad. My salad is actually a perfect size rather than being a depressing little stack of 5 pieces of lettuce. This is a salad that takes me more than 2 bites to consume. read more

This bar is a breath of fresh aire, and a wonderful alternative to the sleazy, fist-pumping, pukey bars of campus. If you're a student, and value conversation, board games, good music, and classy drinks, the barn light is a good place to meet friends at night, then drink a coffee and do some reading the next morning. I've heard lots of people talk down to the younger hip vibe of the bar, but I really love that the place took time and values art and ambiance. A great place to bring out-of-towners to start the night in a new and improved downtown Eugene. read more

Well I've always loved the Barn Light, but it's become an increasingly expensive place to get a drink. I just can't be okay with a 6 dollar beer in Eugene. 6 dollars is expensive for a beer in Portland. I also take issue with their shot and a beer menu. You'd think a full shot and a small beer or a small shot and a full beer for 10 bucks, but it's a small beer and a quarter of a shot. It almost seems like they're just trying to cash in on their trendy ness rather than charging the going rate for things. I'd love to go more, but it's becoming a moral and economic dilemma. read more

I came here with a friend for drinks and wasn't super impressed, nor was I super disappointed. It was a hot day by Eugene standards, and the interior of the Barn Light was nice and cool. They've got a place where you can play games like shuffle board, which makes this place slightly more interesting than your average Eugene bar. However, I'd sooner go to Level Up than come back here, since Level Up has better games, better drinks, and better prices. $7 for a tiny beer is not worth it when I could easily go elsewhere in town and get more beer for my buck! read more

When this place opened I got all excited since the owners were from Lawrence, KS. The owners used to work/run my favorite coffee bar in Lawrence called the Bourgeois Pig. These guys brought that nice screw you attitude to Eugene. I always thought the bartenders at the Pig acted like I was lucky to have the honor of paying them for their service. The same can be said about Barn Light. After all, my martini was served in a juice glass with an eye roll instead of a smile. I'm too old now to find this kind of thing endearing. Four star average for this place? Lol. Only in the Willlamette Valley. Watered down stale beer sold at pint prices in shady glasses that are way under a pint. Over priced (and often stale) food. Don't know anything about their coffee but there are definitely options nearby. This place will go under as soon as the baby boomers who own Keasey Square open a food court. Guarenteed.
