I hate giving not so great ratings, however this place has probably the worst food I e had in a longgggg while. We ordered calamari for an appetizer and you could tell that it was frozen already made calamari from restaurant Depot or at least somewhere along those lines. We both ordered half chicken with a baked potato and veggies. Also not so yummy. I'm honestly assuming that this place merely exists dueto them having a liquor license. Classic good food with old style ambiance of a 200+ year old barn. Great ribs and burgers and the steak was good too. Salads the barn was excellent and the service was fast and friendly. The mussels in red sauce with fresh garlic are alone worth the trip. Prices are excellent especially for Northern Bergen County. My grand kids, kids and wife also like the Barn. The fresh made potato chips are excellent as are the french fries. I have never heard Ely the owner say a bad word to a customer and if he did then the customer must have insulted another customer or staff. What is The Barn you ask? Well that's exactly what it is, an old barn. You don't come here for the decor, the refined service, or elegant china. What you do come here for is amazing food, great cocktails, brought to you by a great guy. The owner is almost always there, and really takes pride in the place. I've been here twice, it has such a cute atmosphere! Its never too crowded, the decor is great, they're always showing a baseball game, but it is pretty cold so bring a sweater. I would definitely say its a bar and I'd come here for bar food. A great selection of wines and beers, and all of the appetizers are AMAZING. We got the zuchinni sticks, the nachos, and the ribs (twice!) everything is phenomenal but the main courses fall short. The sandwiches and burgers have more bread than anything and its just not very inpressive. The salads werent too impressive either. Rudest Restaurant Owner Around While in northern NJ last weekend we visited the barn for a family get together. We had called in advance to let them know we had a party of 13. We arrived at The Barn before the dinner rush and were seated quickly. Our waitress was friendly and brought out our drinks in an average amount of time. About 10 minutes after dinner was served the restaurant owner came over to the table (which was about 4 tables long for our large party) and asked who made the reservations. He kept pointing his finger at each person asking "did you make the reservation?" Finally my cousin who in fact made the reservation noticed him and replied that she had. At this point he stated, "next time you make a reservation, please give us the correct number of people in your party. You only have 10 people and your reservation was for 13. I have people waiting and I could have used one of your tables." My cousin replied that the other people canceled last minute and why hadn't the owner asked us when we ordered if anyone else was coming? As it was, we had one person in a wheelchair and there was no way we could have squeezed into an area with one less table anyway. My mother-in-law proceeded to call the owner out on his rude attitude. He continued to raise his voice and never came back to apologize after the fact. It was very unprofessional and I can only imagine what the other customers thought at that point. On top of that outrageous unprofessional-ism, none of us received our salads when the appetizers came out. Instead they brought out our salads with our meals. I personally ordered the open face steak sandwich. It was overcooked, and tasteless. I would not recommend the food or the service to anyone. At least there was no way for them to screw up the Sam Adams Octoberfest. That was the best part of the meal for me. read more

If you live in Wyckoff, you have to love The Barn. Fortunately, it's easy! There is so much character in the building, and so much nostalgia--everyone who has lived in the area has gone here since they were a child. It's also not unusual to run into neighbors and friends here on any night of the week. The Barn appeals to the sentimental consumer. The food is good--typical bar/grill food. I always order the Garden Burger; which is not actually a vegetarian burger, but rather one topped with caramelized onions and mushrooms. The french fries are exceptional--hand-cut, very fresh, and crispy. The one time I indulge on fries is ALWAYS at The Barn (gotta make it worth it ;) ) The prices can be a tad expensive, but the quality of the food is worth it. read more

I went here for happy hour about a month ago. They didn't really have any happy hour specials (bummer), but this place is more of a restaurant than a bar to go to. The bar is small and packed tight with people, but that goes for the entire restaurant. There just isn't much space here. The entire restaurant is an old fashioned barn built 100+ years ago, so they have that working against and for them. There aren't many places left like this in NJ, so it's definitely worth visiting for that alone. I had a chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese. It wasn't out of this world amazing, but the chicken was fresh, or fresh enough and good in quality. It wasn't too expensive either. It's a noticeable step above the average pub food. After hearing about the Barn for quite some time now I finally got to experience it for myself a few weeks ago. As soon as you walk in you take notice of this unique barn atmosphere. Wagon wheels used to harvest lighting and actual stalls that are now converted into booths for seating. We were able to sit in one of those booths and it was really cool, carvings of peoples names everywhere my only regret was not carving my initials there too! For apps we got a whole bunch of stuff: potato chips, boneless wings, fried zucchini sticks, and fried calamari. The potato chips are absolutely delicious and crispy but I do enjoy the soggy ones too! The boneless wings were good nothing out of the ordinary there, the zucchini sticks came piping hot and had a nice crunch to them. The fried calamari was really good and had a nice light breading to them as well. We also got french onion soup that was out of this world and my boyfriend got the new england clam chowder that a snagged a spoonful of and it was really delicious. One thing I will say is if you plan on ordering a lot of appetizers I wouldn't bother ordering a main course. I got a salad a barely touched it because I was so full from all of the apps. My salad that I ordered was so fresh and had nice chunks of avocado and my favorite little baby corns along with hard boiled eggs sliced thin. My boyfriend ordered the chicken melt and really liked it. Although he didn't realize it came with mushrooms so he just picked those suckers rite off. My friends ordered the barn burger and really enjoyed that as well. Over all this is a great place to come and grab drinks and a bite to eat with friends or family. This place needs new management asap. There is so much potential in this cute little bar and grill type establishment, but its completely wasted in my opinion. First off it took them 15 minutes to seat us even though there were plenty of tables. Then it took the waitress forever to finally take our orders ( the place was not crowded by any means). Then the food is just so mediocre. I hate when restaurants give you salads, aka here's s head of lettuce and some ranch, have fun making your own salad. My BBQ chicken sand which was, again, mediocre. The waitress forgot to ask what I wanted as a side (the menu offered a few variations) Nothing great and definitely not worth the price. That's the thing. All of this would be fine if it were some cheap, family BBQ place...but the food was actually pretty expensive. $20 on a beer and chicken sand which is a bit too much in my opinion. I've been to the Barn a few times in the past with good things to say about the food, staff and the owner who stopped by our table to small talk. All changed when my boyfriend and I got the ribs ( a staple of one of our many visits), and they tasted slightly off. The waitress was apologetic, but I can't say the same in regards to the owner. The same vibe was felt the next time we went there ( we didnt't see a reason to completely stop going). The greating was a smirk and nothng else. We did order the ribs again, and they were fine. The Barn is kind of an institution in Wyckoff. Just about everyone's been there and is comfortable going back. It's completely adorable, complete with beams that anyone taller than 5'9" must duck to walk underneath. That said, the food and service are both acceptable-okay-good on any given day. I've never had anything that makes me crave going back, nor have I had anything that makes me not want to eat it. I've been living in Wyckoff for my entire life, and The Barn has always been a fun place to go to for a quick bite to eat. However, I've noticed very recently a drastic decline in the quality of the food, as well as the quality of the waitstaff. To preface, the food has never been great, always mediocre, but the reason to go was always for the atmosphere. That, and the kind servers, kept me coming back. Unfortunately, the waitstaff on my most recent two visits have been less than great. Just last night the cooks forgot to prep a meal for my son, and our waitress didn't even notice that he didn't get a plate until we called her over after waiting for five minutes. He ended up getting his food 10 minutes after the rest of us were served, which was extremely awkward as we weren't going to wait that long lest our own food become cold. Because of this, we were done when he got his food, but our waitress still didn't clear our places - I suppose to give the illusion he wasn't eating alone. Also, you would expect with such a mistake that the price of the meal be removed from the bill. After all, that's what most restaurants will do when they have completely forgotten an order. Well, we were charged. They won the battle, but lost the war. If they had removed the cost of that burger and apologized for their mistakes, we would have come back for another many years. But no, a half-hearted "sorry" was said in a tone that implied they weren't sorry at all and that it wasn't their fault. So, overall, they got $12 out of us for a late burger, instead of hundreds over the next few years. Unfortunately, since the waitstaff was one of the few reasons remaining to eat at the Barn, and it's now in need of a strong overhaul, this was our last trip. read more

I came here with a group from work for a client-sponsored event (read: I didn't pick the place). I don't think I would have chosen this, but it was an affordable place, with enough room for a group of our size (about 12). They had a few local beers on tap, and some standard choices as well. They served homemade chips with the appetizers, which were great for my tastebuds, but not so great for my healthy eating habits, since kettle-cooked chips are a willpower-breaker for me. I ordered the half-a-chicken, and enjoyed the chicken. The sweet potato fries were disappointing, and the vegetables were nothing to write home about.
