We've been going to the barn for years, and sadly, tonight we must say good bye. We believe that there is a new Manager who is very inexperienced, and doesn't understand customer service. Tonight's episode...My wife can't eat sugar and ordered ribs with no sauce. Not 'on the side', but clearly stated ' no sauce'. The waitress brought them with 'lite' sauce. When we reminded her of the order for 'no sauce' she took them back (with attitude, although she should have communicated at the time of order that they don't have 'ribs with no sauce'). My wife order a steak instead. It took over 30 minutes for it to arrive. Our plan of dining 'together' was history. The manager then came by and asked if we wanted to take the original order of ribs home, possibly for another family member. This seemed like a good customer-service-oriented offer, maybe a way of saying, 'sorry we messed up'. We were surprised when the bill came, that they charged for both rib orders. We called the manager over and thanked him for the offer us to take the ribs, but as we wrongly assumed they were comping them as an adjustment for 1) not communicating well at the time of order, 2) not apologizing for the lack of communication and 3) taking way too long to cook a medium-rare piece of steak, we were not going to pay for these ribs. The Manager then tells us that since my wife used her fork to turn the ribs over (to see if there was sauce on it), he now 'had to' charge for the ribs. This seems to suggest that they would have taken it back from sitting on our table for a few minutes, and re-served them, second-hand, to another customer had she not turned them over. Something to keep in mind. We insisted that we were not paying for two sets of ribs and asked for the owner to come over. This young manager walked away and came back, having removed the 2nd set of ribs from the bill. We are guessing, that in a back part of The Barn was the Owner, who understands customer service a better and knows how fragile consumers are these days. With an attitude that is less than friendly and courteous, customers won't come back, and will write about / share their experiences on/with yelp, google, wyckoff moms, Lincoln Dads, etc. Oh well. goodbye barn, read more

Did not even get a chance to try this place. Called at 6pm on a Sunday to ask for a reservation. The man told me it needs to be 4 hours in advance. I replied what? And he said "that's how reservations work. I need 4 hours or a day in advance. Goodbye" and hung up on me. What a great employee to have for your business. read more

Went last night got cheese steaks. The under cooked over greased mushy ingredients were so gross i could not get down half of the slime log. Im betting kitchen filled with non skilled hispanics. The burnt triple cooked frys sucked the ultra greasy mush log (cheese steak) sucked. My stomach all night and now the following day hurts like hell and i feel terrible. We will never be back! Oh and the price was basically a huge FU $15+ for a slime log with left over cooked again fry's. FU! You got to be kidding me and should be ashamed. Do your self a favor don't bother wasting the cash. I hope this abdominal distress ends soon without vomiting or mud squirt Update to this review! This place was very cool. It really is a barn. Lots of eclectic items to look at while having a drink. The atmosphere was very chill. Drinks were solid and the burger was excellent. You can see why this place has been a local staple for decades. read more

I was not impressed by any of the food we have four different meals and each one of them was extremely weak even the appetizer was weak I would never recommend this place to anybody. Solid place! I love the interior! It is easy to miss as you can drive by. We split wings which were great. My salad was fine. My boyfriend loved his fish and chips. Service was fine. The valet company was having some issues, but that was not the problem with the evening. After I was instructed to pull my car up, I asked if I should get out of the car and someone told me stay in my car. After about five minutes, I remained in my car and didn't receive instructions from anyone. Now it is clear they were having some issues, but I was not upset by this at all. Things happen and issues can be resolved. What was appalling was the owner being very aggressive with me, and asking me what I was doing. I told him I was not sure what I needed to do and he proceeded to yell at me and tell me that I needed to know. Then he went over and yelled at my girlfriend asking us if we were coming or going. I totally understood the valet was having issues, but yelling at the customers is not the way to handle that situation. I was confused and really just didn't know what to do. In conclusion, the owner is a very rude person and I recommend that no one spend an evening here. read more

It was so nice to finally be able to go out to dinner again. I didn't know what to expect, and boy did The Barn exceed expectations. They set up lovely tents with 4-6 seatings in very comfortable chairs. Music, flowers, and their usual wonderful staff. Tiki lights went on when the sun was setting. The food was great. So nice to have it come right out from the kitchen. I want to give extra shouts out to the staff. They worked very hard taking care of all the customers, and always so pleasant. It was pretty warm outside, and they walked back and forth all night with masks on. All to keep their customers happy. Such a warm and friendly atmosphere. read more

This place has been around forever and I don't know how. My family stops in for dinner every few years to give it a try but every time it gets worse. The burgers, or anything grilled, tastes like burnt food left on the grill. The French onion soup was very bland. For dessert we got a brownie sundae which tasted like boxed brownie, plus the ice cream had freezer burn. The waitstaff was very friendly and tentative which was the only upside to the visit. We ended up here the other night at the suggestion of bro and sis in law for a last dinner hurrah with the visiting dad in law and mom in law. He told us there would most likely be a wait knowing that husband and I are not the most patient of people but in the name of holiday we decided to just be cool and let it be. The Barn is definitely an old barn, cool decor and antiques line the place and give it a very rustic feel. The bar is all sorts of carved up by people who have been there in the past. We posted up and ordered some beers while we waited for our table to be ready. They have decent selection on tap from light beers to IPA's. I really don't recall how long we waited, they said about 15-20 minutes, but we managed to get 2 rounds in. The owner was very friendly but he kept coming over to us telling us about another 5-10 minutes (with 5-10 minutes) passing in between him telling us this. He was motioning to another table that was nursing their waters and not touching the check. Listen, Idk how you would deal with this in the restaurant business but him coming over and telling us the time updates wasn't really helping because he didn't have any clue when they were leaving. He did tell us that he would get us a round of drinks on him which was nice. In the meantime other tables were being seated, we have no idea whether or not they were there before us so I can't get upset about that just giving you the story from our perspective. After we were finally seated a woman came over and was pretty upset thinking that our table was hers...def a break in communication or something. So we're seated..mom and dad in law are def cranky at this point, our waitress comes over after about 5 minutes of us being seated and asks if we need menus. Just dumb IMO, why wouldn't you come over with them? Do you recognize us as regulars because 4 of us had never been there. She brings them over and disappears for awhile, comes back and we put our orders in. Husband and I ordered the barn burgers, other orders were the veggie melt sans bread, ribs, steak sandwich, and chicken sandwich. Bro in law was serious about the ribs and normally husband and I are down but we just weren't in the mood for ribs. By all standards our food was fine, nothing amazing but tasty and ok. Halfway through our stay we notice the owner sends 2 waitresses home including ours. Again weird. Whatever rest of the meal was uneventful, our new waitress was fine but nothing special. I hate to sound like a jerk but the waitresses were reminiscent of your typical diner waitresses but with no personality, that doesn't fly in terms of tip giving. SOOO end of the story around 3 am on Saturday am (keep in mind we ate here Friday night) I wake up with an upset stomach (though it was just a stuck fart I was wrong) and my body just felt weird. I realized upon waking that I was seriously ill. I've had food poisoning once before and this def felt the same--I can't say for sure because although husband didn't get sick he did have some bathroom issues later the next day. I was a puking/pooping mess with extreme bodyaches and a fever. So I lost a day of pay (I'm a personal trainer if I don't work I don't get paid), and missed a night of Phish tour. I can't say for sure what caused it but I will never eat here again. All it takes is one doodoo finger to touch your food and you're sick for a whole day. No thanks, never again. read more

What happened to The Barn???? Is it under new management? Been going there for 40 years and went last week and the food was not fit for serving. I ordered a burger. I lifted the bun to add catsup and the burger was barely the size of a half dollar with one slice of tomato. It looked lost on the bun. The was no 1/4 lb burger....merely a small patty you buy in the box of 12. The fries....dripping in oil and brown. Time to go to other places. A classic - been coming here since I was a kid, and my grandparents came here before then. Be sure to ask about the history of the place (hint.... think Prohibition Era). I used to live in the area and would go to the barn occasionally. I have always had an ok time there but I finally met the owner in my last trip and my eyes where opened! We had reserved a table for 9 and only 8 of us could make it but I guess they needed to add another small 2 seater table to ours to accommodate 9. Half way through our meal we had an issue with one of our entrees that my Aunt had received. The owner came out a bit later and questioned why we were unhappy with one entree. We tried to tell him but he was very combative towards us and then started to give us grief about not needing the small extra table we had and how we should never have made our reservations for more then showed up? (My uncle had a last minute emergency and couldn't make it how are we supposed to predict that?). He was loud and embarrassing to us in front of everyone to the point that the table next to us came over and said they were shocked by this and would never be returning. I have to say I'm shocked at all the negative reviews on this place! My wife and I love it! The food is great, awesome burgers, salads and the steak sandwich is phenomenal. We've been there a dozen times and have never experienced bad service. This supposedly "rude" owner went out of his way to give a little toy to our 2 year old and personally thanked us for coming in. I'm a graduate of Ramapo, '64 and a large group, over 35 of us were there a few days ago and based on my classmates opinion, a poorly run place. I've never heard a manager say, "You're not drinking enough." Where I come from, that's against the law. Looks like we'll never be there again dropping over $1800 +tips of discretionary income. I was at the barn this past Saturday evening with a rather large party. Our waiter was excellent and the food was nothing special. Several members of our party sent food back luckily is as not one of them. As we were leaving we watched the owner of the establishment berate this woman. I felt uncomfortable with his actions. If is as that woman I would contact an attorney. Needless to say I will not be back after watching that man speak to the woman that way. Sometimes if the staff's attitude is bad and the food is good you can tolerate it however this place sucks. A genuine speak easy around since prohibition in the United States. Decor gives you the true feeling of eating inside of a barn . Very good pub food. We had the chicken and it was exceptional. This place is the real deal. To start, the atmosphere is very old-fashioned and has a very homey and comfy feel to it. The room is visually stunning and immediately sends off a great vibe from the second you walk through the door. I can't come up with a single complaint about the food. We got the buffalo wings, which were some of the best buffalo wings I have ever had (probably because of their special homemade buffalo sauce). My girlfriend got a bacon cheeseburger which I tried, and we both agree it was perfection. I got the pulled pork sandwich, which was also phenomenal, and to top it all off, the homemade fries that our meals came with were incredible too! Overall, I highly recommend this joint. Living in the next town over, I have always heard of this place but never made it there till this past weekend. The place is small and not noticeable at all from the road (I missed the entrance the first time) but once inside you definitely get the historic feel of a barn that everyone talks about. The service here is impeccable and the owner is approachable and really defines the high level of bar and pub food. Was highly impressed with The Barn Original. Although I have been a long time New Jersey resident, I had never stopped into The Barn. My wife had made a reservation last Saturday, and they took us right in, even though there was a crowd. Was very impressed with the ribs, and although the drinks were a little pricey, it was a large glass that satiated your thirst. From the second we arrived to the second we left, there was nothing but friendliness. Our waitress was lovely, and was very attentive. Although the building is breathtaking, it is a bit of an obstacle course to get to the back. God bless the one waiter who has to duck every time he walks through, and the hostess who has to tell everyone to "watch their heads!". Great neighborhood restaurant for all ages. When our grandchildren visit they always want to have dinner at the Barn. They love the atmosphere and the food. My husband's high school buddies recently had a mini reunion there to reminisce about the good old days and they could not have been more accommodating.
