A diner, of which there are numerous in New Jersey, is a establishment that churns out inexpensive, and potentially excellent, but very standard breakfast food - omelettes, pancakes, benedicts and the like. A true brunch place, on the other hand, offers things like lemon ricotta pancakes, cacio e pepe scrambles, mushroom thyme omelettes and shakshuka. Willow & Whisk is that kind of brunch place, and which is rare in New Jersey. The food options are varied, very tasty, and with good portion sizes. The smoked bacon was delicious, but the focaccia was a little too thin and hard, making it harder to eat than I expected. The house-made sausage was good, just not particularly memorable. As for the coffee, it was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. The latte wasn't very smooth, and the cold brew had a slight off taste. They were both drinkable, just not something I'd order again. Overall, I'd recommend this place for the food and the atmosphere, especially if you're interested in the French toast. A generous amount of seafood, served over rice and with a good amount of kick to it. Finally, the service was great! The owners walked around the dining room, making sure everything is perfect.
