    Avocado toast with smoked salmon
    Ally R.

I had a nice meal at Just Janice. The outdoor seating area was comfortable and the servers were very attentive and friendly. Ordered: Southwest chicken sandwich- $17- soft ciabatta, grilled chicken, cheddar, bacon and chipotle mayo. Very tasty! Asked for no cilantro pesto since I have an aversion to cilantro. Came with fries too. Avocado toast with smoked salmon- $21- mashed avocado, with smoked salmon and a fried egg on multigrain toast. It had a good amount of avocado on it. It was served with a side salad. It was a little expensive but I understand that the price was due to the premium ingredients used. It was a nice meal! I would recommend checking out Just Janice.

Good food, excellent service. Risotto on breakfast menu, daily special wrap and coconut pancake were excellent.

First things first as I'm sure other reviewers have flagged but Lula is BYOB. We forgot that memo but luckily they partner up and recommend local wine / liquor distributors who are able and willing to swing down to the restaurant with a bottle of your favorite thing. Prices are high (on-par with what you'd expect from NYC fine dining) but the ambiance isn't stuffy and staff were kind, friendly and generally attentive. Note that the restaurant is generally loud (there is no music) so you might find yourself raising your voice to talk to your partner. The restaurant was completely busy so reservations are necessary though thankfully did not find it as competitive as NYC to get a prime-time Saturday night dinner reservation. The focaccia, a staple on Lula's menu, was excellent though I would do without the +$3 additional sardine sauce / accompaniment which I felt was unnecessary. The beef tartare was my personal favorite, light and delicious and a generous portion paired with the cream sauce and chips. We were generally satisfied by the time our entrees came out and I really enjoyed the salmon / fish dish they served along with the clams. Finishing with the Baked Alaska was also excellent (though not game-changing) and we enjoyed our time here. Would recommend a visit and think there's enough going on nearby to warrant a trip to Ridgewood, NJ regardless!

Overall not a great experience!

I don't even know what it was served over but it was some kind of shredded veg and covered in a delicious light savory sauce with a hint of sweetness which I just learned was from a "sweet drop pepper" garnish. I wish there were more of these cute little red gems! It was the first time anyone at our table saw them. It reminded me slightly of a slightly smoky ripe cherry tomato. Delicious!! I ate the almost the entire dish and ordered a side of truffle mashed potatoes. I was very satisfied with my main entree and the black truffle mashed were also delicious even though the chef didn't know what region they were from. (A truffle hunter told us to always ask the chef what region they are from to ensure they are authentic and not oil or fake lab grown because they have to certify the region they came from before exporting them.) TMI I know but if you're a foodie you might appreciate this knowledge. For appetizer, the table ordered the filet ravioli....I liked the Brown sauce and greenery it was served with but wish they included more green beans. The meat was cut in large pieces inside the ravioli and was very tender. It was unique. Save some bread for the sauce. Hub had the dry aged steak and thought it was too thin and meh for the price. He's picky AF so that that with a grain of salt. I think he was expecting the meat to be like Cafe panache or a steak house and it was not so he won't get that again. I didn't try it and I saw him get it down to the bone so I think he enjoyed it anyway. Dessert was a delish apple tart that was on fire with vanilla ice cream and garnished with delicious berries. There were a few chewy spots from the topping but I would absolutely get this again. The filling was perfect with sautéd apples with cinnamon. Be careful when taking your first bite!!! It's hot from the oven! Hub burnt his mouth. Regarding the service there are opportunities. First, it was extremely challenging to get a glass of water. Second, the first waiter forgot half the specials (but to be fair I forgot too because they were super complex and I can't even remember after eating it!!) The second waitress said all the specials and placed our order. I asked her for tap water that never came...asked again and after 30 min I asked again and this time a bottle of water came that was not tap water. Fine. I didn't send it back because I was so thirsty. This water ran out and then i finally got the tap water bottle from the guy but I could def taste the difference. If I come back again I'll will get the bottled water because something tasted off with the tap water. I wanted to ask for lemon to make it palatable but felt like I was being annoying because they were busy and it was impossible to get another refill. But it was getting late and they started clanking the silverware and turning up the lights and I'm sure everyone wanted to go home so that's fair. There was an amazing server that took the time to take multiple pictures of our group. He even stood on a chair to ensure we got a good shot. I appreciated this extra effort. For ambiance it's a nice place to go on a date or with a small group it kinda gave me NYC vibes as a nice lively atmosphere but it does get noisy and it can be hard to hear. I would have liked to hear the light French background music over the noise because you can hear it well in the restroom. Overall a lovely dining experience in NJ.

The restaurant is very pretty overall, though the interior is quite dim, making it difficult to read the menu without additional light. The tables were also placed fairly close together. Our server was polite and welcoming throughout the evening. We started with the Korean fried chicken and tuna tataki. The chicken was moist and coated in a sweet and spicy sauce. The tuna tataki was flavorful; however, the taro chips were very thin and tended to break easily when holding the tuna. For our main courses, we ordered the Icelandic cod, rigatoni, Freebird chicken, and a side of whipped potatoes. Dessert was the hazelnut chocolate crunch, which was a nice way to end the meal. Overall, the food was enjoyable. That said, the pricing felt more in line with a fine dining experience, while the atmosphere and service were closer to an upscale casual restaurant. Some small details, such as the whipped potatoes being served without a serving spoon, stood out. While minor, these details can make a difference, especially at this price point.

We stopped in mid-week for a family dinner after work and even on a Wednesday the place was buzzing. The restaurant itself is pretty tiny, which makes for a cozy atmosphere but also means tables are very close together. If you can, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu is somewhat minimal, but the food overall was good. I eat gluten-free and noticed the options were a bit limited, which made ordering slightly challenging. I ended up going with the sea scallops. They were nicely cooked, but the portion was smaller than I expected--five small scallops with some vegetables. For the price, I do wish the portion had been a bit more generous. I have to admit I left still a little hungry. My dad ordered the short rib grilled cheese and really enjoyed it. That was probably the standout dish at our table. My sister ordered the honey bourbon chicken and said it was okay, but afterward she mentioned she probably should have gone with the short rib grilled cheese instead. One surprise of the night was live music on a Wednesday. I usually enjoy live music, but since we were hoping to catch up as a family it made conversation a little difficult. The music was fairly loud for such a small space. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. They also have a rewards program, which worked out nicely--my dad received a complimentary dessert for his birthday. I ordered the crème brûlée, which was a great way to end the meal. A couple practical tips: parking in Ridgewood can be tricky. The restaurant advertises valet parking, though we didn't use or see it during our visit. If you find street parking, make sure to feed the meter because the town is known for giving out tickets. In warmer months they do offer some outdoor sidewalk seating, though it looks fairly limited. It also appears they have a happy hour, though we didn't arrive in time to try it. Overall, I'd recommend checking out Steel Wheel Tavern--just be mindful of the timing of your visit, especially if you're hoping for a quieter dinner.

We started off with a crab cake, their new truffle grilled cheese, and their lobster roll which was a special. The lobster roll, prepared Maine style with caviar on top, was really delicious. The truffle grilled cheese could be skipped if you don't like an overwhelming truffle taste. And I've had better crab cakes but it was by no means bad. For entrees, my party of 3 split everything. We had the lamb chops, the scallops, the duck, butternut squash ravioli, and 2 lobster tail accompaniments along with a side of brussel sprouts. Each thing was better than the next. My favorite dish was actually the ravioli. Very creative flavors. For dessert, we had a toffee cake/pudding, peanut butter mousse, and scoops of brown butter and vanilla ice cream. All in, the bill came out to $445 and we brought our own beer and wine. After a nice 33% tip for exquisite service, I'd actually say this place is a bargain, relative to the quality of food you get, compared to a lot of NYC fine dining restaurants. Decor is swanky but not oppressively so, with a clientele that's older but not geriatric. It's BYOB, which probably does wonders for the liquor store across the street.
