Cute little place near the Historic Thomas Sappington House & Museum in Crestwood, MO. We were headed into St. Louis and wanted to stop somewhere for a Breakfast/Brunch before heading to our event. I was amazed we were seated so quickly without a wait. The Host was very pleasant and let us know about a couple of Specials they had today. Well, that totally changed my mind of what to order and am I ever glad I did! Talk about DELICIOUS! It was 2 small Belgian Waffles that were then dipped into a French Toast batter and then cooked on the griddle. They came with a dusting of Powdered Sugar and Pastry Crème drizzled over the top. I had maple syrup for dipping and a side of bacon, which was cooked to my specifications. . Needless to say, I cleaned my plate! My Hubby got the Barn Breakfast which was 2 Eggs (he chose Sunny-side up) a side of Fruit, Toast & Bacon. He said it was very good and the Fruit was FRESH, not frozen! Bonus! Overall, I would go back. The Staff was nice and the setting was cozy. My ONLY Con was, I feel like my entree had set a bit as the bacon was cold and the waffle was a little dry (maybe from sitting out for a bit???) Maybe they had to make these waffles up ahead of time as their whole establishment was small and for time to get orders out quickly they may have been made ahead of time??? This is currently by far my favorite spot for eggs Benedict in Saint Louis! I have been here a total of three times- ordering the: Ragin' Cajun, Swine & Dine, and the Everything but the Farmhouse Kitchen Sink. Driving here I missed the turn once but when you do make the turn there is plenty of parking! I highly suggest outdoor seating if the weather is nice because there is a lovely view! The service is always attentive and kind. All three Benedict's I have ordered felt like the lacked Hollandaise sauce but it doesn't cost too much extra for more. All of the tables are equipped with the usual for a breakfast/brunch place; normal salt and pepper, jellies, real and fake sugars- but The Barn also has Chula hot sauce ready on the table if you're wanting to spice up your meal a bit. So far my favorite benedict was the Ragin' Cajun which has crawfish in the benedict and I believe Cajun seasoning in the sauce. The Swine & Dine and the Everything---- were both great in their own way also but both times I ordered them the meat was a tad dry (still delicious but just dry) and I know this isn't the case because one of my friends ordered the same thing and his meats were nice and juicy still. For sides, I have tried the Belly Buster Barn Browns, which you can had Hollandaise or sausage gravy. Personally I like the sausage gravy one slightly now because it gives a great comfort food taste but the Hollandaise version is perfect if you're feeling some of that sauce! The desserts also look like they are made in house with lots of love! I would suggest the carrot cake but I know I have a bias towards them. They do have a rich yet not overpowering taste though! First time. Super friendly service and multiple people always checking in on you! I like that because I needed a top off of coffee a few times while my server was busy her colleagues were there to help. Food was great. It was brunch. Wife got the Rajiv Cajun, supposedly one of their best sellers. Crawfish patties on English muffin and poached eggs on top covered lightly with their special sauce. She also got their season Carmel apple mimosa. Had we known it was $2 up charge we would of stay with regular but it was tasty. Cool look to it. I went with the stratta. A combination of a French toast/quiche type set up. Eggs and bread and great big pieces of sausage in a casserole then covered in their gravy. Was filling but tasty. This place was recommended to me by a friend. Im ALWAYS up for a new breakfast spot, and finally got to give it a go this weekend. We got there about 9a, and it was busy. Luckily it was only about a 30 minute wait. Inside the restaurant is LOUD. Annoyingly loud. The service started off decent, but didn't end as well as we sat for 10-15 minutes after our meal and finally had to flag somebody down to get the check. The food was good, not great. All in all, I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. But wouldn't be mad if someone wanted me to go with them. read more

The Barn is located in an old barn (makes sense) on the outskirts of walking trails in Crestwood. The seasonal decor and twinkle lights make for a "at home" feeling. Looking for a good breakfast after soccer at WWT Park and we found it! After my daughters game we needed some food before heading back over the river and Yelp delivered this place. First time we drove right past it so be wary it's set back off the road behind the museum. Once we arrived we were a bit worried about the wait offered, 15-20 minutes did not seem like enough time as the place looked packed. However the full bar and open bar stools convinced us to stay! My wife and daughter went to tour the gift shop upstairs and found it very cute. I meanwhile ordered a mimosa for my wife and a caramel apple mimosa for myself. Shirley Temple for my daughter. Upon their return i was a hero. My wife loved the mimosa. Adding honey and Madris gras colored sprinkles around the rim was a nice touch. My 'mimosa' had no OJ. Caramel vodka, Champaign and apple juice. Honey and sugar around the rim. I really enjoyed it. We were seated quicker than expected. Probably no more than 10 minutes. They turn tables quickly. Our server Nikki was extremely polite and knowledgeable about the menu. She recommended the crawfish Benedict for me which was fantastic. The subtle sweetness of the seafood played well with the Hollandiase sauce. Eggs perfectly poached covered the dish in silky egg yolk. I would definitely eat again. My wife got some giant casserole bake. It was very good as well. Not sure how anyone would eat the whole thing but she liked it and tried her best. My daughter got a skillet with potatoes and ham. She asked to go off menu with eggs over easy on top and Nikki was happy to oblige. The little girl cleaned the plate. Overall we had a great experience and will be back next time we are in the area. Hands down one of the best, freshest breakfasts I have this side of the Mississippi River! I've always wanted to say that... From the staff being super friendly and attentive, to a breakfast that tastes so fresh I forgot to take a picture! I had the eggs Benedict and Barn Browns aka hash browns. Hard to describe unless you have had bad Benedict, this hollandaise sauce was perfect - not too sweet and so smooth. The super shredded barn browns were perfectly crisp on top and soft on the bottom with a hint of butter. And, not to mention, the coffee - well balanced, and not pretentious! I was excited about this place from reading the reviews and stepping inside - farm to table, beautiful aesthetic, brunch on a patio on a nice day. We were disappointed though! I got the California Benedict. It is $12.39 and doesn't come with english muffins, so you pay an extra $1.39 for that. It would have been a sad looking breakfast without the bread though. Just.. avo, egg, and sauce on a plate with a small amount of undercooked "carmalized" onions. This is the worst benedict I have had. The hollandaise had no flavor. Avo wasn't ripe. Menu said it had gouda but I saw none... My partner got The Texan. Thin slices of brisket which led to it being a tiny, tiny portion of brisket. Bbq sauce tasted like any other sauce you'd get at the store. Other than the bbq sauce there was just no flavor! The food overall was flavorless, really underwhelming. It came out quick though, so the kitchen was on top of it. I do not typically review service because hey, even if your waiter is bad, they could just be going through a rough day. Here, the staff was super friendly and kind, but the service was just very... Odd. One waitress came up to us with a credit card and receipt in hand while we were still eating, asked, "is this yours? I am trying to find out who this belongs to." ...Uh, maybe don't flaunt that you lost the owner of that credit card... Another table asked for the propane heater to turn on, so another waitress attempted to turn it on, it didn't light, so she just WALKED away with the propane on! The other table and us locked eyes, "did she just leave the propane running?" So my partner stood up and turned it off because the area was filling up with gas. I wanted something new and different for breakfast and lucky for me I found The Barn. I had to scroll deep in to my "breakfast" search on Yelp to find my new adventure and to my surprise it was only 7 miles from house. How could I have been missing out on something this good? I have a lot of catching up to do, to experience the entire menu. This morning I did a little role playing and ordered, "The Ranch Hand Breakfast". It was a manly breakfast of Biscuits and Gravy with two eggs on the side. I had my eggs scrambled, my new obsession with eggs. The B&G were a huge serving of milk pan gravy covering flaky biscuits. I must say, I have a new winner of a Stevie B Awards in the category of Best Biscuits and Gravy. My dining companion ordered Eggs Benedict with Barn Browns as his side. Barn Browns is a creative name of Hash Browns. Whenever he orders Eggs Benedict out, I cringe in fear. He is a Benedict snob and I always have the fear they are not going to be up to his standard. We had a winner and I got to sample a bite. The eggs were done to perfection and the Hollandaise sauce was impressive for a small cafe. They even served up the Hash Browns, I mean Barn Browns, extra crispy without even having to request them that way. Working weekends, Tuesday is my weekend so I enjoyed an early morning Bloody Mary. I ordered mine Hot, with UV Sriracha Vodka. The glass was rimmed in spicy salt and garnished with three olives and a lemon slice. Oddly it was served in a short glass, but it was big on flavor. Service is relaxed and friendly and the ambiance is warm and cozy. This little gem is definitely in my breakfast rotation. Good food, good service and the prices are very affordable. This place was so cool. We had finished riding Grant's Trail and we wanted breakfast. Thanks to my handy dandy Yelp app, we found The Barn. The parking lot was full and we were afraid that the wait would be long, luckily it was only 15 minutes. The place was small and quaint. They have a drink menu: mimosa's, Bloody Mary's, and many others. I knew this was the place we needed to be. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. My friend ordered the Barn special: two eggs to order, sausage, Barn browns (hash browns) and toast. I had the quiche of the day (mushroom and swiss) it was heavenly. The coffee was tasty, Bloody mary could have used a little bit of something. The service was great, very friendly hostess and attentive wait staff. We had so many people waiting on us, we were not sure who we needed to tip. This place one can hop off of Grant's Trail, eat and get right back on your bike. I recently stopped in for dinner about 7pm on a Saturday night. No wait! The restaurant is located just off Sappington at the intersection of Grant's Trail. There is a nice sized paring lot for the restaurant and the trail. The building is adorable! The wait staff was super friendly and the chef even came out to greet all the tables and ask how the meal was. 5 stars for service! Dinner right now is only served Thurs, Fri, Sat from 5-9. After talking to the chef, they plan to extend their hours in the future. They are also planning a renovation of the inside (adding a bar) and enclosing the patio so that there is outdoor seating year-round. Dogs still allowed! The dinner menu consists of several breakfast-y and traditional dinner items. We ordered the French Onion Soup ($5.99) and the Black Tie Eggs Benedict ($17.99). The soup was not the best I've ever had (I'm a French Onion Soup connoisseur)- the broth was a little thin and the cheese was bland (just Swiss cheese and not browned melty goodness). The Benedict was the star of the show! Served on a buttered English muffin, topped with grilled to order beef tenderloin, with a wonderful Bernaise sauce (with tarragon and lemon added for freshness), and truffled eggs. What are truffled eggs you ask? Deep fried poached eggs with a sprinkle of truffle oil. Just amazing! I would go back and just have a dinner of truffled eggs if they let me. read more

Searching for Breakfast on Saturday, we came across this little place. We were excited to try it out. We love mom & pop breakfast eateries. I ordered the Everything But the Kitchen sink bagel And my friend had a pork belly Beanie. The food was great. The reason they get a 3 (cause you can't do a 3.5), is we waited nearly 45 minutes for our food. Several tables seated after us received their food before us. Apparently something happened, our ticket wasn't submitted. They compensated us by giving us scones, to take home. Scones were stale and not much flavor, fairly dry. Typically where we come from, they give you a discount if they messed up. 10-15% off your bill. Here, they gave us old scones. But they were really friendly. read more

The food was good.... the service was trash! She was rude and not only to us but to every single person that walked up to the patio, she brushed everyone off and/or ignored them. She got our order completly wrong and when something was said - you got it! It was ignored and then she didn't come back till it was time to pay. The barn is close to our house so we've gone many times since it's opening. The food has always been delicious and very fresh tasting. The service waxes and wains as probably most restaurants do but when we went in a couple weeks ago the service was ever bit as good as the food and the scones are still my favorites is town. What do our food and eating experiences represent to us? Is it really just a matter of finding a meal that satisfies in the moment, our need for sustenance? Can we imagine, in the moment, of a first bite perhaps, that the very first impressions of taste, texture and aroma might somehow transport us emotionally to another time and place? I have been, for many years, in a not so specific search, longing for such a meal that would capture an experience of my childhood. It is a very detailed, very deeply embedded emotional expression that has been with me since it first happened all those many years ago. As I prepare to celebrate my fifty-fifth year on this earth, I am right now, thinking of this mornings breakfast as an unexpected early birthday present to myself. For one such as myself, as I remember the childhood that I had, as unkind as it was, those breakfasts with my grandmother resonate with me as few other things have or can. And even throughout the isolation and loneliness of my childhood, I nevertheless still had special moments that reflected those very rare moments of kindness and heartfelt connection, that today, many take for granted in their day-to-day life. And this morning, I was able to have such a fond memory of my childhood time with my grandmother, in a way that recalled those unique and personal shared moments with a woman that always saw me as someone worthy of love. I wish that I could share photos that do justice to this exquisite meal but sadly, I don't have any. I even hesitated to share these, as I said, for they in no way even begin to illustrate the flakiness, the tenderness and depth of flavor that I encountered. The chunks of sausage were so generously married to a gravy that was hearty and yet never overpowering. There was no hint of "too much flour", or even an imbalance that caused one to wonder what kind of mixture we were actually eating. As talented as I like to think I am when it comes to writing, there is nothing that I can write about the meal itself that could, in any way, convey to you how wonderful it tasted to me. As one that recognizes in myself the very special nature of biscuits and sausage gravy, I only hope that for others, who like myself, savor the richness of truly homemade biscuits paired with equally and lovingly made gravy, I hope that you will take a visit to this place. I have intentionally refrained from saying much about the service for a very real reason and it's because, once again, words would fail to adequately represent the feeling of attention and dedication to a wonderful experience that the staff all seem to share. You must experience it for yourself. The décor, sadly, I cannot speak to because at the time of this writing, the interior dining area was closed due COVID-19 restrictions. In the end, for those of you that understand this "review", let me say that with the very first bite, I fought back the emotion that welled up inside me as I so very easily, in that moment, could smell my grandmother's light perfume, see her at the oven making the gravy and biscuits. I did, with that very first bite, recall how much joy her biscuits gave to me. It was the moment of genuine tenderness shared with me in the form of those flaky little bundles of flour and her special attention to her grandson, all smothered with the just-so-perfect gravy. Perhaps one could say that I am projecting onto this meal but, I submit that it was the meal itself, this morning, that imposed its beauty ever so gently into my soul and graciously allowed me to bask in one of the single most beautiful moments of my life with my grandmother. Can we, truly, remember joy over something as simple as biscuits and gravy? I say, yes. read more
