Yumi Sushi, Tea & Sake inside the Stock + Grain Food Hall in High Point ended up being one of those places that catches you off guard in the best way. I just wasn't expecting this level of authenticity in High Point. My daughter and I stopped in on Saturday, May 23, and spent $61.39 on dinner and drinks. I almost skipped it entirely because raw fish just is not my thing. Smoked salmon, yes. Raw seafood, usually not happening. Then I noticed they had cooked poke bowls and customizable options, so we gave it a shot. The food hall was not busy when we visited, so service moved quickly. After ordering, they handed us a buzzer and our food came out fast. We ended up getting everything to go. I ordered the large Strawberry Blossom tea refresher. It had a really good fruity flavor, although it started out a little sweeter than I like. I added some extra ice and that fixed it immediately. My daughter got the Peach Paradise tea refresher, and hers was excellent from the first sip. Both drinks were large and definitely worth the price. We shared the Firecracker Roll, and they had no problem adjusting the spice level for us. Normally it comes with spicy tuna and spicy sauces, but they toned it down without making a big deal about it. The roll came with ten pieces, topped with fresh tuna instead of the spicy tuna, crunchy bits, scallions, and sauce. Plenty for two people to split, and we still brought a couple pieces home. It was delicious! For my meal, I ordered the Chicken Poke Bowl from the cooked menu section. I am glad I spotted that menu because it completely changed my mind about eating there. Every bite was fresh and flavorful. The vegetables were crisp, the rice was cooked right, and the sauces pulled everything together without making the bowl heavy. I upgraded to the fried chicken for an extra dollar. The breading did not stay on perfectly, but that was a small issue compared to how good the bowl tasted overall. Even the bites without chicken were good enough to stand on their own. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned. My daughter built her own poke bowl, which honestly looked like the fun option. You go down the line choosing your base, proteins, mix-ins, sauces, toppings, and crunchy add-ons. There were a lot of choices, but it still felt simple and easy to follow. Everything looked fresh, colorful, and made to order. The restaurant itself was clean, modern, and organized. The staff stayed friendly, and the whole place had a relaxed vibe. It was a bit pricey, but I think worth it. This place definitely earned a return visit from me, especially considering I almost walked past it because of the raw fish focus. Ordering and preparation were quick despite how busy they were and a huge order was placed right before ours. The staff was very friendly. My friends pole bowl (not pictured) was delicious and super loaded. However, I got their fried shrimp appetizer and it did not quite live up to my standard. Firstly, many of the shrimp were fried with the tails on which I found unappetizing, the coating on the shrimp was very thick. My schedule was somewhat tight so I had the greatest idea to stop in at Stock & Grain which was less than 5 minutes from my afternoon meeting location. Decided to call in to Yumi instead of placing the order online (since I was driving). By the time I got there, set up my laptop where I could plug in and keep working (there's plenty of seating) and got situated, my food was ready! I chose the seafood ramen and added a boiled egg and mushrooms. The egg sat on top with a somewhat runny yolk but since the broth was in a separate bowl I was able to pour it on top and cook the yolk a little. Could've been a bit more hot in temperature and I could have chosen medium spicy instead of mild but I didn't want to risk it having a meeting right after. The bowl was chock full of noodles and seafood and they did not skimp on adding mushrooms. We recently went to try to the Stock and Grain Food Hall (see that review separately), and this was one of the establishments in the building we tried as a group. As a huge fan of sushi and an explorer of Poke, I was excited to see this option. Ordering was fast and easy, though I thought prices were a bit high. They use buzzers to notify you when your food is ready, and while it took a while, I appreciated the option to wander the food hall and still know when my food was done. The pickup area was a bit unclear with multiple orders sitting on the bar, but I was able to figure out which one looked like mine. As for the food: the Goyza appetizer was very tasty, and we enjoyed them! The Yumi Yuma sushi roll was a large portion, good flavor, and overall above average. The Poke bowl was a bit overwhelming with so many options (but to be fair, I don't even like picking all my toppings at subway sometimes - I usually like pre-made menu options). So good! I was not expecting much from this place given that it's in a food hall. Location is great and super convenient. This place is located towards the middle of the hall, which is nice because there's lot a of seating and access to both sides of the building. Service is a little slow but that's more than fine because this place is going for quality...and it's obvious because everything is SO GOOD. Yumi is just superb. Delicious sushi; I tried the firecracker and loved the options (tuna or crab) and the crunch was so awesome. The spicy ahi bowl was so fresh and awesome; I thought the portion was actually surprisingly large too. Just delightful! This was our first time visiting the food hall and so we stopped here for a tea and a few appetizers. They have plenty of seating throughout the entire food hall and it seems that most of the businesses give you a buzzer for when your order is ready so you can sit just about anywhere. We got the Gyoza's and the fresh spring rolls and they were the perfect start to our lunch at the hall. My favorite was the Fried Gyoza's, which were fried to perfection and full of chicken and pork filling that was so flavorful! We wanted to try the new Stock & Grain food hall while we were in High Point. They have many options from BBQ, burgers,  and pizza. I had a taste for sushi, so I tried the Yumi Sushi store. Yet, to my surprise,  they offered poke bowls. I tried their YUZU PONZU SALMON bowl. It came with salmon, cilantro, scallion, shredded radish, cucumber, mango, sweet onion, pineapple, seaweed salad, fried onion, ponzu sauce & sesame oil. The bowl looked so good that I forgot to take a picture. Now, the service was a little subpar. While the attendant taking my order was nice, they never told me when my food was ready. They gave me a clicker after I placed the order. Yet, it never went off. I walked by the counter and my food was just sitting there. I had to ask two different cooks if this was my order.  While the food was good, I wish they used the clicker or simply told me to wait nearby so that I could ask who's food it was as they placed food down. read more

Love this new place for Poke inside of the freshly opened Stock and Grain Assembly! High Point has a bigtime need for more sushi and poke, and this place inside the food hall definitely delivers. I had the Yumi Deluxe Poke Bowl and didn't make any modifications on this trip. I wanted to see what things should taste like from their perspective, and honestly, I don't think I would change anything really. I might add a little more spice, but really, it was spot on. The fish was fresh and plentiful, and it was a pretty good size bowl. If you think about it more like deconstructed sushi with more toppings, this really is a great way to get a similar experience. There was a lot of other really good looking stuff on their menu I need to try soon as well, including one of their teas, but I feel like I am going to be spending a lot of time in this place and will be sure to get around to all of it soon! Recently went to Stock and Grain and decided to try a few new places! We stopped by Yumi and decided to get a boba tea, the yuzu shrimp appetizer and a sushi roll - the sweetheart roll. The staff were so kind and they did let us know that orders will take 20-30 minutes so be prepared to wait a little bit longer. The tea was delicious and made with really fresh ingredients. The shrimp were tempura fried and topped with a creamy yuzu sauce which was delicious. The sushi roll was beautifully presented but for $17 it left a little bit to be desired. This place is great. They are located inside a food hall, so if you think you missed it, you did! I know I did hahaha. We got two appetizers and two drinks. The gyoza was very tasty, my little one loved them. And the sweet yuzu shrimp was tasteful! I usually prefer spice over sweet foods, but that yuzu sauce was delicious. The shrimp did feel a bit soggy, but I didn't mind. For drinks I got the Matcha Cherry Blossom Latte and the black sugar chai brûlée latte. They were both delicious. But I had a few comments from my dear husband saying it tasted like soap. Hahaha. So for the rest of the night he called it my soap drink lol. Overall we had a great experience. Yumi, like its Stock and Grain neighbors, is a fairly new addition to High Point's dining scene. That recency begets a certain need for patience as the eatery gains its footing, but even with that consideration in mind, this place was a bit disappointing. Positives first: for its compact size, Yumi boasts an impressive menu. It offers everything from apps (think gyoza and edamame) to sushi (nigri, sashimi, maki, and specialty rolls) to poke bowls/burritos (a half-dozen presets, and you can build your own) to bubble teas and slushes to sakes, beers, and cocktails. Staff here are pleasant, and they had no trouble taking our order correctly despite the noise of the bustling food hall. That said, be prepared to wait, and be prepared to pay. My wife and I went with a burrito and a bowl, respectively, and waited at least a half hour. Yumi's staff were definitely not slacking but were simply struggling to keep up with demand. When the food was finally ready, it did little to justify its price tag. The $14.50 bowl was a decent sized portion, more expensive than Ninja Café's equivalent offering, but you would expect to pay a bit more for location here. The same-priced sushi burrito, however, was a great deal smaller than either Ninja Café's or Toshi's version, and the same lack of value is suggested by Yumi's specialty roll pricing (most are $17). To Yumi's credit, the ingredients were fresh, and both items were prepared as requested. The mango and pickled radish and ginger in my bowl made for a colorful presentation, and the sweet and acidic flavors played off each other really well. I wouldn't rule out a future visit to Yumi especially after they have had time to get settled. The food quality and menu variety are enough to keep that door open. Just the same, its pricing and an underwhelming first visit mean that I won't be hurrying back. read more
