I've been coming here for years now. Very chill place with friendly servers and some cheap drink specials. Awesome view as well on the corner of Davie and Denman overlooking English Bay. I've never been here on a weekend but it's supposed to get crazy busy. I'm usually here on a weeknite and it's never really that crowded and the big thing is it's open til 2am. Went for Dine Out and even for $18 was severely disappointed. My appy was great! Warm Brie with roasted garlic, I was hopeful. I ordered the steak medallions and even with my all my strength an force struggled to cut through my steak. My dessert tasted like mouthwash. Other than that the service was pretty bad. She served us to take our drink and dinner order at the beginning but then had to be flagged down to order more. She never once asked how our food tasted. They brought our courses out without the previous ones being cleared, I had to stack everything. I'd go back solely for drinks but wouldn't eat there again! It has a cool and cosy ambience that drinks would suit but not good for meals, even with the dine out pricing. read more

A fantastic bar. Not fantastic because it's actually fantastic, but because of the combinations of things many of which aren't fantastic at all. Let me explain. It sort of feels like the foreword bar on an old Star Trek ship, filled with tired space engineers and general starship support staff, worn out, waiting for their trek to be over. Mix in some LA bar filled with broken dreams, lonely men staring into their drinks, the occasional escort pickup by an out of town businessman, a few cougars clucking into their wine. Everything feels used, and sometimes that's more comforting than you realize. The view is amazing, and it's surprisingly out of the way while somehow being right in the centre. It leads one to picture that everyone there is up to something, that The Bayside Lounge is this place where these dark lives overlap with the regular rest. Eavesdropping on the next table will reveal crumbs of the underworld, an arms trade or spies exchanging data - these things happen every day - and I'm convinced that they happen at The Bayside Lounge. Came here for the first time as I moved to the area. Wanted hangover brunch and it did not disappoint. Simple brunch options yet tasty. Got the hash and added Hollandaise and it was delish. Stayed into happy hour which has great food and drink options. They have many different Caesar choices too so will be back to try those. Service is sub par but that is the vibe of this laid back establishment. Cool place with good views. Would be nice for the sunset too. read more

This place is great! My friends and I try to go as often as we can. The martinis are out of this world...yum! Also, the sunsets and view are so beautiful to watch while snacking on appies and having drinks. They have regular pub-style food but lots of options for people who don't eat red meat or poultry (like me). The salads there are great and so are the crab cakes. My husband especially likes the sliders (mini-burgers)...he says they're super tasty. They play house music which is really nice if you like that kind of thing because most pubs etc tend to play rock or top 40 which doesn't really make you feel like you're in a lounge. The Bayside feels like a true lounge. Yes, the decor is a bit dated for sure, but it still has a really nice feel to it :) Definitely the best place in the westend to have drinks and watch the sunset! Leanne read more

For such a high density neighbourhood there really aren't a lot of places to grab a drink after work in the West End. Bayside Lounge is my favourite by far. Not only do you feel like you're sitting on the bridge of the starship enterprise, you get beautiful sunset views (when not pissing rain of course), reasonably priced drinks and unpretentious service and atmosphere. I've never had more than the nachos but I've also heard the food is pretty decent. If you're lucky you can also listen in on some first dates...seems to be a popular spot for those. My friend remembered this place for having great Caesars. She used to live up the street from here. We were in the neighbourhood and hungry so we decided to head back here for old time's sake. Unfortunately, the fondly remembered Caesars tasted as though the Clamato had either gone off or was being mixed with soda water. They had a suspicious fizzy quality that did not deter us from drinking them, but stopped us from having our usual allowance of three to five. We quickly switched to beer. This place is a bit strange. You walk up the stairs to get to the entrance and the bar is kinda ship-like, with the bow being a row of windows facing English Bay. There are tables around the bar in the centre. There were a ring of sailor-like old men bellied-up to the bar making regular heh-heh-heh-type jokes to the cute waitress/bartender. Before my uneventful trip to the Mediterranean Grill, and after the incredible Madonna concert (have I mentioned that enough lately? because it was awesome!), my friend and I went for a vastly unneeded drink with some people at the Bayside Lounge at the corner of Davie and Denman Streets. At first it looks like you are dinning in a converted UFO, a round area on the second floor with a bar in the center of the dinning area. One set of tables around the windows and swivel bolted-in chairs around the bar. At first it looks amazing and you are hoping to find a table by the window overlooking the ocean. When you do see one, the excitement is almost overwhelming and you are willing to overlook the slim narrow path to the table as you weave between the occupied table-chairs on one side and the bar-chairs on the other. I didn't realize at first that the bar-chairs can't be pushed until I smack into it thinking I could scoot it forward a tad so I don't have to say excuse me to the guy at the table who is stretching his body out of his chair with arms into the isle. Of course the chair I attempted to push was secured to the ground, so instead of giving me a little bit more room it just knocks me back and BLAM. Sorry, If you are reading this it was my first time there I didn't know the chairs were secured to the ground, I was really trying not to bother you as you rudely stretched across the already narrow path. But... Regardless of your apparent ignorance of your surroundings I would still like to apologize for bouncing into you... LOL No worries everyone just laughed it off. The one disappointment was getting to the table and realizing that one person had to sit with their back to the window. !!! ARG! Their is a wrap-a-round booth type seat that's back is against the wall under the window and it wraps around the whole restaurant. My GF quickly jumped on the both seat, because she likes sitting in those type of seats better then a chair, however her disappointment was clear as was mine. I had the Lamb Burger. Yum! With yam fries. Although I felt the Burger was missing something it was still tasty.. But the Yam Fries were a little lonely, normally I get some sort of dip with Yam Fries and so I asked the waitress as she hurried by and she said you have to order it separately. As quickly as she answered my question, I kind of feel she should have mentioned it when I ordered them. However, I won't doc any points from her, she seemed to be the only waitress in the place at the time and she was impressively maneuvering very quickly around the cozy (actually most people would probably say CRAMPed) area's, in order to serve everyone. She seemed to have eyes in the back of her head and about the time we were ready to look for her to refile a drink she appeared. The owner of that place is lucky to have such a person. The view was worth suffering through all the little flaws and watching the sunset while eating made for a wonderful end of the day. Aaaahhh... I love this country! Group Hug! read more

It may not be the hippest joint in town, but the Bayside Lounge is pretty cool. Pink neon and brass invites you right back into the '80s with a total lack of irony. The giant circular bar dominates the circular room, which is lined with windows looking out over English Bay. It's a great place to watch the sunset with a martini in hand - which I have done a few times. I love the booth seating by the windows - it's a continuous round of seats and tables that line the room - which make it easy to get to know your neighbours, should you wish to, when the bar is full. It's a very unpretentious sort of bar, I find. The staff are friendly, and if you treat the bartender right, you'll get some good free-pour action indeed. read more

I've got to say, this place is A-Okay! My friend lives right down the street so I've passed it a whole bunch but my perception was always that it was some outdated sports bar. I have NO idea where I got that from! There is a lovely dark interior with couches, candles and a cool round bar. Many different options for seating - take a spot by the window and gaze at the ocean, or hide in a dark corner away from the crowds. I ordered a Bloody Mary. Then ordered another Bloody mary and said "Can you put it in a giant cup? I want to drink it forever.", to which she actually did put it in their largest cup. The Bloody mary was delicious and full of enough garnishes to make me swoon. I also ordered yam fries which were delightful. I've been here many, many times over the past 20 years. I used to like this place a lot as it was a lounge. It was a place people could come to with a great view, chat AND you could actually hear what your party was saying. Now it's loud and you're basically screaming at each other. Since the tables are close together to can overheat other people's convos and they all say the same thing. It's just too loud. If I come back I will only come back late afternoon / early evening at the music is just annoying loud. It's a good place for one drink then move on. Food is mediocre at best. read more

It seems like this place wants to be an upscale lounge kind of place, but also doesn't really want to work very hard at it, so the vibe comes across somewhere between dive bar and lounge. To access, we had to go up some unmarked stairs to find the door to the right. Once inside, the room is circular, with many windows to view the bay. Really nice view and probably worth it to pop in and watch the sunset here. Our server was nice and helpful, but extremely busy as she was the only one serving the entire place. Not a large selection of beer (more bottled, only 3 on draft). My friends who got mixed drinks said they weren't very good. We did get an order of their garlic fries, and those were some of the best fries we had ever had. They have nightly specials, happy hours, and other miscellaneous deals. Drink prices were reasonable. If I lived in the area, I might come back but probably not often. read more

We went here one night for a simple dinner. We ended up just finishing the initial drinks we ordered and going somewhere else. There was not a spot near the window views that night which I'm guessing is the only reason to come here. The tables seemed fairly cramped. I seemed to keep hearing the conversation at the table next to us better than I could hear my husband. Upon asking for a check, our waitress "misunderstood" what we said and never brought it. I booked the Bayside for a casual, intimate reception for a friend's wedding on a Saturday afternoon, just last weekend. Dez (the manager) was so incredibly accommodating and helpful through the whole booking, answering all my annoying text questions and emails! The day of staff were all rock stars - all our guests had the best time and everyone commented on how great the food was, how nice the staff were, how beautiful the view was and just how comfy the venue was in general. They are amazing! And ps. Do yourself a favour and order the Grilled Cheese Dippers. read more

We received a Vancouver Entertainment book as a gift, there was a bayside lounge coupon that we decided to use We were there at happy hour and tried the drumetts that are better than chicken wings, and the mussels which were amazingly succulent! Other restaurants could use a tip on full mussels they were huge, and the sauce to die for, we had a couple of drinks. I asked Phil can I use the coupon? if he were to have said not on a busy night we'd be okay b/c we used to be regulars and always loved the view and the food! "that's what it's there for" he said plus you can't use it on the steak even though my coupon was for equal to greater value Phill started on about tax, even though he said we could order the tuna at the same price. I ordered the steak anyway. We ordered more drinks since we weren't driving, invisible Phill than decided that he would not come around anymore, passed right over our table after asking tables around us if everything was okay. This sweet French man who was sitting at the bar, came up and apologized. I asked a lovely waitress for the manager, and to my surprise it was a hardworking young man who was rushing around he apologized said that there was no rule about using the coupon on the steak and bought us a round. Thanks young man! My husband ordered the salmon which he thought was nice, the steak was made to my liking very nice tender, juicy. Congrats chef. I know it's annoying using these coupons and people don't want to deal with them but it's not like we went there and ordered water and shared a plate, we spent money. This is a secret gem, hidden on the second floor on the corner of Denman and Davie. This is the kind if place you can always get a seat if you are a small group. The food is general pub fare, but it is good and they offer a wide variety. Of course you have to ignore the early 90's decor, but that isn't too hard. I don't know how I keep coming here and yet haven't taken the time to fill out a review. I'm a little biased on this review because I've been in great company on my few visits and in high spirits. My friend lives about 2 minutes away and we usually make the Bayside a last stop before retiring for the evening. Service staff is friendly and the selection of drinks is good. I could sense the hesitation to serve us the 5 tequila shots we ordered last weekend, which looking back was probably the responsible thing to do, but I appreciate the professionalism they showed throughout our visit. The deep fried pickles are great, and their view of English Bay while eating is a very tough one to beat. I'll be back. read more

This place has a beautiful location right by the English bay and could potentially be awesome! However, when I walked in last night I didn't even last 5 minutes. I obviously wanted to like it because of all the raving reviews, but I have to say it was underwhelming. We walked in, the crowd was meek, music was blasting, and It felt like a dead wannabe club to be honest. We were greeted by the bartender who told us we could sit anywhere. We then picked a spot with a nice view of the bay, and shortly after a server showed up. She was snotty and rude. We're from out of the country and it was our first time so we just had a few questions and she answered sarcastically and we did not feel welcomed at all. We weren't going to eat there if we were going to have to deal with her smart mouth all night. So I got up and left. I can't even write about the food because I never got to ordering. I visited this place recently as a friend was having a going away party. I had never been here before really liked it. The layout is cool and the vibe was really friendly. As i sat and waited for my friend to arrive i notice the DJ setting up in the corner. I grabbed a drink from the bar (which by the way is like 5 feet below us all). The bartenders are always looking up at you as if they're in the first row of a movie theatre. Is there a Chiropractor nearby cause I gotta feeling these gals need an adjustment. So the place is cool, the food is pretty good and the music rocked. Such a great DJ. He played everything I wanted to hear and few tracks I had never heard of. This is a great place to chill with friends. Totally recommend it and will most likely be back. read more

Reasonably priced drinks and appetizers. Ordered the Bayside Breeze, Blueberry Smash and a Bellini during my visit. Lots of different drinks to choose from! Dinner menu items were a bit on the expensive side since the portion sizing is quite small. I shared the Ahi Tuna Stacker with a friend but would only really give it a 2/5 since it had too much Tuna for the only two small wonton crackers. And the overall taste was just very average and plain. Also shared the steak medallions (medium rare) that was absolutely amazing and probably the only thing that was really worth getting. I enjoyed the English Bay Sirloin, and all I can say is YES YES YES. This had an amazing aroma, bursting with flavor, loved the veggie combination. Perfectly cooked. However the drinks I enjoyed were not that great. Long Island iced tea was watered down. The mango daiquiri was not very sweet, also seemed a bit watered down. Up to a few weeks ago, I didn't know this place existed. Got a call to meet up for drinks at 1:30AM - when most bars are doing last call already. Here's a familiar conversation: Me: "Fuck that - I don't want to go to a club" NotMe: "No - I don't want to go to a club either..." Me: "Meet at your place?" NotMe: "No - I'm out of booze..." Me: "... I'm dry too..." NotMe: "..." Me: "... fuck, I don't want to go to [last resort] again..." NotMe: "... okay - I know a joint at near English Bay - Bayside" Me: "... Bayside? Like... the Tigers?" NotMe: "You're so weird." The joint was open until 3AM on Friday and last call was 2:45AM. Same late hours when I came in on a random Thursday as well. That's should be enough already, but here's some other good points: - no cover and there's a DJ - music varied from Top 40, hip hop and house - lots of booths overlooking English Bay and lounge couches; friendly people at the huge circular bar - staff was reasonably fast and friendly - reasonably priced drinks - lots of cocktails and pitchers of beer available - lively without being overcrowded Overall, unpretentious bar that caters to everyone from large groups to couples. Open later than any joint (that I know of) that doesn't require a knowledge of a password or a secret entrance. I was originally hesitant to sing the praises of this joint in case you Screeches and Beldings fuck this place up - be cool. Be cool. I created an account specifically to down rate this place. After trying to get the waitress's attention for 15 minutes we finally got her to bring us a food menu. She dropped it off and never came back. My friend even went and found her to let her know we were ready to order, and she never came. After over half an hour of watching her push customers out of the way so she could serve cute men we just left. The bartender also yelled at my friend when she couldn't immediately move out of his way because she was being blocked by other people. Can't believe how bad the service was all around. I used to come here around 07 and 08 and even organized a workshop at the Best Western in part to use the lounge for meals. Came back to check it out and what a downer. Old, boring, 3 beers on tap and staff who make it clear they don't want you there. They add GST and liquor tax to your orders, so a measly 16 oz glass of draft is nearly $7 before you pay the obligatory tip. Considering the new happy hour and other specials in town it's absurd. The only good thing remains the view. Time for new ownership/management and a re-boot of the Bayside Lounge. Check out the new Park at English Bay downstairs on Davie instead. read more

cool, nostalgia (er, decor that hasn't been updated in decades) vibe with a great view. friendly and quick service. love the circular room and bar. nice to be able to get a table for 4 pretty quickly on a weekend night. my only misgiving is that there isn't anything i want to eat or drink here which is a bit of a bummer when going out for a drink or an eat. the water was good though. ha. oh, and i was a little offput when our server had her nose in 2 of the drinks to determine whose was whose. but that's my issue, i suppose! read more

i love this place... i have been going there for years. it is the kind of place to go in the evening mid-week to to have a quite drink with friends and a view of english bay. the scene is usually busy enough to be comfortable but not crowded. there are drink specials most nights, and the service is prompt never pushy. its a clean cut place to mellow out without the newly renovated slickness that vancouver seems to be plagued with lately. there is no specific 'scene' or clientele, it always seems to be a bit of everyone, so you never feel out of place. my only complaint is they have a couple of tvs hanging around,but strategic seating takes care of that. if your in the west end and you need a place to hang out try the bayside lounge... read more
