Wifey saw an Instagram post for The BBQ Pit and when she showed it to me we jumped in the car and went. After our 25 minute drive we walked in and were overwhelmed with the aroma. I do love the smells of a BBQ joint. So this is one of those places where you order up front and they bring it to your table...no waiters or waitresses. We ordered the combo for two - 1/2 pound smoked brisket, 1/2 pound pulled pork, 2 pieces of cornbread, baked beans, Mac n cheese and pickles. I also got a Smokehouse Dog- jumbo Thumann's dog with smoked cheddar, smoked shredded brisket, and caramelized onions. Just be aware, they have Jones' soda - not Coke or Pepsi products. I don't drink soda often, but Jones' is simply better than the other two. So, the combo came with huge portions. They also have four types of house-made sauces at the tables - honey bourbon BBQ, sweet hickory smoked, mango jalapeño bbq, and a Texas gold mustard bbq. The sauces were excellent. I loved the hot dog, however I don't think it was the huge Thumann's grilling dog, as it was shorter than those. Regardless, this was a delicious dog. More shredded brisket than I expected and the whole thing was pretty filling. The menu here is expansive so I MUST come back to try some of the sandwiches and other platters. Wr ordered a full rack of ribs. When we got our food they only gave us a half a rack of ribs. The ribs were room temperature and the fries were cold. We waited about 10 minutes for our food so it should have been hot. This placed used to be really good before they moved to the larger spot. The ribs were always hot. Today they were lukewarm and no char or smokey flavor to them. read more

Staff were friendly enough, building was very nice. Wood on the walls was a nice touch for the rustic cowboy vibes along with the hats. Food came out quick with a good size amount of food. Got the mega/ family meal (3-4) people. I was a bit disappointed in the food, the turkey and coleslaw I enjoyed, along with the pulled pork. I wanted some BBQ to start my 4th of July weekend and chose the BBQ Pit. I went with the brisket platter with potato salad and mac and cheese. The portions were good, the brisket was moist and the meal came with some tasty corn bread. I also had the Texas twinkies, breaded jalapeños stuffed with shredded pork. For dessert I had the banana pudding! Amazing! The staff is super friendly and polite. I noticed when there was some down time the cashiers started sweeping and cleaning up. I appreciate the effort of keeping the place squared away. The dining area is clean and has cool BBQ style decorations. The servers are nice, but the food is very very expense and overrated, it's nothing special, but the restaurant is very themed with bbq.

We ordered takeout from here and got the Texas Trinity Combo, which comes with with brisket, ribs, cheddar jalapeño sausage, cornbread, pickles, and one side. The brisket was cooked perfectly and was very tender, but not too fatty. The ribs were very smoky and tasty, and also also very tender. I was not a huge fan of the cheddar jalapeño sausage, and found it to be a bit salty, but this may be due to personal preference, as I don't usually like sausage anyways. We chose the mac and cheese as our side, and although I wish we got a bit more, it was delicious. We also added on waffle fries and the corn & black bean salad. The fries came a little soggy, probably from the car ride home, but we threw them in the toaster oven and they crisped right back up. I was not a huge fan of the corn and bean side, which was a bit plain and seemed expensive ($4) for how small and plain it was. The entire meal was more than enough for dinner for 2 people, with leftovers for lunch, and only cost around $40 total , which i thought was a great deal. Althought I can't speak to the dine-in experience, the service for takeout was very polite and our order was ready almost immediately. New restaurant that opened up in the area so I wanted to give it a try. I called my order in for pick up. The person that answered the phone was pleasant & helpful. I subbed the chips the meals came with for fries. The burger was pretty small, way more bun than burger. It was also pretty dry. The 'crispy fries' were not crispy at all, and dry. They give you 3 different bbq sauces on the side, which came in handy for the fries. The mac & cheese brisket and pulled bbq pork sandwiches were ok, as were the ribs. We were in the mood to support another local #SmallBusiness. @BigDudesBigFoods took a little ride up to @TheBBQPitNJ in #HackettstownNJ for a couple of #JalapenoCheddar Sausage and #SmokedTurkey #samiches . Both are NEW menu items and both are juicy and delicious . The #homemade #HushPuppies with #MapleButter were amazing as were the #DeepFried cornbread bites. Of course, we had to try the chicken wings and were not disappointed. Robert, Stephanie and the gang really made us feel at home. this is a new little counter service barbecue spot. It looks to do a big g takeout business but we are in. The owners are present and staff is friendly. We got wings, mac and cheese and the trio sliders. The sliders came with chips. We loved everything but the chips needed salt and were soggy. I will definitely go back. read more

My family has tried The BBQ Pit a few times for take out. Some of the BBQ Meats were a bit dry and lacked the Smokey flavor of real BBQ. The Fried Pickles were good and some of the sides were okay. The ambience inside is trying to look like a BBQ restaurant from the south. This place is okay for BBQ. read more

Damn decent, worth the trip. We tried pulled pork, pulled chicken and brisket. All were flavorful, and the brisket stood out most of the three meats. The biggest treat was the cornbread, which caused my family to argue over who got the last piece. I've done NC and SC bbq trails, though I'm only giving them four stars because as good as it is for here, there's room to improve. I'm from Mt.Olive, and having a place that's this good marks a turn for this micro-region. Now we don't have to drive to Stroudsburg or travel very far for quality. Keep it up! read more
