First time at this Speakeasy! Love the vibe and Denisa was great keeping up with our party. Food and drinks did not disappoint. Will definitely be back.

I was super impressed with this speak easy. I walked by it a couple times and missed it but that is the way it's supposed to be. Just look for the Barbers Impressive decor and outside seating is nice in the back, live music and good service. Next time I will go back and try the food. It was a full house and very festive and hard to believe I was in Anthem

This is a local favorite because it has some of the best food in town. Now this town is not known for many restaurants that have what I call elevated food but the Bearded Barber does a good job. I had a few different drinks, including and the Manhattan and one of their smoky old-fashioned, which is kind of fun because it comes in this box if they open up and all the wonderful smoke comes out as you grab the drink. We had meatballs and I also ordered a salmon over risotto, which was very tasty. My buddy had a BLT which he enjoyed as well. The service is occasionally spotty, but overall, I've had a very good experience and it's definitely worth coming into this great little speakeasy and having a drink and some nibbles !

What a gem in Anthem. Happy hour deals made it worth it, otherwise it can be a little pricey. You pay for the experience and atmosphere, service was quick, attentive, engaging, fun diverse drink menu, and a good spread of food to choose from. We ordered their specialty old fashioned (blind tiger), tequila cocktail (lady lilith), 2 pies and the brussel sprouts. The blind tiger was a lot sweeter and more flavorful than a regular old fashion. So speak to your bartender to get the deets on flavor profiles, alcohol content, etc, they are very knowledgeable. They'll help you make the right choices. The place filled up fast on an early Sat afternoon. Dress code in effect. See their website for details. Fun experience all around.

Absolutely LOVED their speakeasy! My family did too. You must get the password from their website, and you must call the phone in the barber shop to get in. Loved the friendly service, beautiful interior decorated in detail, and the elegant Arizona saloon take on this place. Check their calendar for piano or jazz nights. We came in on piano night. Food and drinks were delicious! Loved our Ricotta Board, Braised Beef, Gnocchi Alla Vodka, and Butternut Ravioli! We liked their Blind Tiger which is one of their takes on an Old Fashioned. No reservation needed unless it's for 8 or more people. During theholidays we were able to get a table around 5pm on a Thursday. As the night went on it got packed. Also Happy Hour is 3-6.

I'm visiting a friend in Phoenix and we decided to try out this place! This is such a fun speakeasy. We came on jazz night and it was surprisingly very crowded. Music was great and the vibes were vibing. I appreciate how lowkey the place is. I also appreciate that this place offers both food and drinks, most speakeasies only have drinks. Our server, Lindsey, was great! She had great recommendations and was very accommodating. Definitely worth a try if you're in this area! Food review: French fries: (10/5) Bomb. Not sure what they did to these, but they are delicious especially with the dipping sauce. Funghi pizza: (4/5) Very truffly flavor. But tasty! Bearded butcher pizza: (5/5) We love a classic meat lovers type pizza. Everything meshed well. I love how thin the crust is and the pizza was plenty to share! Russian spanking: (5/5) This was an off the menu item. Super delicious, creamy, and flavorful. Comes with a delicious white/milk chocolate stick! Baby face: (3/5) Lots of flavors going on at once, didn't mesh the best in my opinion. Old fashioned: (10/5) honestly one of the best old fashions I've ever had. I could've drank them all night. Perfect balance of flavors.

The BEST. We've been twice and been blessed To have Denisa as our server. She is kind, friendly, and knows the menu well. She even remember some of our orders the second time we went in (on New Year's Eve). Amazing PIZZA, PASTA, and ricotta cheese appetizer. All of our cocktails were fantastic. And the live music was next level. Top spot to visit in the north Phoenix area.

I usually like to wait for more than one visit before writing a review but The Bearded Barber feels like one of the exceptions. We had been meaning to check it out for several months now so several weekends ago we finally made our way. This has the feel of an actual speakeasy as it should be, it seems. You enter into a nice, working barber shop. There is a rotary phone on the wall with a number to dial. Give the password to whoever answers the phone and you are welcomed in to a nice, dark and spacious setting with ample seating at various tables, lounges chairs and a well-equipped bar. There is a separate raised members-only area off to the side. We were warmly greeted and offered to find a seat anywhere ( it was still early and we were the only ones at the time ). Being terrible with names I don't remember our host's name but he was very personable and friendly. We were given time to check out the menu and finally settled on some cocktails along with a beautifully presented charcuterie board. The drink menu is interesting and varied, with intriguingly clever names, as you often find in these types of establishments, which just adds to the fun. The cocktails we sampled were very well-crafted and tasty. One stand-out for us here: my better half really loves a concoction called a Banana Split Martini which she always orders when we visit our favorite nightspot in Indianapolis. We haven't found it anywhere else for some reason. She asked our host if he could whip one up; they did not have banana liqueur but he said he'd see what he could do. He scrubbed his first attempt since he found it unsatisfactory, then a few minutes later presented us with something pretty close and damned delicious. That was certainly above-and-beyond. This feels like it is typical of the level of service here, even though it was our first visit. We know we'll be back. Make the trip out to Anthem and step into The Bearded Barber. I'm pretty sure you won't leave disappointed.

The vibes were good and the band playing were really good. Overall everything was top notch. The drinks were strong, but good and the droid tasted delicious. It was a really good experience.

I've been to a few speakeasy's. But none of them have Chris as a bartender. From the moment we eased onto the bar, our entire experience was perfection. This was my first time to this fun spot in an unassuming strip mall. Don't think you can just show up! NAY NAY! You must go to the website to get the password sent! Upon opening the cocktail menu I was greeted with a list of bourbon drinks. How could I say no? The password was yes all night. Yes to the Parmesan crusted artichoke hearts. Yes to the mussels and clams. Yes to the warm brownie and gelato. And because I was now old friends with the bar staff, they felt it necessary for me to try a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon that was only available by the bottle. Spoiler...I said yes. Top it off with live music and great conversation. You can't go wrong. Don't you dare go here without saying hello to Chris. Top shelf service and humor.

The presentation alone makes it a must-try, and the cigar scent lingers long after the drink is done. My favorite drink of the night was the Money Trees, which was like a sweet bourbon with bananas foster. We also tried the Lil Demon, which includes a chai foam that's very unique. The third highlight for me was a Chocolate Martini, which wasn't on the menu but was the first I've ever had to not include Bailey's. So good! I should also mention that the bartender was kind enough to make the chocolate martini, even though we could tell it isn't his favorite drink to make. We also tried the chocolate lave cake and the deep fried cornbread. The cake was decadent and true to what you'd expect. The deep fried cornbread was a showstopper... sweet but savory, like if a churro visited the Texas State Fair.

It's a cool little spot for drinks and a gourmet bite. The kitchen, bar, and seating area are fairly compact. Even though the kitchen is ventilated, you can still feel a bit of the heat and smoke coming off the grill. We ordered the grilled romaine salad (they do charge a small upcharge if you split plates), along with the bao buns and the wagyu meatballs. Everything was well presented, tasty. Overall, a great option for the west side if you're looking for elevated bar bites and good drinks. My tip: grab an earlier reservation if you can, so you have a better chance at the popular dishes before they sell out.

If I lived in phoenix, I'd be a regular for sure They opened during Covid and are relatively new but they got all their cocktail drinks on lock. Every drink we've had has been amazing! This bar also has live music on saturdays, trivia's and game nights. In fact, at every table, they have a deck of cards against humanity. At the entrance they also have a variety of other games like connect four, jenga and such. Lavender fog: great balance of lavender and earl grey tea! The foam is the best creamy touch to the drink. I feel in a relaxed daze when I have this drink. I think it's the most special one here. It was even featured on a magazine! Pour favor: I don't like mezcal but this was nice. The mango puree was prominent which I loved and was well complimented with sour and spice. This drink style is a little more commonly found in other bars too which is probably because it's popular! Indoor smoking: smoky, cool and well done twist in the old fashioned. They prepare it in such a cool way with the smoking process and the delivery is great. SMOOTH old fashion. It was alcohol forward but I didn't feel any burn that I normally get from any common old fashion. It also had the best citrus aftertaste The sunny slope sour: great if you love whiskey sour. I loved this drink the pear and peach made the whiskey taste less harsh. One of the better renditions of whiskey sours I've had My brightside. Bitter but works so well with watermelon! Refreshing, balanced and delicious. I typically don't love Negronis but I loved this rendition. The nanny: mezcal espresso martini that was also well done. You can also taste raspberry and chocolate every sip Mulled wine: hot wine with spices that I argue was better than the mulled wines I've had in Europe. All the spices and aromas were so complex yet cozy for a chilly night! The bartenders treat their regulars well and seem to really have a great community here. With offers for movie nights, paint and sip, jack box games, wine club, etc

This beer-focused bar isn't the easiest to find because it's underground down a stairwell. Look for the signage close to the stairwell. Ambiance (3.5/5): We sat at a booth at the bar. It's one of the few seats that have back support (which is important to me due to my old man back). Outside of that, it's all barstool seating with no back support inside. There's a jukebox. A cool place to grab some brews. Service (3.5/5): Two bartenders were working that evening and they were pretty solid. I did have to grab their attention a few times but no biggie. The Whining Pig has daily specials including a beer and grilled cheese combo on Wednesdays. I was curious on the price. They didn't know nor did they find out. That was a miss. Food (N/A): No food for me on this visit as I had dinner prior. They have a small menu, mostly made up of various grilled cheese sandwiches. They have a classic one, a pizza one, and a few others. I'm a dan of grilled cheese so I'll definitely try one out at some point. They also have charcuterie boards. Drinks (4.5/5): Now for the good stuff! Unlike most beer spots, they also have wine and several cocktails. But when in Rome, so I went with a beer flight. You can choose five beers of your choosing from a list of 40 beers or so. While they don't brew their own beer, they have an interesting selection of local craft beers and European ones. The types of beers you're not going to find at your neighborhood bar, including saisons and sours. The flight is served in a pig shape holder which was pretty funny. Flights are always my go-to when they're offered as they allow you to try out a nice variety. Added bonus: Walk down the hallway past the bathrooms and you'll run into Pigtails---a speakeasy owned by the same folks. Let's see how Pigtails fares (and note: they have another location downtown. Ambiance (4/5): Speakeasies popped up during the Prohibition Era when alcohol was illegal in the U.S. Since they were underground bars, there was no signage. You had to know where to go to find it. Dead giveaway. You walk down a flight of stairs and that takes you to the bar. When you arrive, you'll see a central bar with bar stools surrounding it. With some nice booths on the exterior. Which is where I sat. The lighting could be a little darker (after all ambiance is one of the hallmarks of a speakeasy) and the music was a bit too loud, but outside of that, nicely done. Service (4.5/5): Friendly and mostly efficient service all-around. They fill up your water cup without you asking. They provide you with helpful recommendations. And there's free WiFi which you might need because my reception wasn't great underground. You pay using one of those hand-held electronic card readers which have become super popular. This may be a pet peeve of mine but I like to see an itemized receipt before I give you my credit card. Food (N/A): I don't think they have food, but if you're hungry, The Whining Pig is attached to Pigtails and they have food there. All it takes is a short walk down a hallway to get there. Drinks (4.5/5): When I'm at a speakeasy, I'm not trying to see a margarita, mojito, gin & tonic, etc. I'm trying to see creative crack cocktails that blend an interesting group of ingredients. And this is what you'll find here. Despite several cocktails not being available, there was a ton on the menu that I wanted to try. I had three cocktails on this visit including Panic at the Disco (IYKYK), and one that was served in a clear tea cup with a huge ice cube (and earl gray tea was one of the ingredients). Exactly what I was hoping for. While the "Pigtails" signage outside of the speakeasy was disappointing, these rest of the experience was terrific.

I truly left this spot with mixed feelings…read more On the one hand, our servers were fabulous! They were dealing with a very large party (with a lot of confusion) behind us, so it was clear both the servers and kitchen staff were stretched thin. I'm not sure if it's a newer addition based on the reviews, but the spot is decorated beautifully. With decor, games, a solid color scheme and a variety of menu options, it's truly an inviting standout in Carefree! Our food was just fine (I think they're aiming for elevated bar food), and our drinks were alright. I'm not sure my smoked old fashioned was prepared correctly but it happens. However, for the experience I left feeling I'd severely overpaid. Additionally, the company was questionable. A gentleman walked around the venue with a dog and a frown, a man came in barefoot to pick up an order, and I witnessed a non employee (or off shift employee?) sneak behind the bar several times. There seems to be a speakeasy medspa behind a painting, but we didn't get the details. This spot has the potential to be a total standout! A mixologist with a solid craft cocktail menu and execution, a menu rethink, and maybe some event programming and this spot could certainly be a home run! If I revisit, I'd be beyond delighted to see they've grown into their potential! Best of luck to these folks!

A Shoutout to Cindy & a New Neighborhood Favorite!…read more We just got back from lunch at Tox Bar/Speedy Burger in Carefree, and what a treat it was! To our delight, Cindy--yes, the Cindy many of us have known and loved for years--was there bartending and serving with the same warm smile and stellar service she's always been known for. This time, though, she's doing it at a place that offers great food, a fun and cozy ambience, and a dog-friendly patio--a rare combo that's hard to beat. Let's face it: dining out isn't as affordable as it once was. But as I told Cindy, I don't mind paying for quality food and excellent service--and that's exactly what you'll get at Tox Bar/Speedy Burger. For years, we were loyal regulars at Brisam's, visiting twice a week. But over time, prices soared, food quality declined, and the atmosphere never improved. The space started to feel tired and neglected. Sadly, the lack of connection from ownership didn't help--unless you were a former mayor or someone "important," you likely didn't get a second glance. Let's be honest: Cindy carried Brisam's for 18 years. Her genuine care for customers was the reason many of us kept going back. Now that she's moved on, it's no surprise to see the shift. So here's my suggestion: support a place that supports its people and customers. Tox Bar/Speedy Burger is that place. Stop by on Sundays or Tuesdays this summer to see Cindy in action. Come fall, I predict it'll be wall-to-wall locals enjoying everything this gem has to offer. Let's spread the word and give our support where it's truly deserved.
