Poppy's Office is located in North Scottsdale / Carefree, which can be a bit of a drive depending on where you're coming from, but it's definitely worth a visit. The space is very neatly designed, dimly lit and inviting, with lots of memorabilia and nice touches around, all the way to the bathroom. Did not try the food, but the cocktails were creative and tasty. The KBC was delicious (Cucumber Bluecoat gin, Chareau Aloe Liqueur, Kiwi, Fresh Lime Juice). The Poppy's Cigar is somewhat smoky but not overly so, and as you can see from the photos, the presentation was great. Plenty of parking around. You can reserve a table online, but we stopped by on a Saturday late afternoon / early evening without a reservation, and did not have problems getting seated.

Such a fun place to visit! Definitely a speakeasy feeling bar as it has subtle markings on the outside of the building, very much like Captains Cabin and Goose down in Phoenix and Scottsdale. We were in the area and stopped in on a Saturday late afternoon. You walk through a bookshelf which reveals the bar behind. It wasn't too crowded but we wanted to sit at the bar. Such a laid back ambiance, loved the bookshelves feeling of the bar. Drinks were very on point and would definitely come back to enjoy more. It's also right next to a restaurant which will be handy for food right after. Definitely recommend for anyone in the Cave Creek area!

Poppy's office is a speakeasy dedicated to the late restauranteur, Paul Keeler, by his children. Located next to Liberty Station on Scottsdale rd just south of Carefree, there is a single door and lamp to lead the way. You'll enter a small office and sneak back into the library and bar. There's just something about a dark speakeasy that makes me want an Old Fashioned. In Poppy's Office it's called Something Brown, made with a whistlepig, and it's real nice. Also, if lychee is on the menu, my husband and I are trying it... so Lychee On Me was a good choice as well. We didn't try any food so...darn it...I guess we'll have to go back. I did check out the restroom, of course, and was not disappointed. I also zoned in on some of the books on the sheriff's shelves and was surprised at the choices. Blindside and The Matthew Shepherd story were shelved by us and I have to wonder if they were chosen for a reason... interesting. It's a great speakeasy that you must check out!

Great drinks, great service, great atmosphere. Has a wonderful time and will absolutely be back!

Really cute, but could to try to make it more "speakeasy" the front door was not closed all the way, yes small detail, but it just made me think "ok this is noticeable". We just had cocktails and brisket fries. The fries were tasty. Each drinker got was really good. The Christmas decor was nice. The decor is amazing and so pretty. I really like the story behind this place. Would go again if in the area or family visiting, we just don't live close enough to go more often.

Enjoyed my time at Poppy's office yesterday! My boyfriend and I headed here for a drink after grabbing dinner and we thought the place was really cute and well decorated. I liked the entry way and it was fun to see everything on the walls. Our drinks were both a little sweet, but good. There were two servers working so we had both stop by and they were both friendly. Overall it was a good experience, I liked the variety with the drink menu!

My husband made a reservation at Poppy's Office for us on our anniversary prior to our dinner reservation at a restaurant down the way. I was really excited to try Poppy's Office because we had talked about it for so long and had not found the time to go. At first I was really impressed with the welcome; when you step in, it's a cool little welcome 'room' where you are greeted and your reservation is confirmed. You are then shown behind the area to the bar area. We were sat and I found it to be a cool vibe. The Happy Hour isn't long and it was over already when we arrived. Our server was not friendly and it threw both my husband and I off a bit due to the fact that he noted it was our anniversary. She seemed to not want to be there. My husband ordered a smoked drink and I a simple Pinot Noir. I wanted a champagne but there was only one Prosecco on the menu and I felt it was over priced for the brand. I would have liked to also have a simple olive or crunch type thing in the experience with the drink, rather than the menu from next door, which I found tacky. My husband ordered a second drink , which he asked about prior to ordering and it turned out to be SO boozy , ( also super $$$$) , it was NOT allowed to be left at the table, which the server did not explain prior to ordering.. one would think since he asked about the drink , she would have mentioned that ? And how boozy it was .. he didn't have a whole glass of it .. before we had to leave. Someone else brought our check and that annoyed our server as she asked who delivered our check. I can't handle when servers do things like that. Please leave your personal stuff away from our experience.. we also didn't love that this is connected to Liberty Station and the simple curtain that was continually opened and closed to the neighboring restaurant. For a speak easy , it didn't carry through on that 'speakeasy' feel for me .. although I didn't hate it, I didn't love it and it felt like a typical bar to me rather than an experience that should have a upscale feel if calling itself a speakeasy- starting with a munch with the drink and the server being kind. Leave the Liberty Station menus at their restaurant.

Cute atmosphere, looks like a library feel. The drinks were fun with cool names. I had the devil in a pink dress and it was so good. Bartenders were nice, it was very quiet when we went.

I have been looking forward to visiting this spot for months- finally got my chance on Valentine's Day! FYI - they are closed Mondays! I am so glad we kept trying- despite a lackluster first impression! First I'll disclose why I docked 1 star: We were "greeted" (if you can call it that) by a "hostess" (using that term lightly) who's FIRST & ONLY words were "Do you have a reservation?". She was silent and did not make eye contact for the rest of our thankfully brief interaction- despite us thanking her for "seating" us at the bar. (Strange & awkward) Now for the good part- the ambiance inside AND the bartender totally redeems the experience! I believe our excellent bartender goes by Trevor. He was 5 star all the way. Knowledgable, accommodating, friendly, & easygoing. The vibe and attire were professional and on point (once inside that is)! While Trevor was perfectly willing and able to creat a custom craft bourbon cocktail we were considering... through his inquiries, he was able to discover what would suit us best- and he opened up a world of new-to-us tequila. We are so happy with his suggestions and thoroughly enjoyed his recommendations which elevated, not only our experience at Poppy's Office, but our libations forthcoming. The decor is moody, exclusive, and exquisite without feeling overly elegant or stuffy. A cozy speakeasy/secret library with well designed light fixtures and design made it a very enjoyable place to hang out with a friend or your own sweetheart. We really loved this place overall, and we will be back!

This place is located inside liberty station. It has great drinks and the ambiance is exactly how I pictured it. It is a speakeasy that is hidden in north Scottsdale, I think something that that area of town needed.

    100 Grand cocktail. So delicious!

What a delightful experience! From the moment we entered the lobby area (which is full of fun sports items and books) to when we paid the bill, our experience was top-notch. When we entered, we were warmly greeted and checked in. The entrance into the bar/lounge area is pretty cool. One important thing to note...the area is dimly lit so reading the menus is a challenge. However, the dim lighting adds to the charm. The drink menu offers a wide variety of options so finding something you like shouldn't be a problem. I chose the 100 Grand which was sheer perfection. The food options come from Liberty Station next door and again, plenty to choose from. I had the pork shoulder with a salad and fries. The pork was expertly prepared and so incredibly tender. The sides were nice but the star of this meal was the pork. Oh, we tried the deviled eggs, too. Delicious!! Our server was very personable and professional. She was very helpful with the questions we had about the menu. The overall experience was awesome and I'm looking forward to introducing it to other friends,

The girls were full after that, but I wanted to try the beet salad. Have to say, one of the best I've ever had. Beets, arugula, goat cheese, walnuts (I think) and Orange slices with a tasty vinaigrette. Although the girls were 'full', they saw that and had to try it. Nothing left in that bowl as well. I say "mildly suprised" because once we walked up to the actual coffee house we heard the live music on the large back patio. One of our absolutely favorite local artist, Aaron Howard was performing, and he definitely brings in a crowd. It was busy, as I mentioned, but not too crowded, and we found a good table towards the back. As it was the begging of the hot weather this spring, we were very grateful for the generous-sized table umbrellas. But first, we went inside the Bodega to order a Beer and a snack. They have a great selection of Beer and wine! And since we were still 2 hours or so away from dinner, we decided to grab a veggie & cheese board, which had a nice variety of cruditè and humas. It was very satisfying for 2 adults. We spent.a total of about 2 hours there and left there knowing we would be coming back to Janey's. Side note: For those of you who need accessibility, I myself am on an electric scooter for ambulating. The parking lot is dirt and only has a couple of handicap parking spots. But no space is more than approximately 150 ft from the entrance to Janey's. Once you get to the building, it is very easy to get in and out of the main bodega, with wide, level doorways. The doors were propped open when we visited. I did not utilize the restroom on this visit.

They were dealing with a very large party (with a lot of confusion) behind us, so it was clear both the servers and kitchen staff were stretched thin. I'm not sure if it's a newer addition based on the reviews, but the spot is decorated beautifully. With decor, games, a solid color scheme and a variety of menu options, it's truly an inviting standout in Carefree! Our food was just fine (I think they're aiming for elevated bar food), and our drinks were alright. I'm not sure my smoked old fashioned was prepared correctly but it happens. However, for the experience I left feeling I'd severely overpaid. Additionally, the company was questionable. A gentleman walked around the venue with a dog and a frown, a man came in barefoot to pick up an order, and I witnessed a non employee (or off shift employee?) sneak behind the bar several times. There seems to be a speakeasy medspa behind a painting, but we didn't get the details. This spot has the potential to be a total standout! A mixologist with a solid craft cocktail menu and execution, a menu rethink, and maybe some event programming and this spot could certainly be a home run! If I revisit, I'd be beyond delighted to see they've grown into their potential! Best of luck to these folks!

A Shoutout to Cindy & a New Neighborhood Favorite!…read more We just got back from lunch at Tox Bar/Speedy Burger in Carefree, and what a treat it was! To our delight, Cindy--yes, the Cindy many of us have known and loved for years--was there bartending and serving with the same warm smile and stellar service she's always been known for. This time, though, she's doing it at a place that offers great food, a fun and cozy ambience, and a dog-friendly patio--a rare combo that's hard to beat. Let's face it: dining out isn't as affordable as it once was. But as I told Cindy, I don't mind paying for quality food and excellent service--and that's exactly what you'll get at Tox Bar/Speedy Burger. For years, we were loyal regulars at Brisam's, visiting twice a week. But over time, prices soared, food quality declined, and the atmosphere never improved. The space started to feel tired and neglected. Sadly, the lack of connection from ownership didn't help--unless you were a former mayor or someone "important," you likely didn't get a second glance. Let's be honest: Cindy carried Brisam's for 18 years. Her genuine care for customers was the reason many of us kept going back. Now that she's moved on, it's no surprise to see the shift. So here's my suggestion: support a place that supports its people and customers. Tox Bar/Speedy Burger is that place. Stop by on Sundays or Tuesdays this summer to see Cindy in action. Come fall, I predict it'll be wall-to-wall locals enjoying everything this gem has to offer. Let's spread the word and give our support where it's truly deserved.

The patio views are beautiful, and the weather made it such a great spot to sit outside in the evening. The live music was a perfect touch...not too loud, so you could still have a conversation comfortably. The owner even walked around and spoke with guests, and both he and his wife were incredibly friendly. You can tell they really take pride in the entertainment they provide and in making sure customers have a great experience. As for the food, it reminded me a lot of the pizza at A Modo Mio Cucina Italiana, which is just a few streets away. If you've had and enjoyed their pizza, you'll likely enjoy Pizzicata as well. I ordered the Jennifer calzone, and it was okay. I would try a calzone again, but with different toppings. I added a meatball for an extra $3, and honestly, it didn't quite hit the spot compared to homemade meatballs. The calzone had a lot of ricotta and not a lot of other ingredients in it, so if you're not a big ricotta fan, this probably isn't the best choice. That said, the ricotta itself had a different flavor than other ricotta I'm used to. The calzone doesn't come with sauce inside, and the side of sauce is pretty small. I was charged $0.50 for an extra... I probably could've used two or three sides of sauce since the calzone had none. That being said, the sauce itself was excellent... very close to the flavor of sauce that my family makes. This sauce really gave the calzone a good Taste, it just needed more! We also tried the mozzarella sticks, and those were good. Overall, the atmosphere is beautiful, the space is a nice size, and the staff is warm and welcoming.
