Having moved to the Boston area recently I was looking for a hip place with good food, live music, and ambiance. The Beehive was recommended by 2 of my co-workers, so I decided to give it a try. My wife and I made a reservation for a Saturday at 7pm, it was pouring cats and dogs outside, but the Beehive was lively and there were about 5 people already waiting for tables when we arrived. We got there at close to 7 and were led to a seat in the "balcony" area on the same level as the entrance in less than 10 minutes. Unfortunately you can't really see anything from this area unless you are at the very front so we requested a table downstairs (basement) and were seated within 2 minutes.We still couldn't see much of the stage, but at least we could hear some of the music and do some people watching. The food selection is a bit eclectic, but tasty. I was surprized that the menu had perogies and Polish lager. I ordered the Sea Bass special and she had the Duck, we also had the perogies as an appetizer. The periogies were good. I'm not sure if they have someone of Polish descent on staff, but they could use a little more frying to get that crispy outer coat. The Sea Bass tasted good, wasn't too soggy or dry, but it would have been nice if the temperature was hotter when it got to our table. Still, it was tasty. My wife didn't enjoy the Duck, but I did... Duck is a really fatty bird, which often results in a thick layer of fat under the skin, therefore it needs to be slow cooked to melt the fat and get that crispy outer skin. Also Duck, unlike chicken, can be served medium-rare, which was the case this time. The Chef wasn't 100% successful in getting all the fat melted, nevertheless I enjoyed the Duck, which my wife pushed under my nose after grabbing my fish! I don't usually like Duck, but this one tasted a little bit of bacon and had the texture of steak, which I liked. Overall, the waitress was pleasant and attentive to our needs. The food was tasty, but not spectacular, especially given the high price. I would expect that the portions would be a little bigger considering that before tip the check came out to be $90 for two drinks, an appetizer and two main courses. For anyone who is coming there to enjoy the music, not just the food, I recommend requesting a table in front of the stage, otherwise you won't get to hear much because the place does get a bit noisy. PS. I have an accent and so does my wife, but as far as I could tell we didn't receive any bad service like some of the other reviews have suggested. read more

Have always enjoyed the atmosphere, drinks and live music at the Beehive but had never eaten there until this week and I will be doing so more often in the future. Everything I had was really fresh and flavorful. The chicken wings were fabulous and the duck which I think is new to the menu was off the charts delicious. I've been to the Beehive a number of times. The food is pretty good but overpriced. Last night I had $24 piece of lasagna (mushrooms and spinach). The waitstaff and bar staff are very good, friendly, capable, accommodating. The maitre de however is snobbish, unaccommodating and frankly just plain rude. We got there right at 5 when it just opened. We were told that only the upstairs bar was open. It's 10 stools were already filled. We asked if we could sit at one of the tables to have a drink or two while we waited for downstairs to open up. We were told no, the tables were for dinner. So the upstairs bar is full, the downstairs restaurant and bar is closed and they won't let us sit at one of the upstairs tables. Ok. Two spots opened at the bar, we got drinks and then decided to head downstairs to have dinner. We approached the host stand, asked for a table for two, were told to wait until the head hostess returned. She did and even though we were standing right next to her, and the person who told us to wait was as well, we had to approach them again to "rinse and repeat". We were led downstairs and given an unappealing table. We asked if we could sit at one of 5 other unoccupied tables closer to the musicians. Again, told no. We weren't asking to sit at a 4 top, just a different deuce. They said those were for people with reservations. We didn't understand as the net number of spots remained the same. One of their reservations could have sit where they seated us. They kept saying they were booked solid so they had no wiggle room. It was obvious that a reasoned logical questioning of "why" was useless. This was at 5:30, the place was still empty yet they wouldn't budge. It seems as if walk-ins were considered second class citizens. A good restaurant values walk-ins as much as those with reservations. We both decided that even though we liked the place, the way we were disrespected and made to feel like a burden to them had overshadowed all else. We won't be back. They should look up hospitality and attend a seminar of some kind. I've had better service at the RMV! read more

These 2 stars are only for the Oktoberfest dinner last week. As a previous reviewer mentioned this is not a great place for dinner. I usually stick to Beehive for brunch only. I have never had a problem with brunch and have always been very happy with their delicious options! Dinner has never impressed me especially with how expensive their dinner menu is. It was recently my friend's birthday and I wanted to take him out. Being that he had lived in Germany before, I thought it would be fun to head to beehive for their Oktoberfest celebration. Their website had advertised German sausages and various other German food. When we arrived we noticed the menu had nothing of the sort! Yes, there was sauerkraut and pretzels but not German sausage! This was pretty much the reason why we came! The manager quickly apologized but offered us nothing as an apology, as is common in several restaurants that care about their clientele's experience. What would it have cost them to keep loyal clientele and perhaps gain 2 more?! I left pretty disappointed after my experience and slightly embarrassed that I had actually suggested the place to my friends as a great place to get German food. read more

OMFG...this place is unreallllllll!!! A one of a kind venue that can not be compared to anywhere else in boston. The music, ambiance, decor, people, and everything is amazing. Its a hidden gem and you truly do wish that you could go back in time and check out this speakeasy back in the day. read more

I went here for the first time Saturday night. I had made my reservation far in advance and asked if we could be in a close proximity to the band and we were 2 tables away from the front of the stage. The food was delicious and all of the servers were extremely friendly and professional. The environment was classy and relaxing - I will definitely be coming back! read more

Wonderful pre-theater dinner! Our reservation was ready on time. Excellent table. Hosts and wait staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Answered all of our questions about wine, food and yes, the building and the name "The Beehive." We especially enjoyed the Caesar salad and the Hawaiian pizza. Five stars all around. I came here a couple of years ago for dinner with a group and had a great time, and a great meal. Finally made it back this evening and ... meh. The service was awesome - the waitstaff, host staff, servers, and busers here are professionals - they know their stuff and deserve 5 stars. The wine list is pretty good too. The food, however left a little to be desired. For the price, a lot to be desired. We had the perogies to start, and those were good - they came with a light arugula salad which is a nice touch. Entrees were meh. They weren't bad, don't get me wrong, but you can get similar food that's just as good, and better, elsewhere in the city for less $. Dessert was bad. I had the bread pudding. Number one - I was told it would be right out after they heated it up. Huh? Heated it up? Never tell a customer that. It shouldn't be needed, especially on a Saturday night at peak dining. Number two - it was dry and burnt. I didn't complain, I ate the whole thing, I was starving. Which is another issue. After a bread basket, an app, and an entree in a place like this you shouldn't still be starving (and I'm not a big girl here folks - 120lbs soaking wet). So the meal went from good, to ok, to ...really? Beehive, not sure what's happened in the last few years. I didn't want to believe it when I heard your food was slipping, but it's slipping. Direct the same attention to the kitchen that you direct to your front of the house staff and get the food back up to par with your reputation. read more

Went there for Sunday's brunch. Outdoor seating is nicely decorated with flowers. It was a hot day so we appreciated sunshades. The veggie omelet with goat cheese was tasteful and delicious, I really did love the home made frites as well. Valentino Martini with a hint of passion fruit was a good match and the substitute of a dessert. No fresh squeezed juices offered though. Also, for gluten-free people omelet is the only option from the brunch menu. However, definitely a very tasty one as well. read more

What a fun place. Went for Sunday brunch and was glad I mind an opentable reservation. Ambiance was swanky and hip . Jazz/regaee one Sunday's. Had eggs Benedict and a Bloody Mary and all the items on the menu were provocatively tantalizing. Google the menu and see for yourself. Service great and they were delighted to accommodate our guest by keeping us on time so she could go directly to Logan. Very cool place with multiple atmospheres upstairs from downstairs that also differ from both bar seatings. Cranberry cheesecake was not to creamy or rich but flavorful and yummy. Went on Monday nights, where they feature soul/funk/reggae fusion music live. Made a reservation and got the table right in front of the band - while others might think this is inconvenient, my partner and I loved it. Nice wine list - server helped with recommendations. High points of the meal were the arancini, the farro salad and the roasted duck. Only downside was the desert - cheesecake - that could have been better. Overall, good service (thanks Julio!) and a great vibe. We will be back for drinks at the bar soon. read more

The atmosphere in the beehive makes this place what it is. Have been meaning to try it since I moved to Boston but the wait is overwhelming every time I walk by on the weekends. Happened to stop in on a Saturday to see what the damage would be for a party of two- they were able to seat us right away downstairs right by the Jazz. The place is adorable inside- exposed brick, long floor length curtains, interesting art. The jazz is such a pleasant touch and free! Food is a little pricey but considering that you're getting a free concert it's worth it. Got the burger which was definitely 4 stars, and my partner got the crab cakes which were also 4 stars. The food didn't wow me but the ambience did, which is why I'll settle with a 4 star review. read more

Cool vibe (if a bit contrived) and good music, but overpriced and we experienced absolutely terrible service. Went there for drinks on a Saturday night and got in line outside. There were around 30 other people waiting, and we all watched as the bouncer's friends were let in one by one (apparently he's got a ton of friends-- I counted roughly 25 people who skipped the line while we were standing out there in the rain). Anyway, after around 20 minutes of waiting, we got inside, and it wasn't packed (why the line then?). We got a seat at the downstairs bar pretty quickly and got our first round but it went downhill after that. We sat there for 20 minutes with empty glasses, trying to make eye contact with the bartenders. Then one of them snapped at me when I tried to flag her down, and was extremely rude to us for the rest of the night. After 2 drinks each over the course of 2 hours (and we're not slow drinkers by any means) we got tired of sitting there and asked for our check, which took ANOTHER 20 minutes for them to bring. When it finally arrived, it was the wrong bill and credit card. Also, the drink prices were pretty outrageous. $7.50 for each of the few beers they had on draft, and most cocktails were around $11 (and according to my wife, pretty stingy on the alcohol). Skip it. There are too many other great places to go in Boston. read more

Also a friend visited the restaurant the same day, earlier in day and hers was lifted seeing unauthorized charges on credit card. Just beware of this place and employees. Despite ignorant reviews of the audio, please do not turn the volume up any louder. The talkative Boston crowd will never stop anyway. In my national pursuit of the best bars in America (some would call it alcoholism, I call these people the police), I have to say this is one of my favorite bars I've come across. It's probably unfair to label it as only a bar, because it's really more than that. It's a jazz club (complete with a full stage), it's a great dinner joint, and just a really cool place in general. There's tons of odd-ball, but interestnig art all around, especially in the bathroom (I've never had so much to read while doing my business). The food was great and the atmosphere too. Try the local beer. I think it was called fish hook, sea scale...some nautical theme. Anyways, it was a great beer. The sea bass was excellent. The scallops according to another person with us was too. I can't remember any other dishes specifically, but everyone in my group was very pleased with what they ordered. So in summary, this place is a cool bar, in fact, it's many a cool thing; try the local beer; definitely try the seafood; and the police think I'm an alcoholic. read more

I have been to the Beehive a few times, but my last experience inspired me to finally write a review. I love this place for the atmosphere, the music, and the champagne cocktails (though the food is a little too expensive for my college student budget) but what really made the night this time was our bartender, Nate. He is awesome. Seriously, Nate is the man. What's up, Nate? Will you bartend for my birthday, my holiday parties, my... life? Please? We decided to go to the Beehive that night because I had to show one of my college friends what she had been missing for the past year when she was abroad. My boyfriend and his friend came along too. Thanks to Nate, the Beehive did not disappoint that night and I got to be that cool friend who introduced you to an awesome new place. All of us had very different drink taste, and after we each tried a drink off the menu and were underwhelmed, Nate came to the rescue and made us each his own concoction based on our personal tastes. They were awesome. AND he knows how to use Chartreuse, which I consider to be the mark of a true bartender (ok, I'm just a francophile snob). Nate can make something fruity, something strong and well-balanced, something with tequila that doesn't taste like a margarita, and even a Bijou (said Chartreuse drink and also my new favorite), which I think is one of those old-school cocktails that should be on more drink menus. He was also super friendly and laid-back. Also, he didn't rip us off for the original concoctions like most places do when you order something off the menu! Thanks Nate! I love love love love love this place. It has everything I'm looking for. Once, I went there and they "forgot" that we had made a reservation. That's exactly what we had wanted. We got to soak in all of the local color. All of the coolest people in boston were there. The guy with that hat and then the other guy in a shorgaze band. When we finally sat down the waitress totallly ignored us, which is awesome. When I asked her which was better the steak or fish, she replied by walking away from us. I've heard good things about this place so went for a date on a Saturday night. The line outside started getting long about 9:30. It was pretty packed upstairs so we asked to sit downstairs to have drinks and a bite and enjoy the music. Our waitress was so nice and accomodating. We were seated near the stage so had a good view of the band. The food came out very fast. We had the Bohemian platter which was ok. It was full of interesting things like carrots, mushrooms, string cheese, quiche, olives, and some other stuff I wasn't too sure of. I didn't really care for all that stuff, it wasn't my style so I wouldn't get it again. For dessert the blueberry cobbler and baklava were excellent. The music was good and loud but the band people should of taken less breaks. I really liked the decor and feel of the place. I would go back again. read more

Chill spot that attracts a diverse crowd and long lines. Get to know some of the bouncers and maybe you'll get in without waiting too long. Live jazz bands add a different vibe to the typical twenty-something Boston bar, lounge, or club scene. Food is just OK. The chicken parmesan sliders were a little dry and also too thick, making biting into the sandwich difficult. It would have worked better if the chicken was flattened and tenderized. The glob of cheese made things even messier. Note to self: Do not order chicken parm sliders next time. The sea salt French fries were not as good as I remembered from the first time but then again, everything taste good when you are drunk. lol. I'm not a big fan of grilled cheese, but my friend's short rib grilled cheese was the winner of the night. I was excited to try this place out, but it just did not impress. the decor is unique. there isnt one word to describe it. I ordered their signature buger and it was delicious, however, our waiter was, strange to say the least. I think he was trying to be funny and charming, but it really came across as annoyed and just not funny. Lose the act and just serve. Walking downstairs felt like I was walking into a movie: smoky jazz sounds from a trio on a backlit, red-draped stage, perfect lighting, and just great overall ambiance. It is expensive but truly worth it. I tried their "Moscow Mule," which has ginger beer, vodka and a splash of lime- divine. I also had a lemon martini I can't recall the name of- again, expensive, but it was worth it. For appetizers we got the fondue- purrrr. Intrigued by a fellow yelper's review of their grilled cheeses, I thought I'd try one for my main course. I got the shortribs and fontina. Wow, I never thought that my food-equals-love huge Italian appetite would be defeated by a grilled cheese- but boy, was I wrong! Despite my finish-the-plate complex, I had to take half of it home. The bread was awesome, thick and perfectly toasted, and the whole sandwich just melted in your mouth. Go check it out! read more

I had a good time at the Beehive. The good stuff: Pimm's cup, beer, live jazz, a young crowd, nice atmosphere. The bad stuff: the jerk at the door with an attitude who made us wait 45 minutes to get in and gave my friend a hard time about his ID (my friend is 35 and doesn't have a fake ID.What a douchebag.), the bartender who decided to tip himself by keeping the change without asking and expensive drink prices. But if I lived in Boston I'd hang here anyway 'cause the atmosphere is cool. Next time I'll probably come during the week. read more

A good friend of mine lives in Boston, and she picked this place for a Sunday night dinner/drink experience. As it happens, Sunday night= BLUES NIGHT, and how can you go wrong with Blues Night?! On top of that, they have a killer selection of interesting and YUMMY brews on tap. We went the appetizers and drinks route, with my post-beer drink selection being the exotically-named "Persian Kitty". YOU ALL MUST TRY THIS DELICIOUS CONCOCTION. My friends and I went here for some drinks on a Friday night after catching a dinner show at Medieval Manor. The drinks here were great. The service was not. They did not want to accommodate our party of 8, and forced us to sit at separate tables even though they could have moved the tables together, since they were next to each other. This meant six of us were together, and two at another table. Note that putting the tables together would not have gotten in anyones way. They stated this was a fire code issue, but I am pretty sure that the fire code only regulates the amount of tables in a restaurant, not how they are positioned. I think this place could have been awesome, but the waiters lack of common sense really irked me. read more

I stumbled upon The Beehive on a recent trip to Boston and really liked the atmosphere and live entertainment, The prices for food and drinks were a little expensive, but there are so many great food/ wine/cocktail options and a decent selection of craft beers. I waited way too long to get in. The bouncer was letting in so many people who probably had connections with him, while people who didn't know the bouncer had to wait in the long, long line. After getting in (it was around 11:30 pm), it was so crowded and since we weren't eating, there was no place to sit. Yet there were many tables around so waiters/waitresses were constantly saying, "Excuse me". Other people standing around were constantly bumping into me as well. If I ever go back, I'll try their food and update this review. Was surprised they had music on a Monday night, good music at that. I can imagine the place being uncomfortably crowded on a weekend but for weekdays it seems chill. We got some seats at the bar, had some drinks and enjoyed the music. Good mixed crowd and not pretentious bartenders. Really like the downstairs vibe. Came here with my family, a group of 9, and we were unable to sit together which I was a little upset about but the place was super busy so I understood. The music was great and the food was good too. I had the french toast, my grandmother had the eggs benedict and we mixed and matched. I wasn't a huge fan of the whole hipster vibe but overall everything was good just not my pick for a brunch spot. read more

Brunch is fantastic! Recently tried dinner here, it was ok. The eggplant parm was huge and delicious, but we were all very underwhelmed by the onion dip appetizer. It was literally cold sour cream with some onion strings thrown in and 4 pita chips on the side. $9.50 for onion dip that didn't even taste as good as what is sold in grocery stores. The live music is a plus and the drink list. I think I'll stick with brunch though! read more

What appealed to me most about this place was the crowd: generally used to venues where swarms of recently-graduated (or egads, soon-to-be-graduated) twentysomethings dress up in their best untucked striped shirt they got from Express/Abercrombie&Fitch/BananaRepublic and least-ripped pair of jeans, or perhaps the skimpiest black dress they have that drapes down from the bustline to cover unsightly beer bellies/love handles, and knee length black leggings with strappy black heels that always get kicked off with great relief outside the 7-11 three hours later after downing a taquito filled with suspect meat and washing it down with a bottle of citrus-flavored vitamin water that ends up one-fifth full in the refridgerator for the next five weeks before everyone realizes it doesn't belong to any of the roommates (lie) so it gets disposed of along with the four pounds of unused produce,3 1/2 cups of Dannon SlimFit strawberry yoghurt, and countless little tupperware boxes half-full of what might be tomato sauce, tomato paste or marinara from that time they all decided to make pasta after getting sloshed because mid-terms were over and Stacie just broke up with her loser boyfriend who wasn't going anywhere in life because he smokes too much pot and sucks at job interviews... ..WHOA. The Beehive draws a different crowd, not too old that they don't enjoy a night out of dancing and drinks, but not too young that they feel the need to make every night a bender. The venue itself to me seems a little oddly shaped - the floor you walk into is a balcony looking down to the main floor. The main floor has a large side room of tables, another room where the stage and more tables are located, and then a little cul de sac that runs up past the stage. Despite the compartamentatlization, rather than seeming cramped it actually made the place intimate. There were corners you could tuck away in and get to know somebody. Or others you could hide in. I couldn't really figure out where the 'dance floor' was, and I don't think I was alone. Some people danced up by the stage (great band btw), some at the back of the stage room, some at the adjacent dining room. I had a great time at the place, and will definitely be coming back. Maybe after having dinner in Chinatown, the happiest place in the world. read more

Okay, so I realize I'm like number 9 million to rate this one (or maybe like 186)... but still, I think it's important that I throw in my humble little opinion. I went here last night w/ 2 friends, one who was having her birthday. We had a blast. They have awesome drinks, awesome food, awesome music, awesome bartenders and awesome decor. All 3 of us really loved it. It doesn't come cheap but it's worth it. We sat downstairs and enjoyed the vibe - very chill but swanky, busy for a Tuesday evening. I definitely want to return - for a special occasion or just for a fun night out. read more
