Older off-the-beaten track residence hotel that can offer solace and comfort outside of the tourist corridors in Manhattan. East Side location is stellar but expected amenities and modernity suffer when compared to the factory hoteliers, although if you enjoy "quirk" as I do, you almost half expect an Agatha Christie murder mystery to break out at any second. I had called ahead to book a very specific type of room and was told that it was reserved. Them showed up and was told all rooms were based on availability and that, in effect, I was making it up. Had two "suites " for one night. This place is very pretty in the lobby but heavily smelled of fuel oil in everywhere but the room. The bathroom has no vent so the paint was actually peeling off the walls. The heat was hard to control because when it was on it was warm but became hot fast, then when it was off the draft from the leaky windows immediately made it cold. The floor was pretty beat up and when we tried to use the pullout mattress it was gross. Very unappealing for the money. Im positive there is a better value for the money elsewhere. TDLR: receptionist shouted at me 'You are a fucking liar' in front of of other customers and staff members, and became aggressive, resulting in me having to check out 4 days early and pay to stay at an alternative hotel for the remainder of my stay. Here is a timeline of the events which unfolded: 1. 11/03/2026 - since arriving on 08/03/2026 there had been no attempt by housekeeping to clear the rubbish, provide clean towels, general clean up of my room or any maintenance of my room. I inquired with the receptionist, known as Hector, when this would be. He told me it would be either today or tomorrow. Nothing was done on 11/03/2026. 2. 12/03/2026 - before leaving the hotel in the morning, just to double check as nothing was done last night, I spoke with the receptionist, who I was told was something by the name of Rodrigo or something similar - it was difficult to get his name, as will be explained later, that it would be today or tomorrow. Again nothing was done 12/03/206. 3. 13/03/2026 - before leaving in the morning, I spoke again with the receptionist, who was the same one I spoke with on 11/03/2026. He said it would be done today. Later when I got back to the hotel in the afternoon, after 3pm - bearing in mind the cut off time for cleaning is around 4pm, nothing had been done. I went down to the lobby to speak with the receptionist, name Hector. I explained I had been told since 11/03/2026, housekeeping would clean my room but nothing had been done. He immediately became defensive, said he hasn't said that and flat out said he will not apologise. As a customer with a legitimate issue, being provided conflicting information with no end result, I was more within my rights to question what is going on. At no point, did I raise my voice, shout or abuse any member of staff. I asked Hector if he understood why I would feel frustrated at the situation and he said it's not his problem. I asked him if he works for the company and he remained silent. He said he's not speaking with me and walked off. Not only did he not listen, but walked off without rectifying the situation. I managed to flag down another staff member, named Shelly Ann, and I explained exactly what had happened with no cleanup of my room, and the previous receptionist walked off. She immediately said they couldn't have said that and denied any wrong doing. I explained Rodrigo, I believe his name was, also said the same thing. She said that's impossible as he was not working on 12/03/2026 - when in fact he was - she didn't even check this. Rodrigo arrived whilst I was talking with Shelly and he told her he was working and he did speak with me. Already the staff member Shelly hadn't checked correctly before saying I was making things up. When Shelly asked him why he had said that housekeeping would clean my room on 12/03/2026 he flat out said he didn't. At this point, he looked at me and shouted 'you are a fucking liar'. This was in front of other customers who were also waiting in the lobby and in front of another staff member, Shelly. This was deeply embarrassing in front of everyone and being spoken to in this manner. I calmly told the staff members this is not how you speak to customers and I would be raising an official complaint so wanted their names. Shelly, realising the unfortunate event which just took place, where Rodrigo abused me, tried to move Rodrigo out to the back, however he started shouting his name to me and said 'what are you going to do' repeatedly. I asked to speak with a manager, but Shelly advised there is no manager and would not be one until 3 days later on 16/03/2026. At this point, due to the untenable situation, for my safety, and the rudeness, and aggression with which the receptionists displayed, I checked out 4 days early. Last minute, I had to find and pay peak prices for another hotel to stay for the remaining days of my stay. Not only have I been met with abuse at the hand of staff members, I have had to waste time to find and book another hotel with my own money. Also, there was $100 dollars worth of food left in the fridge which I couldn't take with me as I had no space - which was wasted. I have reached out to management regarding the incident, to no avail. My lawyers have been advised. For a hotel which markets itself as providing a luxury experience, what I can say is that this hotel did provide one thing: the highest level of the worst customer experience. The fact there are plenty of reviews online with the same experience shows upper management has taken no steps to rectify these issues and are completely fine with customers being treated in this manner. There are plenty of better alternatives in New York to spend your money. Even a hostel would be far better than here. Avoid at all costs and save your money and time dealing with incompetent and stupid employees. read more

This was a decent priced hotel for the holiday season. Decent location - great bodega next door and French cafe on the corner. Rooms are apartments. Very spacious unlike most NYC hotels. They have a rooftop bar as well. Not your normal "hotel". - no housekeeping or those type of amenities but clean and perfect for a short trip. read more

I stayed here when I was in town to run the NYC Marathon. This was one of the nicer places that I've stayed at in Manhattan. I was able to get a unit while using my Wyndham Rewards points to cover the 3 night stay. It's located on 1st Ave, near the East River and just north of the United Nations Headquarters. The check-in process was quick and easy. After the necessary paperwork was done, I was given keys to the unit. I hopped on one of the three elevators. I believe the middle one only goes up to the Ophelia Lounge on the 26th floor which I did not visit during my short stay. The staff at the front desk was always very nice and friendly. Although my unit did come with a kitchen, there were plenty of dining options all within walking distance for those that don't want to cook while on vacation. I found everything in my unit to be clean and in good working condition. I was able to easily get to wherever I needed to go for the marathon. I wouldn't mind staying here again for any future visits to NYC. read more

One would think for the money one pays to stay here that one would be treated with at least a little courtesy and the place have some decent accommodations. The unit our family stayed in was decent and clean. The toilet seat cracked after simply lifting it up. We asked for more sheets and towels and were met with utter rudeness and "i don't even know where any of things are" and were told we need to ask before 5. The morning after we checked in, there was no hot water for the kids to take a shower. The free breakfast was pathetic (see photos). There's a reason why this place has a low rating. Be warned. This place almost got two stars because the location is great and the rooftop bar is nice. The hotel accommodations suck so bad I couldn't do it. We stayed 5 nights for just over $1,200, so not super expensive by New York standards but certainly not cheap. We didn't get housekeeping once during our stay. We even requested housekeeping twice and our requests were ignored. We even encountered the housekeepers outside our room and asked them to service our room, and they said no! Wtf? We had to go buy toilet paper. Additionally, the continental breakfast is an absolute joke, and they close it down early sometimes with no warning. I would absolutely recommend finding a better place to spend your money, unless you're coming for drinks and not staying. This is a terribly ran hotel. read more

The staff deserves 5 stars, but overall it is poorly maintained property, if you are renting one bedroom be prepared to sleep on a full size bed. The mattress needed to be replaced a couple of years ago. If you have a child and need a rollaway do not waste your time on it, it is terrible quality. We ended up going to target and purchasing an air mattress. The heater is making very loud clicking noises that wakes you up in the middle of the night . When we asked about it we were told that it is a know issue and nothing could be done about it. One of the evenings our unit smelled of cigarette smoke, it was coming through our kitchen vent. When hotel staff could not figure out where it was coming from we asked for the vent to be covered with plastic. I was expecting that someone will check with me in the morning if the issue was resolved but nobody even bothered to ask. Overall I would not recommend anybody spending their money here, this is not the place to be comfortable in. read more

I like the Beekman tower hotel bar, its an art deco masterpiece. The bar is small and only seats four, and the small terraces are also small, but there are more tables indoors though too. Drinks are on the pricey side, and staff could be quite a bit more pleasant. Its a bit out of the way though, and unless you are staying at the hotel, there really isn't a whole lot of reason to seek this place out, so it remains a quiet little gem that doesn't get the bridge and tunnel crowd. read more

This hotel was a great find! Located in Beekman Place. Very quiet hotel and neighborhood. I explored Sutton Place, walked along the East River and visited the United Nations. Lots of people walking their dogs and there are many grocery stores nearby. This is great because many rooms in this hotel like mine have kitchens. I ate a healthy breakfast in everyday and saved $$$. It's about a 15 minute walk to Rockefeller Center and 20 minutes to Times Square. The rooms were light and spacious, though not as clean as they ought to have been. There were various things left behind including used coffee grounds in the coffee pot. I booked through QuickBook and got a great deal... Probably because the United Nations was out of session. I stayed for 4 days and discovered on the last that 24 Hour Fitness (which I am a member) was only 3 blocks away in the CitiCorp Plaza. Nearest subway stop is also adjacent to that building. You can take that subway to and from JFK via AirTrain. read more

Things not often overheard in New York: "Man, my hotel room is HUGE." I don't know what's going on at the moment (September 2007), but hotel room prices in Manhattan for my recent visit to New York last week were higher than Lindsay Lohan 3 nights after getting out of rehab. My A-game for finding a great hotel room these days is as follows: 1. Open one browser window and go to Kayak.com and set up my dates and pricing filters and get a great set of search results there. 2. Open a new browser window and go to Yelp.com (duh). 3. Look for the cheapest hotel room within the Kayak search filters, and start reading Yelp reviews in the other window. 4. Add water and repeat as necessary. 5. Finally, click on the link on Kayak and go to wherever they choose to take me, to book my room and ensure the good people at Kayak get paid. This is a solid and highly recommended methodology for finding a room, for my money. Thing is, there really were no bargains to be had this last time, no matter how hard I hunted, and somehow one of the remaining (gulp) palatably priced hotels on my list that passed muster with former yelper patrons was the Beekman Towers Hotel in midtown East near UN Plaza. The location is decent. This hotel is a 10 minute power walk from the 6 train station at 51st and Lex. It's relatively easy to Laguardia and JFK. And midtown is pretty, well, central. But, it's dead in that neighborhood. But the main feature is the largeness of the rooms. Mine was a 1 BR suite. I'm not sure who greenlit the suite design back in the day, but it seems sort of crazy in hindsight. It's not fancy per se, but it sure would be a winner for hosting a party simply on its square footage. OK, I'll say it again: "Man, my hotel room was HUGE." This hotel was disgusting. We checked out after just one night even though we were scheduled to stay two. I think my quote was, "Life is too short to stay in a hotel this awful." The bathroom was not clean and was seeping with mold down the wallcovering. We had a HUGE suite that was like an apartment with a bedroom and a sofa bed. The sofa was a stained sofa with a weird novasuede slipcover. We ended up moving over to The Paramount by Times Square (which was more convenient for us anyway considering a conference location) and were really happy to be there. I originally chose this hotel because it seemed charming and was not as expensive as some of the chains. I would not pay more than $50/night to stay here. read more

When we come up to NYC to visit family, we always stay here. The rooms are very large for New York standards. We get a room with a small kitchen & full sized fridge, very useful when you have small children. While it's not the newest or trendiest hotel, it really does have a lot of charm. The staff is very friendly, they allow pets (it's always fun to see people bring their dogs in and out of the hotel.) For what most hotels charge in NYC, this place is very reasonable. Make sure you go to the top floor & walk around the restaurant just to get a great view of the city! read more

No reason to stay here unless you have to be in this part of Manhattan. If you can get a package or a great rate, it's fine. But it's so far east to be out of the flow, unless you need to be across the street at the United Nations. Get something over on 3rd Ave. or Lexington instead. Walks back from Broadway can be long on a cold winter night. The Beekman has a great little bar on top with some nice views and a great piano player. If your hair is as grey as mine, you might enjoy that. Otherwise, the bar two blocks west at the W Hotel is probably more appealing - all of your fellow patrons won't be over 60 or visiting U.N. dignitaries. As an old hotel, the rooms are small. If you do end up here, head north on 1st Avenue for ten blocks (from 49th to 59th) of establishments where the locals drink and party at night. read more

Booked with Travelzoo special. Stayed here 1 night during the week. Was walking distance to Grand Central Station, but off the beaten path and near the UN building. Placed in a the shorter of the two buildings (not the main tower). Was difficult to roll two (2) luggage bags and carry other bags and open the elevator door. The elevator is fast and reliable. The room used radiator heat. The stay was dry and hot because we were unable to control the heat. We had to request for an ironing board, but the staff was very prompt and friendly. The rooms are spacious and are condo/studio style. The traffic noise is uncontrollable, beware if you want to sleep in! Overall, good to great experience. This review is for a short-term stay, less than 30 days. First thing you need to understand is that the bottom floors are designated for short-term stays. The higher floors are corporate housing, longer than 30 days. I'm not sure about whether there is a difference in the apartment amenities between the two. I recently stayed here for 15 nights. The rate was reasonable, less expensive than most hotels. I had a one bedroom apartment with a kitchen. The kitchen was small, but functional (normal for Manhattan) and came stocked with a stove, microwave, refrigerator, pots and pans, plates, silverware and napkins. It also included a dishwasher. The bedroom isn't huge but does include a lot of closet space and a safe. Bed was comfortable, as was the bedding. There are separate heat controls for the living room and bedroom. The living area in my unit included the kitchen, dining area and living area. I saw another unit where the kitchen was a completely separate room. I preferred the more open set-up. Most importantly, the unit was spotless. Housekeeping comes every 4 days to clean and change sheets and towels, seems reasonable to me given the amenities and price. The cleaning staff is really good and pleasant. Some of the units face the street, some of them face other buildings and I'm guessing a few on the higher floors have views of the East River. Yes, the rooms facing the street get noise, but the windows are double pane and do a good job of blocking the noise. I wouldn't recommend leaving the windows open while you sleep, the hotel is right off the tunnel and gets a lot of traffic. Having lived in Manhattan and also stayed in a lot of hotels here, everything about this place is definitely in the zone. You can pay a lot more for a hotel room and end up with a view of a light well or a busy street. It's the way it is in New York. Staff here is very polite and will try to do their best to help you. Just remember, this is New York, stuff sometimes takes time. My cable didn't work, it took a few days to get Verizon to come and fix it. They tried their best, but Verizon blew off their scheduled appointments two days. There is a Concierge in the lobby 24/7 to accept packages and let in food deliveries. There is also always a building engineer on duty. Remember that most of the tenants are longer term corporate rentals, so if you're there for 3 nights you're probably not going to get the same greeting as someone who has lived there for 6 months, that's normal I think. Overall, I thought all the concierges were very good, friendly and professional. I also found the building engineers to be pleasant and helpful. The facility also includes a small, but functional gym with machines, mats and lots of dumbbells. I highly recommend the one bedroom units if you wish to have a bit more room and want to be able to do some light cooking or heating up leftovers during your stay in Manhattan. The only thing that I wish was that the room had a small desk. There aren't a lot of horizontal surfaces in the unit aside from a small coffee table and a two-person dining table. Stayed here this past weekend because of a great deal ($139/night) and was very pleased. The rooms look a little dated but they upgraded us substantially to a larger suite which included a kitchen, dinette, large living area and separate bedroom. Service at front desk fluctuated between somewhat standoffish to very helpful and friendly. I found the views from the rooftop to a great fodder for conversation as well as a place to take some snapshots. The quaint cute hotel is located away from the bustle of regular midtown, but this should be seen as a good thing because it is still relatively tranquil. That is, for tourists. My 'tween nieces and their mom hooked up with me on a recent biz trip. We usually stay in Times Square, as the girls can't get enough of Broadway. This time, I wanted to show them a slice my of my pre-Cali life and my old upper east side 'hood. We chose the Beekman all-suite hotel for the convenient East River location and built-in kitchen--both a rarity for Manhattan hotels. It's located three walk-able blocks from the only subway line that goes to JFK's Airtrain. It's also right beside the UN, so there are plenty of interesting shops and restaurants catering to international tastes. Turns out that Wicked was literally across town and since it was warm, we walked all the way over and back. Suites are huge with large living and dining areas for spreading out and gazing over the city. Bedrooms are normal size and bathrooms are what you'd expect from pre-war buildings. Kitchens were kitted out with a microwave as well as a full size fridge and stove. Just don't leave out the goldfish crackers or you may have a furry visitor scampering on the counter...or so I'm told. The building itself has an interesting history that isn't mentioned or marketed. We only discovered the small plaque beside the entrance as we waited for a taxi. The building was originally built in the 1920s as a sorority dormitory to house the few young women professionals who came to the city to work before ostensibly finding a husband and returning to the 'burbs. Staff are gracious and accommodating--they doted on the girls and made our visit that much more special. We all loved the glass-enclosed rooftop restaurant that snakes around the entire top floor. I still can't believe I lived a mile away for years and never knew about this place...it's perfect for enjoying a quiet meal and a spectacular view with visitors and jaded locals alike. read more

My husband and I had an excellent stay at the Beekman Tower. Our unit had a private balcony on the 20 somethingth floor and was fantastic. The room was spacious and clean and the bathroom was nice and large. The location is ok....its right by the UN which is a nice part of town but there isn't the abundance of restaurants and shops in the area. (I do suggest Pescatore though- http://www.yelp.com/biz/W9wDa_EB0h2p5JG6P6lyZw) I would not hesitate to stay here or at another of the Affinia properties again. Their rates are quite good and you get a lot of room for New York. They often have specials running on their website. read more

Worked very well for an NYC visit with my 12 year old. The room was spacious and clean (no view - sad trombone). Free WiFi worked fine. Continental breakfast is basic (bagels, pastries, coffee and tea), but a nice option to have. The location is within walking distance of transit and Midtown destinations, but off the beaten path and relatively quiet for the city. Very minimal housekeeping (once a week I believe)? I initially found this hotel with Google, and then checked the rates on a couple of best-price consolidators and finally booked via GetARoom.com (tremendous rate for such a spacious room, full kitchen, and private bath in east midtown just north of the UN and Murray Hill). At the price, I truly didn't expect to be the least bit impressed since we only treat our hotel rooms in NYC as a quick stop for naps and showering. However, the spacious room was clean, very roomy, and absolutely charming. The appointments of the room were dated, but if you want decent accommodations at a nice price, by all means you should consider staying here. The mattress was quite firm, but it was not unbearable. The bathroom featured a three-door mirrored medicine cabinet, which offered lots of toiletry storage since the size was a bit snug. The shower head was older and very powerful -- I joked with my husband that you really didn't need to worry about exfoliation products because you'd lose a layer of skin in the shower. The property's location is quiet, and you get a taste of what it might be like to call NYC home. There were three elevators servicing 26 floors, so we never had to wait long for a ride to/from our 8th floor suite. Just across the street, on the corner of 1st and 49th, there is an international gourmet grocery store with lots of interesting items. The Nations Cafe is on the corner across the street from that which features an inexpensive yet quite extensive menu (our breakfast sandwiches we ordered were delicious). At the Beekman Tower, you have the real option of preparing a meal in your room. Our suite featured a four-burner gas range, a microwave, dishwasher, half-size fridge, big stainless steel sink, a small coffee maker, toaster, can opener, corkscrew, dishes, and utensils. We were never in the room long enough to prepare a meal, but having the option for a longer visit (ours was only 4 days) would be ideal. Some patrons who have reviewed this property have voiced complaints about being a little off the beaten path. Get a MetroCard and hop on the bus that stops right in front of the Beekman, then catch a cross-town bus if you don't want to walk a few blocks to the subway's green lines at Lexington and 51st (Grand Central Station is just one stop south, so convenience is just not an issue). Taxis were plentiful thanks to the proximity to the UN. We also walked to Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall within a very leisure 10-minute stroll. Lots of unique restaurants and pubs on 2nd and 3rd Avenues kept us fed and entertained. Sure, there are more posh digs where you can luxuriate and spend a lot more moolah, but you won't find a more professional staff at any price. Bottom line: If your back can take a firm mattress and you are willing to walk a little, taxi around, or navigate the exceptional MTA, here's your hub. read more

Elevators can be very slow. Staff was friendly and accomodating. In my opinion, the rate was reasonable. Didn't use the kitchen but it was nice having a larger than normal fridge and freezer. No desk or chair. Wi-Fi. Good kitchen with stove, microwave, and small frig. A super great market around the corner( Morton Williams, I think on 1st ave?)) Since, we did have a full kitchen. Dude, 800 sq ft. one bedroom. JEEZZ was like I lived there and living well may I add( for a NYorker). This pale was built in the 20's I believe so you get that neighborhoody feel. Well worth it and the price phenomenal. FYI right up 49th st to/on 2nd ave "Press box" great pub restaurant, good food. On 49th "SEO" great sushi , "The Local Store", very cool bar/food, but doesn't look like it. Barely mediocre. Little to no customer service. Booked a room here because the rooftop bar was one of my favorite old haunts in nyc back when I lived there. But it was closed for renovations-- no mention of this anywhere on their booking site though!!! Also when booking requested room with view on upper floor, bathtub, early check in, late check out-- received not a single one! Was told we'd be moved to a better view room but never was! Was told we could access balcony only to find out later we could not! Their computer system down entire weekend so no room keys issued-- had to wait for maintenance to let us back in every time we went out! But nice big clean room in a great building & neighborhood. So not all bad. read more

It's cheaper to stay here than it is to lease an apartment, plus it's furnished and you don't have to get approved by the building board. If you stay there, make sure to ask for the doorman Iman. He's been there for like 30 years I believe. He can tell you stories about Sinatra being there and Katherine Hepburn, royalty. He's a gem. read more
