I love this place, it's like a hidden gem. Very large, modern and overall nice spot. The staff is super friendly. Yes, they don't serve food at this time, but we were told we can bring outside food. Let's be honest, in some ways I really do prefer a slice of pizza with my beers anyway. This used to be Shelley's, a real no-frills dive that recently closed after about 70 years, dating to when the neighborhood was largely Irish. Another longtime area pub, The Starting Gate, across the street, is also getting a makeover now. I met up here the other day with a friend visiting from out of town, and it was a pretty positive experience. Nice beer selection; the house brew is good and had a Fat Tire too. $7 pints for this area is not cheap, though. There was live music in the front, but you could still have a conversation. Lots of seating, high tables and stools in the front and chairs in the back. While they did a nice job with the renovation (kinda looks like a chateau inside), the bar does have its downsides: no kitchen/food, no back patio, and no pool table or darts. It's strictly a sit and drink place, and maybe talk and listen to music. Unfortunately, what Beerkeeper lacks means it doesn't really stand out from other bars in Woodside and Sunnyside, most of which serve food, some of which have live music, and more than few of which have a back patio. I will probably be back for a drink or two at some point. read more

Tipped him for each beer then asked about the buyback policy which apparently is just for white patrons as he took offense to the question then accused me of cursing. I'm not even black. This place has a hilariously minimal beer selection that a corner deli would be embarrassed to have, and then the bartender gave us one sample of beer for two people and then complained when we asked for another... Then he proceeded to hand us a check for $28.50 for 2 beers without an itemized price for each beer. We asked why it was that much and he "misstook" the 28 for an 18... sure. This is the second bad experience I've had at this place out of 2 visits total. Will not be back. read more

It's pretty cool. It's very new. It still smells like fresh wood and plastic wrap. I came here last week with a work friend of mine for a few drinks after work. Food is still forthcoming. It's a solid Irish bar, although this place feels like it belongs in Astoria. It feels very caught in the middle of who their audience is. Is it the local Irishmen or the overflowing hipsters from Astoria? Their stay is still young, so I suppose they still have time to decide. I hope they add to their beer offerings with a kitschy name like they have. Nothing out of the ordinary here. read more

Recently held my husband's surprise 40th birthday here and can't say enough about how wonderful this bar is. The owners are absolutely lovely, and were so helpful and accomodating from the the time I inquired through the night itself. Great draft beer selection, great cocktails, great bartenders in beautifully renovated bar with live bands appearing regularly. This is our second time here. We consistently find staff unfriendly and food unavailable when we come. Bummer because its so cute.

Stopped by last night after a friend and I made an emergency stop for some pizza at Pizza Boy next door. I grew up in Woodside and remember this being a random little bar but I was a kid and didn't really pay attention. Fast forward 20 years and I really needed a drink before heading to Music Hall of Williamsburg for a show. There were a few people inside having drinks and the bartender, who I really regret not getting his name, was a total sweetheart and took care of us immediately. He gave me a good tequila recommendation and didn't make fun of the fact that I, a Mexican, had to ask how you do tequila shots with the salt and lime as I always just take them straight lol. Was kinda drunk at the end of the night but still sober enough to actually be shook at the prices, so cheap! would've barely gotten 2 drinks at the venue when compared to what we had at the Beerkeeper. I'll def make an effort to hit up this bar whenever I'm in the area. read more

Great Bar, a nice selection of beers and a top notch cocktail list. My husband had the pumpking beer served with the rim and I had the prickly pear margarita both were delicious. I went to see a friend after getting off the train (such convenient location), and even though he was massively late, I didn't feel like I was sitting at a bar alone because the bartender made me feel so at home.
