I was visiting family in Chicago and went to lunch with my son in law's 92 year old grandmother; she suggested we go to The Bellevue. We started with the Meatball, and I capitalized it for a reason. The picture I attached really doesn't do justice to the size; we easily split it. I always ask for extra marinara, in this case, San Marzano was noted on the menu and it was a delicious sauce. The pleasant surprise though, was the cheesy polenta, hidden under the marinara. It added a rich dimension to the sauce and I found myself eating some of it separately. The meatball itself was very tasty, seasoned perfectly, and tender. I did want to mention we ordered the 'bread option' with the meatball, and what a great decision that was. A large, warm round loaf was served with a few tasty spreads, but we opted to soak up the extra marinara with most of it. It was a very good bread. We both ordered the broiled salmon, which came with potatoes and a vegetable. After we had finished the meatball, and most of the bread, our server came back and told us, the restaurant had discontinued the salmon platter at lunch time. We could order a piece of salmon, which typically goes on top of salads, and she said we could order potatoes and a veggie separately, but not together (we could order a la carte). We were so full from the bread and meatballs and sauce, we just opted for a piece of the broiled salmon. The fish was very good; broiled nicely, tender and moist. We had the best time celebrating the mothers in our family. Service was phenomenal! I can't say enough about how friendly, lively and attentive Luis is. He really made sure every one of us enjoyed everything served or found alternatives and made recommendations that were all very helpful and seamless for some of our pickier eaters. Really enjoyed the spicy cauliflower appetizer, the ahi tuna tartar was alright but did not have much flavor to it. For entrees we got the carbonara and the bolognese. Friend brought me out for a nice patio dinner, the patio is lovely but the service is what made our night so great. Haley (red hair) is fantastic--very personable and made great recommendations. I have been to Bellevue a couple of times since it changed from the old Tavern on Rush and its a solid replacement. Very popular joint and can get packed at any moment. Because of that fact, I normally grab a bar seat and have a pretty good time...always a vibrant atmosphere. Just an FYI, they take reservations if you want a table. There is an upstairs dining room and bar if its too packed downstairs. Jose Luis is an upstairs bartender thats very cool and great for conversation. Now onto the food! The Hamachi Tartare and Grilled Octopus are really good starters/appetizers. I was convinced by the upstairs bartender Jose Luis that the Fire Roasted Pork Chop would be great to devour and he was right. Very good piece of pork on top of apple chutney. I was told the rigatoni is very good so that will be my next dish here. Jose Luis even made me a special expresso ice cream dessert that isnt on the menu. Good presentation and good taste. I tend to always go with the Smoky Orchard when I come here as its a mezcal cocktail with compari, vermouth and spiced apple syrup...a great cocktail! Espresso martini is good as well. Where do I even start with this incredible meal? When you walk in, it's beautifully decorated and the staff are quick to greet you warmly. Went here on a work dinner and it was the perfect place for it. The ambiance is warm, inviting, and chic with some light noise. The drinks I had were the espresso martini and the strawberry mule- both highly recommended options. Couldn't tell you which ones better, but if you have it in you for both, I would do it. The bread service appetizer was wonderful, we loved all three of the dips it came with. The cheese was a noticeable winner, the herb one was great, and the table was split on the bone marrow (i personally liked it). We got the beef skewers as well and they surely did impress! Would come back for those and drink alone. For my meal I did restaurant week, so I tried the meatballs and some of the octopus as well- both wonderful! Loved the two of them equally. The squid ink pasta was astonishing. I saw someone leave a review about how it MUST be added to the permanent menu and i couldn't agree more. I would order that over and over again. I've only come here for drinks since they've opened and decided that it was time to try out the food. I went for brunch and I have to say I was a little disappointed. The ambience was nice. I had a beautiful brunch at the Bellevue this weekend! It's a gorgeous place and there is outdoor seating that is perfect for a summer day! The restaurant is decorated beautifully and there are some nice spots to take pretty pictures! I tried the crab cake with fries and the Bellevue for my cocktail! This was not our first time at Bellevue. We have been there for dinner before as well. We have a NY day tradition to go to Gold coast for brunch. This year we went to the Bellevue and loved it! The service is on point and the interior is nicely decorated! The brunch menu was a lot more affordable and the drinks were delicious! I got the crab cakes benedict and they were very good and a decent portion as well. The breakfast potatos were very well seasoned and super tasty. My bf got eggs and steak and he said that they were pretty good but not enough, so he finished mine. We also finished brunch with two celebratory tequila shots to begin the new year right. The beer selection is terrible and their house beer is absolutely disgusting. I ended up sending it back and replaced with another, not much better.
