My friend, his sister and I were pleasantly surprised with our food at the Bellevue. I thought the menu items were a little pricey, but once you bite into them... it's so worth it. We all ordered cosmopolitans which were superb! I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and it comes in 3 pieces. My friend ordered the burger which looked incredible! His sister ordered the oysters for the table and shared part of her pizza. Our waitress was very accommodating and quick to deliver anything we needed. The restaurant has a cool air throughout and plays the music just loud enough to hear it and talk to your friends. We enjoyed the Bellevue and will certainly be back soon. read more

I miss Tavern, but this space was done beautifully. However, the food and drinks for the prices just don't cut it in my opinion. Service was excellent in the bar area, but our food took a while and was not great. The chopped salad was nothing special, and the spicy charred broccolini was not spicy and was cold when it came out. The fries were the leftover short ones at the end of the basket. Cocktails are $20, and my spicy margarita was not even that great! Love the atmosphere but would stray away from ordering here again. read more

If you like a quaint setting that harkens to a Paris corner, and you don't mind mediocre, overpriced food and indifferent service that borders on the passive aggressive, this is your place. You can pay $75+ per person and have a blonde young lady greeter ignore you while another greeter (guy with a beard) busts out in a snarky laugh after you politely complain! Good times. It's a beautiful setting, but the greeters really killed the vibe. Seriously, there are 5-6 much better places within a couple city blocks. Make a better choice. read more

My husband and I took my mother-in-law for lunch on a Wednesday. What they do well: the outdoor seating location is the best in the city. Sunlight surrounded by vibrant Gold Coast shoppers and clinging wine glasses. It's a nice ambiance. The food is nothing to be excited about though. I never want to be harsh but my husband didn't feel so hot after ordering the tomato soup and chicken entree. He often complains about his stomach so I don't want to blame Bellevue but I digress. My mother-in-law LOVED the salmon and the side salad. Note: the side salad isn't on the menu, we had to beg them to just do a simple plate of greens and red onion as the salad option that comes with the salmon isn't her vibe (it's like a citrus tropical fennel mango garnish situation and kinda gross) and the waiter told us it was more of a garn ish The prices are high and it doesn't feel great getting nickled and dimed for things like bread service which is free across the street at Gibsons. The Applebees of the Gold Coast. I don't see it as a place people will go for the food but rather a good seat in the city. read more

The Bellevue is in the old Tavern on Rush location which was a Gold Coast staple in our family, we eagerly went to brunch to check out the new restaurant. It was fairly busy (it was Sunday afternoon) but they were able to seat 4 of us no problem. The vibe was lively and the music was nice in the background - aka I wasn't worried about my children talking at the restaurant, which put me at ease. There were TVs on the first floor so it was nice to watch some basketball. Our server was good and took our order right away. We ordered the french toast and the kitchen split it for the kids which was so thoughtful and a huge hit with the kiddos. The chantilly cream was incredible and eaten by the spoonful by the kiddos. I got the eggs benedict and hashbrowns which was standard, nothing special but tasted good. We also tried the chilaquiles which were good too but again nothing unique about it. We also got cheesy hashbrowns which were perfectly cheesy. read more

Finally made my way to The Bellevue to see the new menu they offered. The menu is very similar to Tavern on Rush. The atmosphere is more modern while offering the same set up as before. Service is great, they were attentive and accommodating the entire time. The Hamachi Tartar was delicious but the Tuna Crudo had absolutely zero flavor. The Crab Cakes were delicious but not worth $50. The shrimp cocktail was great, especially with their mustard aioli. The Bellevue is a great social restaurant to get drinks and appetizers but I wouldn't except too much from the food. read more

The Bellevue very much feels like an attempt to re-create Tav. You really can't duplicate that magic -- to me, what made Tav special was the people. The Bellevue definitely has a place in Gold Coast, but there's opportunity to develop it's own identity. We sat in the bar area which was very lively - a great place to spend a Saturday night. We really enjoyed our drinks - loved the Vesper, Smoky Orchard and Spicy Margarita. My guy found the house beer to be just ok and the can felt unusually greasy. The menu wasn't spectacular and there wasn't a theme - a mix of street food, steak, seafood, italian, etc; I'm bias as I do love a menu with a theme. The food was just ok - we had the Fried Beef Wontons, Pork Skewers (not enough seasoning), Burger and Caesar Salad (delicious). I'd definitely recommend Bellevue's bar area for an after dinner spot due to the atmosphere and drinks. If I were to eat there again, I probably wouldn't order more than a salad. read more

First I'd like to say I was a bit skeptical about this place as I was NOT a big fan of tavern on rush but I'm glad I gave it a shot. First our waitress was amazing she was so accommodating and made sure what came out was perfect. The food was good I ordered basic things (oysters bread and fries with Parmesan and spicy mayo) the only thing I didn't like was that they split the oysters east and west coast I prefer east coast (this is just preference) I also ordered a pistachio cake dessert - not shown and quite honestly I kind of liked it a lot it wasn't too sweet so if you're looking for decadent sweetness probably not for you but I rather enjoyed it!! I was a Tavern patron for years; long before it closed in December of last year and was reincarnated by new owners in May of this year. The location is still amazing! That alone makes the new owners investment a stone cold winner. The amount of money these nice people put into this dwelling was significant; and it shows. It's really quite lovely. But alas, I'm going to call what we went through today at lunch at The Bellevue as "growing pains". It's only two months old and they're are some hiccups that need to be tended: * Their lunch menu was either appetizers or full blown full course dinners? They didn't offer any lunch fare. I really wanted a club sandwich or a BLT or some small plate of anything that spelled "Lunch". I ended up with a humungous cheeseburger that will certainly kill whatever I was going to have for dinner tonight. * My wife's Rush St. salad was just lazy. It was like the chef threw things into a bowl, added dressing and sent it to our table. The salami wasn't cut, the peprocinni wasn't chopped and the my wife had the cut the rather large tomatoes into quarters. Here's the rub - the food itself was very good! Just not well curated and certainly not polished. The Bellevue is certainly on the right track in terms of turning this beautiful establishment into a force of nature. I'm pulling for them for where they are located is probably my favorite people watching corner in Chicago. Good luck guys! read more

What a disappointment!! The food was blah and tasteless, nothing exciting at all. They changed the color of the awning on the restaurant and that's it. The decor is horrible. Lots of young waiters who can't remember anything. The street is dirty and there is dirt from the rebuild of Carmines next door. We were harassed by beggars on the street. It is extremely overpriced. Let me preference this review by stating, I was a patron of Tavern on Rush for over 20 years--it was my "go-to" place for good food and drinks- and I always took out-of-town guests to Tavern! So when I finally got over my heartbreak over Tavern's closing, I made a reservation at Bellevue only to arrive and be informed that seating is first come basis! Seated upstairs, had a vodka martini and the chicken sandwich, both of which, were so-so. The sandwich would be passable if the chef melted the cheese and heated the bun. Financially, this place does NOT stand a chance--the quality of food and poor drink mixology can't justify the high price being requested, and the overhead for 2 floors of staff is unsustainable. Just like it's counterpart Yardbird down the street, expect a new iteration of these restaurants within 1 year! read more

Two stars for our funny and attentive server, but that is IT! We shared the pizza which undoubtedly came frozen, baked and served. Def not fresh-made, I promise you. We shared the chicken sandwich (late Friday afternoon lunch) another frozen piece of meat rolled in heavy bread crunchies and deep fried with some coleslaw (?) added on top, in a meh bun. Terrible!!! Fries were limp but tasty. Let's be honest, this location was never really frequented for the stellar food it served but by the too obvious "lady" watchers wishing they were 25. Well, I'm here to tell you that nothing has changed. It's the same men with the same faces, seated at the same tables of 4 or 6, drinking away while holding court, demanding their usual tables while others are shoved to the side street to dine. I had hoped the new owners would change that and up their food game, alas, I was wrong. Not sure I will ever go back unless they consciously improve their menu and offer us something worthy of the prices they charge. This was like eating at a 24hr diner but with Gold Coast prices.
