The space feels brighter, cleaner, and more modern, with additional seating that helps when they're busy (which they definitely were during our visit). I came here for a Sunday morning breakfast with family, and as someone with celiac disease, I always pay close attention to gluten-free options. I was pleasantly surprised by how many choices they offer. They have gluten-free pancakes, gluten-free French toast, gluten-free bread (which I had with my omelet), and even gluten-free wraps for sandwiches. It's refreshing to see a diner that clearly put thought into accommodating gluten-free diners. The menu has also expanded overall, with plenty of options for non-gluten-free eaters. I ordered the Southwest omelet with gluten-free toast and was satisfied with my meal. At our table, one family member ordered the stuffed waffle (which looked really good), and another had the short ribs Benedict. The Benedict was tasty, but the English muffin was a bit overcooked and we were expecting a bit more short rib on the plate. Service was attentive despite how busy it was. Our server checked in on us regularly, and when they noticed we were going through a lot of water, they kindly left a pitcher at the table, which was very appreciated. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, especially during peak hours, but they do utilize a nearby convenience store lot for additional parking, which helps. They also have a great-looking dessert case, but we were way too full to try anything this time--hopefully next visit. Overall, this is a solid diner option that works well for families, groups with mixed dietary needs, or even a late-night bite. With a wide-ranging menu and breakfast served all day, there's truly something for everyone. read more

I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but in this case I felt it was necessary. We stopped in today at 8 AM for a Mother's Day breakfast. It was not crowded when we arrived. The host at the desk didn't even look up for literally three minutes. When he finally did, he was preoccupied a d seemed annoyed with us..he grabbed the menus, brought us to a booth, tossed the menus on the table, and basically walked away. No hello, no Happy Mother's Day, no "your server will be with you shortly." It then took about 20 minutes just to get a cup of coffee and we had to ask to be waited on We placed our food order at the same time, and about 20 minutes later the waitress came back and asked us to confirm what we ordered. Needless to say, everything took forever after that, including getting the check. We were in the diner for about an hour and a half. Everyone understands restaurants can be busy on Mother's Day, but it wasn't busy when we got there, and even when places are busy, no one should be spending an hour and a half in a diner for breakfast. What's disappointing is that this is actually the second time we've been there since the renovation, and unfortunately we had the same experience with the service both times. From now on, we'll gladly take the extra 20-minute ride to the River Edge Diner in River Edge. The service, food, and staff there are excellent, and you actually feel welcome and happy to be there. Food here was OK, but the service and overall experience were disappointing. We will not be going back. read more

We live very close and liked the diner before the renovation. Since, it's loud, and food is sub par, and service has taken a nose dive. Bathrooms were smelly and out of paper towels. Our wait staff took our order with facial expressions of annoyance. We received our food 45 mins after ordering, with empty cups and no refills. Only a "2 minutes" while walking by every 15 mins, no explanation. only after we finished eating, did she blame kitchen while others received their food, while ordering after us. It was a terrible experience and with a whole lot of wait for cold food. We do not plan on going back and will encourage everyone we know to try elsewhere. Went to the Ridge Diner today for lunch. It looks beautiful, the interior was redone and updated. Food was ok, we each ordered a Turkey on rye, a little dry but ok otherwise. Service was not great, not a very friendly waitress, felt like we were putting her out. Host on the other hand was a very friendly young lady who made us feel welcome. We came for a Sunday morning breakfast -- it was definitely busy, but there were still tables available and the wait was minimal. The new decor looks very clean, fresh, and updated. They've done a nice job modernizing the space while still keeping that classic diner feel. It seems like they refresh things every 15 years or so, and this renovation feels very current. While we were there for breakfast, this is still very much a full-service diner with an extensive menu that runs all day -- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dinner options range from classic comfort food and sandwiches to pasta dishes, burgers, and more traditional diner entrées, making it an easy spot if everyone at the table wants something different. Breakfast overall was good. Coffee was decent, and I appreciated that it comes with a small pitcher so you can top it off yourself. The Cali crab cakes were excellent -- essentially a crab cake Benedict, and the cakes themselves were really tasty. The California omelet was also nicely balanced and well executed. The only miss for us was the potatoes. They looked more like sliced, boiled potatoes without much sear or crispness -- not really what you expect from diner-style hash browns. Service was fine but not especially proactive. Our server would bring things when we asked, but didn't really check in on how the food was or see if we needed anything. One thing that definitely caught my eye: the milkshakes going to another table looked stunning. We didn't order one this time, but they're on the list for next visit. I also appreciated how easy it was to pay the check by scanning a QR code right at the table -- quick and convenient, especially when it's busy. And...no credit card fee, which is always nice to see! After a full renovation, they re-opened a few days before Christmas, did a complete upgrade and modernized the restaurant. Service was quick, friendly staff with a cozy atmosphere. We had the left over pasta which is exactly what you think. A mix of "leftovers" mixed together. Looked odd but it worked nicely. Turkey burger was moist but was messy to eat. Avocado and steam from the patty completely destroyed the bread and it eventually just flattened up and was a hot mess. Maybe not add the avocado? Chili cheese fries were a tad spicy which was pretty tasty. Overall, it's good to have a classic diner nearby when you want simple, no fuss kinda meal. I'll be back for sure. read more

The name of this breakfast item is misleading because the french toast isn't actually stuffed; it's more like a sandwich. The strawberry flavored cream cheese is not infused inside the toast. Thin sliced potatoes, more suitable for scalloped potatoes than "home fries". WTF? Bacon? crunchy, crispy, exactly what I DID NOT WANT. I dug in and immediately detected in the first mouthful some odd off flavor. Metallic. Chemical. Could not discern whether it was the potatoes, the spinach, or what. The diner had been closed for renovations. It has now done a soft opening, and we were lucky enough to hear from a friend that they had reopened. The renovation is lovely! They have increased the space for ~40 diners, along with the beautiful renovations to the booths, ceiling, and flooring. It feels much more expansive, with the soft lighting and considerably improved sound system. While people go to a diner for ambiance, what keeps people coming back is the food. I am so happy to report that the food was delicious! I have always enjoyed the burgers at the diner, and today it was better than ever. Cooked perfectly, and served on a soft, seeded bun with lettuce, tomato, coleslaw and a pickle. My friend had one of the grilled cheese choices, and she enjoyed that as well. The desserts are especially memorable! They make their desserts on site, and my key lime pie was very generous and delicious! My friend had the tapioca pudding, which was also delicious. The Ridge is known for its cheesecake, and next time we will save room for a slice of cheesecake! I am so happy that this iconic diner is still here and better than ever! read more

First time here and I was pleasantly surprised with the service that I received. Waitress/waiter were very prompt and on point with the refills and order taking as well as delivery. The diner itself has a very homey atmosphere. Almost like everyone is family which is not as bad as it sounds, lol. I ended up ordering a western omelette (which was delicious) however the home fries were pretty bland, especially since the omelette had such flavor to it. We've enjoyed many meals at The Ridge Diner over the years, but lately service has been slipping. We've tried to continue supporting, but today was the final straw. We were seated quickly as we walked in. After that, it was almost 10 minutes before a waitress came to ask for our drink order. We ordered our drinks. When the drinks arrived, we placed our food order. We waited for quite awhile and the diner was not too busy. Maybe about half the tables in the diner were being utilized. About 20 minutes after receiving our original drinks, our waitress came back and brought us refills. We waited another 20 minutes and still no food or even a check-in from our waitress. Then we noticed 2 tables of people that walked in well after we ordered our meals received their meals. At this time we had been sitting at our table drinking iced teas for 47 minutes. We left cash on the table to cover our iced teas and left. I doubt anyone even noticed. We then headed to the Pearl River Diner for our meals. We should've just started there in the first place. It's sad becuase we have gone to the Ridge Diner for years, but after slowly slipping in service and then today's events, we will not be back. read more

Ridge recently renovated and must have changed there operating system and not taught anyone how to use it. I was waiting at the front desk for 10 minutes waiting for the guy behind the counter to acknowledge anyone. When he finally found the time to ask me how many in my group, and I told him just me and I could go sit at the empty counter don't need a table, he did not say a word to me just started messing around on his computer again. After another 10 minutes of nothing out of the guy I just gave up and left. Have never been super impressed by the food there has always been bland typically only go due to the convenience of the location. My suggestion go check out pearl river diner not as aesthetically pleasing as ridge but I think the food is far superior. read more

The more I dine here the more I like the Ridge Diner, especially when I am out with my young kids. The food is not complicated and yet it always satisfies. A great examples is their breakfast burrito. It's basically eggs, cheap salsa, and American cheese. I love it. Today I had a buffalo chicken wrap that was seriously lacking sauce. But I still thoroughly enjoyed it. (Child had chicken fingers, always a winner). Other favorites with my family include the granola pancakes, gyro, and cranberry chicken wrap. WORST MEAL OF MY LIFE. As soon as we walked in, the host and entire staff looked unhappy, unfriendly, and had bad attitudes. Host was a rude man who was very dismissive of customers and their seating requests. No smiles. No customer service whatsoever. Once we were seated at the booth, we waited about half an hour before a server came to take our order. Servers were all over the place catering to different tables. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my boyfriend ordered whole wheat pancakes. We waited for another half hour... we asked our server(s) to check on our meal. They seemed confused. It was obvious they forgot to put the orders in... once our food arrived, the REAL disappointment kicks in. HOW DO YOU MESS UP CHICKEN TENDERS?! My chicken looked fake and rubbery. The presentation was AWFUL. Just downright ugly... my high school cafeteria made better meals than this. I didn't eat the chicken, just the waffle because I was starving. It's not the best. We came here recently after a dance convention in the nearby area. We weren't greeted with a welcoming, instead it was a "table for 2?" the host looked very unhappy. We were then sat at a table near the back. The table was dirty, crumbs all over the table and seats along with dirty napkins covering them as well. We waited around 10 minutes till the waiter asked what we wanted to drink, we ordered our drinks and then she didn't come back for another 5-9 minutes. We asked her if we could move tables and she said "Oh, I guess." We moved tables and she then moved on to another table. She was gone for 20 minutes and never came back to assist us until another worker asked us if we needed assistance. Absolutely absurd. The next waiter we had was very friendly. Only person who looked like they wanted to be there. Speaking of service, there was an extreme amount of cameras and sensors, for what purpose? We got our food after another 25 minutes. My son ordered French Toast and I ordered a grilled cheese with fries, tomato's, etc. The fries weren't crispy and tasted a little mushy. The French toast was mediocre and it wasn't warm. Food was OKAY at best. Grilled Cheese was also decent. Anywho, we paid the check at the front, the guy at the desk made a comment to my son as well followed by "I just like joking with the kids." I hope the remodel of the diner inside and out helps them but I'm not coming back ever, it's just lacking in quality and taste to me. Right off the main road in downtown Park Ridge is the beloved Ridge Diner. This diner describes itself as a "diner with a classic 70s vibe". Although currently going through construction on the outside, the inside has all the aspects of a vintage diner. I decided to go with the chicken Caesar wrap which comes with a side of fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. The food was fresh and hit the spot. After my dinner I treated myself with a chocolate milkshake which was delicious. The staff were very welcoming and the service was excellent. We stopped in for lunch the other day and they weren't very busy yet it took forever for the waitress to come over. We started with drinks and French onion soups, we also ordered our sandwiches at that time, a Reuben and a Reuben burger. After we ordered it look another 10 minutes to get drinks. When she finally came over she didn't bring lemons and we had to wait again. Finally the French onion soups arrived, they were good, not terrible, not great, just good. The sandwiches came out shortly after. On the Reuben there wasn't really any sauerkraut and she forgot the Russian dressing on the side. As for the burger, also no Russian dressing. Again had to find her, ask for dressing and wait. The food wasn't bad just mediocre diner food but the service. The service was awful our waitress had a very unfriendly look on her face the whole time, not just at our table but as she wandered around. read more

They are usually very busy or understaffed so if you are looking for a quick bite, this may not be the right place. An old school favorite that is every inch as good today as it was back when I smelled like teen spirit. I've had just about every dish at one point or another and everything is delicious at any hour. Mid afternoon or well after midnight. It's the best diner in the area hands down. If you're in NY just slide across the state line for some really good food.
