I went to the bicycle stand because I was having a "clanking" sound coming from my Cannondale road bike. Evan (the owner of the shop) told me the issue was the plastic bearings in the rear wheel...and that I would need to replace it or get a new wheel. He gave me an estimate of the cost of labor as $45 and the part was $70. I paid for the part and then weeks later....I contacted him and he told me the part was in and I could bring my bike in on a Saturday for the repair. I left my bike and he repaired it and Evan called me on Monday to let me know the bike was ready and no more "clanking"--so I go to the shop and the cost for the labor was $65 instead of the $45 that Evan quoted me....I wasn't too happy with the increase but thought if the bike is all good...then it would be worth the cost. So...I rode the bike out of the shop after asking Evan...did you ride my bike and you're sure there's no more "clanking" and he assures me that he took the bike for a long ride and he repeats no more "clanking". As soon as I leave the shop...the "CLANKING" starts and I think WTF? So I bring my bike back to Evan and ask him to please go ride my bike and make sure he too hears the "CLANKING" because I'm feeling like I'm going nuts since he said he rode my bike and no clanking. Well...he rides my bike and comes back and I ask him...did you hear the "CLANKING" and he says--YES. I ask...if you fixed the bike then why is it still making that "clanking" sound and he then proceeds to tell me that I would have needed to replace the plastic bearings in the rear wheel eventually because they would leave me on the road stranded....however the CLANKING is because I need to replace my bottom bracket...which will cost $65+ dollars. Now...to be clear I'm not only upset about spending extra money that I didn't need to spend...but Evan never once apologizes or tells me that since he misdiagnosed the bike "clanking"-----and I think that is what really bothers me. I understand that people make mistakes but he's the OWNER of the shop and didn't take any responsibility for the mishap! I'm never going back to the shop and yes...they probably don't care because they were overwhelmed and extremely busy with lots of people in the store but I just feel so frustrated that I needed to put my review out there for Evan and the rest of Long Beach to read. read more

The new space is nice and they do offer a wide variety of absolutely beautiful bike accessories at competitive prices. Bike repair is a bit more on the 'meh' and pricey side--at least in our experience. Took in a bike for a major repair and tune-up. Bike was promised on a certain date. Instead, it was weeks late and no one communicated about the delay. The place is very social, so maybe they just expect everyone to keep popping in? Eventually we got the bike back and the work was decent. Front line staff is super friendly, cheerful and helpful. I highly recommend this place for the helmets and accessories, not so much for bike repairs or maintenance. read more

I don't understand all the great reviews of "the bicycle stand." I never write reviews, but was compelled to, due to such a terrible experience. Initially, I came here based on all the positive reviews, because my bike is a vintage, 1989, Rossin Italian road bike. I was met with bullshit attitude, but I thought, they work on vintage bikes, so you'd expect them to be able to put together one. Wrong! I had new bottom bracket, new headset, NOS seatpost, NOS stem and handlebars. First, the mechanic, gouged my headset multiply and blamed the head tube wasn't fully round. And it had been previously honed. Second, he did the same to my campagnolo bottom bracket n cranks, the bottom bracket cups looked like a gorilla with zero knowledge put it on. He even put different crank bolts on, not the titanium crank bolts, I brought in. All the other parts were scratched and terribly attached. Eric wouldn't accept responsibility nor would he acknowledge his terrible application of the build. I was so bummed that I ended up selling the frame, fork, n all the gouged and scratched parts. Not to mention the bad taste "the bicycle stand," left. I would never take a bike here for a build or repair. Do yourself a favor and seek a reputable, reliable and responsible bike shop. read more

What a great experience. Today, I took my wife's city bike in for a tune-up and was greeted as I walked in the door. Evan told me what would be done and said when it would be ready...straight out answers...amazing! Next, I asked him for information on a new road bike, as that was our Christmas gift decision. He laid out all the options, and was clear on what was a good starter, explaining options and differences. It made so much sense, that I called my wife and told her she needed to come in as she always has better questions than I do and again, Evan patiently reviewed options in great detail, never trying to up-sell, and offering information on local rides and store events. This was customer service at its finest, just I had read in other reviews. We even got a test-ride and made our informed purchase by ordering a Bianchi that had my wife giddy about the purchase! Great local bike shop with most friendly staff that is passionate about biking, knows how to fix and set up bikes and has great quality products. Their pricing is very reasonable and they fix all our bikes well and fast, from my vintage 3 speed to my mountain bikes to my road bikes. I don't go to the larger bike chain stores, they don't come even close to the bicycle stand. They moved from a tiny shop to a much bigger and nicer place. These guys are my heroes. They save me EVERY TIME I've gone to them with a problem or service request on my bike. Danny is a whiz at fixing things and the prices for service are reasonable. The shop is great, but prepare yourself for that new Broadway parking if bringing your bike by car. It's absolutely doable in spite of its novelty, but might take tying up traffic a little. Shop local! We were looking for folding bikes and walked into The Bicycle Stand without much expectation. We were helped right away and had all of our many questions answered. They even allowed us to take the bikes for a spin! We were given exceptional service and honest advice. There were more customers when we came back from our joy ride and it was a bit harder to get one-on-one attention. The staff did their best to cater to all the customers that came in all at once that Sunday afternoon and I would recommend coming in on a weekday when they are less busy if you have a bunch of questions to get answered. We ended up placing an order for a bike and picked it up when it was shipped there. I looked around after checking this place and can say that their prices are competitive. I recently took in my vintage 1976 Schwinn Suburban bicycle for a tune-up. The bicycle mechanic Josh did an excellent job tuning my bike up. My bike has never ridden better. He fixed things on my bicycle that I didn't even realize needed fixing and I'm grateful for it. You have to make an appointment for a tune-up and you are without a bicycle for a couple days, but it is well worth the wait. read more

Came here with my husband on a late Sunday afternoon to pick up our bikes, and I'm so glad we found this place! The shop is located in a cute little locals area in the vicinity of Downtown Long Beach, so it worked out perfectly for us to ride our bikes back home along the beach path after we bought our bikes. I don't recall the names of any of the employees that helped me, but i got serviced by four people and I can not figure out who I liked more. After we bought our bikes, it was repeated about 10x by each person to come back in any time if we have any issues. We felt so welcomed... especially considering the fact that we just moved to the neighborhood about four months ago. Prices are decent; my husband and I didn't do much shopping around. We just picked a shop and went to buy bikes... but we didn't feel ripped off whatsoever. We bought two Linus bikes and felt that we made very informed decisions despite knowing absolutely nothing about bikes... speaks to the thoroughness of the staff in helping us choose the most appropriate bikes! We test drive a couple, and we both ended up choosing the first one that the staff recommended. We added on some extras to our bikes which were very affordable, and installed immediately by their technicians. Everybody was so easy to talk to. I would come back here in a heartbeat. We are so happy to have this place down the street from us! read more

Long Beach claims it's a bicycle friendly town. That is a very true statement but the bike shops and Long Beach are the worst I've experienced. I decided to give this place a shot hoping to restore my faith in bike shops. I took a wheel in to be trued. The next day it was ready to be picked up. I couldn't wait to get this wheel because I have been putting together a Touring bike. The wheel had a slight low spot. The next day I put the wheel on my bike and it seemed worse then when I brought it in. I called several times no one answers the phone and you can't leave a message because their mailbox was full the three days I tried. The owner quickly responded to me by email and apologized. Offered to do it himself and refund my money. The reason why the wheel was terrible. Because is it was never done. I accepted the reason why and because things just happen good and bad. So I took my wheel back and was met by the mechanic. Jokingly I said you know for the inconvenience can you show me how to adjust a rear derailleur your way and tighten my headset. Again I ran into another bike mechanic that could care less about you as a customer, so when he got done showing me. He told me what he charges to adjust a derailleur and tighten a headset and so the $20 that I paid to have my wheel done was a break even. Strike one - bad communication among coworkers Strike two - when you already inconvenience a customer to begin with. Haggle over $20 What is my time worth? To the Bicycle Stand. Absolutely nothing. Maybe that's why there's never any customers in there when I'm in there. And I don't do strike threes read more

Just came out of this place. The cool bike shop guy at the downtown Art district referred me that place as i have a vintage schwim. Well the guy dealing with me was kind of undermining the fact that i was there just to ask tubes as i know how to do those kind of things. Yes not only hipsters guys know about bikes... Woman too!!!! My two experiences have overall been good. The folks that work there REALLY know their stuff about bikes, and when I needed work done, offered to do a few extras like toss in batteries on my rear light (as long as I brought the battery in, which is totally cool) and adjust the seat. But when I had my two tires trued, as I rode away the front tire was still faintly grazing the brake pad. The good news is that when I called, Evan offered to adjust it whenever I returned. But one star was lost since the work wasn't truly trued. read more

If I could give Josh and the team at the Bicycle Stand 10 stars I would. My wife and I took our old Schwinn single speed tandem to the Bicycle Stand after reading the reviews on Yelp and looking for a shop that would help restore/refurbish our old circa 1960 tandem. We were immediately impressed with their enthusiasm and dedication to bikes and their love of their jobs. It is evident from the get go when you ask questions and or advice. Needless to say, our tandem has been lovingly refurbished to almost pristine factory condition, with rebuilt hubs, new seats with padding for our old butts (kept the old Schwinn branded seats) and a new set of rear handlebars to make it easier to ride for my wife. We got comments and questions from folks as we test rode the bike and even as I loaded it on to the back of our car for transport home. The work done by Josh and his fellows is/was outstanding in the attention to detail, but more importantly with the love they bring to bicycles! We even wound up buying a new bike for our daughter. If you are in the market for a new set of wheels, a tune up, an adjustment or anything cycle related, these guys are the folks for you. What a great shop and great team. I am in the process of getting back into riding. Based on all of the positive reviews; I decided to take the 15 minutes drive from my home in Lakewood to this shop in Long Beach. I looked at a number of great classic road bikes that brought back many fond memories from my younger days. I recently had hip replacement surgery (a month ago) and look forward to coming back to The Bicycle Stand to make my purchase. I went to the bicycle stand to get a new helmet for my new bike. The owners were really nice and helpful with explaining to me what helmet to get. Finding the right size was really hard for me (as I have a small head) so they ordered a helmet just for me and allowed me to exchange the helmet I originally bought from them when it came in. They also helped with installing a new bike rack and commuter bag on my bike, both of which I got from them. I highly recommended this place. Really great personal service. read more

My favorite shop in Santa Monica recently shuttered their doors. BJ Olsen suggested I take my track bike to TBS. Understand this place is in LB and I live at Whilshire and Fairfax. No easy drive. Wow! Went in and the people are totally cool. I had my son and stroller with me. I was asking about another project that I had about my bike. But then jokingly I asked them if they could fix my son's flat stroller tires. And to my surprise, they said yes. All other bike shops I asked either didn't have the part or know how to do it. Absolutely loved my service here. Even though they aren't a BMX shop they were still very knowledgeable, and recommended some great tires for my bike which they ordered. I got Tioga Power Block tires and they seriously upped my speed, my top downhill speed went from a struggling 31-32mph with my old tires to a new high speed of 37.5mph!!! Freaking awesome! As soon as I walked in, I met Nicole who quickly had a few incredibly solid recommendations, all in my price point, all exactly what I was looking for. She explained each bike, pros and cons, and helped me decide what would be a good fit. They let me test ride the bike around the neighborhood, provided some insight about accessories and modifications I might like, ALL while staying under budget. I have never felt so confident about a purchase in my life. While they were making some adjustments to my bike, I was able to talk to Nicole a little more, learning she's one of the owners - her passion for providing quality service and quality products is clear.
