I drop my wife's bicycle 4 weeks earlier for a service... I knew that the price for these services would be over 20% in cost for other bikes shops... but I was ok believing that they will provide an extraordinary service: I was mistaken. I drop the bike early June almost 3 weeks with them... They told me that bike would be ready in 9 days (actually 7 office days!!!!!): only BECAUSE I am Not on the neighborhood, I came back 14 days later... and I arrive 14 days later TO WAIT over 40 MINUTES for a guy to finish it. His reason WAS that they were waiting for a "PART" (a chain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!): pretty basic!!!!!! for a bike shop to HAVE spare parts like chain ...(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!))))) Short story: I hope owners read this feedback and DO better for their customer service in the future (even if they have a good flow for walks in...). Before & After pics of the full overhaul service by the guys at the bicycle stand. This service includes Complete disassembly of bike, headset, and bottom bracket. Both hubs are rebuilt, full rust removal and polishing of Frame and components, new standard brake and gear cables are included. I'm not one to bash on anybody, so I won't say much. But do not be fooled by their Instagram pictures of the clean vintage bikes they post. *(Who even works on them)* (why don't they every post before and after pics of the bikes or do they outsource all the heavy lifting like rust removal and polishing). They do not complete the services promised but will not forget to charge you for it. Be weary. I'm sure you can find much more professional repair men to help service your bike. The Stand is one of my go-to shops for quality stuff. Lights, seats, tape, you name it. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff that are there to help with any questions. I got my bike serviced there a while back before covid and they were so chill and quick. When you come in, you're greeted with a wall of vintage bikes and gear and towards the back they have more vintage bikes and jerseys hanging from the ceiling along with new and modern stuff. The Prices are good considering you are getting top notch product. I'd Say it's one of our higher end shops here in LB. there's lots to look at while you wait for your bike and if looking at vintage bikes is not your thing, there's a bar and a barbershop across the street you can go to. Negative stars! I guess if you're not "aged" appropriately customer service will vary. My BF and I come here all the time. It WAS our go to bike shop. But today the "Young" boy, I'd say man but he was all but a man, who helped him was Rude (Yes capital R)! As mentioned we try to shop local making this "Our" bike shop, we loved the helpful staff that assisted us on our many previous visits. But we wont be returning after today. He must have gotten "us old people" confused with someone else. He looked at my BF and said "Oh yeah you're the one with all the grievances" WTF did he just say. I had to do a double shake of the head. Im so disappointed that this shop allows staff to speak to ppl that way. Looks like some new training wheels for that staffer.. Have admired and window shopped this place many times, they have beautiful vintage bikes on display. I recently acquired a 2003 Specialized Sequoia Elite that I refurbished and upgraded, and looked forward to dropping it off to have the gear and brake cables installed and dialed in. Beware walking in without an appointment! I didn't know I needed to - and the mechanic really let me know how inconvenient it was that I did so. I ended up taking my bike and parts and walking out. I went in to order a bike which they were helpful in picking out. I paid the full amount for the bike on a Sunday and was told the order for the bike would be placed on the next day which was Monday. They told me they would reach out to me when the bike was ready. I called the next Saturday for an update on the bike and was told the order was never placed. A staff member saw that the bike was out of stock the day they went to place the order, but never reached out to me to let me know. Decided to shop local tonight for a bicycle. I've been looking for a bike for a few months now and been in The Bicycle Stand a couple different times now. They are very helpful and have moderate prices. You can get anything from a brand new road bike to a cool old 60s cruiser... I opted for the 60s cruiser. I Met a young associate named Danny. He helped me for a good hour and a half with complete patience and suggested I ride a variety of bikes around the block until I figured out which one I liked most. I was very impressed! I went out for a bike ride today and at the end of my ride my tire popped. So being stuck walking for miles I looked up the nearest bike store to get a tire change so I could ride back home. I've been to this store before for other bike needs but this time I came in and explained that I needed a quick tire change. The store associate said that they could do it but it wouldn't be ready until closing which would take 3 hours as they had other bikes that they were working on. I found this response to be ridiculous as it takes no more than 20 min to help someone with an immediate need to get back on the road but instead they failed to solve the problem. They told me that I could take my bike up the road to a shop on 4th and Cherry in which I ended up having to do and walk another mile. The customer service failed to meet expectations and I won't be coming back for future bike needs. read more

New to the neighborhood and this place is closest. So I walk several blocks to buy a couple of tubes and tire for my Fuji, Urban bike that had a blowout this morning. My plan was to get the tire fixed when I returned home, then ride back to the shop with my wife as she needed some adjustments made to her bike. After the walk I needed to use the facilities and ducked into the filthy restroom off the showroom. Ten seconds later someone is banging on the door telling me it's not a public restroom. When I responded that I came to make a purchase his response was that the restroom is for "employees only." First, I refuse to do business with an organization that is happy to take my money, but unwilling to provide something as basic as a clean restroom. In spite of my rude introduction to The Bicycle Stand, I decided to purchase the tubes and tire anyway. Knowing it would be the ONLY purchase I'll make there. I didn't see the tube size I needed on the shelf and the same clown who came banging on the door was helping a young lady who walked in with a very nice Peugeot road bike. She asked what it would take to get it in riding condition. His response after a 5 second glance at the bike? "A complete rebuild." I've been riding for more years than the age of the bozo trying to take advantage of this young lady and have done my own maintenance for forever. There is NO WAY he could know this bike needed a complete rebuild at a glance. That's was all I needed to hear and walked out without making my intended purchase. So not only did The Bicycle Stand lose out on two transactions and a potential long term, avid cyclist customer, they've earned this wonderful review. Took my tire in for a new tube and a week later it blew out. Took it back and it blew out again. Took it back and they said the tire was "too thick" even though I had the same tire on both wheels for two years. They said I would need a new tire and wanted to charge me a second time for a new tube! I didn't buy this and went to another bike shop which fixed the flat with no problem. Now I'm out $22 and will never use the Bike Stand again. read more

Had an old beach cruiser that had been neglected for years, rusty chrome and chipped paint. I took it apart and put a lot of work into painting it and removing as much rust from it as I possibly could. Took it into The Bicycle Stand for tires, reassembly, check the wheels and hubs. I wasn't sure if the wheels were going to be ok or have to be replaced. Danny was honest and only recommended new for the items I already knew needed replacement. He inspected the wheels and assured me he could clean them up and they would be fine. Danny did an excellent job and came in under estimated price! Not the closest bike shop to me but it's definitely now my go to! read more

Let me start by saying, this store charges too much money for the jobs they do because they stack the base labor costs for each job done. So lets say you need your chains replaced the cost for labor would be say $15, they charge you an $10 'base fee' then $5/10min for the labor and it take 10min so it would cost $15. Here I will explain with similar prices/time(probably cheaper): If you wanted the chains replaced and the brakes replaced and the wheel trued it would take them 30 minutes, so the price should be ((base fee + 5 x (# of 10min increments ))), which in this case would be 10 + (5 x 3) = $25. So your total should be $25 (assuming you provide the parts). What happens here is they charge the base fee on every single repair, so you end up paying.. $10 *base fee* + $5 *time it takes* Chain Replacement $10 *base fee* + $5 *time it takes* Brake Replacement $10 *base fee* + $5 *time it takes* Wheel Truing For A Grand Total Of : $45 (assuming you provide the parts) This $20 more than what should be paid BECAUSE they charge a base fee for each repair, treating each fix as a WHOLE job; instead of treating each fix as a PART OF A WHOLE job. and lets say that these fixes take less than the time allotted(in this case 30min) say someone can do all this in 15min. They would be charging you $45 for 15min of work, and if they had a steady stream of jobs they would be making a $180 an hour or more, but of course they don't get continuous fixes throughout the day and they might not be the fastest workers so they probably aren't making that much. Obviously the second model is much more lucrative to the business but not necessarily fair to the customers. Okay now on to my story and the reason I am posting this in the first place. I recently got my bike repainted at a place(not the Bike Stand) that does powder coating it cost me $80+mistakes. They painted over the headset, which are the parts that hold the ball bearings so the handlebar can turn. two of the pieces are attached to the frame and one to the fork, SO i needed to replace them. I took the fork and the frame over to the Bike Stand because they said they had the replacement part I needed. When I arrived I was told that they could replace the headset and that I couldn't do it on my own, so I was like okayyy... And the guy with the laptop said to me it looks like that repair is going to cost $35. And I was going there expecting them to say something like $15 because I had been there before and understood that they where a bit on the pricier side, but $35 right away alarms went off in my head, something is seriously wrong. So I tried to tell him that the price he was giving was much higher than what should be charged. Then I was told that the tools to remove them are $200 dollars and the tool to put them on was also $200 dollars. I was thinking, okay, so now I have to pay them to do it because I can't afford that tool. He had just put up a door and said he had the key and the only way I could get through was by paying the $35(+$15 for the part), figuratively speaking. I was panicking. In my mind I knew at the most this was 10 minutes of work. That would give them time to have snacks go in the back chat with their friends, then remove and attach the new parts. I tried to tell him explain this to him. So he said if I don't like the price try somewhere else,"but you're not gonna get a better deal." This was hardcore gaslighting. So I made a move and decided to look up the price on amazon for the part while in the store, (now that I knew what it was called (Don't get me wrong these people know there stuff when it comes to bikes and there knowledge is invaluable to a rube like me.)) I found the part for $8 (free shipping), so my need to buy it from this store was subdued. I had decided I was going to leave at this point because they no longer had there 'only source' grip on my bicycle repair. After arriving home I decided to call the Lakewood Cyclery (20 mintues from the bike stand) and was told over the phone it would be $10... I went to Lakewood Cyclery two days later (with my part I had bought on Amazon) and they did the job in 10 minutes, a hammer, piece of wood and one special tool $20(I know I looked up the price), when it was done they didn't ask for any money ( cause it was EASY ), I gave them $5 anyways. I WOULD HAVE PAID (Bike Stand) : $15 part + $35 Labor = $50 I PAID (Lakewood Cyclery): $8 part (Amazon) + $5 Labor (Donation really) = $13 If anyone of the guys working at the Bike Stand analyzed the situation, my bike was just frame and fork, instead of relying on the laptop (which has set prices(I know because he made it clear)) to determine the cost (and there was, as someone else so eloquently put it, a 'fascist hipster' attitude in the air) I could have gotten a somewhat reasonable deal. If you want a thought through deal go somewhere else. Because they believe in 'equality' here. read more
