Biscuits and gravy are the way to go. This place is awesome for breakfast. Food portions are large. I tried the southern Eggs Benedict (biscuits, eggs, sausage, and gravy stacked). I was in heaven but couldn't finish it. I normally don't like gravy on my eggs but decided to let it slide this time and I am so glad I did. The staff is hit or miss. We had a younger server that was more than accommodating but we watched other tables waiting for refills, food, and checks that seemed highly agitated. I am not sure how our sever pushed us to the front but we did get our food fast and watched others impatiently waiting that ordered well before we did. If in the area I would say it's definitely one to try. They do stay very busy and the wait times can be long. read more

3/1/12 edit: I've been converted. My first time here was not at all indicative of the norm. Their biscuits and gravy are still to die for and I'm still not a fan of their waffles/pancakes with fruit but I'd order any of their egg dishes any day of the week. The wait is considerably longer (but often worth it) on weekends when more people are out and about for breakfast but if you manage to get in during the week the service is fantastic and usually very friendly. I would recommend this to anyone who loves good, hearty breakfast foods but don't go on a weekend if you're starving or don't want to have to wait, try to get in on a weekday. Food: Their biscuits and gravy were very very good. The biscuit was fresh and fluffy and the gravy to biscuit ratio was spot on in my book. The rest of the meal was decent, on par with what I'd expect from a mom and pop breakfast place but I expected a little more from them since they're a chain restaurant. My waffle was cooked well but the fruit on top was sparse and some of it was still almost frozen which was not what I'd anticipated. My boyfriend's hunk of ham was huge and well done and the hash browns were just edible. Service: Don't expect to get in and our of here quickly on a weekend morning. My boyfriend and I waited about half an hour for a table and spent a considerable amount of time waiting for food and our for our check when our meal was finished. They were extremely busy but it felt like they could have used some more wait staff to expedite the process. My coffee was often empty and by the time my food came I was starving. Our waitress was nice enough but very curt and obviously in a hurry. Overall: A decent breakfast, one I'm planning to give another try, but nothing you couldn't get at IHOP. read more

Great place for a hearty breakfast! I had an amazing Belgian waffle combo with pecans, caramel and powdered sugar with bacon and scrambled eggs. My fellow diners had a breakfast burrito and eggs Benedict and we all shared an order of their famous biscuits and sausage gravy. Everything was well prepared and perfectly seasoned. This place is too bright ... way too bright. Fortunately, this was not a morning I was looking to have my longtime standby of biscuits & gravy to rescue me from the depths of too many adult beverages the night before, because this place is lit up brighter than a locked down prison yard. Overall the food was decent breakfast fare. There isn't anything overly "big" about the biscuits, but they'll do. The hashbrowns were crisp but unseasoned and the coffee was full. When the big biscuit opened, I thought it was amazing. After having been to a couple different places (Kate's Kitchen/Ginger Sue's), and then eating here again...it just doesn't measure up. Half the time the biscuits are hard and crumbly, the meats are all very uninspiring, the gravy tends to liquefy somehow the longer it's out (not enough flour or corn starch?). The hot meals are fine; particularly the open faced roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. Overall, it's an okay place to grab breakfast, but in my humblest of opinions, you'd be best served to try First Watch down the street. read more

Alas, I have the need to update my review after the last few visits. My most recent visit was definitely the most disappointing. Average food, and bad service. I'm not sure what part of "I'd like some more water please" she didn't understand while looking straight at me after asking if I needed anything else, but apparently she had more important things to stand around and talk about, than to get my refill. Sorry, but one glass of water (warm, at that) doesn't cut it for even the most basic meals anywhere. Between that, and the NERVE that I apparently had to request a PEPPER shaker when she delivered my meal was too much. None of the tables had pepper on them; whose problem should that be? NOT the customer's! It doesn't need to be *perfect* every time I'm there, but customers should never be treated rudely or as an imposition. Service is everything, especially in a town with thousands of places to eat, and several of those APPRECIATE the business. Sigh. At least at Le Peep, I can sit outside and enjoy the good weather if the server is being rude and ignoring customers. The host at least gave some semblance of caring. read more

I had blueberry French toast which was pretty good and my friend enjoyed biscuits and gravy with breakfast potatoes and bacon which was made crispy to perfection. Don't go to the mo. Big biscut and expect the same thing here. Portions are much smaller here and the flavor is not as good. Better than most joco spots but if you have never been to the one on 40 highway you dont know what you are missing. After bring this to the mangement attention i was told i was lying and they were all made the same. I will not go back. read more

I was here back in June, with a cohort. We had driven straight through from Green mountain Falls, Colorado, and arrived here for much-needed breakfast (we left Colorado around midnight after a performance, and drove through the night). The food was okay - not outstanding, but not bad. It arrived very quickly, and that's a good deal in a full restaurant. Here's the weird part, and the two-star cause: the customer service was downright creepy. I ordered a scramble-type thing, with potatoes and a biscuit. In the fifteen minutes it took me to eat my breakfast, I was asked how I was doing not once, not twice...would you believe FIVE times?? (Two stops by the GM, one by an assistant GM type, two by the waitress). After the fourth person came by to ask "how are you doing?" I told my friend that the next person who asked how I was doing was going to get a jam-smeared biscuit chucked in their perky face. When that fifth person came by, I thought about it, and then just ate the biscuit because it was too tasty to waste. I'm in the service industry, and believe in paying attention to guests, but there's a lot to be said for leaving them alone enough to eat a meal in peace. Seriously, FIVE TIMES? read more

We had a good experience. There was a wait for tables, but me and my partner were sat immediately at the bar/counter. Our server was friendly and our food came out quickly. It wasn't as hot as I would have expected, but it wasn't cold either. It is a bit weird that they make pigs in a blanket by wrapping 2 sausage links in a full size pancake instead of wrapping single links in smaller pancakes, but it's not that big of a deal. My second visit to Big Biscuit, first time at this location. This review is based upon my visit last weekend. Award winning biscuits and gravy? What kind of award was this? Most mediocre? They're boring. Nothing special about the biscuits and gravy here. They came with Jim's Platter. I like they leave you with a small carafe of coffee once you order a cup. Pretty basic food. Staff is friendly. Seems to be a pretty clean place. I will return to try the cinnamon roll pancakes. read more

update after my 2nd visit; Waitress wasn't rude...but not friendly either, i guess she seemed like she just didn't care and was counting down the time till she went home. Would you like a refill? well i did want a refill but you ignored me during my meal so asking me when you bring the check doesn't really help much. miss....miss....waitress....waitress....oh i guess i'm invisible. The omlett was great, the sticky biscuit was bad, barely warmer than room temp The biscuit well they were busy so i guess they were rushing cause it was undercooked and just fell apart when you touched it. sum it up Omlet - A+ Desert - C- Biscuit - F (kinda funny since the name is "BIG BISCUIT" and they serve small biscuits and under cook them (by the way, their gravy is nasty) Service - F- i wish there was a grade lower but there isn't. the service was so terrible and the employees don't care 1 bit about customers. I usually tip 20% and tipped 25% last visit here!!! This trip i didn't bother tipping, i figure the waitress didn't bother paying attention to us at all so she probably didn't notice the lack of tip either since it wasn't displayed on her phone which was all she seemed to pay attention too over there in the corner. Went there for a group lunch. It was fine. I will say that the sticky biscuit was amazing but they only had one left at lunch time so we had to share. The omelet was good. We've eaten at several Big Biscuit restaurants in the KC area. This was our first visit to this particular location. Food was wonderful. My husband ordered the loaded sticky biscuit and shared it with me and our granddaughter. It was SO wonderful. We live about 5 hours from KC and I sure wish I could find a recipe to make these myself! I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese, grits, crispy bacon, and a biscuit. Everything was cooked perfectly (grits had NO lumps--YEA!!) and delicious. My husband ordered basted eggs with bacon and fruit. Our granddaughter ordered just a bowl of fruit. The fruit was very fresh and tasty. We had a good server except she got lost when it was time to pay, so I ended up leaving cash instead of a credit card. read more

Been going here since they opened, this issue occurred before and was corrected each time until recently. It's difficult to accept that eggs will be cooked as the cook decides and not to order. I like my eggs cooked over medium, whites solid and yokes runny. The last time the egg whites weren't cooked enough the replacement arrived over hard. Today the arrived well on their way to over hard, when I said something the manager took them back to the kitchen and returned offering me anything other than eggs. Apparently the cook determines what the customer gets to eat. Ashamed the management doesn't explain to the cook the warning on their menu has concerning undercooked eggs. Amazing a breakfast place will state they won't serve me eggs any more, because it's easier to lose a customer than handle a training issue. Guess I'll eat where eggs are on the menu. read more

Living across the street we are there frequently, and my housemate use to frequently stop here for breakfast most mornings on the way to work. Now everyone is working from home, but even then he still goes often and gets to-go orders for the rest of us. It's okay diner food. That's the best way I can think of to describe it. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out at the same time. Yes, they have big biscuits, but they're average to me, and nothing I'd go out of my way for. Dependent on what you order, comparing the portion size to the price is good on some things. Others however, don't seem to match up, mainly the sides. The space itself is okay, and service has been friendly. It does get really busy, especially on the weekends, so sometimes service can be a tad slow. Busy is good though, so kudos to them. Like I said, it's okay diner food, and since the family really likes it, I'll be back again when they win out the choice of where we go to grab breakfast. This is an awesome spot to go have Saturday brunch. Prices are a touch more than your local diner but nothing worth complaining about. The Big Biscuits are as big as you'd expect but well baked (on the crispier side). I got a half order of B's & G's and that was perfect! The side of potatoes were average but still good! The white sausage gravy is delicious. My buddy got The Titanic and it was HUGE! Big enough for 2 possibly 3 people. The service was quick and very friendly! Wow! My husband and I brought our three teenagers (2 are boys!) for breakfast. My husband got omlette with buscuits and gravy. My daughter and I got the french toast combos (hers had berries ;) ). One son ordered the big breakfast (lives up to it's name!). My other son got the breakfast burrito (OMG Huge!). I ended up ordering a buscuit as well and they ended up accidentally bringing out a second one after we got our check, so my husband ended up eating that one. It all was soooo delicious and the waitstaff were friendly. But the most important part is my teens got full! We will definitely be returning.
