I liked that it came with some taziki sauce that was my favorite, really thick and fresh with slivers of cucumber. I also got a slice of Cheesecake Baklava thanks to the yelp reviews! I've never really liked Baklava before but insert some cheesecake and Whoa! It was super creamy with some honey and crunchy nuts and the chew of the pastry layers I also ordered the multi layer yellow cake with chocolate frosting and my man didn't like it cold but ate it all when it came to room temperature. I finally tried Big Greek Cafe last night, and I'm so glad I did! As everyone has said, the Big Greek Fries are delish, their tzatiki is to die for (and it's not generally my favorite), the rice pudding was incredibly good, everything was super fresh, and the portions were huge! We started with a dip trio - the feisty feta certainly was, the red pepper hummus was yummy (and you could really taste the red pepper), abs the aforementioned tzatiki. So good! Then I got the gyro platter. Honestly, the only think I thought was "just ok" was the gyro itself. Next time I'll try the pork souvlaki. :) I can't wait to order this for my parents, which lo are huge fans of Greek food! read more

Grabbed takeout from downtown Silver Spring at this spot. I ended up getting the falafel gyro! Heard many great things about this place so had to give a try. I also got the Greek fries too. The fries were great! Came with Feta, garlic and parsley which gave them an extra kick! The gyro was also good too with the tzatziki sauce. Only change I would say is that for the gyro I would cut the falafel pieces in half because it was difficult to eat with the whole pieces as a gyro. I walked in and Greek music was playing. They even have pictures of the celebrities that have come to dine at The Big Greek Cafe. It wasn't busy when I rolled in around 6pm, and my gyro was ready in minutes! Their gyros are heavy on the meat (the way it should be) though I would've liked more veg (tomatoes and red onions). Chicken(unusually small serving size) on my Greek salad had been cooked at a previous time and reheated in a microwave and the gyro meat for another dish was dried out. First Uber Eats Delivery: 5 Stars Spanakopita, a side salad, and the Crispy Falafel Sandwich with Greek fries: everything was made with fresh ingredients and tasted phenomenal! The Crispy Falafel Sandwich was my favorite: it included 3 falafels, diced onions and tomatoes with just the right amount of sauce. It was delicious! The feta cube and spicy pepper complimented the dish as well. The side salad was comprised of all fresh ingredients... no wilted or soggy vegetables here! I wish it had a little more feta cheese but otherwise it was quite tasty! The Spanakopita was worth every penny especially if you really like the filling... I had never seen it shaped as a log instead of triangles. There was so much of it, that I'm going to eat the rest today. I would totally recommend the food at this restaurant! Greek salad - Large portion with kalamatas, tomatoes, crumpled feta, capers and onions. We shared it among 3 people. Fries - crispy, not oily and was topped with cheese crumbles (surprisingly yummy). Price - super reasonable for the amount and quality. Our total bill was $27 for 3 people. Parking - street metered. We arrived about 2pm and the place was almost full. After a relaxing Saturday walk on Georgia Avenue, My wife and I discovered this restaurant And decided to give them a try for lunch. Upon walking in the restaurant we were able to see they had in dinning at less than 50 percent capacity which worked out great. The facility also does provide hand sanitizer in the dinning room which is a plus. I must say that everything we ordered from the 3 dip appetizer, beef gyro, chops plate with potatoes and the greek salad with Baklava cheesecake dessert was great! The major reason why I am not giving this place 5 stars is due to the customer service! It was obvious that we were first time customers and the cashier was not friendly. This place is not cheap so I would expect more effort be in place to satisfy your customers being that their where no customers waiting behind us to order. I would return to this place because the food was good but I hope customer service will be better as well. read more

I would say the Greek fries are too much and soggy and regular fries do the trick better but the meat quality and portion size are great. The Big Greek Cafe is not big but it is Greek, with a menu that includes the usual Greek foods. Gyros, Moussaka, Spanakopita, Souvlaki. Those things. And baklava. So I got a gyro platter with a Greek salad and the Greek potatoes. The potatoes were very hot and perhaps a lot too oily, but the few that I had were tasty. The gyro was pretty solid with a good portion of sliced doner in it on a toasted (grilled?) pita bread. Not enough tzatziki for my taste, but since I didn't manage to spill any of it on me, maybe it was actually the right amount? I also got a baklava to go. Huge portion, light and very sweet, exactly what it's supposed to be. It's a small place - more of a single wide shopfront - and it's quite loud when there's a mom with three loud kids. I would like to thank the Big Greek Cafe for my Big Not-Greek Butt. Every time I walk by the Big Greek Cafe, I have to get the fries. For example, take last night, I actually had dinner, walked by Big Greek Cafe on the way to the parking lot and had to get the fries. I debated it, and decided I needed the fries in case starvation hit me on the long ten minute ride home. So mere mortal, I dare you to resist the Big Greek fries here. They are my weakness. Basically they are crispy fries (which are moderately think) covered in feta,olive oil and oregano. Dip these bad boys into the two little cups of tzatziki they offer you, or just dump the tzatziki right on top and I promise you it's pure fat kid heaven. My favorite offering here other than the fries, is the big fat Greek salad. Doesn't it sound healthy? Well, I assure you it's not. First of all, the salad looks like it's been hit by a feta blizzard, the entire top layer is white. I love feta, so this is the best part of the salad. The rest of the salad has romaine Lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, red peppers, cucumbers, capers, olives, anchovies (just eat then you wuss! they are so good) and oregano. It's served with opa dressing, which I have no idea what it is, but this also has chunks of feta in it, and is a bit like a creamy ceasar. And no lie, the salad is BIG, it's more than enough for two servings. So next time you're in Silver Spring and craving some great Greek food on the cheap, stop by here. Be sure to get the fries. Another of my "soul food" haunts when I am at home! Love their falafel and the chicken wrap. The place is clean and the taste consistent. Of and of course the infamously famous Big Greek Fries - Totally legit.. To be honest, I have to force myself to not order these - I tend to wolf them down pretty quick, lol! And now for the debate between the Big Greek Cafe and the Greek Place. I have eaten at both places. My comparison of the Chicken Souvlaki I think BGC wins hands down! That being said - I havent tried other stuff at TGP - they might do better with other things! My first job ever- ( and I've had a lot of them) Job's that included 1. Going on tangents 2. Container Store 3. Starbucks 4. Target 5. Stating my sentences with "In any event" 6. California Tortilla (all because I chose to work at a summer camp- so I would get a different job every year in between the summer). Which reminds me of the song Magic by the The Cars... WHOH Nelly - back it up.... ok, so, My first job was working at a Greek Restaurant- I wont tell you where but it was in the Rockville area. In any event, I was a line cook and that job really put me through a lot. Everyday I would come home with burns, cuts, bruises, and sore feet from being on them for hours on end. But, I can tell you that the Greek Restaurant I worked in, they did things right. The gyro was delicious, the iman baldi was awesome, and the pastitcio and mousaka were from scratch. I know what good greek food is; and like other people, I agree that this is it. One really good barometer of a greek restaurant is their dolmades (stuffed grape leaves). It is really easy to buy crappy stuffed grape leaves in a can- a Greek restaurant that cares will never serve you dolmades out of a can. I got the dolmades today at Big Greek Cafe... and can you venture a guess? They were made fresh, they are delicious, and they have not touched the inside of a metal can in their life time.
