We love eating at Big Sombrero, especially because the portion sizes are generous and perfect for sharing. The staff is always friendly, and on our most recent visit, our server Carlos was especially attentive--making sure we had everything we needed and that our drinks stayed full. We always order the chicharrones and white queso. The portions are great, and the queso is consistently delicious. The kids had the bean and cheese burritos, and there wasn't a single bite left. My wife and I shared the Sombrero's Skillet, which comes with a mix of beef, chicken, pork, and shrimp topped with chorizo queso--we enjoyed every bite. Food: 9/10 Service: 10/10 The atmosphere is very family-friendly, which we really appreciate. The only critique would be the restaurant's upkeep. Our booth had a noticeable tear, which was an eyesore and a bit uncomfortable. Overall, we love the food and the energy here and will definitely be back.

Food was pretty good.. I had the carnitas fajitas and chicharron and queso blanco... had to doc the queso up a bit... added salsa to it for flavor. Service was good, wasn't sure who my actual server was, everyone was helpful. Ambiance was fine. Not too busy on a Tuesday afternoon.. I'd definitely return. Better than most of the Mexican restaurants I've seen in the area!

We've lived in the area for 6 years now. Big Sombrero has been out go-to for several years now. The food is consistent, the service is always great & the drinks are delicious. A mango margarita with Tajin on the rim & an enchilada plate is my favorite meal!

Trying this place for the first time as we made the drive out to Conroe to go to a Lupe Tortilla that was non existent. The security was great and our server was funny. The ambiance was nice and was very very clean. Chips are a bit hard but I can overlook that as I'm picky with everything I eat. The salsa was good and the queso was delish. The margarita. Ahhhhh reminds me of Rancho Grande (Big Ranch) before they changed their recipe. The quesadillas are good as well and reminded me so much of rancho grande. If I had to do a blind gold taste test, I'd be in trouble. My husband had the fajitas for one and he said the same. Basically if you love Rancho as much as I do because the food is good and the prices are right, this place is for you. Enjoy!!

When the fire alarm goes off at your resort hotel and you have to walk down 14 flights of stairs, you do what any same person would do: grab your car keys and go find a nearby restaurant to wait out whatever happens. With that luck in our favor, we Yelped for a local lunch spot and came across The Big Sombrero. "That sounds like fun," hubby said, and so here we are. Happy hour every day, and thankfully we're here at the right time. A jumbo house marg for me and a beer for hubby. Chunky guacamole - it has all the good stuff: onions tomatoes jalapeño cilantro lime. So good we're actually ordering a second round of it (yeah yeah, I know, quac is #extra, but OMG, it's so good) and the chips are super thick and able to stand up to the chunky quac. So good y'all, so good. Hotter salsa (had to ask for it) but it is DELICIOUS- going with the theme of the day, it burns burns burns, the ring of fire! ;-) And the chips are warm, too. Y'all this place is SO GOOD! Hubby's having spicy dirty tacos, I'm going for Chicken Blanco. Food hasn't arrived yet and we're already talking about coming back up to this place. It's only about 45 min from home, but we've traveled farther for good steaks (looking at you, 1836 in Huntsville) so we're not against making the drive for great food. Ok. Food. I gotta say it y'all: HOW IS THIS PLACE NOT ALL FIVE STARS?!? Fresh, hot, incredibly tasty... I don't have enough adjectives to describe how happy my mouth and tummy are right now. The chicken blanco, with double beans, is a savory flood of flavors. The zucchini, which so often is over cooked to mush, is deliciously crunchy and partners amazingly with the white queso (that is so hot, it's nearly straight liquid). It comes with tortillas, and makes an amazing toco, but it's not even necessary. Straight from plate to fork to mouth and you are in for a treat. Hubs has vacuumed up his tacos. We both are miserably full and absolutely delighted with this meal! Again, I say, HOW IS THIS PLACE NOT FIVE STARS?!? Come here. Enjoy the food. You will NOT regret it.

All I can say is I have had better. But I've only been there once. I'd be willing to try them again. Maybe it was just a bad day.

The restaurant is pretty large with a mix of warm lighting and natural light depending on where you're sitting. It seems as though they may be renovating in certain spots of the restaurant the time we visited. Our waiter Dave was friendly, attentive, informative, and efficient. The complimentary chips and salsa were good. We took advantage of their happy hour for drinks. We each had a Cadillac margarita which was pretty good. My friend and I chose the Marisco bowl. I chose the meat combo of chicken/steak and she chose the chicken Marisco bowl. My other friend had the chicken quesadillas. The food was fresh, but in my opinion lacked flavor. I loved the prices of Gringos, but did not like my dish as much. My friends enjoyed their meals. As the night went on the restaurant became full. They have complimentary ice cream and cones for dessert that patrons get themselves. When we attempted to partake, the cones were gone and the station was messy from patrons not cleaning up after themselves. I would return to this location again and try a different dish. I would also recommend this business to others for decent happy hour drinks and food.

Our fajita meat today was old, and smelled off. We requested medium but it came beyond gray, and zero char- it was sweaty. This showed up within four minutes. The rice was dried out. The beans were, too. As I said- two thirds of the time is great. Sometimes bad visits happen. Then comes the annoying dance: I do *not* want a manager. I sure didn't need an argument (!) from the server about cooking theory. Not looking for free food. We were very hungry and now have to go find another restaurant. We paid and we left. All done. No desire to keep playing roulette with which experience we can expect, and the server pushback was the kicker. You'll be fine without us.

Ordered friend shrimp and oysters with grits and fried okra. Loved the grits and fried okra but the fried shrimp seemed like it was frozen as the crust fell off when I picked it up. It was tasty and I ate it so it was Goode! Also, ordered an iced tea that was fresh and clean tasting so their equipment is well maintained. You can tell if any restaurants do not clean their dispensers as the tea tastes bitter or is milky looking. Why do I know this? You ask? Because my Dad was a coffee/tea delivery man and when I was a child he use to take me on Saturdays to run his route. We visited several Luby's Cafeteria's where he made sure the dispensers were clean and that they were making the tea properly. He showed me how he used the brushes to clean the tubes, dispenser handle and used special cleaning material on the inside. It makes a difference if your tea dispenser is clean... have I convinced you yet? Wow that was a rant! The bottom line is they have great iced tea!
