We visited Tavern in the Square in Bedford NH late last night. It was our first time at this specific spot despite being frequent customers at many of their other Massachusetts locations. To say the experience was beyond disappointing in an understatement. To be clear, this review is not about the food. As loyal customers who visit Tavern in the Square often we already know and enjoy the menu. The bartender was polite and pleasant throughout the interaction, despite overcharging for food and drinks we did not order. However, the situation overall was extremely uncomfortable and disappointing. We ordered one beer and a green tea shot and before we even finished the drink we were abruptly told we were "cut off". This made absolutely no sense. We were not intoxicated and had barely even started our drinks. When we asked to speak with management the only explanation we were given was that they have had fights there before. That reasoning is COMPLETELY illogical what does that have to do with us as individuals? If that is truly their policy then why was not everyone else at the bar treated the same way? We tried multiple times speaking with the waitress and management to get a clear and consistent answer, but no one could provide one. The responses were vague inconsistent and frankly concerning. At that point we could not help but question whether we were being singled out unfairly. When we raised that concern the staff could not provide any reassurance or clarification they simply avoided the question. For context, we are loyal Tavern in the Square customers and have made over 80 reservations at various locations since January of this year. We have NEVER experienced anything like this before at any of the MA locations. This situation was embarrassing, confusing, and unacceptable. We will NEVER return to this location. Based on this experience we do not recommend this location to others given our concerns about fairness and how we were treated. I have reached out and expect a clear response from corporate explaining what happened here. read more

I'm very disappointed with the experience my group had. We felt singled out and unwelcome, especially because we were the only Asian customers there. Being asked to leave made us feel uncomfortable and embarrassed, and it honestly came across as discriminatory. Looking around the room, it was impossible not to notice that we were the only Asian party in the establishment. The lack of a clear, valid reason for being "cut off"--while other customers nearby were treated with standard hospitality--left us feeling singled out and unwelcome. We expected a professional environment, but instead, we were met with treatment that felt discriminatory. Looks great. 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite busy. Lots of large tv screens showing sports, including women's beach volleyball and women's fast pitch softball! Yeh ladies!!! I ordered the crunchy salad with Salmon. Yummy!! And my husband got the ahi tuna bowl. Service was very good. My only complaint was that I had to reorder my gin & tonic because the tonic was flat. This happens all the time at places like this- that have large crowds. Sorry but a good bartender should be looking at these things. I knew as soon as I saw my drink that it was flat. I could see no bubbles.i was nice, I took a sip first but there were no bubble. So I reordered and had to wait. The 2nd one was better but I think I got a lot of extra ice from the first drink. Who knows? I know restaurants make a lot of $$ from their drink, so they aren't happy when a drink gets return. So make it right the first time. My conclusion- not fine dinning but good. We are probably older than most who come here on a regular basis. 1. Suggestion, too many super spicy items on the menu. Spicy really isn't a taste, it's a sensation. Like putting my finger in an electrical socket. 2nd part- I moved my glass , remember the gin & tonic, now with A Lot of ice. I was going to take one last swig and the waitress whooped in a took it!!!!! What the heck? It wasn't like the place was full and they needed the table. I'm taking away 2 stars. Tavern In The Square Bedford NH opened at Market & Main adjacent to The Friendly Toast. This is the second NH location with the other location at Tuscan Village in Salem. Not connected to "Taverne On The Square" (TOTS) in Claremont. This casual restaurant & bar offers two levels with a full service bar with seating & TVs overhead, booths, high tops, and table seating on the main level and the upstairs level with another full service bar and more seating, capacity 566 and rooftop patio. Like the other locations, this location offers a food menu with burgers, sandwiches, salads, bowls, small plates, appetizers, wings, main entrees (steak, chicken, seafood, pasta), desserts, and a kids menu. The bar offers around 32 beers on tap, wine, sparkling wine, mixed drinks, and cocktails. I stopped by TSQ (that's their chosen acronym and not the other one, wink*) in Bedford NH for an early dinner and arrived here on the grand opening day at 4pm. There was a short queue of folks getting seated at a table, but I headed to the main bar and took a seat. The upstairs level will only be open on Fridays and Saturdays during the opening phase before extending the hours. A bartender arrived promptly to give me a menu and I got an ice water. This bartender has served me previously at another restaurant & bar in Concord NH, which is closed. The TVs were showing sports highlights. For an entree, the Grilled Chicken Avocado Club ($17.50 plus tax) was a thick sandwich layered with lettuce, tomato, tender grilled chicken breast, avocado & chipotle aioli between slices of Texas toast. The side of warm russet chips were seasoned and crunchy. After I was done, I requested the check and was informed I had a $10 reward on my TSQ rewards account, which I used and the new total was $8.14 with tax and before tip. I used a gift card too. The food overall tasted pretty good with two bartenders checking up on things and the manager serving my entree. In all, I enjoyed a good sandwich and chips and will be back to watch some NFL games soon. read more

I love this place! They do gluten free exceptionally and the food is delicious. I had the gochuchang hot crispy chicken sandwich without the roll and was blown away. The fries are all gluten free and also so yummy. The service is excellent with the servers being attentive but not overly so. I have been three times now and will be going again. Furniture is high quality and the vibe is great Service is good, but our waitress made a couple of mistakes. Expect long waits on the weekend. The reason for the three stars is the high cost of the food does not mirror the actual food quality. The skillet breakfast option was really lacking meat, a couple of pieces of lame bacon. Stopped by Tavern in the Square for lunch today with my daughter. Since it was crowded--and they've only been open a couple of months--we sat at the bar, which worked out great. We shared the chicken quesadillas, rosemary parmesan fries, and crispy chicken dumplings, and every dish was delicious. Portions were very generous, with enough to take home for leftovers. The bartender/server was attentive, and it was clear they had enough staff working together to keep everything running smoothly despite the crowd. I'm already planning to return this Sunday for a friends birthday dinner and can't wait to try the General Tso's chicken... or maybe the steak tips--haven't decided yet! The only small note is that the ambience could have been a bit more festive for Christmas, though they did have a pretty Christmas tree by the entrance that nicely welcomed guests. read more

I've been to several other TSQ restaurants-first time in Bedford. I found it to have a similar set-up as the restaurant in Salem. Very nice. Large bar. Plenty of seating-two floors as well as rooftop when the weather permits. My friend and I sat at the bar on a busy late Saturday afternoon. We got excellent service from 2 of the bartenders, who greeted us immediately and got drinks for us, can't remember their names. We are in the Tavern Insider program, so we were able to get Cornflake Fried Chicken Tenders from the Starter section free of charge, with the purchase of an entree. This is a very large portion which we took home. For dinner, we both chose Mesquite Chicken Bowls. The portion size is generous, so we had more food to take home! The ingredients were all fresh, but I found the chicken to be slightly dry. I never hesitate to go to any TSZ. The restaurants have a great menu, I've never had anything I didn't like. There is a full bar with a very good draft beer selection. Shared parking lot. Recommended. read more

Had an excellent brunch, egg burrito with 2 sauces was awesome and quite filling, liked the red sauce best, The egg sandwich was also a hit, The Bloody Mary and peach Bellini also good. Tried out the new location in Bedford! The staff was friendly and welcoming. It was a busy lunch time but the food didn't take too long. The burgers were cooked just as asked and were delicious. The food was excellent. Very fresh. The feta dip is the best I've ever had. I'd go back just for that. This is a VERY LOUD PLACE. You will not be able to hold a conversation here. There is music blaring and there are TVs absolutely everywhere. I was on sensory overload within ten minutes. Service was off. The people were very nice, but we waited almost 45 minutes for our simple appetizer and then our food arrived two minutes later. We mentioned this and no apologies were made. Portions were huge. The only complaint I have is that the way the dining room is set up if you are sitting facing the front of the restaurant- all windows - it is very difficult to see who is across the table. Wow we found this beautiful gem just before we went to Trader Joe's grocery shopping. It is directly behind there and a two story brewery amazing. Ambience was great we sat at the bar. We had a great waitress named Paige who gave us full attention. We had the guac and chips along with the bang bang broccoli for an appetizer yummy yummy yummy is all I can say. I had the goddess burger with fries and my friend had the crispy chicken sandwich we loved them both and have enough for dinner tonight and more! We will be back every trip we take to Trader Joe's. The bartenders take the time to know their patrons and make sure they are happy with their beverages and food. If you are going to get a table, I definitely recommend a reservation through the website as they tend to have long waits right now.
