So this place used to be the cutest little tea house until it shut down. With it being a restaurant now, my mom and I have it a shot. Food was over priced and wasn't the best( I had vegetarian lasagna). Service was spotty with the waitress having an attitude of "could care less". I'm all for giving places a second shot, but this time I'm not so sure. read more

Very popular with the locals - you'd have to book in Friday nights to get a table. Looks quaint and staff are very nice but too busy so Service not too good during busy times Furthermore it can get very noisy particular if you are seated upstairs. We made reservation for seven in a Friday night and by the time we ordered they were already out of stock of their main items on their special and regular menus. Bread was stale. We had a nice lunch here on a different occasion, but tonight we had dinner and had a very different experience: 1) My wife's rice was cold to lukewarm and almost totally tasteless. 2) The "5-6" cheese plate had 4 cheeses on it (oh yes we were charged for the larger one) 3) Server half dropped two of our meals as he set them down 4) WE WERE ASKED TO LEAVE BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO SEAT OTHER PEOPLE AFTER BEING THERE FOR only 73 minutes (much of which was waiting for our food) and paying $150. In addition to being incredibly poor taste to ask us to leave, it was a celebration meal for our family; we chose this place as somewhere special to go. We won't make that choice again. read more

My husband and I went here for the Restaurant Week meal. My husband's baked salmon was delicious. I told the waitress I didn't like my vegetable lasagna and she offered to get me another entree (which I declined). And she had the owner come talk to me. Hubby and I just finished having a lunch date at The Bistro on 2nd and it was wonderful! When we arrived we were greeted and sat immediately even though we didn't have reservations, which was nice because it was busy. The waiter was friendly and told us about the menu and about the restaurant. We looked over the menu and I was happy it was not a huge menu, just the right amount of options. I ordered the Butternut squash curry and hubby ordered the Dougwood sandwich. The food arrived and it was so flavorful! The portions were huge. We both enjoyed our selections. The best part however was dessert. I had previously looked at the pics on Yelp and saw a pic of the Bistro waffle, it looked delicious!! However when the waiter told me what they had for dessert today and the waffle was not on it . When he came back to ask if anything sounded good I said I was really hoping for the waffle I saw on Yelp. He then said give me a second. He came back and said the chef can make that for you and I said with the strawberries and all?? He said yes, how sweet is that?!? It came out and was sooooo darn good!!. Sadly, we were totally UNDERWHELMED! I had the turkey, brie, sandwich... BORING, and totally tasteless. The premises are charming, the food is spectacular, and the service is both personable and extremely accommodating. And, p.s., we got a delightful wine to us from the interesting wine list. We lunched at The Bistro on 2nd Sunday as a Yelp! bet on the way home from our son's hockey game, and it was a spectacular success. Appetizers were a crab cake that would have been competitive on the east coast, and a nicely variegated charcuterie plate (though the cheese wasn't as good as the meats and mixed olives). The three of us shared a mild butternut squash vegan curry, a steak sandwich, and the house classic buffalo meatloaf. Each was as good as it could conceivably be, with the quality that comes from a kitchen that *thinks* about every plate they make. Our son's chocolate cake and our cheesecake were also tasty and splendidly balanced, not at all cloying. I was particularly impressed to overhear the waiter's conversation with the diners at the next table, one of whom wanted steak and eggs, which is not on the menu. He got it with no fuss or theatre about it, and apparently it was good. This is a small restaurant, and I suspect we got a table because they've just begun Sunday opening. This is my 2nd review for Bistro on 2nd. Tonight my food was sad. The 1st time I went it was fantastic. The angel hair pasta was like glue. The Marsala sauce just bitter. The chicken was tender, but not lightly seared. I was not seasoned at all. What happen? My husband said his portion size was not near enough. Not sure we will be back. So sad. This place is amazing at every level... but pricey! That said, if you're going to pay, you should expect the kind of service and quality you get here. We've been here a few times and have a GREAT experience every time. We've had both the meat and seafood (absolutely fresh) and all were stellar. The service staff is top notch, and able to describe the differences between fish clearly. Atmosphere is cozy and warm, comfortable and relaxing. A great place to work through several dishes. Despite the price point, they were very welcoming when we split everything: one appetizer, salad, dinner, dessert often came on two plates already divided. A great place for a special romantic occasion, or to take our adult children for great food. Summer means using the amazing outdoor space... and hopefully the return of the Big-A$$ pretzel (the biggest, best pretzel I have ever had!) read more

I was so excited to try this darling and quaint restaurant located in a charming house. The service was great but the food was very disappointing. Only one(Scallops) of the four entrees at our table was good. I chose the Pasta Primavera and regretted it. A .99 TV dinner would have been better. It was probably the worst entree I've ever been served. Soggy veggies with cool pasta doused in lemon juice. Why?! Also, must say the person that ordered the salmon said it was mediocre. I'll try this place one more time, maybe, but might just go next door to La Casa Fiesta for the Margatini and Pork Carnitas, always a sure thing. read more

We moved to Monument just weeks ago and needed to book a restaurant to celebrate a special event for my husband. I called a week in advance to reserve a table for 14 and could not be happier with our experience. Leading up to our event I even got a call from the chef to see if we had any special menu requests for our dinner! The day of the event I was contacted to see if we would prefer inside or outside seating. We sat outside and had a beautiful evening to celebrate with family from out of town. Sunday brunch was delicious - I had Eggs Benedict over Crabcakes (great combination of flavors) and my husband had the vanilla bean waffles. Ate dinner here since we live in the area and wanted to try out local places. Not very many menu choices. We both got the Filet Mignon with mushrooms and onions, green beans and mashed potatoes. Very disappointing. Both steaks were very under cooked. Everything was bland and seemed like there was no seasoning at all on anything. the table was very small and the chairs uncomfortable. We asked for bread before dinner and the waitress said she thought they were out but would check. She then brought two very small dinner rolls out to us. Ridiculously overpriced and tasteless food. I love the Bistro. I had one of the best, quietest, most relaxing experience. My food was awesome, my vine was wonderful, and the atmosphere is what I adore the most. Really tired of large places with hundreds of people, getting served just slightly slower than a local fast food chain. Restaurants lost their personalities so it's hard to find a real gem!!!!
