Good Lunch I was headed to lunch around 11:30 AM at McDonald's when I noticed a Captain D's next door. I haven't dined at a Captain D's restaurant in more than 15 years, and I didn't know Captain D's restaurant chain was still open and operating. Although the building is old, it is well kept and the inside dining room was very clean. The service was prompt, fast and friendly. I ordered the 8 Piece Crispy Crunchy Shrimp & 2 Piece Fish (batter dipped filets) Meal served with hushpuppies, fires, and coleslaw. The portions are very generous, everything was hot, and cooked fresh. The white fish was very good, perfectly cooked, fried to a light crispy golden brown, with a tender, flaky inside texture. The batter did not overpower the flavor of the fish. The coleslaw was ok and paired well with the fish. The shrimps, which are also served with sweet and sour sauce for dipping, were mostly breading, bland, had no seasoning and lacked flavor, but it was what I was expecting from a chain restaurant serving previously frozen pre breaded (not fresh) and fried crispy shrimp. Wow! Who knew?!?! Well, apparently lots of folks! I'd not been to a Captain D's before. I went there because it was across the street from our new vet. Man, what a pleasant surprise for me! We loved everything we tried, which was a lot seeing as we ordered a couple of different meals./platters Great taste, generous portions, AND very friendly service both in person and over the phone when I just called to confirm the hours show here were correct. Easy access to the restaurant from US-301, with dine-seating and drive through. We were last there for lunch on a Thursday and it was pretty quick. I visited the Captain D's in Dade City and, despite a bit of a wait, I had a really positive experience. When I arrived, I noticed there were only about three people working, with one person handling the front area. There were folks dining in and cars in the drive-thru, but the lobby was pretty quiet. I didn't have to wait to place my order, but I did wait about 10-12 minutes to get my food. Honestly, considering how few people were working and how hard they were going, I didn't mind the wait at all. A fourth team member arrived shortly after I ordered, and everyone I interacted with was friendly and professional. Most importantly, the food was fresh, piping hot, tasted great & worth the wait. We usually come here once a week but the last couple times have really been dissatisfying due to cold fries and old coleslaw even having made us sick yesterday New Year's Eve for lunch. Absolutely awful! You need to hire better people especially at the drive-thru. read more

Capt D near me closed years ago. We decided to try the one in Dade city. It was very good an cheap. We went on 2 fridays. The drive thru was very busy a there were a lot of pick up orders. Service was good an it was clean. Fish, shrimp, crab, coleslaw, green beans an hush puppies were good. They have several side option as well as seafood. They have flounder, jambalaya,catfish an chicken. It is a kid friendly place. The building is old an needs some updates. It is a casual fast food place. read more

Food was fair Restaurant was clean Service was terrible I was there on Sunday , only 1 cook and 1 waitress in the building. The waitress was undoubtedly mad because she had to work by herself. She was rude about everything , bad language, terrible attitude, I believe her name was Precious or something like that. The manager was working the kitchen. I will say, I am from Dade City, and this place was a frequent stop for me. First, it's not gourmet, so it should not be compared that way. Compare to Long John Silver, Arthur Treacher and others in the same class. This chain is tops and is certainly the best value. The menu is sufficiently broad to please anyone who likes seafood, and for friends of family that don't, there are other options. Most impressive to me reading these reviews is the fact that customer service is RESPONDING! I have written many reviews, and some, I beat them up. McD's and BK in particular, yet they never reached out to me or commented as to my post. KUDOS, Captain D's! I now live in Tampa, and I really miss their seafood combos and the awesome hush puppies. Of the at least 100 times I dined there since it opened, I never had a bad experience. My only complaint is in a town as big as Tampa, there is neither a franchise or corporate location here. Do BETTER here!!! There is a wide open spot here for you in Tampa, as you'd have NO real competition. I still get to Dade City on occasion to see friends, so you'll see me again. I wish we had a captain d's in Riverview but no we have long john silver's. The captain is so much better and i live the boomers. We drive up to dade city every few months just to get the jalapeno boomers. read more

Seafood fast food? I was a bit skeptical about this place but decided to give it a try one night I was craving fried fish. I was impressed they were delicious and fried to perfection. Their hush puppies and fries weren't bad either. I will definitely be back to try other menu items. read more

So, we drive here from Valrico at least once a month. Two weeks ago, there was no power, so we came back today. Today, they are out of hush puppies?! How is that possible?! This is not the first time its happened! I'm very sad! read more

Recognition would have been appreciated at the register, instead of the blank stare I received. Nothing. The waitstaff was very pleasant, and got us our flatware when we realized we hadn't picked it up. She came by later asking us if everything was ok. Great grilled shrimp, great hush puppies and corn on the cob. The loaded potato was not totally cooked, but was was cooked was good with the bacon and cheese. I could have said something about the potato, but didn't. Enough was cooked to enjoy. I'm not used to a fast food seafood restaurant, but glad we visited. read more

As a rule I have always loved the giant fish sandwich, but today it was like having 2 fish sticks on a bun. Such a disappointment.

Captain D's is one of my top 3 fast food restaurants. I'm used to senior specials being offered everyday at our local CD's, this one only offers on Wednesday. I love eating at Captain D's ! The food is always very FAST, and HOT, and DELICIOUS ! The prices on the Senior Menu are EXCELLENT ! I'm trying to watch my weight so I especially like the BAKED FISH and double sides of BROCCOLI with unsweetened ice tea. It's nice that you can go out for an inexpensive yet healthy and great meal. read more
